It is so awesome to be able to get a custom beverage and snack right in front of your office first thing in the morning. The convenience factor alone gives it 5 stars. That being said, even if it wasn't convenient I'd seek out this local gem. When I see the CoffeeCake truck around town I feel excitement build within me. Maybe it's the caffeine addiction talking but they serve up some of the best drinks to come out of a truck. I usually stick to a non-fat latte or a freshly brewed tea (hot or iced depending on the season) and my favorite coconut muffins! (For all you coconut haters, I'm glad you hate coconut because then there's still a muffin left for me by the time I get to the truck!) My coworkers favorites are the flat white, pablo, dirty chai, mocha, hot chocolate, and, of course, the infamous coffee cake. Service with a smile is an understatement. By your second or third visit the ladies on the truck will know you're face and order by heart and love you for it!

So, I am 100% behind this idea coming to fruition now in Kansas City, where it is admittedly a lot easier to find a non corporate cup of coffee, but try to do so in the evening, especially weekends after 3pm, and you're SOL. Or, perhaps you're having a busy workday and can't get in your car to locate some caffeine. Not to mention, when there are events around town like First Weekends in the Bottoms and you find yourself needing some little boost to get you in for the long haul or art walkin' and antique pickin' (yes, this was me on Saturday). Enter CoffeeCakeKC offering up some of the best roasted bean juice in town! What was it, 95 degrees on Saturday? Nothing like an iced Americano (with soy milk, yay!!) to brighten these languid, humid days and CCKC's is perfect in flavor (nutty, strong, not bitter). I was too hot for a baked good, but I look forward to this option in the future. They look/smell divine! Not to mention the fact the people behind this operation are extremely nice, so ordering up is a pleasure. He's done an amazing job creating a space that is modern and welcoming. It needs to be bigger because every time I've been there it's filled with people. Don't stop with the coffee. Anytime I go I not only get an amazing cup of coffee, I also get a peaceful place that is great for studying, making a new friend, or playing a game of cards with a friend. I met a friend here and the staff were all so friendly and fun! I thought for sure this would be my new coffeeshop hang, especially for journaling or a lazy Sunday with my husband and the crossword. The noise went way beyond the usual coffeeshop sounds of grinding beans, steam from the espresso machine, and the chatter of customers (which are all expected) . At one point, and I'm not exaggerating, it sounded like an airplane was landing inside the coffeeshop. A horrible, continuous, incredibly loud sound like a jet engine .... And it just wouldn't stop! It went on for several, several minutes. At one point my friend paused our conversation and said "My God, what is that?" It ruined our coffee date and made the experience so unpleasant that we just wrapped up our time together and left. To add insult to injury, when we got outside a car alarm was blaring. That is not Hattie's fault, of course, but it didn't change my impression that this is the loudest coffeeshop on earth. I've been to hundreds of coffeeshops, and I've never experienced a prolonged, wretched, grinding-engine sound like this before. I have no idea what it was. It was so bizarre. I had an Arnold Palmer and breakfast sandwich. The lemonade was too tart, but I could have added more sugar so that's not their fault. The sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich was meh, but the pastries looked great (although I didn't have one). Since the staff is wonderful and it is a convenient spot for me, I will go back on a nice day and try the patio. But I can't imagine I will ever try sitting inside again. The search of the perfect coffeeshop continues!

The owner, Christian, is not only incredibly professional but also a truly talented barista. You can tell he genuinely cares about the craft. His cinnamon toast latte was hands down one of the best specialty lattes I've had -- perfectly balanced, warm, and just sweet enough without being overpowering. It honestly tasted like comfort in a cup. The hot chocolate was just as impressive -- rich, smooth, and not overly sugary -- and they also offer chai tea, which was a huge hit for anyone wanting something beyond coffee.
