The Golden Buddha is a staple in the Okolona community for many years. It has been here for as long as I can remember and I live in Okolona since I was five years old so I've always wanted to try this place and I never got around to it. And now unfortunately I wish I still didn't try it to be honest. I ordered the chicken and rice Kom pow style and it was supposed to be spicy with chicken and rice instead I've basically got a plate full of vegetables unfortunately There was hardly any chicken at all it was just a bunch of vegetables not very spicy at all and just did not come with it. My last review was in 2020. Our favorite Chinese take out and went downhill so we've been trying others in the area. I always remembered Golden Buddah having the best egg rolls and crispiest chicken. So to please my teen we tried here. And once again, a huge mistake. First. What did they do to the rice?!? Is this minute rice?? Completely inedible. Got the bok choy pork. It was all carrot and broccoli. Pork tasted old. So we picked through and just ate the broccoli. Also ordered teriyaki chicken. Here's the thing. It was good. It was just a fried skewer of chicken. But where's the sauce? Where the flavor? It was legit a fried plain chick skewer. All 3 meals came with rice. And all rice went in the trash. Daughter did eat the sweet n sour chicken. Although we were missing the pineapples that used to come with it.. If you have eaten at this okolona staple, beware that nothing is the same as it was years ago. And not for the better. My sister and I live this place. Whenever we are in that area together, we eat there. We always get hot and sour soup and egg rolls, but vary our entrees. The soup and egg rolls are great! The egg rolls are very crispy and fresh. The hot and sour soup is both hot and sour! A lot of places mis out on the sour aspect, but Golden Buddha does it perfectly. I have had a variety of entrews there and never had anything bad. Their serving sizes are huge usually. I like their fried rice dishes and lo mein a lot. One of the best features of this place is their prices, they are VERY reasonable. Because the prices are low, they charge for drink refills or crispy noodles for the soup. So, don't be surprised by the up charge. It allows them to keep other costs low. I definitely recommend this place for reasonable and good Chinese. It isn't fancy, just good. read more

Long time local favorite. Family business that has been around for as long as I can remember. Ordered four different meals and some noodles. Everything came out fresh, hot , and correct. 1.Gentleman in front of us spilled his tray of drinks - complete accident. It happened at the counter. The lady behind the counter didn't help him or even make him new drinks. Young family with 2 small kids. 2.Lady comes back in after getting a to go order saying an egg roll was missing - Again same lady from behind the counter Argues with her loudly instead of just getting another damn egg-roll. You lost my business again for a long time over that. 3. Older man in the lobby waiting on his to go order - on his phone and she yells Sir at him several times! Seriously how rude, how embarrassing,how disrespectful! We went because this is what my daughter picked for her 19th birthday meal. Hopefully we won't be back again until after she's 20. read more

We came from Shelby County because of the great experiences at Golden Buddha we had when we lived in the neighborhood. The Chicken in the combination plate was overcooked and tough, the egg roll was overcooked and the rice was just blah! Not going to make that 40 mile trip again. read more

Good at one time, this place is a bust now. The fried rice is white rice with chix broth. All the chix meals are the same. The sauce you are given is a small container to pour on yourself. Went here for the first time ever and I loved it. The people behind the counter were nice and the place looked very clean. The food was amazing as well! If you go here then you really should try their general chicken! That stuff filled me up until the MSG started to kick in but omg was it soooooo good. The people are friendly and personable and not only care about the restaurant they care about the customers. Even after having visiting China several times and living in Shanghai for nearly a year, I found myself still coming back time after time for their comfort-food-style-Chinese. I normally love everything there and have been going for the past 22 years, The last two times I have went I ordered the same thing I always order which is chicken chow mein but recently they sold the restaurant and the new chef insist on putting sugar in the dish... it is the nastiest thing I've ever tasted... why take a perfectly good selling item and screw it up so badly??? Been looking for a good Chinese restaurant close by so we decided to try it. We had chicken chow mein, general Tso's chicken, kung pao and some hot and sour soup. I'm being perfectly honest when I say I have never tasted a worse excuse for Chinese food in my life. All of the dishes were bland ( and I do mean bland ) as though they had little to NO seasonings at all. The chow mein tasted like vegetables and pre-cooked chicken thrown together and cooked in vegetable oil without even a smidge of salt or seasonings. The chicken was tough and dry and flavorless. Whatever the soup was, it certainly wasn't hot and sour. All of the dishes were the same, flavorless. Even the fried rice was flavorless. More like steamed rice colored to look like fried rice. None of us even got half way through it, the bulk went into the garbage where it belonged. I will always gladly pay for good Chinese, but trust me, this ain't it. Stopped by Golden Buddha following a flight delay, as my hotel was in the area. Side note the area is not the best, but the food was great. Ordered Teriyaki chicken which came with a giant plate of rice. The rice was not greasy as other fast food Chinese places tend to be and chicken was perfectly seasoned and grilled. Also had a order or eggrolls and was told that they hand make them in the kitchen, which says a lot about the food quality. Overall I would highly recommend Golden buddha, as a quick place to grab some Chinese food. read more
