Booked Ray's Waterfront for 5 pm and was surprised to still see people waiting 30 to 40 minutes. Yesterday the wait at 6 pm was 1 hour 15 minutes, so we skipped it and went to Tidewater Taphouse instead. That food was mediocre, but at least we did not wait forever. Today it was pouring in Seward, and the one genuinely lovely part of the experience was the window seat. The rainy harbor view was beautiful, and we even saw baby otters while waiting for the food. Service was inconsistent from the start. We were never given table bread, even though every table around us got some, so not sure what happened there. We started with oysters, and they were just okay. Definitely not memorable, and nowhere close to Taylor Shellfish oysters on Chuckanut Drive. For mains, we ordered the halibut fish and chips and the halibut Andaman. Both were disappointing. The halibut was dry and chewy, which was surprising given how expensive it was. I love fish and usually enjoy sea bass and cod, but this did not work for me at all. The Andaman description mentioned fish with rice and vegetables, but it literally came with rice and basically two pieces of broccoli. For the price, that felt almost insulting. Two mains alone were close to $100. Dessert completely finished off whatever goodwill I still had. We ordered ice cream with hot fudge, but it looked like it had been sitting out too long before being served. The fudge was not even warm, and the ice cream was already half melted. Overall, Ray's Waterfront gets points for the harbor view and atmosphere, especially on a cold rainy July Sunday in Seward. Food: We decided on this place going off of a local's favorite recommendations. This seafood restaurant got everything we ordered right. Superb flavor, great taste, very good presentation and generous portions! Crab cakes, ultimate seafood linguini and halibat andaman were just chef's kiss!! :) Service: Wonderful service by Linda. This was probably my favorite meal in Seward. We started with crab cakes which were amazing, I like when there's chunks of veggies in it and it was fried perfectly. The halibut andaman was so good, the crust with macadamias was still crunchy and the curry sauce it's served in was nice to warm us up after a chilly day. The service was great, we basically got what the waiter recommended. My friend got the seafood pasta which she also enjoyed. Definitely recommend this to everyone going to Seward! Just a heads up, there's a wait esp if there are cruise ships in the port, so plan accordingly! For the cost of the food, I don't think it's worth it. Ordered calamari, a burger, a NY strip, seafood linguine and the fish and chips (cod). Had the chocolate dessert and the sundae as well. Calamari was pretty decent. The Burger was ok. NY strip was mediocre and the sides tasted like something from an old folks home. Seafood Linguine was hot and cooked decent and wasn't horrible, but wasn't spectacular either. The fish and chips was fried properly, but it was cold like is sat in the window too long and the tartar sauce had too much onion in it or something and couldn't be eaten more than one bite without being overwhelming. The chocolate desert was meh, but the sundae was better. Service was spectacular. Front of the house was friendly, prompt. I never had my drinks refilled so much and without asking and asking. Plates cleared multiple times throughout our service. Server was great. Very, very high prices. Portions very small to split between two people if one wants to be reasonable about what they spend. Salmon undercooked and mushy. No flavor at all. Expensive, too! Hollandaise sauce on the side, yucky. No flavor either. Only accept cash. Interesting. Unable to get a separate check per couple at a "group table." All charged as one and parties left to "figure it out." Gratuity as part of charge based upon bill, not on what individuals or couples ordered. Almost impossible to figure out. Service fair. Never checked back on quality of order. 4 small slices of bread for 2 provided. Extra charge to ask for more! I would not recommend this restaurant. We live in Alaska and will not be back. First recommendation is to make a reservation! We are residents visiting from Anchorage but that dinner rush filled in quickly, especially because of the season. Waited a true hour but it went by fast being able to look around. Overall service and food were great! We had a gorgeous window overlooking the harbor that tied in a great visit.
