The whitefish delicious! Delicately smoked whitefish had the consistency of a Tuna fish, with the occasional whitefish chunk, yum! And the Bagels were fresh, with a nice chewy texture. These are definitely some of the best bagels in the DMV. They have a fantastic breakfast menu that boasts these bagels on 90% of their sandwiches and does not disappoint. The everything bagels are my personal favorite and they are nicely toasted, with the perfect amount of whipped cream cheese on them. Enough to satisfy your breakfast cravings but at times, I also get these bagels with their sausage egg and cheese sandwich, which has become a favorite of mine. Goldberg's is the bomb. Best bagels in DC, with all the bagel flavors and fixings (lox, various cream cheese flavors) you could possibly want. They are closed on Saturdays, so you know these are legitimate Jewish bagels! Sunday mornings are quite busy, and the staff can be a bit surly depending on who you get and what kind of day they are having, but it's all part of the experience. They are generally very efficient, so things tend to move pretty fast. This place is also great (and much less crowded) for lunch. read more

The greatest sadness of being diagnosed Celiac last year is that I can no longer eat Goldberg's bagels. Note that I didn't say bagels in general - I mean exclusively Goldberg's. These bagels are freaking ambrosia of the gods. Chewy, moist, dense, with a good bite. Go on Sunday mornings and expect to wait in line for 10 min, but it's worth it. They make great bagel sandwiches too. Best bagels ever! I'm very surprised at some of the one star reviews, I love this place! Living in the DC area for he past 15 years, one of the hardest things to find was a quality bagel like the ones from back home in Jersey. Goldberg' absolutely fits that bill;crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, these bagels are the closest thing I've found to Jersey (which makes sense, because according to one of their workers they get their dough from Hoboken a few times a week). It's closed Saturday's and can get busy on Sunday's, so get there early. Yes, the customer service can use a little work, but it gets crazy there on weekends, the line often extends out the door. The bagels are very good...if you can get them. Unless you are there early in the morning, the bins are empty. Other than @ 7:30 am, I have been there @ 10:00, Noon and 1:30 and each time my bagel choices were extremely limited. I've even been willing to come back the same day if someone would give me an idea when more would be delivered...the best response that I have been given is, "I don't know. Sometime." I really used to like visiting Goldberg's for my monthly bagel sandwich. I find their bagels to taste more authentic and their sandwiches to be really filling. However, the service is hit-or-miss. Aside from the space feeling slightly unkempt, they have been out of the bagels I like more than once. Additionally, when I was last waiting, the man taking my order was curt ("What do you want"?) and then he was MUCH nicer to the family standing behind me ("How can I help? How are you today?"). I really didn't feel like my business was wanted, and I simply want to be greeted like anyone/everyone else. i have often wondered about the need to place the name of a specific geographic location in front of a certain type of food. does the fact that said food item is lauded as being from a certain region of the world, truly make it superior to identical food items from a different region? i am from the great state (of which all states claim the same title of greatness) of Maryland. much to my consternation, i discovered once while visiting Ireland many years ago, that there was a restaurant that was proudly serving Maryland Chicken. i had no idea that the Irish held our chicken in such high regard, especially considering that i, being a native of Maryland, found no special qualities about the poultry of our state. many years later, i was dumbfounded to learn, that while vacationing down in the great state of South Carolina, that there was a chain of restaurants named Maryland Fried Chicken. i had no idea that fried chicken from my great state had such a venerable reputation to our neighbors to the south and with such a delectable stature, it makes perfect sense not to have a single franchise within the great state of Maryland. who else would know how Maryland fried chicken should taste like? not Marylanders. onto the bagels from the great state of New York, or more than likely, from the great city of New York located within the great state of New York. i have had bagels before and from a good many locations all over the these great United States. admittedly, i have no great fondness for bagels (i'm just not that into them), but i'll eat them every now and again. perhaps that is why bagels pretty much all taste the same to me, no matter what part of the country that i maybe residing. onto the experience. the family and i stumbled upon this place while running errands over the weekend. it's a nice little place smashed inside one of the most horrendous strip malls on the face of the planet. we had a very fine tuna melt bagel that was accompanied by a vinegary side of home fries and an egg bagel sandwich. not bad. i was unable to discern whether the bagels were actually baked and shipped from New York or made with New York ingredients, but i could tell that half of the people that were preparing the bagels were, more than likely, not from New York. i'm guessing El Salvador - but they might El Salvadorian New Yorkers. who knows? if there is something that might dissuade you from trying out the authentic 'New Yorkness' of the bagels, have some comfort in knowing that this place is 100% Kosher. at least that part of authentic bagels remains unblemished. so don't come here on a Saturday expecting a New York bagel gentile, cause this place is closed and your butt ought to be either praising the Most High or at lest resting. ya heard!? mazal tov!! read more

Disappointed to say the least. Came in at 11:10 for coffee and a bagel. Have not been here for a while due to being out of town. But before then many times. Not a good selection of bagels this time. Ended up with a cheese danish must have been here for a while. Got a large cup of self-serve coffee. First thing I noticed no more free refills. One of the thermoses was out leaving one to choose from. Filled my cup up took a sip and it was cold. Told the gentleman behind the counter he told me he would microwave it. I told him know that I would like to wait for fresh coffee looked at me with disgust and gave a grunt told me it would be awhile. Informed him I have cancer and I don't do anything in the microwave. Deeply disappointed with my experience ordering bagels from Goldberg's for a event that I was hosting. I pre-paid an order of 8 dozen bagels and then paid an extra fee to ensure that those bagels were sliced. I had my mother pick up the order the day of our party, only to receive an overfull box, that she could barely carry and required the help of two other people to get into our event space. Then we discovered that none of the bagels had been sliced, and instead of decorating the space, we had to devote several people to slicing the bagels by hand. When I called to complain, a manager told me that I had in fact not been charged to have my bagels sliced, and that I probably hadn't requested that they be sliced. It soon became clear that a) he had not even looked at my order before accusing me of lying b) that he had absolutely no familiarity with my order, as he couldn't even tell me how many bagels I had ordered or what the cost would be. It was only after I pulled up my credit card statement that they then checked their records and confirmed that I had paid for the bagels to be sliced. He then said that they would refund the bagel slicing fee, but never acknowledged the condescending way in which he initially spoke to me, nor did he offer any sort of explanation for what happened or indicate steps that would be taken to ensure that such a mistake does not happen again in the future. I would be deeply reluctant to order from Goldberg's again for any even that I host. read more

Great bagel place! This was my first trip in even though I work in the community and was very impressed by Goldberg's bagels! True NYC style, taste, and quality! I did learn a quick tip while in that if you call ahead they will have your order waiting for you (I need to remember this for when I'm in a rush)! I love that the restaurant is right at the Georgia and 16th street split WITH parking!! I got an egg and cheese for breakfast and it's cooked on a grill not like other bagel shops. I literally love there bagels and I have yet to have a bad one. The reason that I give them a one star as I avoid this place now, because every time I go in there the people working are rude. Never once have I gone in to grab a bagel has anyone welcomed you with a smile or thanked you for dining there. If this place were in Brooklyn, it wouldn't survive. The bagels are a solid three, good but not great. The Black Russian bagel and the pumpernickel bagel are too bland . The bialys are excellent with an abundance of Poppy seeds and sweet, almost caramelized onions. The huge problem with store is it runs out of bagels as early as 9.a.m. Products like pickles and kippered Salmon are unavailable for weeks at a time. Goldberg's is good. Really good. I haven't found a bagel as good as these outside of New York City. The coffee, sandwiches, and other items are good. The place is run by Orthodox Jews so there are now Saturday hours which is rough. On a more personal note, my girlfriend and I came by here at 5:30 on a Sunday afternoon hoping to buy two bagels for dinner. We were dismayed to find that they closed at 3 PM since this meant we would have to buy the dreaded supermarket bagels. Just as we were about to leave someone came to the locked door and told us that they still had bagels if we wanted them. He handed us a dozen bagels and when we went to pay, he insisted we take them for free since they were extras on the day anyway. It's a bagel shop with terrible customer service. I'd rather support local, so I've always gone here to purchase dozens and spreads. Even when slow, they suck at paying attention to simple requests. Might as well say 1 thing at a time and wait for them to prompt you for their next action, otherwise they'll get it wrong and get annoyed when they have to fix it. The last straw was them requesting 10 cents to slice a bagel. I thought it was a joke, but dude was dead serious... I didn't bring in a bagel from elsewhere and ask for a favor, I purchased bagel at a bagel shop and requested that one of them be split so that I could put the spread, which I also bought from the establishment, on the damn bagel. Who the hell charges customers to slice a bagel?? Sick of walking out of this place annoyed over stupid stuff, so definitely wont be coming back. read more

Awesome bagels, awesome prices, but most importantly, awesome service. Its never really hectic in the place, and the main guy working there always is very professional in regards to what they have, what they can do, and any deals or specials. My GF and I only go here to get bagels, the frozen bags are a deal and so good!! Great selection of spreads as well, and a great location. If you're in the area for a quick lunch or snack, or need to stock up on some circular bread products, give this place a go, you won't regret it! I feel too many people are pretentious in the area, and give it a bad wrap. If you know what you want, can speak clearly, and are open to being flexible with the order, they are a big help and always make it a good time. I always look forward to going to Goldburgs Bagels because the bagels are delicious, but I'm sad to say that I am reluctant to return due to the way I was treated by the older man that takes orders today. This place has small, very dense bagels- Deff didn't remind me of any NY bagels I've had in NY, but they were still pretty tasty. The egg and cheese sandwich came by default with munster or provolone (couldn't distinguish which it was, but I suspect provolone) so if you want American like I typically expect on an egg and cheese, make sure you specify. Also as noted before, the place is kosher so don't expect any delicious bacon or sausage because they don't have it on the menu. I'm still on the hunt for a great bagel in the DC and surrounding area- this was towards the top of the list- I like bagels, etc on P street better than this place, they're similar sized, but a little less dense and have a good chew to them. But this is a close second to them over the many other places I've tried. I'm hoping I'll find the giant delicious chewy bagels that NY has made me crave! I'm sure it'll happen one day! read more
