Still take out only. My wife got the house fried rice was very bland. I got sweet and sour chicken combo with fried rice and spring roll. They give you a small 2 ounce cup of watered down s&s sauce to pour on chicken that had no taste. No duck sauce and large container of some type of red catchup tasting sauce. It came with your choice of soup. I choose the hot spicy one. Couldn't figure out what was in it my wife tried it and was terrible. Do NOT order SUSHI at this restaurant. Five of us got so sick and one had to go the the ER. When I called and asked to talk to the manager of the restaurant, there was laughing in the background and they were barely apologetic. They responded in disbelief and claimed that they had served more sushi and had not gotten any calls. A doctor at the ER confirmed the food poisoning. I don't eat here often only when I am in the general area and decide on dining Chinese. In the past I would have given them three stars but there has been a noticeable difference the last few times I have eaten there. It is typical Fujian style cooking which I enjoy, their Hot and Sour is excellent, although, it is not the authentic Sichaun version, no matter, it is more that acceptable and better than most I have had. Their other dishes including sushi are well above average in quality, the service is excellent and very friendly, I can recommend this restaurant without hesitation. read more

If I were rating on appearances only, I'd only give 1 star! From the old sign still hanging outside giving the impression of a closed business to the paint-chipped walls inside, this restaurant doesn't look very inviting. However., we're still hunting for decent Chinese food in South County and this place has decent yelp reviews. Our waitress was very nice and helpful in explaining that there was no brown rice (disappointing in 2019) but the fried rice was good. The three of us ordered steamed dumplings, double sautéed pork and Hunan chicken. When the dishes arrived we were pleased with their appearance. The ingredients looked fresh and there was a nice amount. Unfortunately, the dumplings were much too doughy and not very flavorful. They're much better at The Golden Chopstix down the street. However, the Pork dish was very good. We will probably ask for it a little spicier next time but the flavors were good. The Hunan chicken wasn't as good but still not too bad. We'd also ask for more heat. Aside from the run down surroundings, the food was certainly good enough and the service friendly enough to entice us back! read more

Speaking frankly, I wasn't coming into my first China Pavillon with high expectations. When I think Rhode Island, I don't necessarily associate it with strong ethnic cuisine. That said, I've had two meals here so far, and they've both been out of this world successes. I came here with my husband on Christmas for sushi, and we had some of the yummiest rolls and a seaweed salad that would rival the sushi restaurants of NYC. My second experience was with their salmon teriyaki, which my husband ordered for me so that I'd have dinner after my train trip from NY. The salmon was perfect, the sauce was sweet and savory, and the rice was comforting. A+ experience both times. read more

So they say you don't know a good thing until it's gone. Well, China Pavilion is a quintessential example. When I lived in Westerly, this was our go-to Chinese food delivery place. Decently priced, always hot food and its way fresher than most of the other chinese food places in the town. But I mean I totally took it for granted. I always kind of placed it under the rank of "sub-par americanized chinese food." Now I live in Brighton, MA and it is struggle city in the chinese food department. All of the chinese food places look like the sites of crime scenes and the food is greasy and overpriced. Never have I missed a solid Chinese food place more than China Pavilion. My personal favorites are the chicken and broccoli and the boneless spare ribs. I have tried and tried and failed miserably with finding boneless spareribs that don't make me hate myself after I eat them in Brighton. Same with Chicken and Broccoli. I swear I can taste the MSG. Not with this place. All of the food is fresh the day of and the day after. I'm not a Sushi fan so I can't really speak on that, but if you live near by this place, enjoy it while you have it because the grass is not greener on the other side. read more

This place is OK for Chinese and Japanese cuisine without MSG. The fried rice is just OK as is everything else. The do have Saki hot and cold which is a major plus. I really like their Moo Shi, and my kids love their chicken fingers. I 've tried a few different things off of their menu and I probably would try them again, aside from what is mentioned above. I usually go here for the Japanese food. I'll either get a bento lunch box or just dive right in for the sushi. Prices aren't bad unless you start ordering the specialty rolls which are $10 and up. The service here isn't that great. They don't come around often and when you leave you're lucky if you get a "thank you. Come again" good thing I'm here for the food not service. read more

I would give zero stars if allowed. Called in an order for the 1st time and was hopeful for good quality Chinese food since the Chinese food in Westerly honestly is bottom of the barrel. I gave special instructions in regards to the General Tso's chicken. I simply asked that if the dish is fatty, please remove it from the order. I did the same for the pork fried rice. I arrive to pick up my order just before 7 and there was not a customer in the restaurant. Slightly surprising and a bad sign. Nice boy behind the counter. Told me that they have been there for 5 or 6 years. Went home and opened the bag. Everyone made a dish and then the complaints started coming. The General Tso's chicken was 95% fat. It was like they used scraps for this dish. So disgusting and chewy. No fat in the pork fried rice but the rice was mushy. Very weird. Tasted old. The Crab rangoon was a previously frozen item that must have been purchased in a bj's or restaurant depot. It just tasted like horrible junk. The Chicken fingers were not fatty but barely cooked enough. A little tough which is a sign that they should have been cooked for a little while longer. I called the restaurant. Told them right off the bat that I am not looking for my $40 back. I just want to let them know of our experience. After listening to the woman make several excuses and try to talk me into believing that the fat that we were chewing on was actually the flour used to dredge the chicken I interrupted the woman and explained that we know the difference between flour and fat. I explained about the rice being mushy, the Crab rangoon tasting like a previously frozen item not made on location and the other issues we had. Her response was "Sorry if you don't like it but that is the way we do it" She did offer me my money back but I explained again that I didn't want it. To me.. This was another lesson learned. Massive disappointment. If you are looking for GOOD quality Chinese food in the town of Westerly RI, my advice is to leave town because it simply is not possible. There are other Chinese restaurants in Westerly RI and none of them are quite as bad as New China Pavilion but believe me, none of them deserve our money. Ordered food (via delivery) for dinner tonight and it was not good at all. Delivery came very quickly - as if it left as soon as I called. That worried me that it may have not been freshly prepared... and my concern was justified. Everything was so salty, nothing had actual good flavor and overall seemed stale/old. General Tso was fatty and mushy; chicken fingers soft; fried rice bland; broccoli in garlic sauce was OK but the string beans were not crisp. Overall, very disappointed :-( and I'm not extremely picky about my 'American' Chinese food... Unfortunately, we threw most of it away. read more

I love this place. I wouldn't be surprised if it was on Guy Fierie's show. Their lunch and dinner specials give you a lot of food for great prices. Not even a one star. I'm only being forced into giving the once star. I live here in Westerly. We have been coming to New China Pavilion for years. We order from them at least once a week. Each time the food has been lacking...in flavor and quality. This time...which is going to be my last time ordering from them...the Beef Teriyaki was the worst ever. 5 stars for the food and the waitress. 5 friends enjoyed dinner at the China Pavilion last night. Everything looked and tasted great. Special recommendation: Chimishi (not sure of the spelling), a raw fish sampler with tuna, salmon, white fishes, ... and delicious seasoned rice. I can't imagine the fish being fresher or more distinctly and delicately flavorful. Presentation was a delight. Thank you China Pavilion, for a wonderful evening. Bonus: There were no corn products in any of the food I sampled (this body lets me know when there is). Lack of corn products suggests that the food is made on-site from whole ingredients. read more

This place used to be great for delivery. Fresh food, delivered quickly. In the last six months, they have been slipping. Forgotten items, less protein in the dishes, lower quality cuts. The girl who works there, who is in her late teens/early 20s and claims she is the manager/owner, often reacts with annoyance if you ask them to bring the forgotten items you paid for and were planning to eat, like its a big inconvenience. Not once or twice forgotten items, but like 5 times already. Been trying to overlook the missed cues and attitude because the food was pretty good, and the drivers are totally cool and professional. Last week the Lemon chicken which used to be succulent breast meat is now dry thigh meat which tasted like it was precooked and had been sitting around. Yesterday they forgot an order of rice (kind of important in a Chinese restaurant) and didn't want to bring it instead offered a credit for "next time". Today, got an edamame which was rotten. Not frozen and just chalky which can happen, but turned/gone bad and should never have been served. I tried to call to get it taken off the bill, and the girl first refused and then when I reminded her we order like 2-3 times per week, reluctantly said she would give a credit for "next time", not take it off the bill. Very curt and annoyed attitude, and certainly no apology. At that point I'd kind of had it with her attitude so I told her I would like to give them a chance but they need to stop making mistakes and give us good stuff, and she had a decision to make which was more important, my future business or one edamame refund. At that point, she called me an "asshole" and said she wasn't going to give me the credit and hung up on me. This has all the hallmarks, given her age, of parents that worked their asses off to start a great restaurant and pass it to their kids, and the spoiled kids run it into the ground. I'm speculating on this last point, but unless this girl won the lotto it is unlikely she built two restaurants at her age with her attitude. Sadly, I was quite fond of this restaurant, but calling a customer an asshole for wanting a refund on an item that should never have been served and for actually trying to give them a chance to fix stuff moving forward is a deal breaker. Hopefully the parents will read this and teach their daughter some manners and basic hospitality skills.
