This place is a GEM, waiting for you to discover. After 10 days and nights of incredible meals on the Viking Venus. We decided that we wanted to have a nice lunch off of the ship. My wife and I both love Halibut and were looking to try some fresh caught, while our cruise ship was docked in Seward. We strolled up town a couple of blocks from the Alaskan Sea-life Center and saw that Gold Rush Bistro had some on their lunch menu and decided to stop in. Surprisingly there was no wait at 12:30 (lunch time) their smiling staff were happy to see us. We were greeted, seated and able to order very quickly. That being said, the place started to fill up pretty fast. As we waited, the lady that was sitting next to us when we sat down, had a god awful amount of perfume on, after a few minutes of choking, we politely as to be moved to another table and were happily accommodated, no hassle at all. I've had Halibut many times in the past, but none have been as delicious as the Garlic Halibut that they serve here. One word, OUTSTANDING!!! The decor inside was beautiful, with a homey wood vibe (see pics). Looking out the front window there was an amazing view of some of the surrounding Mountains. If you find yourself in Seward and are a little tired of the food on your cruise or just happen to be in town for another reason, I would highly recommend Gold Rush Bistro. read more

Tried this place out for dinner they had good reviews on 7/19. The place was very clean and had plenty of seating. The server and hostess were very nice. We tried out the Tuscan salmon, seafood chowder and the garlic parm fries. The salmon was terrific we really enjoyed it. The fries were crunchy and delicious we finished them all! The seafood chowder was ok and a bit overpriced. I'd go back for the fries and the salmon. I wish they had a pasta plate with salmon would be nice. read more

This is a must!! So glad we chose this place for dinner. I had the seafood alfredo and it was incredible. A really delicious, unique alfredo sauce and the fish and scallops were amazing as well. Service was perfect. It was warm and cozy on a rainy day. No wait on a Saturday at 7pm. Heads up that they don't serve alcohol- it saved us some money and calories though! read more

Food is good at this local place in Seward. It is not walking distance from the Resurrection bay however, it's close to some other cool spots like gelato place and other good restaurants. It is worth the walk and also, ample parking available We had the pasta, salmon platter and a sandwich. Only comment is that they could have added a few vegetables on the salmon. It was just jasmine rice, salmon fillet with the sauce. Adding vegetable could be so perfect Service is moderate. Servers are friendly. Nice restaurant, Clean and not too noisy. We had dinner for 3 last night. We were seated right away at a nice table by the window. The hostess was pleasant and very friendly. Orders taken in a timely manner. Food was really good. The salmon was flavorful with rice. Just a little odd it had a piece of bread (which looks partly eaten, the way it had a big hole), instead of maybe a side of veggies. The pasta with salmon was good---nice creamy sauce. Flank steak with a soft bread was delicious---good flavor and meat tender. Fries were ample and hot. Service was efficient and friendly. Our last feeding spot in Seward, Alaska, was Gold Rush Bistro. We discovered this thing called the seafood chower in Seward and we were told Gold Rush Bistro was where we needed to go. Since we already checked in on the cruise ship and ate our hearts out during lunch buffet, we went back out just for the seafood chowder. While browsing the menu, the wait staff also recommended their berry pie baked in house, filled with strawberry, raspberries, apples, and rhubarb. Ms. Fatty would never say no to dessert so we also got that. Sure enough, the New England style seafood chowder was really the best seafood chowder we've ever tasted. The pie though... we did not really love it. We felt the flavors were lacking. Overall experience was really good. The service was good and the restaurant had a cozy feeling. The menu had more than just seafood chowder, but definitely get it even if you didn't go in for that. read more

Pretty small portions for what you pay for. The tacos were good, but i wish they gave you more than a small cup of the mango salsa. I also wish they would serve the tacos with tortillas that dont fall apart, i ended up eating the whole thing using the chips, which wasnt bad at all! In here recently for lunch. The menu is rather limited, but I went with the fish and chips. I got five big chunks of fish, hot, well-fried. I had to borrow my wife's tartar sauce 'cause mine was gone half-way through the feed. (The sauce was a little bland, but not bad.) The chips were even better than the fish: crisp-crunchy on the outside, soft inside. Not an issue for me, though it was for some in the party: no beer. This place is not friendly towards people with kids. I had seen a few reviews saying as much and we experienced it as well. My 5 year old was starving and having a tough time. I took him outside to get him to chill and we came back inside to try again (my mom and older kiddo were seated). He had mostly calmed down and we were ordering drinks when another employee comes up and says that if we can't keep our voices down (in a restaurant that was already very loud?) we needed to leave. They offered us a discount if we wanted takeout. I was so flabbergasted I must have looked it because then she tells me "our boss in the kitchen can hear you" If that was the case, the boss should have come out and done their own dirty work. The discount on takeout just felt insulting. We ended up getting takeout from there after all, and the food was very mediocre. 3 of us ordered fish dishes, and all the fish was dry and overcooked. A cute little restaurant in downtown Seward. The Ambiance is casual and open. Service was friendly and accommodating. The closing time was listed as 9 pm. The food was quite tasty. The garlic Parmesan fries were great, although a bit greasy, with whole cloves of garlic. The halibut fish tacos were tender and the pineapple salsa was a nice touch. The halibut fish and chips were good, but for the price, my husband was expecting more. The grilled salmon was good, but slightly overcooked in my opinion. The fruit pie and the large chocolate cake were great, both large enough to share, especially the chocolate cake which was dark and super rich. Prices overall were on the high side, and we are coming from Southern California so we are used to high prices. read more

Very friendly, great service and great food. The garlic halibut was simple and expertly cooked and the salad that came with it was fresh and creative. Both generous portions. My friend also very much enjoyed the seafood pasta. Seafood chowder was creamy but not heavy and full of clams and fish. I would return if staying here longer. Service was very friendly, but that's it. Food is very overpriced and mediocre at best. Garlic halibut was oversalted, Tuscany salmon was dry but sauce was good, Steak burger that looked like a sandwiches was extremely greasy drenched in overpowering sauce. Seafood chowder was just average. When we raised our concerns about oversalted and greasy food that we couldn't eat, server said she was sorry we didn't enjoyed it. Halibut and Steak sandwich was left on the table as we paid the bill. There are much better restaurants in town with much better food at the same or lower price point. read more

If you're looking in Seward this is your spot. Food was good but they score Four stars for only two reasons. It's a tourist town and there's a lot of bad food in places like these. But above all else the ladies in here are working hard for you and they're super friendly. Service was great! The chowder was delicious. Tuscan Salmon was tasty but the portion was silly small and mine did not have a third of the sauce that was in the picture shown here. I was eating dry rice halfway through my meal. I should have said something but you get to that age man! Just shut up and eat. Wife got the fish and chips, I'll never understand this choice unless I'm stuck walking around in England. read more

We brought 4 people here the day before the Mount Marathon race, which is a very busy time so they could be forgiven if they were overwhelmed by the number of customers, but they handled a crowded restaurant with ease and cheerful grace. Everyone got served in a timely fashion. My 3 companions split a gold pan (crab, halibut fish and chips, and clam chowder) with 2 extra cups of chowder ordered, and I (allergic to shellfish) had pasta al salmone (a fettuccini Alfredo with sockeye salmon and assorted vegetables). Best Thing I Ever Ate: King Crab Leg Our favorite restaurant on our visit to Seward! We loved the halibut and came back again to order the Halibut Fish & Chips. The fish is perfectly cooked, with a light breading that doesn't detract from the fish's delicate flavor. The second time we order The Gold Pan, which added a King Crab Leg, and a bowl of chowder to the meal. The crab was the best I've ever had! The meat was sweet, and the leg was huge! The seafood chowder was really delicious. It was creamy without being too thick, and I tasted a slight touch of thyme. The addition of the soup almost made this platter too filling. My family and I were visiting Alaska for a few days and happened to stop in Seward looking for some good seafood. We were on the way to a different restaurant when we stopped by Gold Rush Bistro and decided to give it a try instead! We ordered the seafood chowder to share, then got the cod fish & chips, chipotle salmon burger, and halibut tacos. I had read reviews about the seafood chowder and felt like it lived up to the hype-- my mom did think it was a tad salty so if you tend to err on the lighter palate of things maybe give it a pass. The chipotle salmon burger was pretty good but I didn't feel like it was anything super special. The cod fish and chips were also pretty standard, but the HALIBUT TACOS. Man, they were SO good! If you're ever in the area, definitely give this place a try and especially get their halibut tacos. Every bite had the perfect mix of flavors between the char of the blackened Halibut and the subtly spicy jalapeño aioli, balanced nicely by the pico de gallo and cojita cheese. It was definitely pricier than I would have liked, especially for the portion size, but when else are you going to be in Alaska? Would definitely come back just for those tacos! read more
