Just got fitted for irons today, after the whole process I really wish I went here first! JEFF IS AMAZING. Initially went to club champion in Santa Monica for a full bag fitting. He said they were the Ferrari of club fitters. "Master Fitter" had me hit my 7 iron and then had me hit different 6 irons. He ran the numbers on the "optimizer" and said I could only get 10 yards more from my 7 iron and that the club was doing its job. Stopped the iron fitting there and went to driver. Today, Jeff had me warm up, casually asking about my game, usual ball flight etc. He explained to me the potential causes of my misses. One of the reasons being, the club was too light. He gave me a lot of really priceless swing tips. We worked on with different shafts and heads... he explained the process and connected it to my swing. He put stickers on the face to show where I was hitting the ball. He always reviewed distance trends and took in to account the flight of my misses. Thankfully I was able to execute his tips and the average carry of my 7 iron was amazing. On course, my TOTAL distance would be 120. After Jeff's club and swing magic, my CARRY was 130. Total sometimes 140-150. So excited to get my new set of irons. My only regret is I didn't come here first. I'll be coming back here for woods and have him check with driver I got from. Club champion. I really wish I went here first. Iron fitting was $150 but the swing tips alone I feel was so much more. Will be telling everyone to come here. I've been here a few times before for miscellaneous purchases and repairs, and all experiences so far were fine. Last week I had decided to pull the trigger and try getting an iron fitting after feeling like I've been getting a bit more consistent as a golfer, and I just gotta say, Jeff is an excellent fitter. The experience was casual and friendly, but still very professional and educational. He'd taken the time to analyze my metrics and let me know what aspects of my swing needed work and how the fitting would benefit me short and long term. There was no pressure to buy equipment from the store, and he even let me know the pros and cons of parting out what I would want. I'll definitely be coming back later for woods/driver fittings, and potentially even wedge fittings if possible. read more

I was recommended to Golden Golf Mart by my cousin, who couldn't stop raving about Jeff Sy--so I finally decided to check it out for myself. I called about a week ahead to schedule an iron fitting with Jeff. Heads up: his schedule fills up quick (for good reason), so definitely book early if you want a spot. As a beginner golfer, I was on the fence about getting fit. I had just bought a brand new set of irons without any kind of fitting and kept hearing mixed opinions--some people say fittings are a waste for beginners, others say it's the best time to get one. I figured it couldn't hurt to get everything checked and make sure my gear matched my swing. From the moment I walked in, Jeff was super friendly and welcoming. He brought me to the back fitting area and had me warm up with my current setup. Right away, he noticed what needed tweaking. I'd originally been told to use regular shafts as a beginner, but after watching me hit a few, Jeff recommended stiff shafts instead. I tried a few options and ended up going with the KBS Tour 120g stiff shafts--they gave me the most consistent ball flight and tightest dispersion. What I really appreciated was how Jeff didn't just run me through numbers--he also gave me tips on my swing, helped me understand what we were looking for, and just made the whole experience comfortable and enjoyable. We joked around, had some good small talk, and the whole session flew by. We even had some time left over, so he threw in a quick golf ball fitting too. I tested a few and we landed on the TaylorMade TP5x and Srixon Z-Star Diamond. In the end, we made a few key changes: a slightly flatter lie angle, a small adjustment in club length, and the switch to a stiffer shaft. Nothing drastic, but enough to make a big difference in consistency and feel. The whole fitting lasted around 90 minutes and cost $150. I never got a club fitting before and wanted to get dialed in to see what irons I should get, I asked some friends who are scratch golfers and a majority of them all told me to go see Jeff Sy at Golden Golf. I booked a session and I have to say it was an awesome experience, Jeff is super knowledgable and very patient. We tested multiple shaft flexes, weights and heads. Along the way he gave me some tips on my swing, explained the mechanics of the shaft and the importance of picking the right ball to play. He is straight forward and direct which I like, if you are sensitive and get your feelings hurt easily then I wouldn't recommend seeing him. Located on the main road in San Gabriel this golf shop has street parking as well as it's own small front parking lot with space for 5-7 cars. I went in to take a look at their golf clubs and clothes. I saw that there was a machine for testing. No one was there to help in the back so I used it to practice my swing only for one of the workers to come yell at me and tell me it's not for use and only used exclusively for testing and I needed supervision. Rather than helping me, he yelled at me and then walked away. Didn't want to stay any longer after that. There was no sign or anyone by the machine to explain this. I've been to a number of stores and they were always open for customers to use. It was my fault for assuming, that it was open for use but rather than helping me he decided to tell me off and then walk away. Could be good competitive deals but what's the point when they won't take the time to understand what I came in for and help me find the best fit. 2 stars because it did look promising but with customer service like that you're better off talking to someone at dick's sporting goods. read more

I've never felt more uncomfortable in a store. Did not feel welcomed. Been a long time since I've felt anything was racially motivated against me. They definitely don't see many Latinos from the reaction I got. Grandfather runs the store, his two grandson's were on the floor. This is my first fitting I've ever done and had an irons fitting with Jeff. I had taken a single lesson from Stephen Knittle and he recommended Jeff as a fitter when I get my swing becomes more consistent. That was over a year ago, but I kept this place bookmarked. My current clubs are the JPX 921 Hot Metal irons with True Temper's Elevate MPH 95 stiff shafts. I carry my 7i about 155-160 yds. I came a little earlier than my scheduled time and Jeff allowed me to warm up a bit at the fitting area. He first asked me what brought me in to get a fitting so just shared my golf experience, how often I play a round, my natural 'fade', and what my coach and I have been working on (fixing my over the top swing). I told him I've been drawing the ball more recently so my consistency is off and hope it doesn't effect the fitting. He basically told me not to worry and we carried on with the fitting. I thought I was just going to swing a lot and get a club head/shaft recommendation, but I actually learned a lot throughout the fitting. Jeff gave me some swing tips that improved my ball striking and actually added some yards. During the fitting he told me that my natural ball flight should be a draw based on the swing data. So my right 'misses' during my rounds is probably my new natural ball flight from what my coach and I have been working on. My 7i carry basically jumped to like 160-165 yds. Throughout the fitting as we were swapping out the shafts and club heads. My ball flight dispersion got increasingly tighter, but sacrificed some distance. My good misses (push cut) were just barely off the green. Came for what I thought would be a simple iron fitting, but Jeff is so resourceful that I learned a lot of things I didn't expect. I had swing thoughts and other ideas I read from the internet and he debunked the wrong ones and explained the common misconceptions of them. Towards the end of the fitting, Jeff provided me his recommendations and close substitutes just in case I had any bias towards specific golf brands. Never did I get a feeling that Jeff was doing a sales pitch to make my buy the most expensive equipment. At the end, he said I was free to take a picture of the shafts and club heads we used while he goes and writes down the recommended specs. I asked him if the ball I played (Vice Pro) was okay for my swing and said it was cool and also recommended alternatives for specific ball flights. He handed me a piece of paper with his recommendations, I paid my fitting at the front desk, we thanked each other, he said to call him if I have any other questions and I was out. The shaft he recommended to me was the (KBS C-Taper Lite-Stiff) and he wrote down his #1 (Mizuno JPX Forged) and #2 (Srixon ZXi5) recommendation for the club head with a 2 degree flat bend. EXTRA: Soon as I left, I texted some of my buddies who have done fittings before, but have contemplated doing another one. They asked if I did a full bag, and I said it was just irons. Told them Jeff explained to me that a full bag fitting would take hours and if place offer a full bag fitting for 1 hour, its not going to be great. They've previously had fittings at Roger Dunn and GolfTec. So far, I think 2 of them may be interested in checking out Jeff sometime in the future. read more

I picked up golf 18 months ago and bought my first brand new driver, irons, and hybrids here. Unfortunately, I've had nothing but mediocre to horrible experiences at this store. In August, I paid $150 for an iron fitting and made the mistake of telling Jeff that I wasn't looking to buy new clubs, just curious about what changes we could make to my TaylorMade P790s to fit my swing style. Jeff took one of my clubs to the back and returned claiming they were fake because of the color and various other reasons. However, at a TaylorMade fitting two weeks later, the fitter immediately confirmed they were real. Since this wasn't leading to a sale, he spent the rest of the session criticizing my golf swing, mostly using his phone and walking around. It was a very awkward 90 minutes. Just last week, I had Jeff make an adapter change on a Ventus Velocore+ shaft that was only 30 days old and cost me $350+ directly from the manufacturer. I brought my own adapter, but they said they couldn't install it due to liability concerns and charged me $35 for the adapter change and another $35 for a new adapter. The next day, excited to try my new driver head, I went straight to the range, and after the first full swing, the shaft broke exactly where the adapter was installed, and the driver head flew out onto the range. I brought it back within the hour, and Jeff condescendingly told me it wasn't their fault, it could have been the person that installed the first adapter, and there was nothing they needed to do to resolve the issue. Despite the poor customer service and limited inventory, I wanted to like this store because the next closest golf shop is 30 minutes away. I thought my experiences were flukes since this place has great Yelp reviews. After the fitting issue, I decided I would only go there for service work, but that was a mistake because now my driver shaft is trashed. read more

My case/issues abt the same as one of the shoppers who has reviewed. I brought my P790 clubs to to some MOD. The guy up front refused and returned my clubs immediately said "my clubs were counterfeit" and start mention a tons of thing abt my Clubs I just feel like he might have a bad day. And i just just got lucky to meet him in that mood. That so ridiculous. I ordered directly from TM site. How come it is counterfeit?!! I really like to take my orde invoice from TM to smash on his face. I won't go back. Even how good the reviews are. He might not know how to talk to people. Always been a skeptic of fittings. Like all of the other reviews, Jeff is the man. He knows his stuff and doesn't make you feel bad about yourself and your messed up swing habits. Jeff is a very knowledgeable fitter who can guide you down the right route. Never in my life have I thought about hitting blades until he walked me down that road. I was a little hesitant at first thinking it might not be a beneficial move for me. Little did I know that 'Game Improvement' irons are no longer improving my game but instead is hindering my growth by hiding my swing faults. It's not about distance anymore, it's able better center strikes. Jeff's exact words were 'Pain is good, Pain makes you learn' A little more than 2 months into playing the skinny forge clubs that he fitted me in, I realized that what he was telling me was true all along. No pain, no gain!! With additional golf instructions I got thru my swing coach, everything is looking different than just a few months ago. While I surely lost a little bit of distance in the most extreme instances, what I gained much more accuracy in shot dispersion. Something that the master fitter has foreseen in his vision. As I mentioned to him I've had previous experience when I got fitted for my driver at a different store and it was nothing like how he helped me in my fitting for irons! I was patiently waiting for them to come out of the Covid lockdown and as soon as they did I booked a fitting with Jeff Sy the top ranked club fitter who works there. I was pretty sure I needed a new driver because my old out-of-the-barrel-special from Roger Dunn or Play it Again (can't remember which) just wasn't cutting it anymore. Jeff has the full Foresight system and though I was a little bit leery of hitting indoors into a net as a way to evaluate what I needed his expertise in reading the data put me at ease. My old driver was super heavy, basically garbage. He let me hit lots of balls with my driver as a reference point then several samples and suggestions that he thought would help. I mean a lot of balls, basically a large bucket, until I felt comfortable with where things were going. We settled on a Titleist TSi3 with a custom shaft and heavier than standard weight so it wasn't too much of a shock to my system by going too light too quickly. The old driver had me missing left and right and sometimes badly in either direction. The new driver is, well, as Jeff said, any miss is now fully on me, which I can deal with since that's the only way to improve. I recently shot my two lowest rounds (Brookside Nay -75/74) ever on back to back days and I'm not fully comfortable with the club on the course yet because I haven't been able to spend much time at the range. Jeff knows what he's doing. They gave me a break on the price of the fitting when I ordered the club. There was absolutely Zero pressure to buy, but I knew Jeff had my best interests at heart so I felt secure dealing with them. Can't recommend them more highly. I'll definitely be back for fairway woods and eventually new irons as well. read more

Whom am I to mess up a 5 star rating. I'm torn between 4 and 5 likely because I really didn't buy anything this time and modest language barrier. Came by to look for a gift set of beginner clubs. For a small store front, they had a large selection of women's starter clubs and a few other sets for intermediate golfers as well. Counted about 7-8 from Callaway, Nike, Taylormade, Cobra and a few lesser known brands. Anyway, service was friendly and helpful, with no pressure but did feel like I wasn't getting their full attention. Either because I was a small sale or language (Predominantly Chinese spoken here), which will assume the latter since this is typically the case. There was an English speaking person working, but they were helping someone with their swing, so didn't expect him to turn his attention away from that. I will likely make a purchase here since golf clubs are not a cheap investment and hard to buy clubs on line unless you know exactly what you want/need which is rarely the case. They also have the wider variety at competitive prices which is nice. read more

If you are looking for a PGA tour level club fitting, this is the place. Jeff Sy is not only the real deal, but he also happens to be a great guy who genuinely loves his craft and helping golfers at any level. A buddy of mine who is a member at Riv told me about Jeff and after my first meeting with him, I was amazed by not only his knowledge of clubs and equipment but the wisdom he possessed and freely shared with me about all things golf related. He is so generous with his time and his workmanship is second to none. The list of tour players that Jeff has and currently advises is impressive and indicative of his skills. Because Jeff is extremely low key and humble, he would not appreciate me naming names so out of respect for him I won't. But it's impressive. Don't expect for him to do a fitting and recommend you buy a whole new set of clubs...that ain't gonna happen with Jeff. He goes out of his way to tweak, adjust or figure out the least expensive way to get your clubs fitted right for you. For example, I went in to try out the latest offering of forged irons. I'm 5'11" and arms and legs are average length but Jeff bent my current irons (MP-64s) 4 degrees flat....that's right, 4 degrees flat....and I have never hit my irons so solid and consistently as I do now. He only charged me for the standard hourly fitting rate for the hour (he spent over 1.5 hours with me actually) and nothing extra to bend the irons. I went there with a wad of $100s and returned home with the same wad less one....seriously. Never will he push you to buy anything. You would think Golden Golf Mart would not be happy with him not pushing their wares but they value long term relationships with their customers rather than a hit and run approach like GolfSmith (no wonder they went BK....) and other corporate golf stores. Golden Golf's prices are very competitive and they will also price match. I have referred many friends and clients and they all thank me endlessly for introducing them to Jeff. I can't say enough about him and you won't fully appreciate this review until you go through a club fitting with Jeff. read more

I made an appointment online to come in for new shafts on my PXG clubs. Jeff the club builder reached out to me via email to dive in a little deeper on what I was looking to get out of my fitting. I thought that was pretty solid customer service right off the bat. When I arrived for my fitting I was very impressed with the advanced technology Jeff was using on his simulator. Jeff took the time to dial in my iron shafts to fit my swing. I went from 155 yards of carry with my 7iron to 176 consistently. His expertise in club fitting is second to none! After finding the perfect shaft for my swing I decided to go ahead and purchase them. An hour later I was walking out the door with a newly shafted set of irons. Great mom and pop local golf shop. Been shopping there since they were in their original location across the street. They've constantly improved building out the offerings and now have a full fitting bay. They have some unique-high end offerings if you're into JDM stuff (Majesty/ Honma / Fourteen) as well as your standard OEMs. Very fair pricing and great service. Got clubs adjusted and new grips done in 1 day turn around. Jeff mentioned how the clubs were set before and what most likely my misses were, he was spot on. Guess what He already had an idea based on my previous fitting for irons. I waited to place this review. Wanted to make sure I liked my sticks after a 150$ fitting. I love them. Very extensive club fitting. I was going to go for the pxg gen 2t. Had my mind kind of set on it. But after hitting them with 3-4 different shafts, just wasn't getting the right feel. Tried many different heads. Srixon, Ping, Mizuno, Callaway... Ended up with TM p790 with KBS c-taper lite. Shaft and club I never thought I would like. (And I know!! It came out back in 2017!) Hit them great in the simulator. So I took a chance. Glad I did. Played 4 rounds thus far, and I can definitely tell you that when I pull out my irons it goes the predicted distance-minus the real bad hits. But I feel confident. By the way when, I ordered the clubs from them it arrived in record time. And! They did give me a discount on the fitting. I am going back here for my next clubs. No Doubt. And if anyone is going to invest in 1200-1500$ clubs. Please go here first!! read more

Just got my fitting done with Jeff and he was amazing! Super patient with me and was super knowledgeable about the different types of equipment out there. It wasn't my 1st fitting, but my 1st fitting here at Golden Golf, and the experience was awesome! Would highly recommend going to Jeff and the Golden Golf Mart staff for your club fitting needs as well as any equipment. They have a pretty nice variety/selection of equipment. Not to mention, I was hitting about 140 yds of carry with my 7i and my old irons before. After getting fitted with Jeff, I was carrying my 7i 170-180 yds and drawing more consistently.
