A terrible experience all around. Came with my young daughter for a late lunch. Then dining area is dirty with cardboard boxes stacked in one of the booths. The first table we sat at was dirty and had to move. The woman behind the counter was rude and impatient. The food came out quickly on styrofoam plates, but was pretty bad. Everything was bland with an off flavor. Both our entrees had just enough protein to say it was present. My daughter had 2 shrimp and I had just a few small pieces of a chicken-like substance. When we went to pay the bill, I noticed that the amount charged was more than the amount on the menu. I asked the woman behind the counter if they've had a price increase and she acted as if she didn't hear me. When I asked again and louder, she again ignored me. The owner who is an older woman and is often running the front area is very unfriendly to the point of sometimes making you feel unwelcome. This place used to be great. They charge double for the ribs on the bone than any other Chinese restaurant claiming a rib shortage for the last three years. The woman that works there is as nasty as they come. Like she's doing the customer a favor. She started yelling at me because i asked for an extra sauce for my chicken fingers and i wouldnt agree to the .50 charge after I spent $100 on my order. There is virtually no protein in their combination meals. Don't order with $2 or $3 extra chicken or beef because you're going to pay but not get it. I did order from this place several times it was good. But the las 3 times I ordered the food was different and have a different taste. Last night we ordered again and the chicken wings were horrible I don't wanna use the word rotten but honestly they were. And the general tso's chicken also bad. Small but good A small Chinese restaurant located right next to Shaw's on Rt. 1. It has a few booths inside I but suspect most of the business is take out. The food here is a cut above what you would expect from a take out place. The menu isn't vast but what they have they make well. I have been ordering from Golden China for 20 years. It has changed hands I believe but the food has basically stayed the same, which is quite adequate for what we like (not spicy). So I do recommend them, but a caveat: I thought I'd try something new and ordered Lobster Lo Mein. It tasted a little fishy but ok, and then I noticed a remarkable similarity in the shape and size of the little pieces of meat and suspected it's not real lobster. I called them to ask about it, explained I was a long time and valued customer who orders from them a LOT, and to my dismay they lied about it. Further, they insulted my intelligence by asking me repeatedly, Was the meat red and white? (My answer: Yes, but so is crayfish.) And saying, Our lobster meat is all cut up... (no, duh). Only because I pressed on for 7.5 minutes did they admit they use "artificial lobster" which seems to consist of crayfish tails. Then they finally told me that everything on their menu that says "lobster" or "crab" is artificial. I told them I'd appreciate a more honest menu, and also that for goodness sake, we are on the CT shoreline with readily available lobster meat... if they made it with real lobster I'd pay more. So, order away, their shrimp is very good... just stay away from their lobster and crab, unless you are ok with artificial. read more

On point! It's definitely your typical "America" Chinese food in terms of greasy, salty, etc. but they seem to do everything right! Their delivery process was painless and quick; friendly service too. Most importantly the food was good! The veggies were fresh and not overcooked. The lo mein had a full flavor (almost grilled tasting but it definitely worked). All in all the food, service and prices were good. I was very pleased and give it a 4.5 if possible. As far as Chinese take out goes, this place is the best! In a business where most competition offer the same menu Golden China really wins the gold for flavor and quality. If you get a chance to stop by here you have to try the fried rice (pork or vegetable that I have tried) the flavor is amazing and so much better than the bland greasy rice that some places put out. My other favorite dishes here are the Chicken with Walnuts and the Singapore Mei Fun. To a point you would think that Chinese take out is pretty much the same where ever you go but that's not the case. After living in Clinton and frequenting Golden China when the urge for Chinese food arose, I realized that they really do make these dishes taste outstanding. I am convinced all these Chinese take-out joints buy the same ingredients from the same supplier. That's because whenever I get my usual pork lo mein and eggroll combo, they all taste the same, no matter where I get them from. I can't tell the difference from one place to another. There must be one main supplier, similar to Sysco, for all Chinese food. The inside had a bunch of booths and a sad looking salad bar sitting on the side. The salad bar was empty and I pondered whether they really use it. If they do, I wouldn't use it. I have a phobia about Chinese food joints and germs. I've heard too many stories and this place doesn't exactly look like it wins the "Mr. Clean" award. Case in point; I had to step over a spilled liquid substance on the floor (I think it was orange soda) to get to the counter. It was in plain sight and it was really weird that nobody had cleaned it up when I returned to pick up my food. Their location is kind of unusual because they're diagonally across from the more popular Taste of China restaurant. If I could give zero stars I would. WORST CHINESE FOOD IVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. ORDERED MEAT STEAMED DUMPLINGS. THEY GAVE ME VEGETABLE, then ordered crab ragoons they put no crab or cream cheese. I called to complain and the woman was extremely rude. I could not understand her and she kept telling me I was wrong. Horrible service took 2 hours to deliver and everything was wrong. I work at adidas and we are never ordering from them again. The Great Wall is 5000x better. When they took more than a half hour they gave us a free liter soda. At one time it was actually pretty good for a greasy Chinese spot, you knew what to expect, and it was a tasty treat and they delivered promptly, ordered last night and really disappointed, as the Tso's chicken was chewy and really no chicken to be found, we threw it away... The teriyaki beef sticks tasted funny, the only thing that was pretty good were the garlic sauce green beans... It is really a shame because the young ladies working there are so pleasant and nice, but unfortunately this was our last time ordering from them... We tried to order delivery two nights in a row. The first night it was an hour wait so we canceled. The next night we called way ahead...an hour and half before we wanted dinner. Not only did it not get to us in that 90 minutes but we called after 2 hours and they were just getting to it. We waited over two hours and 30 min and it was still not here.. We called again at the 2hr45min mark and was told they were just getting to it. Same thing they said to us at the 2 hour mark. At that point we demanded our order free and we picked it up. Got to the restaurant 15 min later and still had to wait 5 more minutes. So 3 hours for an order of fried rice and lo main. The most ridiculous service we've ever had. Food was delicious so we will return for pick up but never delivery. Oh and BTW, they told me that pick up orders push delivery orders to the side and so they kept getting pick up orders and didn't fill the delivery orders!!! Don't advertise as a delivery restaurant. Some of the best take-out Chinese I've ever eaten. Their menu is pretty much the same as any other take-out place, but their food is a hundred times better. They don't give you 75% rice and 25% "real food" in their combination platters like most places do..it's more like 25% rice and 75% real food. The standard by which we all judge Chinese food. General Tsos chicken is very good. Boneless spare ribs are more meaty than fat. Mei fun is highly recommended as well Lo mein is delicious and try the Schezuen dumplings, expensive and very tasty read more

New to town. Wanted Chinese food. Called and was greeted by the rudest women. She was yelling at me. I couldn't believe it. They were the only place open to deliver. I asked for extra soy and duck sauce packets. She told me they were a dollar each. I couldn't believe it. I even put phone on speaker so my husband could hear her yelling. After a while waiting for delivery in received a call from the same rude woman...yelling at me to go outside to pick up my food from the drivers car. I said no. They did deliver and forgot my fried noofled that they charged me for. The food was so bad my husband threw it in garbage. We asked for the noodles..they said next time..lol ummm. Nope! We asked for refund..the only reason we got it was they put in wrong card number. I'll never order again. Horrible customer service...not good food.
