Alright bagels. Huge ripoff. Just got a bagel with lox and cream cheese. They charges me a $1.50 extra (on top of the 7.50 already) for chive cream cheese, then gave me the bagel with plain cream cheese. Of course it was a to go order. Way to nickel and dime me and not even deliver. And, it had like 2 pieces of smoked salmon. Do bagels elsewhere. This place has no bang for the buck. read more

These are the best bagels I've ever had in my life. No kidding. Could be because its been so long since I've had a NY style bagel. Last time was when Brenner's was in business. Anyway very good bagels made the right way by boiling first and then baking. Loved them. Bad location, kind of hard to get to. Bare bones. The food is very good, no question. I was frustrated by their pricing, which seems arbitrary and high for some things. A tub of lox cream cheese costs $4.35. A bagel costs $0.95. A plain bagel with a schmear of lox cream cheese is a whopping $4.50, which is not clear from the menu posted on the wall. The service is slow at best, and the staff seem less than interested in having customers. There are no smiles of welcome or "thank you for your business." The bagels are authentic and tasty, and they have all the great traditional toppings and sides too! So. Good. I grew up in New York, and let me tell you: there is certainly a difference between a bagel and a New York bagel, and these guys have nailed it spot on. It's become my go-to place (I'm there way more often than I care to admit), very reminiscent of my Saturday morning bagel run as a kid. I've really only had the basics here, most typically a cinnamon raison with low fat cream cheese, but I can only imagine the rest of their menu is just as good. Fabulous iced coffee, too! read more

I needed to kill an hour and a half at 9.30 in the morning and found myself in a bit of a coffee desert. The bagel shop is nestled roadside in the midst of gas stations and places you go to Get Things Done (like dry clean clothes and fix your car). But don't be fooled! Excellent bagels and excellent service await you! Bagel eaten, coffee drank, wifi used, and car inspection done, I returned home with an arm full of bagels, lox, and shmear to go. I am a happy Keet. --Drinks-- The coffee was o.k. but that was to be expected as they only have drip coffee. However, they have a bunch of other bottled juices and sodas in fridges if you are so inclined. --Snacks-- I ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese and a large coffee. The bagel had a nice crusty exterior and an interior with just the right amount of give. It came pre-shmeared it with a very healthy amount of cream cheese. They had many other bagels: in sandwich form, with lox, with shmears of all kinds, but this one was mine. --Amenities-- Free wifi and a few tables (I scored the one window table). read more

Good enough bagels but definitely not what I would consider a true NYC bagel. The bagels are a little too small and dense for my taste. We asked for toasted but the bagels weren't even warm when we got them. That said, I'm not sure you can really get true NYC bagels anywhere outside of NYC, and I'd go back to this place again when I'm craving a bagel. read more

I didn't care too much for bagels until I tried these. Their blueberry bagels are to die for. The selection is always fresh and delicious.

Two Stars? Yup. Even though they are extremely friendly. The serving sizes are extremely small. I would say, they can do a better job on the quality, and service they provide. Otherwise, I highly recommend them. read more

Goldberg's proximity (across the street) from my nail salon has been quite convenient for my monthly weekend ritual - sleep in, eventually awaken from my slumber, go to Golberg's, grab the usual, and then settle in at Fantasy Nails (see review), and get pampered. My usual order is either an everything or garlic bagel with lox and cream cheese and all of the toppings. The bagels are freshly made and you can definitely tell the difference. I do wish they gave more lox but that's probably just me - I can never have too much lox. Unlike some of the others, I think the cream cheese portion is more than generous. The service/hospitality of the owner/managers can't be beat - he will remember you, your preferences, and always make small talk. I will choose to come to Golberg's over one of the chains any day. read more

Better bagels than Einstein's - but that's not saying much. The bagels themselves are pretty good, but in my book it's not a real New York bagel unless it has enough cream cheese that you can actually taste it. Even after I explained how much I wanted and gave a finger approximation at the Goldberg's counter I got a paltry smear. If I hadn't been getting the bagels to go and had realized before I got home how little cream cheese there was, I would've asked for about three times more than what they gave us. The lox spread was forgettable and barely tasted like lox. The potato knishes were too dry and fairly bland. The service was pleasant but slow. I'll still probably choose Goldberg's over the closer Einstein's - but if I want a real New York bagel, I now know to ask for extra, extra, extra cream cheese. And to confirm I get it. read more

Delicious bagel sandwiches and coffee (option of bold or mild) for breakfast. The bagels are dense and chewy and the coffee was piping hot - definitely a win. Best of all, open earlier than many other options around. They take carry out orders so it's easy to call ahead and have hot breakfast waiting once you get there. There's also a few tables for a more leisurely sit down experience. Well worth the traffic on Georgia for a quick pop-in. We'll definitely be back! read more

Admittedly I am no bagel connoisseur - I have no idea of a "real" bagel vs an imposter (according to my father who is) but I have to say these are some darn good carbs. The crust hard a thin hard crunch but the inside was a chewy, soft, flavorful delight. Unlike other reviewers, I found the counter staff delightful. The prices were very reasonable and the only complaint is it's quirky location. BTW, Dad the connoisseur gives it a hearty thumbs up! He said if he can't get to Abraham's in Newburyport this will do just fine. read more

They charge $0.99 to get lettuce and tomato on your bagel. This isn't new York. We are in Silver Spring. You can't get away with that here.

Just a short review...I took a detour from my destination to visit Goldbergs because I wanted a bagel with lox. Yelp guided me to a nice upscale location. I arrived at 11:15 so it wasn't too crowded but there were quite a few locals in there. The line moved quickly and service was friendly. I was surprised that a box with lox and all the trimmings (tomato,onion, and capers was $6.99. Even better it was Wednesday, so it was a special at $5.99! Well, the bagel was a bargain. While the bagel itself was not the best I have had, it was good. the lox was plentiful and very well flavored and just salty enough. There was no skimping on the ingredients either. I will be back when I visit the area again. read more

The bagels were fine but the service was subpar. We waited 20 minutes for two toasted everything bagels and it wasn't even busy. For the amount of time we waited and the price we paid for the bagels, it just wasn't worth it. They even had to ask us what our order was again. Just love this place. Service is great and if you don't like the toppings, make your own! These are real bagels, everything else is just round bread. To compare these bagels to anything other than H&H is a crime. When we decided move into DC Goldberg's was one of the reasons we wanted to stay in Silver Spring. Only complaint is they aren't open on Saturdays, but I guess they do that for a good reason. read more

Expensive bagel sandwich. I stopped by for the first time and ordered a "sausage egg and cheese" bagel sandwich and the total come out to $7.14 (after tax). The menu on the wall says $5.99. I didn't realized the extra charge until I arrived to work so I called. I was told there was a sign somewhere that they charged extra .75 for egg/cheese. $7.14 is rather expensive for an average bagel sandwich. They should update their posted price on the wall rather than hidden where new customers like myself would not notice. A little misleading. I will buy my breakfast at the breakfast bar at work for less than half the price for the same bagel sandwich. read more

This is my first review ever on yelp and I had to do it. I bought a sesame bagel yesterday and I wondered why he was checking the bagels like he was looking for the best one. When I ate the bagel this morning, I could not finish eating it, it was so stale. I will not go back. I would not have sold that bagel to anyone or for that matter given it away. If I could give a 0 star, I would. NY would be upset that people are comparing these stale bagels to their amazing bagels. read more

Delicious! I ordered the lox on rye with cream cheese and it was as close to a NYC bagel as you can get. Additionally, the atmosphere was reminiscent of a real bagel joint...one with personality as opposed to all the bougie gentrified establishments that are increasingly popping up these days. The workers aren't super friendly, but when I go to a place like this, I feel like I'm in Manhattan. Therefore, the personality within the place is to be expected. Highly recommended if you like the style/atmosphere of NYC as well as delicious bagels! read more
