Noticed the reviews and had driven by this place for years. Almost made a mistake and was about to go to China Chef across the street until I realized Golden Gate is on the west side of Harvard over by Southern Agriculture. Plenty of parking close. It's a pretty small place with several two tops and a long table. I went to the counter to order but I saw some customers come in and sit right down. Brandon (owner?) was very friendly and took by order. They have a lunch special for $5.99 which I ordered along with iced tea. Brandon brought it right out. It was a LOT of food, all of it good. Sweet & Sour pork, chicken, veggies, fried rice, egg rolls and an onion ring. Several of the customers who came in after me were greeted by name. My meal came to $10.25 which is about right for a good meal. Much cheaper if I'd gone with water. Glad I finally made it here. Can't believe it took me so long. read more

My husband & I did carry-out at the Golden Gate. We had difficulty finding the place since it is very small & in a small shopping center. We had called in our order. The food was still heat hot when we arrived home. We ordered the Special dinner of sweet & sour pork, fried rice, fried chicken breast, a mixture of chicken with carrots, onions, cabbage, zucchini & a sauce. A mini egg roll & 2 fried onion rings were included. The chicken was tender & vegetables were crisp-tender. The batter deep-fried chicken breast, pork & onions rings were tough & soggy, not completely cooked batter. There was no flavor seasoning to any of the food, so we had to liberally used soy sauce & sweet and sour sauce on all of it. The sauce was mainly sweet. We are disappointed as we were hoping this would be our go-to Asian place. Other than Panda Express (which can be iffy at times), we have yet to find a good Asian eating place. read more

Golden Gate is my favorite "American Chinese" restaurant in Tulsa! They offer all the standard menu items you'd expect to find. The portions are absolutely huge, plenty for 2-3 people to share. In my opinion, the crab rangoons are the star of the menu. They are massive and stuffed full of oozy sweet cream cheese. The egg drop soup is delicious and has big chunks of chicken in it. I like the triple delight (shrimp, chicken, and beef). My husband loves the lo mein. The owners are so sweet and friendly. Very unimpressed. We ordered takeout: orange chicken which the only side option was fried rice, egg drop soup, and spring rolls. When we got home, we discovered that the orange chicken and the sauce were separate. This was because it was NOT orange chicken. The breading was heavily starched to where we could dust the excess off, the sauce was sugar water with a few oranges and canned mushrooms in it. It was not a thick "coating" sauce, it was like a soup. The fried rice was way overcooked, gummy, and had no veggies or flavor. The egg drop soup had way too much thickener in it that made it almost chewy. There were shreds of chicken, which egg drop soup is not supposed to have chicken and I'm glad I'm no longer vegetarian or I would have not had lunch today. The egg rolls were okay, they were a frozen, pre-made egg roll that actually had flavor compared to the other foods. I asked for soy sauce she said she put it in the bag, there was none. She also said she put some "noodles" in the bag for me since they offer no side items. I was excited about this however the noodles were WAY over cooked, gooey, and had no flavor. This is NOT authentic Chinese food, not good recipes, and lacked flavor and proper prep. The prices were the most expensive prices I have ever seen at a Chinese restaurant and Unfortunately I will not be returning. read more

This is my friend's absolute favorite restaurant! I had the pleasure of going with her one day and I am still pleased with our lunch. The all you can eat option is wonderful! But I was genuinely stuffed after one plate!! The food was simple and delicious, and the owner is super friendly. Second time I've had Golden Gate. First was really good, this second time was just terrible and over priced. Don't like the breaded chicken substitute they use instead of chicken chin is like other Chinese restaurants use. The eggrolls are extremely greasy and the food was flavorless. I hesitate to write this, because it's always felt like a little secret that only a few of us knew. That having been said, I can say, without a doubt, this is the best Chinese you will find in Tulsa. Yes, it looks like it hasn't been changed in 25 years. Yes, it needs a good scrub down. No, there is no public bathroom. But the food... Ahhhh, the food is so damn good! Let me tell you a short story. At my last job, we always had "Chinese Friday", which could mean as few as four of us or as many as twenty would head to a local Chinese buffet for lunch. Well, after getting tired of the Royal Dragons and other watered down buffets, I suggested Golden Gate. Now, one of my friends is a neat freak and I knew he would trip just walking into this place. Once I convinced him that if I eat here, it's OK, he settled down. The buffet here is a little different than most. You order and they basically bring you out soup and a plate of a little bit of everything. Sweet and sour pork, eggroll (really more of a spring roll - Order a side of Egg Rolls, they freaking rock), rice, garlic chicken, Chow Mein, and more. If you want more of something, they'll bring it to you. Let me just say this. The Egg Drop Soup is to die for. I mean it. Last meal type of soup. It's addictive. So back to my former work place. There is now only one place they go on Fridays for lunch. Golden Gate. If you go on a Friday around 12:30 and you see a table of 8 to 10, tell them Jeff said hello. And a little expensive too, I paid 13 for an egg roll and kung pao chicken. Was it worth it? Considering I stuffed myself silly, got a to-go box, and munched on it 3 more times, why yes, yes it was worth it. the egg roll is huge, like a small burrito. The kung pao chicken had massive amounts of chicken in it, like, chicken tender sized chicken. This place has become my husband and I's go-to Chinese place! We always get the Sweet and Sour Chicken dinner and share it. We add 2 egg rolls and 2 cups of egg drop soup. Their egg rolls are made with beef and veggies they are really good! The egg drop soup is definitely the best I've had in town! It has chicken in it and it's just sooo good! We ordered on a Monday this last time and they said that the Sweet and Sour Chicken is the Monday special so you get the larger serving for the same price as the normal serving. We ordered egg rolls, chicken chow mein, and hot and sour soup. The egg rolls were large. I apologize but I thought they were disgusting. They were still very doughy inside because of how large they were. The chow mein was literally lettuce and chicken with a little bit of a sauce on top of it. I was told that this is the traditional way to cook chow mein, which is probably true. But after ordering it from so many other places and it coming with noodles and chicken and vegetables, that's how I'm used to getting it. The hot and sour soup was creamy, which is also something that I'm not used to. So obviously I did not care for it either. Decided to go out on a limb and try this hole in the wall. We got two egg rolls and an order of sweet and sour chicken and Kung pow beef. When we were seated its clear this place has been here for over 30 years. The egg rolls were larger than other Chinese places I'm normally used to going to. Both dinners that we ordered were plenty of food. My wife said her sweet and sour chicken was standard and on par with other Chinese places. The Kung Pow Beef was fantastic, and i would recommend it to anyone visiting. Easily the best attribute about the place are the man and woman that own the restaurant. He was extremely friendly, remembered people who had come in before, and polite. It seems the community is extremely loyal to him and his little shop and I dont blame them. read more

We eat here pretty often. Family owned, wonderful home style Chinese food served with a smile. If fast is what your after go somewhere else, this is a real made to order meal. The owner is an awesome guy and the service is always great. The dining space is small so carryout might be a better option when it gets busy in there. My review is going to be somewhat limited because my husband and I come here for one thing, and one thing only: The EGG ROLLS. It's a small, cramped hole in the wall kind of dive, but this restaurant serves up what I can only describe as the most heavenly, magical egg roll experience I've ever had. I've been all over the world, but these egg rolls are IT for me. I don't eat their buffet food, but I've had their vegetable lo mein and their General Tso's chicken, which are also solid. But really...I'm in it for the egg rolls. Just one is big enough for a meal. The family that owns this place is always very friendly, and they remember me as the crazy lady who orders a ton of egg rolls to go every so often.
