Second time buying posters here and once again half of them I bought have very noticiable printing errors and cuts going through them. Every two inches is the same big white scratch going up the whole thing. This has happened for the second time. Despite trying to grab the less beat up roll I still got bad ones. For $12 a poster I would go else where :( they still have cool stuff though. read more

This place isn't bad and it isn't the best. It's actually a nice way to waste time browsing around Pike Place. Sometimes it can get crowded moving through the store. Little irritating at times. Even in undiscovered territory (that I've never been to anyway), YES, there is geekdom! Wifey and I walking through the Pike Place Market underground, I was able to find my Dorothy - there's no place like home! Yes, I may have said that out loud as well discovering Golden Age Collectables. And yes, the wifey did let out an "Ugh" somewhere along the way. Needless to say the wifey and I were in the middle of a short weekend vacay together, and wow, comics and toys just had to somehow get in the way of killing our precious time! Sorry baby! But sci-fi and nerdiness must make its way into my life like breathing. And banh mi sandwiches. With extra hoisin and jalapeno. Golden Age Collectables is a very pretty store! Quaint, and stocked full of comics, toys, trinkets, random gag gifts, collectables (duh), and more. Love how they have the neon sign outside along with the life size standees to attract folks to their store. It was noticeable from half a mile away! Thank goodness I was able to find this on our trip to Seattle. Eating every 1 and a half hours was making me full. Me being the Walking Dead and Star Wars fan that I am had access to much product. It was like finding candy in a...candy store! Old stuff, new stuff, limited stuff, wacky stuff, it was all there. That vintage comic smell you get from Golden and Silver Age? It was there. Breezy ocean air smell? It was there too. It was like a comic store almost on the beach. Complete with stinky rotting salmon heads too. But in a good way. I looked around for what must have been an hour I left the store with...NOTHING! That is my only minor gripe. Being that Golden Age Collectables is proably the ONLY comic store on this side of Downtown Seatlle (let alone most convenient for all tourists), their markup is pretty high. Like 20% higher than I would usually go. Seeing that I wasn't a regular to the store made me feel a bit uncomfortable to try and haggle with the staff. And I really, really wanted those Star Wars Expanded Universe figures they had in their display case to add to my collection. But oh well, at least I saved some money for more eating! The wifey couldn't escape the retail wrath though, she bought a bunch of gag gifts for her co-workers back home. She actually enjoyed herself at a comic store! For the first time! Although she still can't tell me the difference between Luke and Duke, except that Channing Tatum was also on 'Magic Mike' (but I guess I'll have to give her half a credit on that one). read more

Hard to find - we used Google Maps and still had to ask other businesses within the downstairs area of Pikes Market - but worth it! Comic books, copies of popular television & movie episode scrips (BTVS, the Office, etc.), keychains that look like old-fashioned motel key chains with "Overlook Hotel" or "Bates Motel", life-sized cardboard cutouts of Daryl Dixon and Pennywise, a face-hugger plushy from Alien, playing cards, games and of course, comic books. The store is full, wall-to-ceiling of anything you could need to satisfy your geeky needs. They have scripts, comics, cards, games, collectibles.... I've loved Golden Age Collectable since I first went in the late-80s and it was the only place in the state of Washington selling movie scripts. Along with still having an abundance of screenplays, Golden Age Collectables is also a great place to geek out on Star Wars (as I do) and movie memorabilia and posters. They have a whole aisle with Pop! Vinyl, the biggest collection I've seen in a store. And yes, of course, comics ... a comprehensive collection that both collectors and newbies will love. read more

Go here for all your nerdy needs, whether that's action figures, pops, comics, manga, graphic novels, replicas, board games, and even things for film buffs. I think some of the pops were priced over what I'm used to, but maybe that's just the Seattle market? I did end up purchasing some mystery pops, which were priced lower than competitors. Overall, the shop is clean, organized, and seems to have a good mix of brand new, newish, and older issues, not to mention highly collectible items as well. Larger items are shelved in bookcases that go to the ceiling, really taking advantage of the space in the shop. THE VERDICT: Sometimes when entering comic book store, I feel the contempt of the other patrons or workers, but I was glad I didn't feel that here. Their website boasts that they are the oldest comic book shop in the world (around since 1967), and when I did a bit of digging, this claim seems to be relatively confirmed. My one regret was not having enough time to nerd out at this amazing collectable shop. There was a WHOLE wall dedicated to funkopops, unique boardgames fashioned after popular and occult shows. I only recognized a few of the toys in one far away section, but I think if I wasn't stressed for time, I would have sank hours looking through the comic sections, the manga selections, and looking at the box arts for all of the collectables. The place is stilla comic book shop so this review has to do with the current state of it. They have gotten rid of the back issues since l was last in , wich was about a year ago. They are more main stream comics then they have be before or rather only the popular books are on the shelfs. They are a much bigger tourist nerdy catch all, in my opinion. Use to be comic book fanatic back in the days. Remember going down to the comic book store just about every weekend with my brother or friends. It good times. Go through comic book rows and rows looking for your favorite title (always always been X-men fan). Each week thinking about the new release in the series or just browsing in the store hanging out with other comic book fans. I turn to collecting baseball, football, and basketball cards. So collectables there always been place in my heart growing up and hell still have all my sports cards although none of them are worth much in this day and age. Michael Jordan rookie card only thing worth in the transition of technology and producing higher quality cards in todays market. Anyway....I never knew they had comic book store in Pike Market Place cause am use to walking around the street level the times visited. My friends visited he was telling me always make stop to this store whenever stopped by Pike Market Place. So we were killing time me playing tourist. Why not. I found was really cool shop underground. It not very big but surprisingly found that had decent walk space between rows. Sure they cram few things in the store but like the diversity in the store. The collectable section one thing that stood out was all the POP merchandise. I think never seen that many in one store and just about covers every television series to movie character can find. The comic books have nice amount not sure if have the hottest or current ones. This was first time been in comic book store in years and so out of the game just enjoying walking around being kid again. The action figures they have current ones. Some in glass displays that are assume current and old time classic Star Wars. Also have nice section for MAGIC card players and Pokeman assortment. The selection of collectible this place has is amazing. Original toys from the 80's with boxes, limited edition replicas, hard to find scripts, comics, toys, posters, and just about anything you can think of. I didn't buy anything here but spent a ton of time just ogling the number of classic Star Wars toys they had (even with the old Kenner boxes!) that had me reminiscing of my youth long ago with a huge smile on my face. The prize that I must have spent 20 minutes looking at was a Lucas Arts licensed AT-AT (one of 1,000 made) that made me drool. At $1500 I was staring hard at the AMEX. This place claims to be the oldest comic book store in the Nation. Established in 1971 it's believable. I have to say I was not too impressed. Now understandably, the place really doesn't have a lot of space to work with. But it's got a really old-school feel which for comic book and gaming shops I think is a no-go. The selection of comics are ok-but again, it's a really small space. I didn't find the Humanoids comics I was looking for so I went somewhere else. So most comic geeks love that old-school feel and I'm comic geek and I'm old enough that I was buying comics when they were $.65 but I really detest close quarters comic book shops that just have comic books crammed everywhere. I personally would move my shop to much more spacious place and make it a lot more appealing to everyone-not just comic geeks. Sorry guys. read more

Have been here 2 times during my visits to Seattle. Nice store and they have fun novelty items and collectibles. The first time I went it was a great experience. Second time, not so much. I was looking at the magnets, pop toys, and novelty gum and taking pictures of them to send to my friend so he could pick which he wanted and I noticed one of their employees, an old white man, following me the whole time, assuming I was stealing. So uncomfortable. Told the cashier about it and he already knew who I was talking about. Probably won't be back because it felt so degrading. That older gentleman needs to do better. read more

While you watch fish fly, hundreds of comic books afficianodos, fillm buffs and sci-fi fanatics geeks are satisfying their lust for good art, good pictures and good words. It doesn't have the clubby, cramped feeling of a lot of comic books shops which probably turns some serious collector off. It's just a totally awesome fun store to pick up cups, magnets, bobble heads, figurines, comics etc. It's the mecca of geekdom with odes to so many different genres and franchises. This is such a fun store. It is pretty much nerd and collectible heaven. I love collecting Funko Pop vinyls and this store has a whole wall of them. It is located in the Pike's Place Market. Pike's Place is usually super crowded since it is a big tourist destination. Even though Golden Age Collectables is pretty crowded inside, I have never had to wait in line for a long time nor have I ever received anything but great service from the people who work there. One of my favorite things about this place is that they have a great trading policy when it comes to getting blind bags/ boxes. They always have one out of the box that you can trade with if you get a duplicate or don't like what you got, which is awesome. Not many places offer this and it is really awesome that Golden Age does. I come here every time I am in Seattle and I will continue to each time I visit. read more

What a wonderful place to get your geek on. It's like the hot topic for older people; but A BILLION TIMES cooler. Because, y'know... us older peeps have more refined tastes. Take for instance, the entire volume of Sandman by Neil Gaiman; from start to finish; in addition to the Overture series. A wall full of film scripts. Minecraft memorabilia. Collectable tin lunch boxes. Crates and crates of comic books. Manga. Pins!!!!! Tokidoki vinyl toys. McLovin' and X-Files ID cards. Cardboard cut outs of various pop culture icons. I HAVE to come here if I'm ever at Pike Place Market. HAVE TO. This is my happy place. If you're looking for a Pop Vinyl that you just can't find, a comic that you may have wanted to start reading but just aren't sure, a t-shirt, or keychain or lanyard or figurine of a random character - you have come to the right store!!! They have a little bit of everything - but especially the Pop Vinyl characters. A WHOLE WALL of them. I usually skip the wall when I first walk in - and look around for the new smaller items that they may have. This wall is filled with any character you can think of - even ones that you thought you couldn't find! It takes me at least ten to fifteen minutes to do a first looksie. The workers here are as passionate about these characters and their stories as you are!! If you need help in selecting a new comic to start, a great gift for someone as geeky as you are, or you just want to get their opinion on that movie you just saw - this is the place to go!! There are at least two or three workers always walking around, making sure that you are ok. Just stop one of them to ask your question and you won't be disappointed!! What I like best about this store is that it's clean and bright!! Even on an overcast and rainy day, this is a like a ray of sunshine!! There is a lot of stuff to look at, but you never feel crowded in any of the rows. I usually go to Pike Place with a backpack to help carry my goodies back and even with that packed I don't feel like I'm going to damage anything while looking at all the treasures!! read more

A must see spot for Funko/comic book collectors. This place is fully stocked with the latest Funko pops, comic books and other goodies that you can think of. If you're looking for common and some chase Funko pops, those will be arranged along the wall. If you're looking for higher priced Funko pops those will be located near the register in a glass case. The workers here do a great job of arranging the common Funko pops along the wall and making sure they are in order and grouped by the correct genre, which makes it easy for me when looking and I usually find what I need without asking for assistance. You might have some trouble finding it when you're in the area but ask around and you won't be disappointed once you enter. As a comic shop, this place is alright. They can't charge you higher than cover price for comics and most of the current trade paperbacks on the shelf, but if you plan on going there for "collectibles", be prepared to help them pay that massive rent they must have for such a choice location. I'm a toy collector, and I swear they have toys on their shelf that are *literally* on the shelf at Toys R Us as I type this that retail for 9.99 priced at 27.99!!!!!!!!!! Yes. TWENTY-SEVEN, NINETY NINE. I've never seen such a ridiculous price increase for a retail toy and it's not like I am not aware of stuff that is rare or variant or whatever. Like I said, I am a collector and I pay attention to this stuff and am used to scalpers charging an arm and a leg for "hot" toys...but these prices actually make the true ebay scalpers' prices look like bargains. If you really want to get into whatever collectibles you might consider buying there, just save your money and buy them online. Even with shipping, you'll be coming out on top. Other than that, staff is reasonable but overly paranoid about shoplifters. I mean, I understand that it's a heavily touristed area, but it seems like I can't walk in there (and I am 30 years old, btw...not some skeezy lookin' punk) without immediately having eyes burning through the back of my head. They don't seem interested in helping you, they only seem interested in catching you doing something illegal and charging insane prices. Sadly...it's been like this for YEARS (at least 10...) Don't bother. Go to Zanadu if you just HAVE to get comics downtown. read more

Golden Age Collectables is the comic-loving, collectible obsessed, geek's dreamland buried in the labyrinth of Pike Place Market. If you have a bad sense of direction, don't attempt to come here alone. I never find it. If you don't love crowds (and I mean THICK crowds of people) you may want to find a quiet comic shop elsewhere. If you like to be left alone while you look or get anxious when you feel like you're always in someone's way--I'd suggest maybe not shopping here. Otherwise, this place is badass. It's located within Pike Place, so prepare yourselves for crowds and tourists. As I mentioned before, this isn't the kind of shop where you can quietly peruse issues and have lingering conversations about comics and storylines with the staff. Ain't nobody got time for that here. But man, oh man. If you like collectibles--or Neca--this is your place. I loved the racks and racks of toys and action figures. I ALMOST left with a few, but the line was too long for me to wait. I didn't have the time or space that I'd like to for looking at comics, but from what I saw, the selection is deep for both new and old graphic novels. I would have loved to learn about their subscription or folder programs, if they have them, but again it was just too busy to even try to figure that out. No staffers asked me if we needed help while we were there, but with that crowd, I'm not sure how they could have. I heart Golden Age Collectables. My boyfriend and I can't stop by Pike Place Market without stopping in here. Like everyone has already mentioned, this store carries all the nerdy paraphernalia you could ever want: cardboard cutouts, mugs, movie scripts, bobbleheads, figurines, band aids, key chains, comic books,...and the list goes on... Not only that, they also represent almost anything you could be nerdy about: science, Star Wars, Hello Kitty, Ninja Turtles, DC comics, Marvel comics, and so much more. It's usually packed during peak hours (weeknights and weekends) but you can still find your way around and the staff is always helpful. I wish I were rich. I'd buy the entire store. It's located down stairs in Pike Place Market and by far my favorite place to go whenever I am at Pikes Place. I could stay here and look at comics and all the action figures for hours.
