I have always driven by this place and didn't see many cars and that is my que to not stop. If there aren't many cars, there aren't many customers and that's a signal of a not so good place to eat. However, I discovered this place is TO-GO only. That changes things. No wonder there aren't a lot of cars there Yelp reviews were pretty good so i gave it a try. I must say I am impressed. I have eaten there three times in 10 days. It's easy. It's fast and it's good. Service is always friendly and helpful. The ambience is what you'd expect from a To-Go place. And the food is very good. Was there just yesterday and there was a steady stream of cars in and out; people who called their order in or ordered online. Me? I'm still new to this place so I enjoy walking in and deciding what I want. You can see into the kitchen a bit and see how fast and efficient they are working on different orders. I ordered again here for a family of four and food was great. It's always fast and ready when I get there. At the counter was treated very nicely and appreciated me stopping in. I want everyone to remember that I feed my family two meals out of our order that was 100 dollars and if I go to a fast food place and order meals and did two meals for each would be about 120 and fast food is not great. I'm confused about the reviews. Seems like they either love it or hate it. I've had nothing but good experiences here. This is a family run business. They had a huge loss of a family member a few years back and that might have affected them. I don't go here on a regular basis, but only have had good food and service. This is mainly for takeout, in my view. They don't have much seating and I think the community is fine with that. Great service. Good Chinese foood aimed at midwestern taste. The best Chinese food in the area.

In a small town, you wouldn't think you'd find a gem like this restaurant. Good Chinese food is hard to come by anymore! I absolutely find it more appealing to go to Chinese dine-in or takeout rather than buffets, (unless they do it right). The food you get from this place is so fresh and delicious! My husband and I stopped by here on our way back to town (La Crosse). I got the Sesame Chicken with white sticky rice and he got the Peppered Chicken, which he thought he was getting black peppered chicken. He was surprised when it came out to be chicken with green bell peppers and onions. It had some type of sauce marinating it all if the food in, maybe an oyster and soy? At any rate, he very much enjoyed it even though it wasn't what he expected he was getting. We also go an order of the Crispy Cheese Wontons which were so good!!! I would recommend adding some spring onions to them for extra flavor!! You can't go wrong with a great Chinese Restaurant like this! They were so nice to let us dine-in even though we didn't notice the sign that said takeout only and it was because of being short staffed, which I totally get! New to the area and gave this restaurant a shot. We ordered take out. They don't have delivery, likely because of these COVID times. We ordered beef lo mein, orange chicken, pork fried rice through their online site. Food was ready in 20 minutes as indicated. Everything tasted great for an American Chinese restaurant! Portions are large and we are excited for leftovers. I have a bit of a bias because I have spent time living in China and eating delicious Chinese food there, and that's the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. It's only the first week for this new restaurant in West Salem. I work in town so I know there is an absence of variety; no doubt this place is would do well even if the food was terrible. I ordered the Garlic Sauce Shrimp. It was spicy but not overly so. Veggies aren't over-cooked and have a nice crunch. I asked for white rice but got fried, otherwise I'd give them 5 stars. I feel blessed to have lo mein within walking distance. Seriously though-- the food is great and the prices are reasonable. A great place to treat yourself if you like Chinese food. Recommendations: Sesame chicken, beef and broccoli, any of the lo mein (I'm partial to Shrimp), fried rice, anything vegetable based, and the wonton soup. Underwhelming atmosphere. The orange chicken was like rocks covered a thick orange sauce. Chicken pieces were heavily coated with batter and fried too long. The white rice was a congealed lump that had an off taste I can't define. read more

Even when I call in on a late night where most people would be run down, the employees at Golden China are happy to give their service. And don't even get me started on the food. The Orange Chicken has not been as good as it used to be .The last couple times that we have been there the chicken is over cooked and the sauce doesn't have the good orange flavor that it used to. We visited Golden China during a recent trip to LaCrosse. We ordered beef fried rice, beef lo mien noodles and pork egg rolls. Beef fried rice was dry, under cooked, lacked the tradition egg and had a strong aftertaste of either msg or meat tenderizer. Very little peas, carrots and no onion. Very bland. My beef lo mien noodles were over cooked, almost mushy and had the same after taste of msg or tenderizer. No veggies others than very little onion. The eggs rolls were the highlight, but they too were mediocre. Very little cabbage and the pork had a strange flavor and texture. We carried out but the dining area looked clean with ample seating. Needless to say, one visit was enough to satisfy my curiosity, still looking for that better than average Chinese restaurant in the area.... read more

Excellent food! I had the fried tofu with mixed veggies and white rice and I loved it! It was a lot of food but I saved some for leftovers. It was a little cold in the restaurant but we sat by the heater, also the food was on paper plates and with plastic forks if that turns you off at all, but other than that it was awesome food and good decor! read more
