Definitely an authentic 5 star Chinese dining experience so be sure to order off the Chinese menu, the waitress will be very helpful in explaining all the dishes. If you are a lover of very good authentic Chinese food and wish to experience an alternative to the Chinese American version this place should be very high on your list. They also have the typical Americanized Chinese menu as well and I suspect you'll find it's far better than anything you have previously had, there is some very serious talent in that kitchen...this place is one of Westerly RI's hidden restaurant gems!!! read more

This is my go-to dim sum place. It's in a decent location with plenty of parking. They have three menus: Chinese, dim sum, and the second special Chinese menu. If you get the second menu (have to ask) it's all authentic Chinese food. I studied abroad in China in college, and it's the closest I've seen to the food I had there. I generally go here for dim sum only, though friend's I've been with have gotten Chinese dishes (General Tso's, beef with peapods), and they're all decent. The prices are reasonable, and they have authentic dishes like turnips with tripe. They get excited if you order in Cantonese, too. My staples are the jian dui (sesame ball filled with red bean paste), char siu bao (doughy ball with meat filling), mala dofu (fried homestyle tofu), wu gok (taro root dumpling), fu pei ha gun (fried shrimp), and siu mai (pork in wonton wrapper). They also have bubble tea, with a bunch of different flavors, which is one of my favorites. I get Taro, but they have honeydew, coconut, mango, lychee... Pop on over to the Chinese market next door to stock up on goodies when you're done eating! read more

After much thought I've decided to give this one 5-stars. I was originally at a 4 because this is not the best chinese ever however it IS on par with the best this area has to offer. I figure it's only fair to rank it among it's peers seeing how most restaurants would pale in comparison if ranked globally. The way I see it is if someone is in this area and they want Chinese then I do believe, in my opinion, that this is the best place to go. So..go! Went back to further explore the Dim Sum Menu. Here are some impressions: Fried Crispy Shrimp Roll: Shrimp ground to a purée, seasoned and wrapped in a delicate Filo like dough and then deep fried. Nice dish, the shrimp quite al dente made this way. Served with a plain mayonnaise which I would have like to seen tweaked up a bit but other than that, an enjoyable snack. Pan Fried Leek and Shrimp Cake. Tasty bits of shrimp and chopped leeks in a round dumpling pan fried. Very tasty variation on dumplings and served with a nice dipping sauce. Steamed Red Bean Paste Bun: I have always passed on these and now regret having done so. The combination of the thick, sweet and almost meaty red bean paste and the soft pillowy bun was the surprise of the evening. Could easily see having these in the morning or as a afternoon snack with tea. Steamed Cilantro Pork Dumpling: Dumplings with a nice flavor of cilantro for those of us who love that herb. It is also interesting to note that they make their dumplings with rice dough, not the usual wheat flour. This explains why several reviewers complained of the dumplings and wontons being 'mushy' or 'gelatinous'. I guess those folks are unfamiliar with the more translucent rice variety of dumplings. Anyway, these were very good. Steamed Spare Ribs: These are far away from what we might think of as spare ribs in this country and I can say with some assurity that the vast majority of folks would return these in disgust. These are fatty, steamed rib bits with lots of little bones and no sauce other than the natural juices of the meat topped with a few slices of chilis and fermented beans. Unctuous, gelatinous, and pale, they certainly won't appeal to to the mainstream. On the other hand if you are one of those gourmet types who love exotic bits of the animal, go for it. I enjoyed them, but maybe just this once. We also had the stir fried snow pea tips which are always excellent if they have them and quite a healthy addition to any Chinese meal as well as the vegetables with egg noodles dish off the Chinese Menu. All in all a very exotic meal for this part of the world and greatly appreciated by those of us tired of the same old sweet gingery sauce covering everything at most Chinese places. Once again, highly reccomened for the Chinese Menu and the Dim Sum. read more

Awesome food! Dim sum was amazing had different kinds of steamed dumplings and all I can say is Dim Yum! Stuffed hot peppers were delicious! Waitress and service was top notch. I just wish we would have taken pictures didn't think about it until we had finished but the food was beautiful to say the least. Great prices as well and just have to say that we love crab Rangoon and it can sometimes be a hit or a miss at different places as to the quality but they were wonderful here and there was like 12 to the order. The food here is good but it is not a great first impression when the order is wrong, and then you call and they can't understand enough English to fix the problem. That is not acceptable. If you are charging for it you need to know how to communicate with people enough to get it right. The number 18 combo was good. The beef lo mein was just ok. I really wanted a good custard bun but was instead given red bean paste buns, not at all the same thing. If I order from here again, I will either eat in or order at the counter so I can show them what I am ordering, and then I will double check it before I leave. I did stop in another time for takeout. Good beef with mixed vegetable and custard buns. I do like that you can get dim sum anytime here. So far this place has the best combinations that I have found. I have spent much of the past 30 years in China. I love real Chinese food, not what you get in most Chinese restaurants. This is the only place in town that has Chinese people eating real dim sum at lunch. Today I had congee with pork and preserved eggs. It was just like I get in China. Entrees are to die for... Superb. The fried foods leave a bit to be desired however. Just a tad too much oil in the fried rice too, as evidenced by the accumulation of oil at the bottom of the takeout box. After storage in the fridge overnight, the oil congeals and renders the bottom couple of inches in the container inedible. Other than that, great restaurant! read more

This place is so yummy! They have great dim sum options (most affordable and biggest selection.) I got a huge tofu and veggie soup when I was sick and it was so good. Consistently good. Love their garlic sauce. Veggies are always fresh and bright, and fried foods are not greasy at all. My daughter loves the Lo mein, and their fried rice is great too. Do not go here!!! We had a wonderful tasting meal here, but watch out for pieces of staple in the food. I almost ate it, and that would be a catastrophic event. When we make an inquiry what had happened, the waitress went to the kitchen and there were commotions for a longtime. Nobody came out of kitchen, then finally the waitress came out. Usually, mama-san in the restaurant sit at the counter and greet people, but she had disappeared completely. I had to ask what happened, and finally the waitress said, "the chef is confused." No apology. No owner or the chef came to the table to apologize. The waitress finally said "I am sorry, and we will take off 10 percent from the bill." That was an insult to the injury. Took only 5 dollars. Had I heard from the chef or owner, I would be more satisfied. This was after many visits to this restaurant for over past three years, and we are very familiar to them. I told the story to all my friends who own the restaurants, and they all said the treatment I received from the Golden Chopstix was unbelievable for the restaurant ethics. I could be hospitalized from the swallowing the staples, that itself would be damaging to this restaurant. The food is great here, but would I return? Absolutely NOT. read more

Food was amazing. Didn't really know what I wanted or what was especially good here, just ordered clams in black bean sauce because I was in a shellfish mood after spending the day at the beach inhaling the aroma of beach shack food. I'd had clams for dinner the previous two nights in a row at two other establishments (1st night fried clam roll, 2nd night linguine with clam sauce, each were delicious & excellent) so you'd think maybe I ought not order clams again--but SO GLAD I DID because the DELICIOUSNESS factor shot way past the other two (which were excellent for their categories). The black bean sauce clams were off the charts flavorful and once I finished all the clams I was tempted to order another bowl of rice just to eat with the leftover sauce, which was chock full of garlic, ginger, and scallions, which I picked out and ate all of. My spouse had crispy scallion pancake and Szechuan tofu, both really good. Tip: a wedge of the crispy scallion pancake dragged through the black bean clam sauce is next level eating. I've been dying for good dim sum, and this place has outstanding quality food! The steamed pork buns were the best I've had, and their soup dumplings made me want to cry they were so good! The steamed shrimp and pork dumpling were great too. I'm normally not a fan of lomein and when it comes to fried rice I can take it or leave it, but theirs is so fresh and not greasy! There were fresh, crunchy veggies in the lomein and rice, and it made it well worth ordering! This place is a hidden gem! read more

I have eaten at Golden Chopsticks 8-9 times, never a bad meal at all. Dim sum is very good and authentic. Prices are very reasonable, good location, easy parking, friendly staff. We expected better. This is what gets 4 stars in Rhode Island? I ordered shrimp in garlic sauce which had a hot pepper next to it on the menu and asked for it "extra spicy." The sauce tasted more like duck sauce than garlic and it wasn't hot AT ALL. The shrimp were tasteless and there was too much celery! My husband ordered spicy chicken in a sauce and at least his was faintly spicy. The fried rice wasn't bad, but the egg rolls were still slightly frozen inside. 4 stars??? And someone said "authentic" Chinese food? Not what we were served! We're looking for great Chinese food - like Oceanview in Narragansett. We were in Westerly the other day and I commandeered the family sedan to Golden Chopsticks. Since I've been reading the good things on Yelp, I felt it was a good time to check it out for myself. Don't let the brightly lit strip-mall look fool you - the food here is a huge step up from your average Chinese restaurant. I asked our waitress for the Chinese menu, and she took the time to explain dishes, make suggestions, and answer our questions. We tried some items from the dim sum menu, some from the real Chinese menu (written in Chinese with English translation) and some from the regular menu for our sons. The dim sum dishes were superb. One was a leek and shrimp dumpling that was crispy on the outside and tender and bursting with flavor inside. I'd go back just for more of those! The other dishes were all very good to excellent, and the barbarians (teens) liked their food very much. I've eaten many times in a number of places in both NY's and Boston's Chinatowns, and Golden Chopsticks would be a very solid restaurant in either. For Rhode Island, it's freakin' awesome. read more

Pretty good Chinese food as far as Rhode Island goes. I'm a big fan of their huge menu, especially since they have tons of more traditional food available. The staff was very friendly, and the waitress was more than willing to explain dishes when asked. Truth be told we got a light meal here, and I thought it was very good. I decided to try them again after all these years. I ordered 2 lunch combos - 1 beef with chop suey and 1 boneless spare ribs. The first order is my husbands usual order and I almost always order boneless spare ribs. I am pleasantly suprised on how good their food is now. I hope they hang on to their chef because their food has improved by leaps and bounds! Not greasy at all, fried rice had just the right amount of soy sauce. The Golden Chopstick is a hidden gem in Westerly, RI. Great Chinese and dim sum menu.

What I liked about this place was the wide selection they had available on their menu (pretty large menu). They also happen to serve dim sum at all hours of the day. Unfortunately we must have gone at a pretty bad time (right after late lunch and before dinner time) so a lot of what we wanted from the dim sum menu were either unavailable or sold out for the day. The rice rolls for examples the waitress informed us that they stop selling at 4pm, so make sure you get in there before then if you wanted some! The food came out relatively quick, but a little disappointed with the quality. The shrimp dumplings had a soggy skin and they weren't served with the sweet soy sauce that typically accompanies them at all other dim sum joints. The popular chicken feet dish had a delicious sauce but the meat was way overcooked, with the skin practically falling off the bones. But the har gao was delicious and the beef chow fun was also very well done. The chow fun wasn't too salty nor oily with the wide noodles soaked with just the right amount of sauce. We also got a spicy cuttlefish dish loaded with veggies and cooked in a pretty traditional chili sauce. The food is just ok, but service was good, the waitress was very nice, providing alternatives to the dishes they either ran out or didn't serve at that hour which was why they lost a couple of stars there. read more
