I have visited Golden Dragon 4 or 5 times over a 20 year span. Each visit brings another unique reason to stay away. We have had extremely bad table service in the past, so I decided to give them another try with carry-out. My son threw his dinner in the trash because he said it was inedible. I tasted it, and it was just a platter of bean sprouts with a white sauce and the only flavor was bitter and bland. My dinner was loaded with so much MSG it was ruined as well. At least the sushi roll was just ok. $50 for 2 dinners and a roll! The whole place is exactly what it looks like. A polished turd. WTF is with the 80's themed bar that was *recently* renovated? A least it's cleaner than it used to be, but I don't need anymore reasons to stay away. I'll gladly go to Asia Town and get delicious Chinese food and superior service. You should too. read more

Loved the shrimp egg foo young, tender shrimp in a giant egg omelette filled with fresh and crunchy bean sprouts and onions, served with a rich and flavorful brown gravy poured on top of it. Ordered here 2x in 3 weeks -today being Christmas and we are not having company and are super tired! Today we ordered 4 egg rolls, Kung Pao and Combination Lo mein. Solid egg rolls. Lo mein is super delicious. The Kung Pao wasn't super spicy but I could request it hotter. Outside of their lunch menu, we spend a a good $50 which includes a tip (we are walking ins). Everything is more expensive than it was 25 years ago so food costs are up BUT if you want to have solid Chinese food that is local, this is your joint. In fact, they have a bar and I was tempted to have a cocktail whilst I waited for my Christmas lunch/dinner. read more

I am actually really surprised that my review will be one of the few mostly positive ones on this business's page thus far as usually I am at least persnickety enough about my delivery food to find fault somewhere with something. The reviews before me show that I probably got lucky tonight! Anyway, the calamari for about 10 bucks was great. Large rings were fried- not flaky crispy but not soggy at all either- and not rubbery, mixed w/bell peppers. The avocado salad was basic with iceberg lettuce, a few piece of carrot strings, and about half an avocado's worth of slices topped with black sesame seeds for $4.95. It didn't come with dressing which is a shame. The oyako don for about $12 was a large portion of chicken and egg with onion pieces and a small ~1/2 pint of white rice on the side. It was great! The egg and chicken mixture was flavorful and satisfied my egg craving. I'll definitely order again. Nothing was dry, stale, or questionable which is unusual at least for the latest in my string of delivered Asian food. Downside is for DoorDash the delivery fee is $5.99! read more

We have gone to Golden Dragon for a couple years now - since they had new owners/management. They now have sushi which is great for me when my husband has Chinese. Except for COVID, and the usual busy holidays, service is good and the food is very good. The owner/ manager is always pleasant and it has become one of our Chinese restaurants. Our favorite Chinese food restaurant. The orange chicken is crispy and spicy. The portions are huge. The seat and sour chicken is also crispy and the sauce is very good. The octopus sushi was very tender and the wasabi is very hot! The steak on a stick is tender but a bit chewy. It has a sweet teriyaki flavor. The crab Rangoon is very good and crispy on the outside and creamy in the inside. It is a casual place to dine with your friends and family. There is a full bar and the drinks are strong! There is also a sushi bar with a huge menu. There are a lot of choices on the menu and they have family meal options as well. The entire time we were there, my sons and I just kept saying "I can't believe how good this place is!" From the outside, it doesn't look that remarkable, but we have lived in the area a while and noticed a new sign: "Sushi bar now open". We decided to eat there on a whim, and based on the standardized "Chinese food place" look when we pulled up, I honestly didn't expect much. However, inside the atmosphere was warm and cozy. We were very comfortable. There was a bar area, a large dining area, and a small sushi bar in the back where we decided to sit. We were immediately given water and place settings, and the Sushi Chef prepared us a special salad to try - on the house. I think they were trying out a new dish, and it was incredible! I wish I had thought to ask what it was, but we were starving and ordered quickly instead of asking many questions. We came in before the dinner crowd, so soups and appetizers appeared almost immediately, and dinner followed quickly after. While I can definitely say that this is no "fancy sushi joint", the food we received was comparable to much nicer places we've been to in the downtown / trendy areas of the city. (And the prices were much lower!) The food looked and tasted amazing, and this was definitely surprising considering how plain the restaurant looks from the outside. The staff was very kind and considerate, and we are very glad we decided to try it out. I highly recommend this place if you enjoy great sushi, but don't want / have time to go through all of the paces of getting ready for a night in the town... or spend for one. Big, bright and clean. We came in at 3:30 and were given the choice of lunch or dinner menu. Many dishes to choose from. Lots of small plates or apps, like pot stickers, egg rolls, spare ribs, crab Rangoon, wings, spring rolls, etc. We received a complimentary basket of fried shrimp chips or toast. I ordered the egg drop soup. It was a cereal bowl size of delicious soup with lots of eggs. The entrees were hardy. The menu for sushi is large. We ordered the spider roll and another. Both were very good, but the pieces were huge. I cut mine in order to eat them. My son tried to stuff his in his mouth, but the sushi fell apart. I give up on this place. I successfully got lunch here a few months ago and it was really good, so I wanted to go back, naturally. Went back a month later, walked in and wanted to place a carry out order. There was a guy back behind the bar that didn't acknowledge me at all for several minutes. I asked if anyone could take my order, and he said "one minute." 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes passed and no one ever came out from the back to take my order, so I left. Tonight, tried to go back and give it another shot. There was a man at the counter, and he was on his way to the back. Told me to look at the menu and he'd be back. Again, 10 minutes pass and he never came back. I give up. I can only judge the food based on one visit, because I couldn't even get any service either of the next 2 times I tried to go. Tonight I had sushi they have a huge selection. I had the miso soup, oshinko roll, tempura tofu roll and avocado roll. The miso soup was toasty on this chilly day. My favorite of the sushi was the tempura tofu very flavorful the others were just ok. The staff are following Covid safety guidelines. The restaurant was clean. The service was slow and the television was very loud. I would dine again. I also had a Groupon so I saved money. read more

Been going here since my grandparents used to take us in the 90's and I still try to make my way out here a couple of times a year. Food is good, but it is on the pricey side comparatively. Dine in is hit and miss anymore as they have odd hours. Make sure you call ahead to see when dine in starts as some days they open at 10am, but do not start dine in until 4pm. First off, it takes a lot for me to be angry enough to leave a review. Congratulations, your rudeness and mediocre food qualifies!!! It has been awhile since I've eaten here. I used to (key words, used to) love their orange beef. It was crispy and so flavorful. But not this time. It wasn't even appealing to look at. The waitress was bossy and rude. My step daughter is mentally challenged and was having a hard time deciding on what she wanted to order. The waitress kept telling us to order and she'd come back for her order. I ordered won ton soup that had no flavor. None. The noodles were soft and I barely had any broth. At least it was hot. My daughter got sweet and sour chicken that she said was good. My husband ordered egg rolls that he wanted with his dinner and even after telling the waitress that again, he still got them way before his dinner. She brings out each dinner individually. She sets mine down at the same time my husband is showing me something and I said, here and she picks mine up and sets it by him. When I said, no that's mine, she gets snotty with me. So we get to the end of the meal and she brings the check and is extremely pushy about paying for it. Hubby gives her the money and she brings the change and he leaves her a tip that is less than 10%. Trust me, I will leave at least a 15% tip for mediocre service. She barely deserved what he was leaving. But when she had the audacity to point out to him that it was less than a 10% tip, she didn't deserve anything!!!! He ended up leaving her a few dollars more but I felt he should have just picked it up and left. I have NEVER had service like that before!!! Just horrible!!! Now it is small pieces of chicken with no breading and fried until it is hard and dry. Their fried rice used to be to die for. Fluffy rice that was full of vegetables and large hunks of pork. Now it is dry and flavorless. My soup and egg roll were both cold. I asked for ice tea and was told they didn't have any, but then served me hot tea. So I made my own. I guess making ice tea is too complicated for this new service team. I tried to provide direct feedback but they did not want to hear about it. Excited to see Golden Dragon open, I stopped for egg rolls and soup to take home. But, I guess the place is under new ownership because of, and since the remodel. If it's the same owner, then you should not have fixed something that wasn't broken. It was about 8:20 pm, yesterday. There were only a few people in there and they were way in the back. One table with patrons and a couple sitting at a brand new sushi counter watching sushi being made. BUT, there was not a single customer or employee in the newly remodeled storefront and not a soul seated or working in bar. I saw a closed door with light coming out from bottom that was probably the kitchen as that is where it used to be located however i had no intention of going back and knocking. Neither was I about to trod all the way to the back of restaurant to ask the waitress who saw me, where whoever was supposed to work the front of store and register area, was. And now, I have no intention of going back after having gone there for years. There are too many other fish in the stream. Oops, I meant to say other Chinese restaurants in the area. read more

Went to Golden Dragon for the first time after having a craving for Asian Food. My husband ordered a combination dinner while I ordered two sushi rolls and edamame. A few minutes after ordering, the waitress came back to ask if I had wanted one or two spicy tuna rolls, but I hadn't ordered any spicy tuna rolls at all. That was our first red flag. The second red flag was the table itself... it didn't appear dirty, but it was very sticky. I made sure to keep my hands in my lap or on the placemat to avoid touching it. While we waited for our food, the ladies at the table across from us had ordered wine and said that it had gone bad and did not taste good. They wanted a different wine from a new bottle as a replacement, which required 3 different staff members and about 15 minutes to resolve. While we waited for our food, the waitress also went to their table to clarify orders, two of which she had incorrect. Our food finally arrived, and our orders were correct. The food was not great, but not terrible. The edamame was overcooked, and the sushi just was not very good. I didn't expect anything spectacular, but I have eaten buffet sushi that I enjoyed more. My husband's chicken had about a half inch of breading on it. He said it tasted decent, but the amount of breading was off putting. After finishing our food, we waited around 15 minutes for the waitress to return to our table. She had forgotten that my husband's meal came with ice cream for dessert, so we had to request it. She brought the ice cream and our check. After finishing the ice cream, we sat for another 10 minutes before anyone let us know that we needed to go up front to pay for our meals. We were not pleased with the service at Golden Dragon at all, and there are many Chinese restaurants around with better food. We will not be returning. read more

Very disappointed in the food and the service here, although my order was to go. I ordered vegetable lomein as well as Singapore noodles and vegetable fried rice. Also got some spring rolls. The spring rolls we're ok but everything else was not. The lomein noodles were not lomein noodles. They were this white noodles. The sauce was virtually non-existent and was not the typical brown sauce. It was not only not what I expected but it tasted terrible. Singapore noodles are a great test for a Chinese restaurant. They failed. In the areas of the dish that were seasoned, it wasn't bad, unfortunately, there were only patches of seasoning with large areas of just plain noodles. As if to add insult, the shrimp seemed a bit off. Very fishy tasting. (interestingly others commented on the shrimp being fishy) The vegetable fried rice was literally gray in color. Very unappetizing appearance. It had a taste to match. I did call the restaurant to hive them the opportunity to make at least the lomein right, I was told, "that is the way we do it." They won't have the opportunity to do it for me again. Save yourself from a dissapointing expereince and go elsewhere. read more

The quality of my food was awful. I ordered chicken hibachi and two sushi rolls. The chicken was tough and flavorless, and the sauce in the hibachi dish also had no flavor. The cut of the meat was also poor. The rice in my sushi was dry, and there were extremely hard chunks of unidentifiable pieces in my spicy salmon roll. Terrible experience. If you want to maintain your dignity, you'll avoid this dump at all costs. Besides being overpriced, the food took AN HOUR to arrive to our table because our waitress decided that a table buying alcohol was more important. Meanwhile, our water glasses stayed empty and tables around us we're sat, ate and left while we waited. Waitress nowhere to be seen. Once the food did arrive, it was the wrong order and the waitress accused us of eating the scallops which never came on the dish. Nice right? It also didn't come with rice which took 20 more minutes to arrive, you know, after we had finished eating. Oh and the kids meal I ordered for my two year old came in two waves, 45 minutes apart. Kids deal with that sort of thing so well! To fix it? The restaurant offered half off the meal they accused us of removing food from. Yeah, right. We went last night, first time in a number of years. This is an old place -- I am pretty sure it was around when I was in high school and I am not a youngster. I've eaten here any number of times over the past 30+ years. It is in new hands or some change in management. Quality has really dropped. Prices have literally doubled, vs other local Chinese places -- they now charge $13 (!!!) for a combination plate with egg foo yong -- literally the cheapest dish on any Chinese menu! I could get a shrimp entree for less than that at most other local Chinese eateries. And it doesn't even come with won ton soup (!!!) -- also a very inexpensive item or hot & sour soup -- those are extra! (50 cents for won ton, 75 cents for hot & sour ) -- I have never seen surcharges like this elsewhere, nor did this place used to charge this way. They may have lunch specials, I don't know -- it was not in the menu nor on their website. Regular dinner prices for all items were roughly 30-40% MORE than most other local Chinese places -- for example, $3 for a cup of won ton soup which is $1.50-$1.75 elsewhere. I see no reason in location (old place in old strip mall on Mayfield) nor ambiance (clean but old fashioned) for these huge price increases. It used to be that the Ho Wah at LaPlace in Beachwood had the highest prices I'd ever seen locally for ordinary Chinese food -- but there, you could argue the location and interior of the restaurant were "fancy" and upscale. You cannot say that at the Golden Dragon. We had a Groupon and had to go back 3 times (!!!) because they would not honor it on Christmas Eve or December 27th (a Wednesday!) because of "holidays". Well, Xmas Eve is NOT a legal holiday nor is Dec 27th. They are nothing. This was not fair. We had the family dinner for 2. I will be fair and say the soup was very good (big bowl of wonton for 2, plenty for 3 servings) and the appetizers (egg roll, shrimp puff and spareribs) were outstanding, among the best I've had. But the entrees were a huge disappointment. We had kung pao shrimp and chicken subgum chowmein -- two standard choices. The chicken in the subgum chowmein was gross -- it was tough, chewy and tasted "off". The kung pao was very stingy on shrimp. Both dishes were marred by being overwhelmed with huge amounts of chopped water chestnuts, clearly to "pad them out" to fill a big plate. BOTH dishes. The actual ingredients were skimpy! The chow mein was especially poor, and this is a pretty simple dish. It had almost no sauce, was flavorless and dry. I'd NEVER order it again. The kung pao was mediocre at best. Dessert was supposed to be a choice of almond cookie or sherbet -- but all they had was vanilla ice cream. It was OK. We would have preferred cookies. (I think dessert is mostly unnecessary with a Chinese dinner.) Like other posters, I want very much to support small family-run businesses. The area has several very good such places which we go to regularly. Also, I think Golden Dragon has suffered in recent years from competition at the TJ Buffet across the street -- which offers an all-you-can eat lunch for $5.50. The quality is not great, but it is sure cheap. However, I would pay for quality food -- just not 40% more than other family Chinese eateries. The price is wildly out of line with the quality here. Overall: WARNING, UNETHICAL MANAGEMENT. They do not honor paid Living Social vouchers. Customer Service: 1 star. The waitress was fine. The 1 star is for the inept management. I purchased a LivingSocial promotion of pay $20, get $30. The promotional value expired, but the paid value doesn't expire for 5 years. I notified the man at the counter and the waitress, and they had no issue. As I went to pay, the man at the counter called a lady (I'm assuming the owner) to tell her about the voucher. After 5 minutes of him arguing with her, he put me on the phone to talk to the lady. She said that the voucher was expired and that I could not use any of it. The voucher clearly states the paid value doesn't expire until 2019. Again, she was on the phone arguing with me, which is crazy. Finally they gave me the $20 off, but acted like they were doing me a favor. Pricing: 2 stars: The sesame chicken entree was $13.95, which is the most I've ever paid. Food: 4 stars. I really want this place to succeed because it is an independent, local business located in an area desperate for good food. So I'll say: the interior looked cozy and clean and my take-out order arrived promptly. Sadly, it felt like a rip-off. $12 for a shrimp and vegetable noodle dish that contained cold, flavorless noodles (no seasoning or sauce at all) with a mere trace of vegetables and a handful of tiny shrimp. Very sad. I'm surprised that they would cut corners in an neighborhood where local people live, work, and shop routinely. Reputation is what pays the bills for restaurants. You can put in the effort and provide good food to win folks as loyal customers for the long haul, or you make an extra buck on the first sale but lose your customer base for good. read more

From the outside you'd think its a generic type of an American style Chinese food. A fews ago I'd say this is true. Now it has new life. Yes there is the Americanized style Chinese food, good but not great but with a chef who worked for Li Wah downtown there is now traditional Style southern Chinese food on the East Side. Finally Basically like most Asian food places, you'll have to ask for off menu items. The OTHER menu has whole lot of other dishes from steamed/pan seared fishes, Hong Kong Style wonton noodle soups to Moi Choi Kow Yuk "mandarine: Mei Cai Kao Rou" ( Triple layed pork over chinese mustard greens.) You can also request for special items if you know what you want. There are other authentic Chinese places on the Eastside but this one is the only southern style place. Personally I like this place for Chinese food on the Eastside. Being Asian American, I guess I am more prone to Asian flavors...no brainer right? =) Seriously go here and order the traditional Chinese food. read more

The Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant is located right across the street from the China Buffet. It's a little more of a high-end restaurant, with menus that come in the neat little menu folders. They have a full bar and a menu full of alcoholic and nonalcoholic treat beverages; Pina Coladas and Daiquiris. I got the China Sea ($3.95) and it was so very good! It took me the length of the entire meal to finish it and it was delicious and fruity. The food comes out looking beautiful. Good American Chinese food. Good portions. Service is not bad. Try the hofun. One of the best General TSO's Chicken, you can actually tell that is white meat chicken breast. The hot and sour soup is good, That is one of my standards for Chinese places. The mu-shu is very good. Egg rolls are the bomb, so is the American wonton soup. Very consistent place.
