I've been to this Golden Corral a lot -- definitely not by choice. My mom doesn't cook as much anymore so she loves these buffet style restaurants as a way to spend time together. Hard to say no to that. Despite the negative reviews, I find that if I stick to what I know on the slop trough it's really not entirely too bad. FOOD + Awesome Pot Roast: No really, that's what it's called according to the website. Although, I wouldn't label it as such. This is my go-to protein. Tender and basic in flavor. + Mashed Potatoes w/ Gravy: Hard to 'eff this up, but it happens sometimes. + Steamed Cabbage: Has a nice smoky flavor from the ham. + Banana Pudding: I'm not ashamed to admit that this is my favorite dessert from here. I used to like GC a lot. After this last visit, I'll find somewhere else to dine. I typically get a small serving of many of the buffet items. The meat items were cooked to the consistency of shoe leather without normal seasoning. Most of the veggies were bland. Again a lack of seasoning. A few were overcooked. The mac and cheese and spaghetti was something that even my grand kids would not eat. The dessert cakes were bone dry. They charge $3.29 for a glass of tea. That is 27% of the cost of the meal. Absurd! I spoke with a waitress who said she had worked there for 8 years. She said that they weren't allow to use any seasonings and very little salt. First, the cashier charged me for three buffets instead of two. When I mentioned it, she was very apologetic and offered a refund. Then the bathroom...beyond disgusting and seriously ruined my appetite. We pushed through and loaded our plates with the food that looked the most edible. All of it, even the rolls, was DISGUSTING. Oh my goodness! I have no idea why this place is still in business. We paid $22 per person to come to a buffet where the cooks are yelling curse words over the line. The food doesn't look fresh at all, like it has been just sitting there. I had the nacho cheese and it tastes like nothing at all. Meat was warm not hot, our waitress was nice. Looks like they needed to deep clean and was dark on the inside. Extremely limited breakfast options and what was out seemed old even though they literally just opened. Coffee tasted burned. Paid 14.99 a head x3 plus drinks. A total waste of money. We visited 5 years ago and the food was terrible!! However.... This is my second time coming back within a few months and they have not disappointed at all, LATELY. Maybe it's new management but the food was hot and fresh. I'm really surprised they had fried fish with the tail and bones, you can barely find real fish anywhere these days. The mashed potatoes were so thick and flavorful. The steak, fresh off the grill was seasoned and cooked to perfection. It was very tender! The guy on the grill walked around and greeted people asking how was their meals so I'm assuming he was the manager. That guy knows what he was doing! They have ice cream, slushee machines, with great flavors. I didn't have much sweets because I was stuffed, but my family sure did and I'm assuming they were just as good! The place was family friendly with the usual family chatter and kids running around for desert. The ambiance was as expected. Had a great time here. First time. You pay for your meal ahead of time so you can just walk out. The server was so helpful with always asking if we needed refills or extra napkins. A very large group of my family and myself dined at this Golden Corral location after my grandma's funeral and committal. I can't recall dining at a Golden Corral Buffet in Texas before, but I probably have when I was younger. Anyway, the only dining experiences I remember were at Golden Corral locations in California. Since it's a buffet, I expected mediocre food to begin with, so my expectations weren't that high. The selection had a little bit of everything: salads, fruit, southern food, tacos, and various desserts. The food was a hit or miss for me, as the food was either really good or really bad. For instance, the chicken & dumplings dish was actually quite delicious, but the freshly cooked steak was absolutely disgusting. I've never had terrible steak before until I dined here. It had a funky farm scent and was not seasoned at all. I immediately spit it out after chewing it a bit. Other items were quite good, such as the green beans, mac & cheese, and so forth. Customer service was average. The people at the front were friendly and worked with my cousins, who paid for over 50 family members to dine there. Our waitress, bless her heart, was trying her best to keep up with all of us; however, since there were so many of us she would forget things here and there. She would eventually bring the items to us when she remembered after seeing us again. Overall, I was a bit disappointed with my dining experience at this Golden Corral location. I can understand the customer service since there were so many of us, however, the food was a hit or miss. As I previously stated, I've never had disgusting steak until dining at this restaurant. The food has definitely improved at the Golden corral Better variety, and better quality overall I Also believe, especially at this establishment that the quality of the servers has improved. They seem to have a very good relationship with the guests. The only downfall I noticed was they put their weakest link at the front counter at the front She simply had no personality at all and left you wondering why you even bothered to enter the restaurant in the first place The other staff were laughing, enjoying their jobs and smiling, but not her I work at a restaurant and we always have a more personal people at the very front to be able to greet our guests with a warm and cherry greeting and to make customers feel very welcome I did not feel that at the golden corral in Killeen On the other hand I am delighted that the food has improved and there seems to be a great variety offered. This place cleary just phoned it in the night I dined there. The line was terrible. I am retired Army we eat anything. For me to not wanna eat states a lot. The ice cream and steak was the best thing. The staff was like whatever. I was wondering was the food left out over night. It looked very old and dry. We decided to try out the breakfast buffet despite the previous reviews' concerning the cold food. The reviews were correct, luke warm at best. Our server was great, very attentive and courtesy. My wife and I usually have made the drive over to Temple (11 miles or so) to eat at the GC there, but the one in Killeen has (supposedly) had "new" management and has been marginally improved, so we went there for supper the other night with a friend of ours. The minute we walked through the door, my nose was assaulted by the stench of sewage and rotted foulness!! This has happened in the past, when this restaurant was constantly plagued with an air conditioning system that wasn't working (restaurant failed to shut down) and the sewer system malfunctioned, sending the scent of sewer gas and mildew flooding into the dining areas. I could see areas in the ceiling that hinted of a black mold infestation, along with a heavy coat of dust that sat on top of some of the ceiling pipes in the dining areas, too!! I have allergies and my nose immediately started to run like a river, the minute we entered the place. The food looked like it had been out there in those nasty steam trays all day. I couldn't even finish my meal because of that horrid smell. The employees behind the serving line were loud and boisterous, seeming to enjoy their laughing and joking more than the work they were being paid to do. Our server did try to clear the plates from our table, but failed to ask us why our plates contained so much untouched food. If my wife ever insists on returning to this disaster called a "restaurant", I will tell her that I'd rather eat out of a dumpster than eat while trying not to smell a dirty sewer. read more

After my husband told him that we would not return after being talked to so rudely, he told us we could leave right there and then. What manager/ owner talks to his customers that way? Business hours are not good. What kind of buffet restaurant closes at 8pm on the weekend? But this location does. They started cleaning and stop bringing fresh food out at 7pm. This is horrible. The entrance reminds me of something from a Netflix satire documenting a mediocre collegiate experience. The building is full of people in their early 50s with all the ailments too match, but this is no surprise as it is Golden Corral after all. There is a growing line in front of the steak dispersal window that reminds me of birds flocking to crumbs in the park on a Sunday afternoon. The line is discouraging but I've tried everything in the building - "Fuck it, why not?" I think as I step in line. Immediately I'm followed by two older gentlemen as if they were waiting for me to make the first commitment. "What kinda steak you want?" the chef asks. "Eh, medium well or well done, doesn't ma--" "Well done takes too long!" the chef belts interrupting my sentence. ...I digress. I guess I'll settle for the buttered rolls once again, consistency is key after all. There's little to be said about the establishment. The staff are direct, quick to the point, almost rude. The place feels like it was your last choice on the way home. It offers no welcome, no goodbye, it's kind of just... there. We came here at about 10:30 AM deliberately so that we could have breakfast and lunch for four dollars less between the two of us. Still didn't work out for me. The food on the line was luke-warm, by the time we got our food and returned to the table the food was room temperature and cold before we could take a few bites. Informed the wait staff, who was very friendly and tried to be helpful. They informed the manager who with the kitchen staff checked the temperature of the food on the line which was at the minimum temperature for Health Department standards. Tried other food on the line with the same results. At least my drink was cold. When my wife searched for the manager to explain what we had already told the waitress he replied that he had tested the temp and found it to be a few degrees above the minimum standard for Health Department guidelines Despite her adamant claims that the food was cold his only recourse was to comp a portion of the bill and would not issue an apology prior to leaving the restaurant she approached patrons who came in a few minutes after us and asked them if their food was hot. The group of three women responded that it was luke-warm and got cold quickly. With this information she approached the manager again and felt that he was dismissive of the complaint. We have been patrons of Golden Coral for over 20 years and have never encountered a situation like this. It is sad to say that customer service no longer means what it used to be. Not only is the place understaffed with waiters, but the food is also ALWAYS "lukewarm, dried out, no fish, no silver ware or no spoons, no baked potatoes, only sweet potatoes that are overcooked, sour cream frozen, no steak, no sausage just pitiful, and overprized $40.01." After reading the reviews I was sure this place was going to suck big but nope! I wish I could give this place 0 or negative stars!!! The cashier over charged us on our bill. I told them that total didn't sound correct but she insisted it was, I think she was trying to steal from us. My oldest son thought the food was gross and I didn't even bother to eat. Seriously, the food looked disgusting... My husband said he's tasted worse food but he can't exactly remember when... After looking at the receipt a second time I caught the overcharge and they did finally refund the over charge but NOT my meal (not one bite of food did I eat). The overcharge was refunded in cash instead of back into my account. I even called the manager afterwords and explained the situation to them as well - including the fact that I did not eat - I don't like eating in places where they try to steal from me. They offered a free buffet, but we are not going back into that nasty establishment. As far as I'm concerned they stole $10 from me and they don't know how to train their employees as the woman who over charged us was (in the words of the manager) one of the most experienced cashiers that they have. She also did not apply the military discount to both meals only one and that was applied to the extra meal that shouldn't have been on the ticket to begin with. I'm writing corporate about this issue and would seriously recommend that anyone even considering going here simply take their money to a Chinese buffet or a nice restaurant...
