It's only on certain days. It is absolutely delicious. The type of meal where no one says anything because the food is the main focus. Forget conversation, there's glorious roasted pork on the table. Today was my first time trying out this restaurant. I've always driven by it but never tried it. I wish I had sooner because it was amazing! Got there close to opening time and we were greeted and served immediately. We ordered the lunch combos of the char siu (bbq pork) and the roasted duck. These dishes were a huge portion served with white rice and sautéed bok choy. The flavor was incredible and, literally, the best roasted duck I have ever had in my life. No lie! And I've eaten my fair share of roasted duck! The meat was flavorful, super tender, and the skin...mmmm... so crisp and juicy and kind of melts in your mouth! My go-to place in Charlotte, NC pales in comparison to this establishment! The prices are on the cheaper side compared to the portion and quality of the food -- pleasant surprise there. As far as ambiance, it's not a fancy date-night type of restaurant. It's a simple setup with either dine-in or carry out options. The best places are the "holes in the wall." Okay, good Chinese food is hard to find. And on our second try since we moved to Columbia, we found one. Excellent shrimp and lobster sauce, great lo mein, spare ribs, won ton soup, sesame shrimp, shrimp fried rice, vegetable fried rice, Mongolian beef, all were excellent. As were the spring rolls. The one negative, and it's a small one, is the egg rolls, while delicious, were a bit on the small side. I lived in Scottsdale, and it took me 7 years and over 100 tries to find decent Chinese food (and when we did, it was excellent, but the only good Chinese food in the whole city). Here, less than 2 weeks, and 3 tries. And the first two were okay, just not as good as here. Another great thing is that if you order a dish with shrimp, you can order extra shrimp for a reasonable mark-up. I've actually never seen that before. Capital idea. read more

I've been on a Cantonese roast duck hunt since moving to Columbia, and I'll say the duck here is the best I've tried so far. The duck skin needs a bit more work, but the meat is tender as it should be. A lot of restaurants tend to boil, freeze, and reheat their duck, but that isn't the case here, which is a relief. The menu has changed and downsized tremendously! Their attached website menu is now longer current (I was very disappointed). Several "to-go" customers came in and ordered things that are no longer on the menu - moo goo chicken, for example). I ordered 1/2 and 1/2 iced tea. They don't serve unsweetened tea. I ordered the egg drop soup and it was served at room temperature. Then I ordered the tangerine beef (instead of the crispy fried tangerine chicken). When the beef came, it was battered and deep fried before being mixed in the tangerine sauce - very strange. read more

A fantastic experience and much needed here in Irmo... Authentic Cantonese Chinese food finally here including fresh roasted duck and Chinese BBQ. Came on a Friday night and sat down immediately and was treated to traditional Chinese hot tea while perusing the menu. We of course have the roasted duck and also the Shanghainese noodle soup, delicious!!! Such a relaxing good dinner that we will actually be coming back tomorrow night to try other things on the menu. We got a tip from some Chinese friends of ours that this was authentic Cantonese style Chinese food so we gave it a shot. All I can say is that it is by far the best Chinese food I've ever had. Everything was made fresh, was delightfully tender and had a light flavorful sauce. The portion size was huge! I had enough for dinner and for lunch today, so it was a great value for the price. Ok People! Forget about any previous experience you have had at Golden Dragon! The restaurant is all new and has a new concept which is Cantonese style duck and pork dishes. The roast duck is fabulous. Tasty and rich, just like duck should be. If you have never had duck and want to try it, this is the place. My husband had the honey bbq roast pork which was fresh and moist and delicious. The sauce that came on the side was great. I was even dipping the steamed bok choy (another great surprise) in the sauce. We will definitely be visiting soon as I am very interested to try the noodle soup with the duck.
