Solid choice for Chinese food takeout in the area. Everything has been very good so far. The lady on the phone did make a mistake by telling me the chicken wings came with 8, however. I told her my menu at home says 4. She said the menu changed, and now you have to buy 8. When I went to pick up my order though, it was in fact 4 and the menu was exactly the same. I asked the guy behind the counter to let the lady know. Chicken is boiled in the dishes which is a little weird, but still very good. Pork Fried Rice and chicken Mei Fun are delicious. Rating this for what it is, a fast Chinese takeout restaurant. Throughout my life I've lived in many different towns all with different spins on popular Chinese takeout. Some places I went back to, others I didn't. I was shocked at how good China Royale was and at least on par if not better than Chinese food establishments in what you may call the fancier towns I've lived. My favs are the Wontons in spicy sauce and the chicken with vegetables. Great spice, flavor and not too salty. Ive also tried different tofu dishes. All great. The people I deal with are always very kind. The portion for the price cannot be beat. Keep in mind this is a takeout restaurant, I'm not sure you can even eat inside. However, it's always been very clean and well organized. Next time you're hungover or eating your emotions, give China Royale a call! read more

Not your typical Chinese takeout! They take pride in the preparation and presentation. Sesame chicken was delicious and the baby eggplant with pork was served in a well seasoned sauce was outstanding. The staff is friendly and efficient and the prices are a value. Highly recommended. read more

I've been a regular here for years, and all thru the pandemic. I always had friendly service, good food, and at a fair price. Today I came to find they restructured their menu, making what I wanted to eat unavailable and insanely costly. What's worse, they were incredibly rude both on the phone and in-person. It cost $50 for two people to buy Chinese take-out for lunch, and not even be able to get what they wanted! Absolutely insane. I predict this new business model will be the end of them. Seems like such a bad idea when there's so much going on with the construction in that area and the businesses already suffering so much. Today was my last visit. read more

This is one of several Chinese restaurants that I visit in my area where I live. I haven't been here in quite a while, but due to the closing of many Chinese restaurants due to the COVID pandemic, I was lead back here. This location had been closed for several weeks, and now I understand why. The owners were busy enclosing the counter area to minimize contact with customers. They did a really nice job- one of the better ones I've seen during this time. They have separate pass throughs for payment and food. Separate containers for cleaned and dirty pens. Very neat and efficient! The food was better than I remembered. Everything seemed fresh and was very tasty. The egg rolls were crisp, not soggy- and the General Tso's chicken was excellent. Excellent chicken broccoli, it's have them add carrots. Wonton soup excellent, never mushy. Beef lomein is always have them prepare spicy, tender beef, great noodles. Sautéed string beans are great but I do prefer them well done. There are a few items here I don't care for but it's a matter of taste preferences more than anything else. It's strictly takeout although they do have 2 or 3 tables in the rare likelihood you'd want to eat in. read more

Really clean establishment. Neat and tidy area to help yourself to condiments and fortune cookies. Excellent pork off the bone with sweet sour glaze. We liked the amount of "heat" in the Schezwan food we ordered. Just enough. Not a ton of broccoli with every dish as a filler. We had leftovers for $42. For another night. Can't wait to try more dishes. We're so fortunate to have China Royale so nearby. read more

Very disappointed ... the woman who took the order ... repeated it back to me 3 times ... got there to pick up the food ... she would not let me check the bag it felt to light to be my order ... it has gone down hill ... she gave me only 3 of the 5 things that we ordered... the woman was rude to the people in front of me and rude to the person behind me ... she yelled at me and said we are "TO BUSY" to check orders ... next time we will make the drive to middletown where they get your order correct and the staff that work there are nice to customers! read more

The place itself doesn't look that nice. Place atmosphere isn't really good. I wouldn't eat in. Perfect for take-out though! To be honest. The food was amazing. The rice itself was so yummy. Soups are okay. Definitely too oily. I was also not really a friend of the deep fried noodles. But I really do like the vegan and vegetarian food selection. read more

I had many many dishes at this restaurant and I loved the majority of them. I have to say that my favorite dish is the beef and broccoli combination platter cuz it's good. The staff are pretty nice, Food is served quick. The only thing I would complain about is the design of the interior. Maybe in need of new wall painting or wallpaper?? I also read another person's review complaining that the chow mein wasn't noodles and how it's just cabbage and stuff, but I clearly see it written on the paper menu and the online one, that "Chow mein is a vegetable dish, Not to be confused with a noodle dish." I ate here tonight for the first time, but was pretty impressed for a hole-in-the-wall Chinese take out joint. I simply ordered a General Tso's combination plate, but everything was super fresh. I was even impressed with the moistness of the pork fried rice. I stopped in around 8:30 on a Tuesday night, so that impressed me as well. I love this place more because the people who own it are so pleasant. They are working hard to make a living. The food is decent. They have do not have proper heat and their landlord is not about to help them with getting it. Seeing them cook in winter coats breaks my heart. In so glad to have this restaurant in town because living so far from a larger city there aren't many options and we haven't really enjoyed some of the other restaurants around. They make the food fast and the portions are large. I really like the Singapore mei fun (without veggies) and their crab Rangoon are good without being to greasy. The reason that I only gave them 3 stars is that last month we ordered chicken chow mein which should be stir fry noodles with chicken. What we got was chicken and cabbage with no noodles. Thinking we just pronounced the dish wrong we picked out the chicken and ate that alone. Tonight we ordered pork chow mein and got a container of pork and cabbage. Calling the restaurant we were told that chow mein is not a noodle dish, it's a vegetable dish. A quick google search confirmed that "chow mein" means "stir fry noodles". I'm not sure why they are selling Chinese chop suey under a fake name. We were told to order lo mein if we want noodles there but lo mein is a different preparation of the noodles that we wanted in chow mein. We aren't big on cooked vegetables so we'll pick around and just eat the pork. :( at least they remembered the fortune cookies this time. read more

My wife an I have eaten here many times in the past and it was good. Not great Chinese food, but good for a small town restaurant. On valentines day we decided to just get some Chinese food and stay in. What a disappointment! We called in an order and was told 10 minutes. We went to the restaurant and waited in line for 15 minutes before we picked up our order that I discovered was sitting on the counter since we arrived. The woman at the counter was taking order after order over the phone while the line to pick up went out the door. Not very professional. We got the food home, found that the order was wrong, egg roll instead of spring roll. The egg role was terrible. The chicken teriyaki was overcooked and dried out. We ended up tossing most of the meal in the trash? What happened? The staff appeared to be new and not anywhere as good as the old staff, especially the woman at the counter. New owners? Fired the old staff? We will now be going to the new Chinese restaurant in Colchester. read more
