We brought 4 people here the day before the Mount Marathon race, which is a very busy time so they could be forgiven if they were overwhelmed by the number of customers, but they handled a crowded restaurant with ease and cheerful grace. Everyone got served in a timely fashion. My 3 companions split a gold pan (crab, halibut fish and chips, and clam chowder) with 2 extra cups of chowder ordered, and I (allergic to shellfish) had pasta al salmone (a fettuccini Alfredo with sockeye salmon and assorted vegetables). Best Thing I Ever Ate: King Crab Leg Our favorite restaurant on our visit to Seward! We loved the halibut and came back again to order the Halibut Fish & Chips. The fish is perfectly cooked, with a light breading that doesn't detract from the fish's delicate flavor. The second time we order The Gold Pan, which added a King Crab Leg, and a bowl of chowder to the meal. The crab was the best I've ever had! The meat was sweet, and the leg was huge! The seafood chowder was really delicious. It was creamy without being too thick, and I tasted a slight touch of thyme. The addition of the soup almost made this platter too filling. My family and I were visiting Alaska for a few days and happened to stop in Seward looking for some good seafood. We were on the way to a different restaurant when we stopped by Gold Rush Bistro and decided to give it a try instead! We ordered the seafood chowder to share, then got the cod fish & chips, chipotle salmon burger, and halibut tacos. I had read reviews about the seafood chowder and felt like it lived up to the hype-- my mom did think it was a tad salty so if you tend to err on the lighter palate of things maybe give it a pass. The chipotle salmon burger was pretty good but I didn't feel like it was anything super special. The cod fish and chips were also pretty standard, but the HALIBUT TACOS. Man, they were SO good! If you're ever in the area, definitely give this place a try and especially get their halibut tacos. Every bite had the perfect mix of flavors between the char of the blackened Halibut and the subtly spicy jalapeño aioli, balanced nicely by the pico de gallo and cojita cheese. It was definitely pricier than I would have liked, especially for the portion size, but when else are you going to be in Alaska? Would definitely come back just for those tacos! read more

Wow. I am surprised how rude one staff member was at this restaurant. We're a group of 11 with small children. We're outside waiting for the restaurant to open since we're tourists and heard it's a nice place to dine. A lady from the restaurant came out and told us they're opening late- no problem, we understand. Then the lady adds to my 9 year old son "let me know when you're done drawing on my windows so I can clean it when you're done. Good job, parents!" Wow! We're all waiting in front of the restaurant and my son blows warm air onto her window to draw in the steamed window with his fingers while we're waiting and she's gets that upset. And it's raining and misting all day today! We quietly left because we can tell she didn't want us there and she might spit in our food. If she gets that upset about kids being kids, she may get upset about kids moving around or kids talking loud. Not a good place for families. read more

Firstly, yelp said it was closed today but nope definitely open, and thank goodness!! Omg sooo delicious!! We had a party of 5 (2 adults and 3 tween/teen kids). I had the grilled halibut with jasmine rice and salad - FANTASTIC! Cooked perfectly and the salad was creative and yummy...also this was gluten free and I didn't have to make any changes or substitutions. I should also add that they offer the choice for gluten free buns on their burgers/sandwiches and gf fries. My daughter got the street tacos and said they were the 2nd best she's EVER had and cleaned her plate. The fish and chips were aptly described as lightly fried and perfectly cooked and my nephew who had never had fish and chips before (and who is incredibly picky) raved about it and declared he now loves halibut. So yeah, all great, including the burgers and fries. Service was friendly and great. And as I write this the table next to us is gushing about their food too. Lol read more

Great service and delicious food! We came here for lunch and were seated right away (recommend calling to double check operating hours). The inside of the restaurant is clean, bright, welcoming and very relaxed. We ordered the halibut burger and the cod fish & chips and both were absolutely delicious. The cod was flaky and seasoned perfectly with a light breading! The French fries were cooked perfectly...probably the best French fries I've had a in a very long time. The tartar sauce was the best I've ever had and seemed to be homemade! The halibut burger was also very, very good seasoned and cooked perfectly! The family behind us had come from Anchorage to fill up before the season closes in; which meant it must be good. I ordered the Tuscan salmon; husband garlic halibut and seafood chowder. First time in Seward and we really wanted to try this spot. When you enter the restaurant you'll nice immediately the family atmosphere. They have maybe 16-18 tables, decor that makes me think log cabin, and the friendliest staff ever. We were seated right away and we greeted with water very soon after. We ordered the Honey Bacon Sweet Potato Fries for a starter, they were DELICIOUS! I had the Halibut Tacos for my meals while she had the Cod Fish and Chips. She said her fish and chips was very good, lots of flavor and cooked to perfection. My tacos were also pretty good but they could have gave me more fish in them and the toppings were ok the light side. This spot can easily be a 5 star spot with a few adjustments, everything was really good and we will be back next time we are in town! read more

The restaurant has a beautiful view of the mountains as you're eating. Our only critique would be the wait time was much longer than they had told us at the front (15 min wait ended up being a 45+ minute wait to get seated). Food was pricy but good - portions are perfect. We got the Garlic Parmesan Fries, Steak Tacos, and Halibut Tacos all of which we'd order again! After 6 days of meals in Alaska, this was my best yet. Had the seafood chowder which was not as super creamy as others I've had and was a great consistency. Not too thick and it too thin. The chunks of seafood were perhaps a bit too small but the flavor was excellent. Then had the halibut and salmon plate. Both were lightly fried and the flavor of the seafood really shines. Food was well below average, although edible when one is very hungry. When you look in the kitchen you realize the reason. There are four of what appear to be teenage boys pretending to cook. The grilled Halibut was a tasteless piece of fish next to a mound of white rice that was equally lacking in flavor. Not even a morsel of salt! Food was decent. Service was awful. I told people on their way to go somewhere else. I am trying to be as honest as possible and give everyone the benefit of a bad day, short staff, poor luck, etc. Today was not their day.... Let's start with the host having on a shirt for another place? Am i in the right spot? Oh yeah... forgot what i was wearing... ok?!? Sat down, water was brought, server comes 5 minutes later, are you ready to order? Didn't get the chance to order anything other than water. Server confused by the menu. Unsure what is in what dish.. has to ask kitchen many questions. We ask for a soda. Soda arrives 15min later, followed by our meals. Forgot i even ordered a soda... but ok. My water is now empty as well as my kids. Halibut quesadilla... tasty but whoa spicy. Blackened for real. Kids enjoy their meals. No one comes by to check on anything, must flag someone down to mention as error on the salad my wife ordered. They apologize and offer to make another. We all proceed to finish our meals. Remade salad arrives. We are offered the check as a question, i wanted to decline it, but that would have been really confusing. I paid cash to avoid more waiting, but we left with minimal tip.
