In late 2019, we had a flood in our master bathroom that (like many people) was the primer for a…read morefull-blown remodel. It was time to upgrade our gross 1980's shower and cheap vanity from the previous house flip. We turned to MOST Construction of Carlsbad for full design and remodel construction services and they did not disappoint! From the early scoping, contracting and through the design process, Pernille and Morten were very professional and understanding of our vision. The contracting process was very detailed to ensure all work was accounted for, and Pernille provided numerous design drawings for us to work with. Being our first bathroom remodel, we were unaware of the amount of planning and subcontractors that would be involved. Along the way, MOST provided recommendations for vendors with the experience to match our vision. Construction began with a minor hiccup when a small leak occurred in the subfloor below the shower, but this was due to an existing hole in our drain pipe. This was no fault to MOST construction, but Morten promptly mitigated this and repaired the minor drywall damage. Talk about great service! From thereon everything was a breeze! Their workers were courteous and showed up on time each day and kept the workspace as clean as possible. Their tile tradesman Sal is a true artisan! Following the framing and hotmop of the shower pan, Sal built a traditional mortar bed tile job with custom niches and gorgeous bordering. He took his time to make sure the end product was flawless, and I appreciate that level of skill. Pernille coordinated with the Countertop Company of San Marcos to have the vanity and shower dam slab cut and installed. We handled the glasswork (shower door, backlit mirror) ourselves with Cast Glass Images of San Marcos. Everything went smoothly with drywall, electrical and finish plumbing installation. In the end, MOST Construction was a pleasure to work with. They are a team of true professionals and they will be my go-to general contractor for quotes on my next major remodeling job!

We wanted to install french doors for our home office where prior there was a huge doorway opening with no doors. Pernille was great to work with, offering design suggestions and showing us photos of similar work so we could get a good picture of what to expect. Once our doors were ordered (through General Millworks), MOST scheduled their installation to coordinate with the door delivery. They worked very efficiently, completing the job in a couple of days (other companies told us the job could take up to 2 weeks!). They also kept the space very tidy and clean. We are thrilled with the way they turned out!

I hesitate to even write this because I feel bad leaving a bad review, but my overall experience…read morewas really bad and yelp was what helped move me forward in choosing them to paint my home. Customer service-wise they were great. Communicative, showed up, etc. The painting? Not so much. I chose them after a recommendation from someone in a facebook group, seeing all 5 stars on yelp, and during the initial walk-through for the quote he seemed very focused on being meticulous. We are also very meticulous, so we were happy to find someone on the same wavelength. The quote was very expensive (about 9k for 2 story 2000 sqft) but he said he'd throw in painting the cabinets (and the baseboard stuff I will mention more below) but that it wouldn't be cheaper without the cabinets. I figured since cabinets are usually pretty expensive to get done well that it would be worth it to have them done. Much stuff happens without event. We weren't yet moved into the home at the time, so the house was empty. We paid him and went for the walk-through to check everything out (by ourselves). He told us if we see spots that need touch up we can stick some painters tape and they will come back for touch ups. So we are looking through our house and there is so much overspray on things like doorknobs, wood stairs, cabinet hardware, etc. Lines on things like baseboards and at windows were rarely clean. Many areas had painters tape still stuck on that was painted over so if you pulled it off you'd pull off tape. Drops of paint on the floor. Hardware painted over rather than removed (like in apartments where they just keep piling on the paint!). Etc. The house was also left a mess. Paint dust everywhere. My husband was concerned he wouldn't even come back because we already paid him. He did come back. Unfortunately, even after coming back the issues were not addressed. This time, we asked him to do a walk through with us so we could point things out. Again, he came back. He did try to do things like clean overspray, but he started using paint thinner we asked him not to use (our young children were in the house) and asked me to look at spots he did and they still had spray on them. At that point, we just cut our losses and asked him to leave and decided we'd take care of whatever rather than asking them to do stuff that wasn't going to happen. The reason I chose not to paint my house myself is because I expected a professional would do a better job. This was not hitting the mark at all. I suspect during prep they didn't really clean anything prior to painting. For example, there was hair painted into the wall. They wanted to cut time and costs and also sprayed places they shouldn't or less carefully than they should (I don't know anything about paint spraying, other than overspray shouldn't be everywhere, so something was done incorrectly). Currently, 6-7 months later, in many places in the home there are cracks developing in the paint either due to poor prep or too thick of an application. It's just sad because we paid so much for a paint job we thought would be super professional and ended up with something that doesn't look great and will probably cost a lot more to make look nice by painters next time. If it ever even can. He seemed more focused on the "extras" he wanted to do. Did we appreciate he randomly put baseboards in our closets that didn't have any? Sure (although he ran out of baseboard and left some undone and we were like "well, we'd rather just not have any than half done." he did add more after we mentioned it). Did we appreciate he re did the corners of baseboards on rounded doorways where they were very off? Yes. Did we appreciate he changed a section of hallways that had a different type of baseboard to the same? Yes. But was it worth have a horrible paint job? No. Photos are just a small sampling for examples. Am i ridiculously meticulous? Absolutely. But I do believe this goes beyond what an average person would feel satisfied with, especially paying on the higher end.
