Located in the older part of Fairfield and not huge, but definitely would pass if you don't pay attention to the side street it's on. Go here for your foreign cars. They are worth every Penny time and dime. My mother in law found this place through my older relative. She told me you have to meet these guys who have been doing an amazing job with the BMW X5 D. She isn't easy to appease or please so I was happy to hear she liked them a lot. The car has been going through it like all European vehicles or German cars that come to the states. The diesel version of X5 is amazing car and it's worth it but not worth it. We got a check engine light on and it's been a pain trying to get it to pass smog and the guys here are awesome for trying to educate and help my in-law with getting the car ready but James was honest and said he wants to fix it right and the first time and not have her coming back and forth and he wants to give the best service and support. Love the service we get for our old BMW X5. As everyone knows, owning a 16 year old German car comes with constant upkeep and maintenance that can be super pricey at times. Thought I was in for a wallet beat down of a repair when coolant started spraying under the hood, was sure it would cost me hundreds, turned out it was a little broken fitting that didn't cost much to fix at all. Took my Mercedes to a shop in Redding & paid $4600 for them to "fix" it. They didn't have much experience with Mercedes. Well they broke my harmonic balancer and I had to come out of pocket for it. I was very concerned about having another shop screw me over and was nervous about using this shop. But my experience with them was excellent! They ordered my part and installed it the same day. I didnt have to wait a whole week for it to get fixed! Fast service and excellent customer service. The mechanics were very friendly and seemed like very honest trustworthy people. I will definitely use them again in the future if I ever need work done on my car. read more

Hands down, the best servicing shop for cars. These guys are completely honest and reliable. To the guy who put a 1 star review about your oil change costing $130, yeah that's cheap for a German Car "oil change". When I switched from Hyundai to Mercedes, I couldn't go to the $30 places anymore as they wouldn't do the diagnostic stuff or other specific tests and potential filter changes. The manual tells you to take it to a Mercedes Benz dealership (oil changes are categorised as A Service or B Service and the car's computer knows what's due and when the shop does it). MB stealerships charge $250+ for your $130 "oil change". Anyhow, I'm very happy with my 2 services so far here and look forward to getting a repair on a mirror soon! read more

My experience here was purely positive. They were extremely helpful. I had blown the engine on my '98 Audi. Although they could have led me on with bad diagnoses and expensive tests, they made the wise suggestion to scrap it and move on. They gave me the number of the scrappers and let me keep the car there a few day while I figured out my plan. I observed several other conversations where they actually advised customers against repairs, if the customer wouldn't actually benefit. They were extremely nice to me while I was stranded there with my baby. They offered me water to drink, a place to relax and were generally great to speak with. Thanks, guys! read more

My GF's Jetta has been having numerous problems the past six months or so. After multiple trips and a lot of money at the VW dealership, we decided to try a smaller, privately owned shop. Paul, the owner at German Car Service, is very friendly and knowledgeable when it comes to German cars. The car was dropped off on Saturday morning, and ready by lunchtime Monday (shop is open until 12 on Saturdays and closed on Sundays). He was able to diagnose and repair a misfire that the car has been suffering (and the dealership missed) over the weekend. My only complaint is his labor rate for small jobs. I asked him about an oil change, and he said it would be $120! $120 is the shop's hourly rate, so I think that's what he based his price on. However, on larger repairs/maintenance, I think German Car Service is fairly priced. read more

As a do it yourself kind of guy: James has been super happy to do just about every bushing swap on my build, and at a very reasonable rate. In fact, after all my suspension bushings had been done, I upgraded my FLCAs and of course those needed delrin pieces as well. When I returned with the new pieces he knew what was up right when I walked in. He also rode with me in my car at no charge to try and diagnose a noise my rear end was making intermittently. He had some very good suggestions for me to look into since (as mentioned at the start of this review) I generally do my own work. So glad to find a mechanic shop with an owner who is willing to do the stuff I don't have tools for at home! I trust him and his crew with whatever I need done. read more

I took my 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara to German Car Repair for the issue of my car shutting off every time i applied the brakes to stop when driving with the air conditioning on. The reason for the 5 stars is because it was such a relief to have my air fixed after being disappointed by another car service who didnt even try. My experience here was negative. For check engine light, they charged me $ 180 only for diagnostics without trying to do anything about it, and rather, they gave me a reports saying " Need more time " . I am not sure even if that's legal to write that in a report. I had a noise when I push the brakes, they charged me $ 240.00 to tell me that the bearings need to be changed. I took the car to the Audi dealership in Concord and they confirmed that the bearings are fine and probably will never need to be changed. Jackie was very rude over the phone and in person. James was kind enough to drive me to work in the morning and drop my car at work for me, and hence the one star. will not be back and I advise everybody to avoid this place. read more

Not a fan. My family has been taking our German car's there for a while. A BMW and VW. and long story short the work and quality of the work is below par, For example the VW is back in today to fix an issue they "fixed". These guys are also dishonest. I wouldn't go out on a limb and call them liars but they never finish in a timely fashion. constantly telling us when we drop the car's off that it will by done by a certain time and when they fail to finish on time like always they blame the problem on ups shipping or saying they were booked when there was hardly any other vehicles in their bay, I've had to reschedule plans because of them on more than one occasion and was also late to work so thanks guys. Pleased! Same day service on a pretty labor-intensive water pump replacement. Jackie is the service manager, who I found to be very personable. Didn't know about the $180 diagnostic fee until I took the car in, which is why only 4 stars. I don't like surprises. The $'s went toward the repair, which I knew I needed, so no biggie. Kept the old pump to show me the damage. Price was better than I had expected. When does that happen? After I left the shop, I was horrified to discover that I'd left my pricey laptop in their office! Luckily, James the technician, was still there after hours, found it and held it for me until I went back. Whew! Honesty and good customer service go a long way with me. After moving from San Francisco, I was lucky to find these guys to service my Mercedes. Fair prices and they don't sell unneeded services like the Mercedes dealer.
