I needed a Pioneer AVH-2300NEX head unit installed in my Mitsubishi Lancer. I called Gold Sound and asked for a quote. Mr. Park asked me a few questions (my car's year, make, and model, the type of head unit, etc.) and then gave me his quote. I called at around 1:30PM and he told me the install it would take about 1-1.5 hours and that I could go and get it done the same day I called. Mr. Park is a great guy. He let me help him while I was there, even though I was probably slowing him down. He took the time to show me how everything got installed, wired, etc., so the next time I could install it myself. I love my new head unit and I'm planning on getting a backup camera added. I wouldn't go anywhere else other than Gold Sound to get it installed. I went to Soundz Good first down on western and roscoe and they upcharged me to about 500.00+ bypass....... on a 04 forester, ya, ok blow me. Took it to Gold Sound and the guy set me up with a great remote start and installation for 250.00, I waited a few months to make sure nothing has gone awry but its 100% legit. Paul Yoon is the best! If you want your vehicles windows tinted look no further- Paul does an awesome job and stands by his work. One of the last of the little guys trying to make a living. I saw the other post and I need to offer my opinion. Gold Star has been in the neighborhood for years. I've had 4 cars that all had alarms installed by this place with absolutely no problems. If I ever had a question or needed assistance, they helped me right away. Yeah, the shop is not what you'd see on Michigan avenue, but it's a shop who installs radios and alarms. You want a huge selection, go to best buy and pay triple, otherwise give this guy a chance. I had my stereo and front speakers installed at Gold Sound. The installation was perfect, and Mr. Park gave me a fair deal. He also noticed my wife's antenna was broken and installed a replacement. Few tips: 1) As Paul P. stated it is better to bring your own stereo and/or speakers that you purchased from Best Buy, Crutchfield, etc and have it installed here. If you are looking to buy a new stereo on the spot, this place might not be for you because the selection does not seem very large. 2) Before running out and buying a brand new stereo, have Mr. Park take a look to see if it can be fixed. He is old school like that and tries to fix things, unlike the dealer that will just try to sell you a brand new radio. He also has a lot of old stereos and parts from customers that no longer had any use for them, so there is a possibility he might have a used, OEM replacement to sell you. 3) They also sell and install tint and sell and install remote starters 4) Call ahead to see when they can fit you in. They answered all the customer calls while I was there. 5) Finally, the waiting area might not be fancy and glitzy and the exterior might look a bit dated, but if you want your car stereo installed, fixed etc this place is top notch. Don't just a book by it's cover. Sure, other places might look fancy on the outside with bright lights,fancy displays, etc but that doesn't mean it will be installed correctly. read more

This was a family run place so I got personal attention from the owners who work there. I was having a problem with the cables that went into my radio and other places one of them best buy were not even going to try to fix this complicate problem. So I went to gold sound where I have always driven passed but never gave it much attention. As soon as I walked in they wanted to help me and gave me a quote right there on the spot. They charged me $65 to fix the cables and connect my new radio that i bought from Radio Shack. And happily they through in a Auxiliary Cable for my I-pod for free. In less than 15 minutes the technician was done with installing my radio and happily let me watch him install it next to him. Overall I recommend this place to anyone who wants there radio, stereos, or even there windows tinted with quality work and a great price!! read more

A previous reviewer, Morgan M, who thought this place is some kind of crime den, is simply a dippy anxiety neurotic. The owner is a pathologically helpful Korean gentleman who has children and plays soccer. He is also the soul of integrity. I was not happy with the first car radio he installed, so he swapped it out -- after two months -- for one that had easier controls to manage. Then, when it was burned out by a jumper-cable start, he talked his supplier into respecting the warranty anyway, and I got a brand new Kenwood for $40. Gold Sound has very solid word of mouth in the repair business. I was sent there by Tolzien's in Skokie, the best auto shop I've ever encountered in some 50 years of driving. I have been a customer of Gold Sound over 10 years and through three different cars. Mr Sung Park does excellent work in INSTALLING AND MAINTAINING audio systems and alarm systems. There are two things I feel are very good about Mr Park's work. (1) When he makes a guarantee he sticks with it and, (2) when you present him with an issue, he works very diligently to diagnose the problem BEFORE applying a fix. Most recently, I had a problem with a door lock. Mr. Park told me that the problem had nothing to do with the alarm system he had installed but he agreed to take a look at the problem and if he could not fix it, he would not charge me. My auto mechanic had told me the problem was in the actuator (motor) for the lock and he proposed replacing that part. I did not think the actuator was the problem because the lock worked perfectly sometimes and then not at all. Mr. Park dis-assembled the door and tested several things including the actuator and found that it was working OK. He then began testing other components and found that a defective relay was causing the problem. I left with working door locks and more importantly, left with the reinforced knowledge that Mr. Park does excellent work and that he really cares about his customers. I asked Gold Sound for a quote on replacing my stereo and 4 speakers with a new set I had purchased online. They gave me the lowest quote in town. I then went in and 30 minutes into the replacement, they called me to let me know that my original speakers were better quality than the ones I had purchased, so they recommended keeping the old speakers and just replacing the stereo unit. They didn't charge me for any of the speaker replacements, even though they had taken the time to detach the door panels and everything. And afterwards they helped me diagnose a problem with my front tweeters for no charge. Simply wonderful service at unbeatable prices. Highly recommended. read more

yea its a hole in the But... been going here for 25 years. and mr park has always givin me a good deal.. he knows a lot and has lots of old parts and radios hes gotten off leftovers from up grades hes done... he'll sell u them cheap if u just want to get u sound working again... once I bought a 2001 honda accord for a family member but the stereo would not work... he told me that I needed the code for it... dealer didnt have it... he new who to contact at honda to get it.. and it worked ... saved me the cost of a new stereo.. he said it was the best eom they put in that car at the time and it was worth waiting to get the code.. he hardly charged me for it... let me say when u go there you have to engage him first tell him what u want... walk back f o the shop if u have hes very nic but shy like that way.. a little geeky always working on several things at once.. he has some equiptment for sale but selling stufff is not hig on his list... he likes people to by the speakers etc. and bring them to him ... hes not a salesman so much as a good installer who wont rip u off or over charge u... he has installed several stereo systems for me back n the day I would find (usually at cructhfield.com great selection and prices) I was always happy... im going back soon to have him install some CDT speakers in my 2011 mazda6 cause the 7 speaker bose nav. system. I paid big bucks for needs better speakers and ppl say cdt's are the best... I will go see when he can work me in and wait ... Took my car to Gold Sound today. Had the radio guy to look at mt Jessen c// cassette player (which I had in install in the nineties)It came with a cd/ cassette player.It finnally played out. The radio guy spent time trying to repair it but to know avail. He suggested that I put it to rest a invest in a new one, which I did. I have been without a working CD and tape player in my Nissan Pathfinder for about 8 months now. Only having the radio to listen to really is crappy.
