Great service! We went for the first time ever around 5:30 pm. Upon walking in we could see the establishment was pristine and inviting! Not many customers and some meat options were sold out unfortunately. But I was informed that is because they cook everything fresh every day, which I can appreciate. I will just have to go earlier next time! The small plate as you can see in the photos was a huge portion! The meat was flavorful and tender. Since we informed the staff it was our first time they allowed us to sample different meat options they had and everything was delicious! Unfortunately I gave this restaurant a second chance to make an impression on my taste buds and they failed miserably. The staff was amazing, kind and polite. Wish I took the clerk's advice and not to get the oxtails because of the high sugar content. Well I also tried the Escovitch fish, which was dry and not seasoned. The Rasta Pasta was also insulting to my taste buds. The only thing I liked was the okra and salt Fish. I really hope they improve and get a new Chef. Please improve ! read more

We arrived close enough to closing to where anyone else would have turned us away. We wanted 12 beef patties oxtails with rice peas and cabbage along with some jerk pork! My family has been going here for over 20 years and now they're under new management. I went for the Grand Opening; food was good. But now I return with my daughter at 4:30 in the afternoon and I saw that the steam tables, with food in them, were drying up. The jerk pork and the jerk chicken were very dry and we asked if that was all that they had. The young man told me no, so I wanted fresh pork in the steam table. But the young lady that was taking care of us, Genevieve, wanted to know why didn't I want the last of the jerk pork. So when I explained that the steam table dries out the pork when it sits there that long all day, she seemed to have quite an attitude from me giving some constructive criticism. You see when you put food in your steam table you'll have to come and toss whatever you have in them over. The jerk chicken was dry. I tried to explain it to them and she wasn't too happy about it. I'm not returning, nor my family to something like that because she almost didn't seem to care of how the food looked in the steam table. I'd rather go to Sango's across the street. I rated this one star and lucky that I have to put a rating on it cause I would say zero stars. There was one kid there that was very polite, that understood what I was talking about so as I walked out, I look in the steam table and I see this square piece of something yellow; and I ask "What is that?". The reply was "This is macaroni and cheese.". And I ask are you kidding me? And he looked at me and he knew that macaroni and cheese ain't supposed to look like that, and it was just one piece flying solo in the steam table almost like they didn't care. The owner was there or was he the manager; he did not even come out the back because he knew what I was talking about because he was walking back-and-forth. You know how it is in the kitchen, and he wanted to come out to hear what I was saying or to try to correct it. You know how it goes in a business they're mumbling mumbling and they won't come out to the front to face what I was talking about; now they have somebody explaining to the guy who knows about service that has been in the hospitality business and this is how it turns out. So this is my message to you guys who are there. Always ask questions, look at the food that you're receiving because a lotta people taking shortcuts giving you the last of the last and it's not right. How about that? read more

Came here to get patties. When I simply asked "What is in the veggie patty?" The response was full attitude: "I don't know... I didn't make it..." No attempt to care or find out, but I ordered a beef and veggie patty anyway. They both were 100% beef, and the crust was soft, doughy and chewy (even when toasted)- gross! A friend recommended this place.... First time here. Very clean and organized, not many places to sit. The line moved quickly as the lunch rush came in. I also noticed they do have a breakfast service of traditional Jamaican breakfast like Achee and cod fish. I ordered the Brown Stew Chicken lunch special and a mild beef patty on the side. The portion of food was great, BUT the bone in chicken chunks were not very meaty. The beef patty was great! And the gravy from the chicken poured over the rice... Yum! They seem more friendly to people of Caribbean descent who speak like them, which is not right because we are all paying customers. This is like a fast food Caribbean joint. Their jerk pork - juicy (because of the fats!) pieces of pork that are super spicy - will turn your face into a waterfall. It's authentic and delicious, and I can't stop coming back during my lunch break to take a quick shower (if you're like me and sweat when you eat spicy foods... lol, bad joke). It's about $9 for the regular sized (not the small one) meal of jerk pork + rice and beans + steamed cabbage. I've also ordered their Jamaican patty for my wife, and she scarfs it down even though it's like 6 hours later when she finally gets to take a bite. She'll even pout when I attempt to get a nibble, so I usually buy 2 and sneak the other one home. Hahaha at her when she reads this. So if you like spicy, come try their jerk pork! read more

Being Jamaican, I am very particular about Jamaican cooking. I have tried the majority of Jamaican restaurants in Kendall, and while I have some favorite dishes here and there, Golden Krust is my overall favorite! My absolute favorites on the menu are their oxtails and curry goat. The oxtails are always tender and they happily serve mine with "extra gravy"! I also love the fact that they aren't afraid to "spice up" the food! Too many Jamaican restaurants try to appeal to the masses, and the food ends up being bland and flavorless. If you plan to have oxtail, get there early, as they do run out of oxtails on most nights. My other favorites are the soups (which change daily), and their breakfast porridges. The food really gives a bad impression of Caribbean cuisine; not that any food that sits out all day makes a great impression. It is fairly cheap, so you are getting what you pay for, but I strongly recommend that you choose wisely... After having my stomach turn over a few times from eating here I gave up on them. The food is prepared and placed into a buffet style area that allows you to see it, but not actually serve yourself. Sounds like a good concept, if you were at Subway. The employees were so lazy, especially the tall guy, who did nothing but stand there and play disgusting trap music from his phone. Trap music doesn't really jive with any customer facing business - especially a Jamaican restaurant. There were 15 customers waiting, and only one girl was serving us. She did it all, took orders, prepared the food, and served as the cashier. The other two employees did nothing and moved around like sloths - even while 15 customers were waiting in line. Very unprofessional and it sets the wrong mood.. Is this not a Jamaican restaurant? Play some reggae, dance-hall - they have to set the right mood. Customers should feel good vibes when they walk into a Jamaican restaurant. All I experienced was lazy, slow moving employees who looked angry - all the while the tall lazy boy is blasting his nasty trap music. I was not impressed with the food either. I love a good patty. I found myself starving as I was headed to the Jamaican grocery store up the street from here, so I stopped in for something to hold me over. I got 2 jerk chicken patties and a juice. The crust was too doughy- and there was more crust than filling; actually there was no chicken in the filling just paste and seasoning. This little place opened up a few months ago in my neighborhood. I knew this franchise from NY where I would buy patties from when I lived there and they were quite good. I was hoping for this franchise to have the same effect. I LOVE the patties here, they are even better than the ones I used to get in the Bronx. I am so happy this place is by my house. The spicy beef patty is my all-time long-time favorite, true to its nature (spicy). I have also tried the jerk chicken patty, veggie patty and chicken patty so far, they have been delicious. The patties are fresh always, very flaky and YUMMY! Sometimes they run out in the afternoon, so I would advice to go early. I haven't tried their food, but that little place is always packed so I'm guessing its good. They also sell a variety of Jamaican cakes by the slice, very fresh. I like the guava flavored one. Updating my review, because one can see that the owners are indeed working hard to make changes, at one point the owner even posted a visible notice with their phone number, for anyone to contact if there is a complaint. And many, many years ago, when I left my initial review, the owner contacted me and offered to make it right by giving me a voucher. Though I never took them up on the offer, because I was truly done and put off with the establishment at the time. I have since gone back and can say they have improved. The staff is nicer, and there hasn't been a recent incident of hair/foreign object in the food *knocks on wood* LOL. One thing that makes them stand out, is you can see the food options right in front of you, so you can make a choice on what looks good and what doesn't. There is still some inconsistencies, like on some days the curry is thick with a bit of kick to it, other days it is watery with no vegetables in the sauce. Also the white rice can be an issue at times, whereby there are uncooked/dry pieces mixed in and sometimes overcooked (visibly mushy). Since the rice and peaces doesn't have this problem, it suggests a problem with either the rice cooker, or the warming unit that the rice is kept in. All in all, I would give 3.5 stars. read more
