Typical small-town Chin-Amer fare, not memorable, but not bad either. Very generous with fresh vegs, and decent use of spices--that can be absent in these farming communities. It seemed to be run by an Hispanic family, which is not unusual if you are familiar with Othello, WA. As stated by the late Anthony Bourdain, Mex chefs are the most versatile on the planet, and can duplicate any type of cuisine. Wifey wanted Asian, and this is the only game in town for that. Good Food @ Golden Fountain in Othello, WA. ! First time patrons on a Tuesday for an early dinner. Awkward start, standing at the small entrance area with others until servers appeared to guide us to a nearby booth. Booths were comfortable enough. Minimal wait time to order. Spring rolls were not my 'cup of tea', but 5 of 6 were eaten between the both of us. The two entrees we ordered to share were tasty and we would enjoy them again. The stand outs of our meal included lots of fresh veggies in the King Pao Chicken and tender thin sliced pork in the Pork Chow Mein, the noodles were cooked perfectly. Service was not as great as our dinner. We felt forgotten after the food was served and had to wait longer than we wanted when we were ready to pay and leave. If I could give zero stars I would. I've never been more ashamed of customer service in my life ( and I've worked customer service. ) My family & I came here for a late lunch early dinner we were greeted in a friendly manner and seated quickly. We all agreed on the family meal #A. & the orange chicken we were informed about the spice levels and ordered mild. We received 2 of the egg drop which we had no issue with since only 2 people wanted. I took one bite of the soup and a few minutes later had a reaction ( no gallbladder) which I had to run to the ladies room. Once I was back at the table the food had arrived to which I noticed the orange chicken was red not orange which I knew wouldn't be what I would consider mild. My aunt proceeded to inform the waitress that Noone (other that our teenager which didn'tlike it ) of at the table could eat the orange chicken due to the spice level. The waitress told us that this was the wild orange chicken & that once we had a bite of the food we couldn't exchange it for anything else. She even called her supervisor over which told us its what the chef made and didn't even offer to resolve the issue. Im very disappointed that we had to pay for an item we couldn't eat. The food was pretty good, kind of on the expensive side, but the portion sizes are pretty big. Except there was shrimp mixed in with my boyfriend's pork, and he's very allergic to shellfish, thankfully he did not have a reaction. The service was not anything special. But the place itself.... We arrived were seated rather rudely Menus were on the table and when we opened them everything was crossed out. They had no combination plates available only family style with a minimum of 4 orders. Where to start: first of all, if you're looking for Chinese food that's so authentic that you can't even read the menu unless you know Mandarin, that's not this place. However - If you like "Chinese-American" fusion, this is a wonderful nosh spot in Othello, WA. First of all, it's pretty economical - the lunch specials range from about 5 and a half to somewhere in the 7 dollar range... and you get a LOT of food. Seriously, do yourself a favor, and just ask for a to-go box right up front, and then when you get your overflowing platter, just load half of it into the box straight up. Once that's done, you'll be left with (in my wife's case) a platter that's still full of crispy sweet-and-sour chicken, where the chicken pieces audibly crunch from across the table, and the red sauce is pretty standard. My mother-in-law had the almond chicken special, and the almond sauce was a rich deep brown. I've had it before; a good flavor and a very generous portion. I had the curry beef lunch special; (a picture is here at http://imgur.com/daEO3.jpg) it was $6.95 if I remember correctly. I asked for it to be very hot; when it came, it was exactly that: piping hot. It had obviously come *right* out of the wok, and it was very hot. NOT spicy, mind you - that's what I had been hoping for - but hot. The beef was very tender, the curry sauce quite mild... but the waitress brought me some chili sauce on the side to kick it up a few notches. I've taken one of my kids here on a previous occasion, and it was a hit with the younger set as well. Dinner service was a bit slow on the evening I went, but lunch service was very fast, with our soup getting to the table within 2 minutes of placing our order. Boy, did this place exceed my expectations! I was surprised to find it's almost identical to my fav. Chinese place in Kennewick. I mean, IDENTICAL, right down to the to-go menus (even use same color paper and ship design on the front). Since I live in the Tri Cities and work in Othello, this is good news for me. Love the sweet and sour chicken, lemon chicken, pork fried rice, spring rolls, BBQ pork, etc. It's all good. And the portion sizes are huge. So, for $9, you can have two big meals. Well, there's sure IS better Chinese food in the Tri Cities! Our soup was delicious, but alas like warm, as were the greasy noodles we were served later. We specifically asked about one of the meal menu options, since we have small appetites and are traveling. I said "so if we order one of these meals that will service two people or more". She said it would. When we got our bill we paid for TWO of those meals, an untouched dish of rice, 1/2 a dish of noodles stayed behind. We did take 3/4 of the sweet & sour mystery meat and a few pieces of bbq pork. That food will likely be fed to the dogs. To pay twice as much for food we did not want and tried not to order is disappointing. The food over all was good. Typical Chinese/American food. A little greasy, but fits the bill for eating out or takeout. If I gave stars based on the relativity of Chinese food in Othello it would get a 4 -star. But I'm going to try and judge it based on a my relative experience. I recommend this restaurant, if I'm driving home and picking up dinner, this is the place. They definitely live my the motto, "More is better." The quality is where I need it, but not life-changing. The quantity is above average for sure, and that is nice - good value. If you are hungry for soup - order the War-wonton soup, it's a man-killer. I'm not sure what's going on with their deep fryer, but everything that is deep fried is very greasy and doesn't sit in the stomach well. The house fried rice is super delicious, as is the house yakisoba. Don't miss the sizzling anything. The chicken, beef, pork you can't go wrong with this dish. I haven't tried the breaded foods because they aren't gluten free, but my family liked the sweet sour pork. Their egg flower soup and hot n sour soup are pretty darn good too. My only problem is the service is slow and I always have a problem ordering on the phone because the lady has a heavy Asian accent. My dog was hesitant to eat some bland noodles. The rice was good, but its white rice. I asked for noodles, and I got noodles. Plain noodles, no sauce or seasoning, in water in a container. I've had a lot of Chinese food in probably 10 different states. This is the only one that wasn't good. Great food (SOOOOOO much food for $8-9--whoa), cheap. My only real complaints are relatively small--they did not have seating for parties of more than 4 except in this sunroom like area that was really hot even though they had fans; I asked the server for more napkins since there were 3 kids in our party and she never brought them; and we had to ask for chop sticks, randomly enough.
