I haven't been to a Golden Corral location in a few years due to poor experiences. I really want to be excited and thrilled about Golden Corral, but once again meh. Unfortunately, the start of the dinner experience was one line open for drink and checkout. Imagine a drink worker with ear buds in who doesn't seem to care what is going on around him. The checkout counter lady was super friendly, helpful, and tried to keep the line flowing. The food temperatures and variety are hit or miss. You may go up to the line for a hot dog and there are no hot dog buns. The next round there will be hot dog buns, but no hot dogs. For an adult dinner buffet it is $18.49 before the price of a drink. The senior dinner buffet is $17.49. There are discounted buffet prices for kids ages 9-12. The table staff did an incredible job keeping tables picked up and cleaned off; during your meal and prepping for the next guest to arrive. The reasons for my rating is the temperature of the food, one lane checkout, price, and overall experience of the food. Beware with the parking lot entrance and always watch for flow of incoming and outgoing traffic. There are also potholes everywhere in the parking lot. As with many buffets, the flow of lines and atmosphere are all over the place. You may find yourself in the line yet others make a new line with bumper plates in all directions. read more

I don't know what happened! The fried chicken used to be so good. it put fried chicken chains to shame. Not the fried chicken I had today though! It was not seasoned at all...no salt or anything. First time I visited the food was pretty good, but the service was rude and nasty. * both times the drink person was rude and robot-like, with a blank stare and no customer service skills, no hello, just a blank stare of bitterness like they hate their job as they wait for you to tell them what you want, * tables are somewhat clean, * floor somewhat clean. Second time I went the service was good, but the food was -- not. * Breaded fish was way too salty, * baked chicken was undercooked, * breaded shrimp was too hard * blueberry pie tasted like a can * soft serve taste like the metal dispenser * lemon blueberry tart reminded me of plastic * baked fish had a strange film to it and was also undercooked * taco meat was plain and greasy -- overall it was definitely on the low end of either service or food quality both times. Yelpers, I went to this restaurant and the food was so delicious and seasoned to perfection. Me and my mom were enjoying our food until she found A FLY EMBEDDED IN HER SALAD. And you want to know what's worse?! When I told the manager he didn't even apologize! He took the plate I had in my hand, mumbled something and a lady came up to start the refund. But wait that's not all!! THEY ONLY REFUNDED ONE MEAL. A courtesy refund of both our meals to say "I'm sorry that you found an insect sleeping in your salad" was not established. NO ONE APOLOGIZED. Edit: They reached out to see what can be done to rectify the situation. I was given a free meal, the food is no longer as seasoned as it used to be, stations can be wiped down/cleaned more often. This is not your normal Golden Corral. Our favorite dishes here are, crab salad, clam chowder, fried fish, onion rings, pot roast, fried chicken, fudge, soft serve ice cream with hot fudge. If the cheeseburger bar ever comes back check it out. Not everything is wonderful every time, but there are enough things that are, and that keeps us going back and back. It's hard to find fried fish this good (thin cornbread coating). The fried chicken can be the best you'll get anywhere or it can be dried out. Atmosphere: The parking lot was packed so immediately we thought "awesome. It's busy so the food is fresh". Walking in, we were immediately asked what we wanted to drink and was rang out for two adult dinner buffet meals with drinks. All while the woman at the counter made zero eye contact with us and instead spoke (complained) to a coworker about another one of their coworkers. Still with no acknowledgment from her, we were swept off to our table by a separate employee to our table. We stood in the aisle for a couple minutes as they cleaned off the very messy table we were guided to but I liked that it was kind of further away from the buffet so it wasn't super noisy. Food: I was craving a buffet. And not a Chinese buffet but a hearty home cooking buffet. The two stars for this review is purely for the salad and taco bar and the 2 fried options my fiancé enjoyed. We tried: Fried okra: delicious Fried chicken: holy crap. That oil hasn't been changed yet this year. New Years resolution. I took one bite and all you could taste was what tasted like burnt oil. Popcorn shrimp: very good Other breaded shrimp: way too much breading. My fiancé peeled off all the breading and then ate the shrimp Mashed potatoes and gravy: I could build a wall with those potatoes. Like way stronger than the one trump wanted. This stuff is cement. Rolls: would have been great if the butter they give you wasn't frozen solid. Salad: surprisingly good greens. Iceberg was rough but the spring mix and spinach was very nice. Of all the buffets in Akron n surrounding areas, I believe this All-U-can-eat buffet @Golden Coral on Arlington in Akron is pretty good. My family n I went 2X for special occasions. TIP: If U can, pls go BEFORE 12 pm noon on the weekend bcuz no lines, good food, n great service. We come from the west coast where buffets are plentiful, so this place meets our high standards for an All-U-can-eat buffet. Our server Robert was very attentive, filled up our drinks often n also cleared our table free of dirty/empty plates. Overall, outstanding n excellent service n well worth it for the price. Also, I believe they may have a Senior citizen discount, which is a big PLUS. They're a lil more costly than other buffets, but it's well worth it. My favs are: the Grilled steak (cooked perfectly to your taste), tender roast beef, various veggies (like zuchini, etc.), sweet potatoes, steamed fish (n other Seafood), fresh fruits n a good selection of desserts. Must've went at a good time bcuz everything was delicious n fresh. What an awesome way to start off the 2023 new year. I love this place! Food, variety and price is outstanding. Lunch is a few dollars less than dinner. Lunch is served only Monday thru Friday. The Barn in Smithville is 19.50 before taxes for their dinner buffet. It is way overrated. Their dinner buffet does not have half of the selection that Golden Corral's lunch buffet has. The Barn's mashed potatoes are instant. Green beans taste like they came right out of a can, very bland. The Golden Corral is Amazing, it has Great Food in the top 10 of Restaurants, the people there are very nice, willing to help, it has great variety, up there with royal buffet, Ponderosa, Ryan's, and OK, Wing and Fish, only difference Golden Corral is better than any buffet you will go to! Golden Corral is the 7th best restaurant you'll visit, the other buffets I mentioned are a more sorry version of Golden Corral and make the 10-21 List, this is why Golden Corral are worthy to have commercials like the top fast food chains, it has the best variety in food you will ever find!! The place needs to be a little bit more clean and sanitary, but it still has GOATED GREAT Food and the Best Music you will hear coming from the Golden Ages of Music, Mostly the 1980s Decade, a few songs they play are from the very late 70s and very early 90s, the Music is Another Reason what makes Golden Corral Great, the Best Cooks creating the Best Food Make it So Great!! I decided to take my travels to this golden corral location on 3/25/2019 since it's the only one in the akron area which is sad and also that I have also not been here in a while so I thought I would make the trek for some lunch. As we all know that this is a buffet stule place which serves American Traditional food from salads, soups, pizza, and more and then the dessert area. As I arrived riding Akron Metroplitian Regional Transit Authority (City bus) I got there at around 11:30 am as I think that was the perfect time getting there because it would be right before the huge lunch rush at noon which I would expect as I was able to get a plate in before that rush came in. As foor the food it was good and warm and don't come here and have extremely high expectations for the food because it will not be Five star restaurant quality as I would compare this to ballpark food standards but that is just me, the food in itself that I got that I really loved was the fried chicken, cheesy potato bake, fried okra, mashed potatoes, and I would say the rest of it was middle of the road average and the only thing I did not care for was the cheesy grits as they were cold. The icecream was nice and really cold and the banana pudding was really good for my desserts. As for the service my waitress was really good at getting my refills and taking my plates off my table as I finished them so they did not sit on the table very long and she was really nice and friendly as well. As for the price as stated in this review earlier I went here for lunch and the adult buffet on Monday through Friday is $8.99 and then the drink is $2.29 plus tax so it came to like $12 something me personally I wish they would just add the price of the drink into the price of the buffet and $2.29 for a small cup of coca cola I think is a little overpriced when I can get the same size drink elsewhere for under $2.00 if I do go back I think I just won't get a drink or I will just get water. Also as a side note make sure you get there before the rush because nobody watches there kids and lets them roam free around the restaurant and they run around as well. So I guess my experience Would be at just Below Average and this is the type of place I would visit once in a blue moon type place. This is a long tale of woe that has been a few years in the making. But, I've been to a couple of buffets recently that had me reflecting on past experiences and I had to come back and complete this review. If melancholy were a table spice, then some kid went around to every table and partially unscrewed the cap on the shakers so that if you tried to sprinkle a little bit, you'd dump all of it out on your food. To further this analogy, if you were here at the Akron Golden Corral, and saw this happen to someone at a table nearby, you would watch in rapt fascination at the events that would soon unfold. First, you would witness the expression on their face oscillate between vague bewilderment and cloudy disappointment. (What ... just happened? How could this have happened ... to me?) Next comes the inevitable conflict between horrid disgust and the need to stay seated and just accept their plight. (My cheese covered tater tots are gross now! But ... the buffet line ... its just so far away...) You don't think the guy will eat it. People have too much respect for themselves to do such a horrific thing. But the guy picks up his fork, and as if it were in slow motion, you watch in awe as he starts to shovel the melancholy-drenched slop into their stubble-covered gullet. Why would he do that? Its inhuman to behold and even the most profane of tyrannical governments wouldn't inflict such treatment upon their criminally insane, and yet, here is a man that would do it to himself. And, holy shit, he's doing it again! He's actually going in for another bite! Now, I am not in the best shape of my life, but I can still run a 7 minute mile and I do a routine of exercises each morning to make sure my core is strong. I care, and I typically don't mock people for being a little portly and greasy. But there seems to be a certain clientele that is the mainstay of Golden Corral, and their categories range from 'Abominable' to 'Post-Three-Month-Gavage' to 'OH, DEAR GOD, ITS COMING THIS WAY!' With that visual in mind, and the image of surrounding Akron and nearby Cleveland (where many 100+ year old brick buildings are sadly deserted and, in same places, only half standing), it lends to a certain atmosphere in this restaurant that permeates everything from the air you breathe down to the food that sits saturated in sparsely filled steam trays under shining heat lamps. This leaves everything you eat with an acrid aftertaste on your tongue. Its the taste of resignation. And about that food... For anyone in Southern California, you're probably familiar with the 99 Cent store, and from anyone not from the southwest you can probably infer the concept. And while the 99 cent store brand isn't bad when you're buying sponges or bleach, you probably want to stay away from their brand of boxed mac and cheese or breakfast sausage. But, you can expect to find that here. Rinso Brand, 99 Cent, 4-to-a-Pack Mini Pizzas. They've been opened, microwaved, and dumped out for everyone to enjoy. It's kind of like when you were back in Elementary School and you saw that they were having nachos for the very first time for lunch; remember how excited you got? Yet, when the day finally came and you got in line, they gave you a sealed plastic tray with stale chips and processed, cheese-esque, nacho flavored, gel-paste. They don't taste good, they don't even really taste all that okay. But, you still ate them because, you know, they're nachos. But, they're not. They're not nachos, Virginia. And because of that, everything here is either sub-par or worse. Sure, the selection is mildly impressive, if you ignore anything that isn't strictly American or Mexican. Forget about freshness, everything comes frozen and reheated. If it requires precision, it won't be cooked properly. Dry and stringy is the norm for chicken. Tough and charred is the norm for pork and beef. Any cake or pastry is stale and oddly gritty. (But, Caleb! What about the chocolate waterfall? You're forgetting about the chocolate waterfall!) Yes, as advertised, there is a chocolate waterfall, and you can dip anything you want in it. Marshmallows, graham cracker bits, your dwindling sense of pride, it all tastes better with a hardened and chalky shell. At least, I assume it does. After watching someone at the table get a plateful of dipped treats, they quickly became disillusioned by the tiny, fudge mallets they dried into. It's rather depressing seeing a child's excitement slowly melt into saddened disappointment as he pushes them about with hollow thuds. And its a perfect metaphor for anyone's experience here. So, dig down deep, find your deeply buried and almost long-forgotten sense of shame, and do yourself the best favor you could ever do; go to a gas station, pick up some almost-expired, packaged sushi from their discount bin, and have a better meal than anything you could eat at Golden Corral. read more

The guy cooking the steak must have been saving it to take home . First piece he gave me was not medium and was mostly fat . I went back he gave me a second piece that was well done and smaller than first piece. Steak used to be cooked properly and one received a generous portion. The salad bar wasn't fresh and didn't have many options. Only thing I recommend are the rolls. I won't be going back. read more

Sat down and asked for silverware then went up to get food. Came back, no silverware. Asked our server again, he said he was getting it. Sat waiting, saw the server with a handful of Silverware coming towards us only to walk past to the table in the back. Asked again ands finally got some. Server spent more time talking to whom i would guess was family or friends sitting in his section. Stacked plates at the end of the table for him to take, didn't happen another server from the section over came and picked them up. Husband asked for A-1 sauce finished steak and then finally got it. Food was barely warm. Salad was good, but almost all the crocks were almost empty. Not worth the money what so ever! read more

Two Words "Upset Stomach" Went here Sunday night while visiting my kids. First off I want to say the server who attended our table was great, I wish I could rate her separate! I tried some ribs, the two I tried tasted great and so I went to get some more. They were extremely over salted, sauced and in parts burned. I should of never tried to eat them and regret i did. My stomach has finally settled down today from my visit on Sunday. I spent most of the remainder of my visit, visiting the bathroom. I should of known better from my experience at the Golden Corral here in Columbus but I figured perhaps this location would be better and my kids like eating there. The stars given one the steak was OK and the second for the mushrooms were good. The rest was lacking flavor, texture and taste. Poor food prep. I would have given 4 stars but after driving 2600 miles in hopes of cotton candy at the buffet (we don't have a GC anywhere near us) and they didn't have it all day, I'm a little disillusioned. The last 2 reviewers really just seemed like they didn't care for buffets. I don't frequent them often but once in a while it's helpful to have the large variety when you have very particular children in a town not near home. When we are in town, this is the GC closest for us. My first visit was in 2012 when our organization came in to thank the restaurant when they had purchased a new soap box derby car when a child had crashed on the track and destroyed his the day before the world championship race. Last year we returned and our server was Julius. He is awesome. We even saw him the next day at the event in which we were participating. The restaurant catered the event with free food for our racers. This year, we returned and were pleasantly greeted by him again, and he remembered us after a whole year. He is very attentive and friendly. We arrived an hour before closing. Both servers that attended us were friendly an helpful. They even sang to our birthday guest. The food was not hot, I guess that is to be expected when it is close to closing time. They didn't have the ribs or cotton candy to which we were looking forward. But most everything else was good (the brussel sprouts were way too over cooked and were mushy.) the chicken was flavorful (bourbon chicken was amazing!) Regardless, with the majority of the large selection being decent and the wonderful staff we have encountered, we will be back next time we are in Ohio. This is my first time eating at a Golden Corral. I have been hesitant because many reviews are negative about this place but my experience was a good experience. The restaurant was clean and the staff was attentive and pleasant. The food was good, hot and fresh. The only thing I did not like was the Mac n cheese. The pot roast was so good, it was tender and flavorful. My son loved the cotton candy. I liked the chocolate fountain. The chocolate covered strawberries were the best. Too noisy, people talk at high volumes with no consideration for others. Table was "cleaned" for new customers but still dirty. I found a gnat in my salad. Last time I ate here, I ended up throwing up the food. The staff (besides the steak chef) are lazy with how they prepare and cook the food. I never have a good time when I come here. Our trip to golden corral was a disaster from the start...we should have walked out when we had the chance(my husband our son and myself). As soon as we come in we could tell the cashier was not in a good mood. Well the people in front of us asked her for water. She answered with "fine" and rolled her eyes. Then she got the water and went to give it to them but they didnt see her so she got mad walked to them (its only a couple feet from the cash register to the pop machine) and slammed the water on the counter. She walked back to the soda machine and an employee asked her if she was ok. She then proceeded to tell the other lady that she was supposed to be helping her and she wasnt, the other lady was running the other registar though she couldnt leave her side to get drinks for anyone else. Then another worker comes up and asks the angry cashier if she was ok. her responce was she was going to kill the customers. ..loud enough for us to hear her. Then turned to us to take our order. We decided to stay bc my son said he was too hungry to wait somewhere else lol, but really he wanted to go to the chocolate fountian (He loves to put gummy bears on a stick and dip them in the chocolate he does that every time we go), even though we were uncomfortable and my son was startled. So at the table we asked the waiter for the manager and he went and got the manager. The manager came right over and listen to our story. He responded by giving us a free meal and said he would talk to the cashier whom he promises is a good employee and is probably dealing with something at home. So we said ok and started to get our food. An employee from the kitchen comes out and walks right into my son almost causing a disaster. Then looks at my son like it is his fault and walks away. So we get our food which there was not much to choose from (lots of empty stations) and what they did have was cold. The meat was tough too. So we eat what we can stand then let our son get those gummie bears he wanted so bad. well an employee got yelled at while my son was dipping his gummies...they were on sticks btw not with his hands. And the employee who was now angry because he got yelled at, yelled at MY SON and said he was not allowed to do that, but we were under the impression that you can dip whatever u wanted as long as your hands were not in it. Not to mention he does this every time we are they and no one was a problem with it.so my son was crushed. On top of all of this out waiter only came to the table 1 time to take plates and he had an attitude that we didnt eat everything on the plate....asking in a rude manner if we are done and then rolling his eyes when we say yes...there was still quite a bit of food on the plate because it tasted horrible. Then I went to the ladys restroom....it was filthy. Stalls we dirty, paper towels everywhere, empty soap bottles left on the counter with soap spilled everywhere; it was horrible. And then there was a broom and dust pan thrown in the middle of the floor.... So in conclusion the service was terrible, the food was terrible, and the place was dirty. we will not be going back and I advise you not to go there either! Watch yourself when you pay for your food. We paid 32.94 on a Sunday because they start dinner at 11:00 am. Then after we left I had to check my bank account and was charged an extra 2.00 on top of what I had already paid.
