My wife and I took the Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic to Seward on May 31, 2026. Got off the train and walked from the Seward Depot toward town. We were hungry and we could choose all the well-known tourist eateries and pay big bucks, or we could go into Alaska Seafood Grill for a more quiet, family-friendly experience. Walking in at 12:40 PM, we saw that we needed to order at the counter and they would bring the food to our table. There were some open tables, so we did not have to wait to be seated. We reviewed the items on the chalkboard menu above the ordering counter. I don't eat seafood, but luckily they offered a BBQ Bacon Burger with fries. My wife ordered seafood chowder. We also ordered a side of onion rings and bought a brownie for later. I found the burger and fries to be very filling and tasty. My wife enjoyed her chowder. We both liked the onion rings, which were NOT greasy at all. The brownie was soft, chocolatey, and VERY good, just the way we like it. The inside of the restaurant is definitely not what you would call a high-end environment. But, it was clean, quiet, functional, bright, and, most importantly, had clean tables and chairs on which to sit. The staff were all very friendly and answered all our questions. There was a man, perhaps he was the manager?, who walked, dressed, and spoke like he would be more at home in Boston instead of Seward. This is NOT a complaint about him, just an observation. We spoke with him and he answered all our questions in a friendly manner. I don't know that we will ever visit Seward again, but if we do we would definitely return to Alaska Seafood Grill for lunch. read more

We stopped by here after an 8.5-hour cruise--it's super convenient since it's right across from the harbor where the cruises dock. Prices lean toward the higher side for a casual establishment though that seems to be the norm in Seward. For comparison, I paid about the same for fish and chips at another nice restaurant nearby the night before. A heads-up: the fish here is fried with panko breading, so if you're (like me) expecting New Zealand-style or classic English beer-battered this might not hit the mark. The fries were excellent tho and the seafood chowder was the real star--rich, flavorful, and loaded with salmon chunks. Would I order the fish and chips again? Probably not. But I'd definitely come back just for seafood chowder!! read more

Very limited options and VERY VERY EXPENSIVE for such a casual ambiance place. The vibe says wings, pizza, and paper plates with your buddies. The prices say fine wine and white tablecloths. There weren't a lot of options on a Sunday evening in the fall. The seafood was WAY too expensive for what they were offering. Literally can get a 5 star meal at some places for what they're charging here, so we got a pizza, and my husband got a side of fries. We watched the football game while we waited so that was nice. The fries were meh. We left them largely unfinished. I'm super picky about pizza, and their pizza was very good. Sauce and cheese were ok, but the crust was outstanding. It's literally one of the best I've ever had. Toppings were generous by Alaskan standards. Appreciate that the drinks were free refills. From a pizza perspective only, especially if you enjoy sports, imma a say this is a solid 4. They even had a few beers on tap, which may make the difference for some folks. The food is decent, and prices may seem high, but they are comparable to the other restaurants in this tourist town. I tried the crab cake sandwich which I have never had anywhere before. I can't speak to seafood, but their coffee is terrible. No coffee at all in my daughters iced latte. The 2 hot latte's taste like regular coffee. I got the regular coffee was not impressive either. The breakfast sandwich was pretty good. read more

Things are expensive in Seward and the pickings are slim, but at least this restaurant offers a fair quantity of food and we found the Rockfish Fish and Chips to be as good as anywhere we have tried before. French fries were good. Service was friendly. Ambiance is simple. Clean and well stocked with condiments and supplies. We also had breakfast there in the morning before starting our fishing charter. Their website says you can order box lunches from open to close, so I do that, I get there and they tell me they don't make lunches till 12. i order a energy drink and some other stuff on their website to take on a boat ride at 5:30 am and again, they said they don't know what I'm talking about.they need to get their story straight on their website. We wanted fish and chips without going to a sit down restaurant and this place was perfect! Between the members of our party, we had the halibut, the salmon, and the cod fish and chips. All were excellent. The panko coating was crisp and not at all oily. The sauces seemed to be made on site (not sure) but were delicious. Not sure why it has a lower star rating here--the reviews seem to indicate that it's due to the prices, but we checked menus all over town before picking this place and the prices were comparable. Seward is just an expensive place to dine out. The portions were generous enough that we could have split two portions between the three of us in our party. Ignore the bad reviews and give it a try. We stopped in mid afternoon on a Saturday and were treated like we were important customers. The menu varies to accommodate seafood and meat eaters both. Stopped in with the family during our trip in Seward and we were very unimpressed with this place. First, my husbands fish had so many bones in it and the cod looked like mushrooms. Very odd. We also ordered a "crispy chicken sandwich" which turned out to be a Tyson chicken patty with a slice of Kraft cheese thrown on with no bun/bread. For $15, I would not have paid that for a Tyson chicken patty. The half decent good thing on the menu were the fries. Very overpriced for the quality of food. read more

We had just finished an morning excursion of glacier dog sledding and was looking for lunch, it was actually a bit sad to see most of the restaurants were closed at the Seward port. The few that were opened was swamped with long lines. We walked into Alaska Seafood Grill because it was the first one we see without a line and open! The menu was quite limited, but I got the halibut sandwich with fries and hubby got the fried halibut with shrimp and chips. Have to admit the price was quite high for over-counter food, but hey you are in a very touristy town of Seward! We found a table outside and our lunch was brought out to us about 10 minutes later. Number one reason for the three stars is that pricing just does not match what you get in return at all. I paid $28.75 for fish and chips (only two pieces of Halibut) and a diet coke. The two pieces of fish I received were super small and the fries were eh.. Not at all justifiable for a no-frills shack. Also, about 80% of the menu board was barred out upon arrival and as most of the restaurants are closed for lunch and only open at 4pm, this is one of the few places in your list of lunch options. Worst fried cod I've ever had. Basically inedible. It's was cut into little steaks instead of fillets. We had to pick bones and skin out of it. I've never been served cod with skin and bones in any restaurant ever. I'm assuming they probably got small whole cod from the processor for dirt cheap and are trying to capitalize off it instead of buying larger more expensive fillets. I went here to get food to go. Ordered the crab cake (12.50 for 1). And clam chowder, after I put in my order and paid to wait for my food I noticed a few things that bothered me. First there is covid and seward has a mask mandate and not 1 employee was wearing a mask. They have customers share a handful of ketchup bottles. I reviewed my receipt and noticed they charged .25 for 2 to go containers, but if you eat there and ask for a to go container they do not charge you. Which their employee confirmed. Of course did not tell me of the charges when ordered. On top of all of that, when reviewing my receipt (after i paid already)there was a "rounding adjustment " to make the bill round up to the next quarter. I asked about this additional charge and she said it was due to a change shortage.....I PAID WITH A CARD. Secondly there is not a sign or any employee telling you. My boyfriend and I came here on a rainy week and most of the restaurant were closed. Either due to Covid or low tourist season. This place is one of two restaurants that was opened. We were cold and wet and wanted something warm so we ordered the chowder. Y'all!! Get the chowder. It's the best thing on the menu. We followed up on that with the 3 piece salmon and chips and a dozen oysters (only comes deep fried) and some Alaskan "burrs". Oysters tasted fresh and were nice and juicy. Upscale seafood prices for subpar basic fish fry. I'm sorry but the rice bowl fish is such a low effort dish. Doubt the salmon was seasoned with anything besides salt and pepper and was over cooked. He is banking that visitors make the same assumption I did that it is fresh fish being caught in the last day or so and charging a mint for it.
