Had been going here off and on for years. My parents trust this guy for some reason but he's not the best. I don't doubt for one second he does good work but he's taken advantage of me and my family for years. I'm not the most knowledgeable and he sure doesn't let me forget that. Condescending commentary , sarcastic and disrespectful questions about the car or situation and ultimately no sincere relationship even after years of business. I got a new used car and took it to him for a check and he charged me $269... to do what exactly I'm not sure because not even a month later I find out that the alternator needs to be replaced. Took car in for grinding noise at starting, diagnosed as Tuning chain, picked up car after repair, noise still there during starting. Took it back months later to see if could fix the noise. When I went to pick up the car, I received a very demeaning lecture, that my oil needed changed "ingnorant people who doent change their oil...." Stated that he didnt find the noise problem, but he changed my oil, charged me $329 for the oil change. Got in the car started it up and there is the grinding noise. Will not use this guy again, somethings has changed at this garage, used to be pretty good. The owner was very helpful and gave me some good guidance on future services for my car. I called a few different places about cost estimates and the team here beat all other estimates. Total cost was ~$400-500 for 4 brake pads + labor. Estimate from Chevy was ~$600-$700 (unknown what final cost would be). Estimate from Big-O was ~$1600 (absurd). read more

This place is a hole in the wall. Don't let that fool you. Every service I get here is top notch. My a/c had stopped working. I called & asked could he help me find new headlights as well? Bring it in, leave it, we'll see what we can do. A few rat chewed wires replaced, topped up refrigerant, polished headlights and replaced bulbs PLUS he caught the missing bolt on my battery and fixed it for me. No more engine shudders at stop lights. He keeps my old car going for a fair price. The biggest bonus is: if he works 1/2 an hour, he charges 1/2 an hour. Doesn't upcharge and doesn't pussyfoot or dance around. Gives me a clear explanation of what's happening with my engine. He also makes sure to let me know how to prevent future issues, when possible. The owner is pretty hilarious. I honestly would go back because of his attitude. He is straight to the point and sassy. He also let me bring my own parts which is nice. Even though he couldn't fix something on my steering wheel, he at least found that I could take it to the dealership since the issue was recalled. I went to Golden Gate auto repair based on YELP reviews. My car needed spark plugs replaced. The owner of the shop complained about how difficult it was to change the spark plug on a Prius. Claimed to have fixed the problem, I drove off feeling relieved. I then started to feel my motor shaking! I brought it up and he said to me, "nothing wrong with your car, it's a hiccup, it happens." He assured me that it was safe to drive. My motor would shake from time to time. Long story short, I think I did internal damage to my engine, due to bad advice and unable to diagnose the problem. read more

Called in and asked to have a a fuel filter replaced on my truck. Scheduled for next morning, dropped off truck at 7:30am. They called at 2:00pm that they wouldn't be able to complete the job because my truck was to big for the lift. I asked if they could go under the truck on a creeper, the response was they didn't want to. I told them I would be there in two hours to get the truck because I had been called into work. When I arrived the truck was parked out front with the windows down and keys in the ignition. Anyone could have climbed in at drove off. I asked the old guy who answers the phone again why they couldn't change the filter and he said truck was to big, I asked if they could go under the truck and he rambled about something unrelated. I inquired about having my DRL (Daylight Running lights option) Turned off on my VW . This is the response that I got: "there is no magic tool for anything, need to be diagnosed the problem and fix it. Diagnostic fee $150 for 1-1/2 hrs.if needed." Huh. Great business to support! This morning we were driving from SF to Tahoe and someone had dropped a bunch of rice bags on I-80. We couldn't avoid running over them and discovered a few minutes later that several of the bags had become entangled in our axles. This was at 7:15am so first off, we're so thankful this place was open that early. Then after explaining the problem, we waited about 30 minutes for them to finish with other customers. It took 45 minutes for them to put our F150 up and clear up the mess of bags. We're back on the road at 9am and still able to get to the PCT trailhead to start our backpacking trip only an hour behind our crew. The total charge was just $35! We're so appreciative! I understand this technology is difficult for someone without a lot of brain power to comprehend so it really isn't too surprising that a request for a quote through Yelp would be hard to understand. Anyways I would suggest taking your vehicles anywhere else and perhaps Matt correct his attitude and realize customer relations are an integral part of running a successful business. He was good until I had real problem. I went to him for fast oil changes. He'd be done in 10 min, and charged $65 for synthetic. However, two years ago my car stopped moving because the cylinders had misfires. He had to rebuild the whole engine. It took him a few weeks to get it done. $2500. However, when I started driving it made some kind of squeaky sound came on when I stepped on the gas. So I had to tell him to fix it. Another week had passed and i was happy that the sound went away. I was living in Sacramento at the time, and needed the ac the next day. I turned it on but only warm air was coming out. I had to bring it back but he explained that I use it a lot, but offered to recharge it. I actually only used my ac when i gets in the 90s. Lately I used it but how can it just suddenly not work. A week later he said he couldn't do anything about it. This whole time I was thinking, "ok maybe I have to live without ac in order to have my cylinders not explode on me." Absurd, but I have just dealt with it for a few years and decided not to go back to him again because: (1) it takes him a long time to fix a problem but may create another problem. (2) HE IS NOT PLEASANT TO DEAL WITH. Cantankerous man! I was only patient with him because he's doing me a service. Fast forward I asked my current mechanic to fix my ac. He did a diagnostic and found out that my compressor had been smashed when he looked under the car. The compressor is tucked in behind my engine and is really hard to just break, he explained. The compressor in itself was $900 new and hard to find for my car. I'm not pointing fingers, but I'm pretty sure Matt, if he was so experienced, could have figured that since it could be visibly seen from under the car. Plus, he just was working on my engine. Matt will get the job done, but doesn't strive for excellence. He'll make it work but won't do a test run and just let the customer settle, while he blames the customer. read more
