My father recommended this location when I was craving some curry goat. My family had been coming here for years, but I'd never come on my own. They have a great lunch special (includes a water), but I would recommend they allow the substitution of a kola champagne for a $1 up charge. A cold Kola champagne, curry goat, cabbage, and plantain really makes me feel like I am grabbing a box lunch in Kingston, Jamaica. The goat was well seasoned, tender, and meaty. Truly enjoyed this meal and brought a friend with me to encourage us to finish our college finals strong. Will definitely come back! So I recently had Ox-tails for the first time a festival. I immediately fell in love and wanted more. I went to a local Jamaican food spot anticipating the same great taste was was disappointed. I tried this several times and again wasted time, money and food so I just gave up on the dish. Ox tail is a pricey dish and I just did want take another chance.... Well, until I found Golden Krust. My husband and I stopped by for a Seamoss smoothie but I ordered a side of Rice and Peas topped with the oxtail sauce. After tasting the sauce, I knew I had to give oxtails one last try. Like a previous review said this has to be the worst location in Atlanta. I was craving Jamaican food so I drove out of the way to come here. Let me start by saying I've actually worked at a Golden Krust operated by one of the founders relatives (not sure if this is one as well) and I know they'd be disappointed by the food here. Secondly I'm Caribbean and from NYC so I know good food. I got the Salt fish with fried dumplings. Both of which were just ok... nothing specially. Also I assumed all salt fish orders came with ackee and was disappointed to see none in my food. I could be wrong though...It's been 10+ years since I worked there. I also got a small order of oxtails with rice & peas, and cabbage. First bite of the oxtail with gravy was disgusting. Oxtails taste dried out and the gravy has a burnt flavor. Peas in the cabbage have a gross frozen taste like they aren't fully cooked. Plantains on both orders were dried out and inedible. If you look closely you can see a dried spot on the plantains in the pic. Food went straight to the trash. This has to be old food they are serving! Overall a big disappointment. $30 dollars for two small plates and one cream soda is a NO. As for service it was very flat, but that's to be expected from Jamaican spots lol. It has been awhile since I've had Caribbean food and usually when I do it's always a beef patty. This time I decided to not only try the beef patty but a dish as well. Arrived at the location and noticed that it was very clean which encouraged me more to order something so after looking over the menu I decided to order the large plate of curry chicken. I wanted to keep it simple and basic. I also ordered a beef patty with cheese and coco bread. When making my order the server was in no form of fashion lenient and piled my plate high with rice and chicken. It smelled delicious. Upon tasting the food it was a perfect blend of spices and the chicken literally fell off the bone! Very good indeed. Although the food was good , there was just a few issues that came up. The first one was the beef patty. I usually get mine with cheese or put cheese in it when I get home. I requested that they put cheese in it and she took my party to the back and came back shortly. It was warmed and put in the coco bread. When I finally did take a bite of the patty it was cold on the inside. Not because it wasn't cooked but because the server literally, I mean literally cut a block of cheese and put it in the patty. Not a slice but a 3/4 quarter block stuffed right in the middle. It was barely melted and if you have ever eaten a block of cheese you know the taste is way more over powering than a regular slice. Basicly it was like eating a cheese sandwich. I could not taste the flavors of the patty, only cheese. My second concern was from where I was standing I could see into the kitchen and the server dropped a few spoons on the floor from a certain area. She pick the spoons up and put them back where they fell from. Maybe they were already dirty perhaps but I would assume you put dirty spoons in the sink or staging area to be cleaned. Not saying they do use dirty utensils but just something I noticed. If your a big fan of Jamaican food, this is definitely a cheaper alternative if your not familiar with cooking it yourself. read more

I haven't had Jamaican food in a long time because I live in Dallas Texas and I was anxious to get back to my Jamaican roots and find an authentic restaurant I'm familiar with this place because where I'm from there are several of them I had Ackee and salt fish for breakfast and my husband had jerk chicken white rice and macaroni and cheese for breakfast. The Ackee and saltfish was delicious however the jerk chicken wasn't all of that and we've had better. They gave us jerk sauce on the side Instead of it being marinated and grilled on the chicken. I ordered the Red Snapper Escovitch meal and the young lady promptly informed me that it would take 15 minutes. I was find with that knowing that this dish is normally cooked to order. Well, my order came out in less than 10 minutes. Even though the lady (different one) showed me the plate with a flash so fast I said ok. Long story short tried jerk chicken and oxtail and both were regular every week. The service is okay. None of the ladies look like they want to be there, no friendly face. Look like sour puss. After the time they raise oxtail to $28.00. I decided I was done. You are a restaurant so when those prices went up, you still not paying what the average consumer is paying for oxtail. Next time I decided to go for soup. I got no cowgoot in cowgoot soup. Said today. I feel for CF soup. Got home bought 2 LG CF SOUP. Can I get more than 1 piece of CF? And to honest this soup taste and smell like a water down veggie soup lacking true cowfoot flavor, with added extra pepper. And what is the little white bits in the soup? I used to go this place weekly for takeout. The oxtails are delicious and the portions are huge. The lunch specials are priced well especially for the amount of food given. The beef patties are crisp and tasty just how I like them. The service can be hit or miss. Sometimes they accidentally skip over you but otherwise it's a good place. Great and authentic! I usually get the curry goat, but have had everything else, besides the stewed chicken. I used to hate jerk, but theirs made me a believer. My negatives would be the mac n cheese. It used to be THE BOMB. However, about a month ago, they started added onions and spices that dont belong. I like clove in meat dishes, not macaroni. The mac leaves a horrible bitter aftertaste. Another negative is the plating. They will definitely provide you with generous portions. However, the containers are not suitable. I always end up with a puddle of gravy in and all over my to go bag. Nonetheless, im there once a week, at least. Love it! read more

Let's Start with the employees. They are great!!! Love them, they are always kind and quick. The manager on the other hand not so much. I went there and I always spend 25+. So I got my food went to my car, before I could put on my seatbelt, he was beeping the horn at me to move so he could get my spot right up front. A spot that should be reserved for patrons anyway. Visited the restaurant on Stonecrest Pkwy in Atl. Food was pretty good. I thoroughly enjoyed my cow foot soup. However, I wasn't particularly pleased that the music wasn't very child friendly. I heard nearly every profane word there is while eating my lunch with my 2 young children. It's possible they had satellite radio on....doesn't matter to me. This Golden Krust is amazing! My favorite dish is oxtails, cabbage, rice, and peas. They always give a gracious amount of food and the gravy on the oxtails is amazing. The beef patties are delectable, and the customer service is great! They have a wide variety of beverages to choose from (all those awesome island punches and juice flavors you like, mango, passion fruit, pineapple, ect.) The people at the register are always very nice, and seem to take pride in their food. They are happy to see their customers happy. They do have a small dine in area where you can sit and enjoy your food, but if there is a line it may get a little crowded and you may feel cramped. Overall this Golden Krust gets two thumbs up and a hand clap from me! Very satisfying! read more
