    Peppery Chicken
    Anne M.

I recently stopped by for takeout & ordered the Salty crispy fish & Peppery Chicken. (It's definitely worth it to check out the Chef's Specialties- they are EXCELLENT! I had the beef with ginger scallions it was DELISH - tons of FLAVOR!) The Peppery Chicken is wok fried dried chilis mixed with diced chicken. It's a dry dish so no real sauce but the chicken is tossed with spicy chili flavor & it's is excellent & surprisingly not overly spicy - it's more a nice medium spice! The salted crispy fish is a fresh mild flavored pieces of white fish tossed in a very light breading wok fried with onions & jalapeños & scallions! Also DELISH! Neither are heavy dishes too which is nice!

We stopped in while we were away on vacation from CT . We came in late and literally cannot say enough about how kind and welcoming Lily was to us. Just a great attitude and went above and beyond and the food was great!

We got to chat with the owner Ping very nice gentleman originally from Hong Kong. He came to check on us to make sure everything is good that we like the food. Because it's late there's only one chef in the kitchen, the food still come out fast and excellent quality. Very good service, our server is very busy cleaning up the restaurant while still refill our water and tea and comes over to clean our table. Very polite people here. This is the best Cantonese dinner restaurants in East Coast, forget about going to flushing ny or Brooklyn if you want authentic good Cantonese food, get the real one here. Reminds me of Hong Kong Chow fun is fresh homemade, i've never had better one!! We ordered beef chow fun. Beef with bitter melon so flavorful tender beef. Steam fish fillets so yummy why something so simple so good!! 京都骨 pork chop very light batter sauce not over sweet like those in flushing/Brooklyn, no red coloring added. To die for!! I can't wait to try dim sum here.

I could literally eat my body weight in these! Pro tip: dip them in the spicy Chinese mustard & then into the duck sauce - sweet, heat, crunch... perfection! Just be warned, it is very easy to fill up on these before your meal even arrives! From the dim sum menu, we ordered the deep fried taro dumplings, steamed shrimp dumplings & our favorite, stir-fried Chinese broccoli with garlic. I wish we had more people so we could order more dim sum items to share! From the regular menu, hubby ordered the lunch combo #14: jumbo shrimp with vegetables, golden fingers, fried rice & egg roll. He loved it & said he would definitely order it again. Golden Palace is an easy add-on if you are at Mohegan Sun! Bonus: dim sum is available daily, which is always a win in my book. To the food...everything was excellent! Yo Po noodles stole the show, the sauce is like nothing I've ever had. Downright delicious! 2nd for us were the Chicken Jin Jin's. Probably 2 orders next time. The wait is fun, there are lots of meme type signs to read, a stream of beautiful landscapes & photos of folks enjoying food on the TV, and always great music playing. Everything was delicious and flavorful as always. We are so lucky to have this gem of a restaurant right in town.

1 Star -- The Worst Chinese Food in Amherst (and That's Saying Something!)…read more I ordered the "All Day Combo" General Tso's Chicken with Vegetable Fried Rice for lunch -- and wow, I wish I hadn't. The portion was pathetic: maybe five tablespoons of pre-cooked fried rice and five tiny, shriveled pieces of chicken (smaller than nuggets!) that were clearly reheated leftovers. The chicken was tough, dry, and chewy -- like biting into old rubber. And the price? $12.70 for what? A sad excuse for a meal. Absolutely no value, no freshness, and no effort whatsoever. This was hands-down the worst Chinese food I've ever had in Amherst -- and possibly anywhere. Located on College Street, this place needs to do some serious soul-searching about what they're serving people. If you value your money (and your taste buds), stay far, far away. This wasn't lunch -- it was a culinary insult in a takeout box. Save yourself the disappointment. Just don't.

The mapo tofu and sweet and sour pork were lunch specials, under 12 dollars each! The calamari was much pricier in comparison, over 20 dollars by itself. The food was packed into each of the containers as well, which allowed us to eat until we were stuffed while still having so much food leftover.

So much better than flushing, Manhattan or Brooklyn dim sum restaurants, can't compare. What a gem! The last time i have this quality of dim sum was in Toronto over 20 years ago. I drove past it the first time, but the exterior is intriguing, with waterfalls and small ponds with koi fish out front that caught my attention on the second pass. The interior is large and classically decorated, the kind of dining room that was built to handle volume without feeling like a cafeteria. I noticed the koi fish out front have a quarter machine nearby that dispenses food, a small detail that tends to land well if you are visiting with kids. The overall setup is comfortable and well maintained, and the space gave the restaurant a presence that most Chinese restaurants in the area do not match. The dim sum is the main draw, and it is served until 3pm, so timing my visit accordingly was important. I ordered the har gow and shumai, both well executed and holding up against what I have found at comparable restaurants in Boston or New York. The chili oil is good and worth using liberally. The shrimp wonton noodle soup was a standout and worth ordering on its own. For those coming outside dim sum hours, the full menu covers a solid range of Cantonese dishes. I also tried the fried rice, salt and pepper squid, and chow fun, all of which performed well. The portions throughout were generous enough that ordering with a group and sharing made the most sense. On quieter days, the food quality is noticeably more consistent, which I experienced during my visit. For good dim sum in Connecticut and a Cantonese dining room that takes the food seriously, Oriental Bar and Grill is worth the effort of finding.

Sidewalks were torn up but the place is hard to find with lack of signage. We were able to get seated right away, and looked through their digital menu. We got a smattering of dishes, wontons and dumplings, a sandwich and a ramen. Food came out in a reasonable wait time. We took pics and dug in. The 7 flavor dumpling was the star of the show. Light and thin dumpling wrapper, savory sweet sauce, plenty of filling. The pork dumplings were good, but the wrapper was thicker and denser. The twice cooked pork sandwich was pretty tasty, the pork needed to be more present compared to the veggies, but appreciated the crisp of the bread. The ramen had a good amount of braised beef and noodles. The broth needed a little doctoring to coax out some of the more savory notes. Broth needed more aggressive seasoning though. The price was not too bad for the area. It's kind of like dim sum, where you get a small plate for the price but it's all shareable and the flavors are good. It's not very well lit, gave the place a very dark air about it. But as a restaurant, it's pretty good. There's a lot of great places in that area, and this one's a good option if you're looking for small plates.

The spicy beef ramen was really good, but the broth was oily and too thin for our liking. We added some soy and asked for some hoisin - which made a big difference. Overall, We will definitely be back and try more menu items.

We walked into a small, casual dining room that feels reminiscent of the neighborhood cafés you would find in Hong Kong, with a simple, unpretentious setup that keeps the attention on the food. The space is compact and functional, the kind of place where the sizzle of clay pots arriving at tables fills the room and the aroma of soy and charred rice hangs in the air. It is not a place for lingering, especially during busy hours, but the focus stays on delivering authentic Cantonese flavors in a setting that feels true to its roots. The clay pot rice is the main reason to visit. Each pot arrives at the table still sizzling, with the rice developing the signature crispy layer along the bottom while staying fluffy on top. The meats absorb the sauce as the rice finishes cooking, creating a rich and comforting dish with plenty of texture. One of the most satisfying parts of the meal is scraping up the crispy rice from the bottom of the pot, which adds extra flavor and crunch to every bite. We ordered the clay pot rice with Chinese sausage and chicken, and the combination of the savory meats, the soy-based sauce, and the slightly charred rice came together in a way that felt both simple and deeply satisfying. The black pepper beef noodles are also worth ordering, offering a classic Hong Kong-style dish with tender beef and a savory black pepper sauce that pairs well with the restaurant's other specialties. The menu has a good variety beyond the clay pots, including soups, casseroles, noodle dishes, and other Cantonese comfort foods. It feels like the type of restaurant where you could return multiple times and still have plenty of different dishes to try. The portions are generous, making the meals filling without being overly expensive for the quality. The restaurant itself is fairly small, so seating can become limited during peak lunch and dinner hours. It is not the place to linger for a long meal, especially when there is a wait, but the food comes out hot and fresh, making the experience feel efficient. If you are planning to visit during a busy time, it is worth expecting a short wait for a table. Clay Pot Cafe is one of the strongest spots in Boston for authentic Cantonese clay pot rice. The sizzling rice, flavorful toppings, and traditional Hong Kong-style menu make it stand out from many other Chinese restaurants in the area, offering a meal that feels both comforting and distinct, and a destination for anyone who wants to experience properly made clay pot rice in an unpretentious setting.
