Zero stars It was supposed to be chicken, "fresh" mushrooms, scallops, eggplant in a wine sauce. My mistake for having high expectations! Unrecognizable & non-edible meal at the Golden pigeon in Bridgeton. There was no difference in the blan taste of any main ingredients. Management took my meal off the bill, then charged $5.99 for the side salad & $2.99 for the bread that came with both meals? Ironically I didn't eat the salad (the dressing was bad) or the bread, that was delicious, & left both. The manager gave us such a hard time as soon as I asked the police to be called because I refused to pay for the meal they changed their mind. The other dish is stuffed peppers drowning in a sauce, we joked & wondered what they were hiding. It was good though. The side mashed potatoes came from the fridge, it was never warmed up. But due to poor management, we didn't say anything, it'll be fine leftovers. The diner appears to have never had any updates since the late 70s, I'm pretty sure the dust was that old too. The menu was printed from a copy machine with low ink. Never will we be back! read more

I love this place!! The side Greek salad has a ton of different herbs and is jam packed with flavor, highly recommend! I got a chicken croquette mini meal and let's just say...it's far from mini! The French onion soup was truly a treat. A really great value across the board! Stop here time to time for lunch or dinner, it's always packed but there's always seating also. The servers and owners are nice it's your friendly neighborhood diner what else can you say? Its your classic diner inside with your classic menu with way to many options of diner food. The food is pretty good as far as diner food goes but I tend to stick with the diner basics, cheeseburger, cheese steak and chicken fingers. I don't venture to far from those menu items but my wife will get the turkey club or and omelette here and there and we never had a bad experience here. We go to the pigeon any chance we get. The staff is always friendly and nice. The food is always amazing. No matter when you go there it's like family. You always run into somebody that you know. They care about their customers they just had 40% off your whole meal 3 to 9 and it was so nice that they did that that's a big chunk of your bill. Today i went to golden pigeon and i saw a guy coming to pick up his food and asked "who answered the phone?" And the guy at the front counter said "me" and the guy replied " you hung up on me and had a bad attitude and started yelling" the golden pigeon is at it's downfall. And i feel bad for the servers they are not cared for and the owners dont care about their well being. I would rate 0 stars but i cant so it gets one. Also my sister used to work here and quit because of the kitchen staff they are very inappropriate and disgusting he pushed her against the counter and put his thing on her behind. I love having a reason to be near Jersey diners. After a recommendation from a local business employee, we gave Golden Pigeon a try. The diner decor and vibe was old-school and appeared un-updated, the service was prompt and friendly with just the right amount of checking in, and the food was good. We had a small Greek salad which seemed like a large. It was served with the dressing on the side, it wasn't possible to get it without onions - they said the onions were already on there, so pre-assembled I guess. It did have anchovies on top and came with pita. Also at our table was an order of eggs with home fries with a side of pork roll, which I'm told was all good. The best part of the experience was the value - dinner for two with a total of $21! The toughest part of the experience was choosing what to have after reading through pages and pages of options that all sounded good. My parents and I stopped here on our way back home from Wildwood. The only reason we stopped was because my brother who wasn't with us told us to go there as he and our grandparents went there years ago. The service was great, the waitress was very attentive and kind to us. We all got entrees from the daily specials menu that included soup/salad, the entree with sides, and a choice of dessert. All the food was good in my opinion. It didn't wow me, but for the price we paid ($7/$8 for each meal), and the amount of food we got for it, it was great. I was stuffed afterwards. Quick service too. Typical diner atmosphere to me. My mom loved the bread and when we were leaving, the waitress gave us two small loaves for the road free of charge. If I lived closer, I'd totally be back here with my friends and family. below average food for a diner, my fiancée's pancakes were a little burnt but fluffy mine weren't burnt but had kind of a pasty texture. our homefries were half burnt half fine, overall most of our food was edible. the portions were a pretty decent size and our waiter Bunyamin was very nice and attentive. inside was a pretty normal diner, i didn't do much investigating but our table was clean and nothing negative stood out other than the food itself. read more

Atmosphere: The Golden Pigeon is typical of a New Jersey Diner.  The outside is a mixture of both cobblestone and metallic in the front.  There is a huge sign that says "diner" and fresh baking on premises.  The promise of fresh baking is enough to lure anyone in. Coffee: The coffee was good. However, they were out of whipped cream!  A diner with fresh baking and no whipped cream?  Oh well, it's only happened a few times.  I don't always get coffee with whipped cream, and I do prefer it. Food: The Golden Pigeon has everything you can imagine in a diner.  There are plenty of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.  I'll warn you that the portions are huge. I decided to order the Pork Chop special, and it did not disappoint. I've never had anything like it! It started off with the choice of salads, and I chose a Greek which came with anchovies (off to a good start). I also got fresh cheese bread which was amazing. If you have never had cheese bread, it's bread baked with cheese in the center. My three pork chops came with sautéed onions and on top of hashbrowns as well as french fries.  It was unique, ultra filling, and I have no complaints. I wasn't expecting the french fries, so it was definitely a filling addition.  Service: The server was nice. I think he might have also been the manager, but he was friendly, chatted often, and made sure I had plenty of refills and that my food came out quickly. Overall Thoughts/Would I Come Back? When it comes to Diners I have a slightly different scale from a normal restaurant. I would say I give Diners a handicap as Diners offer a large array of food and food types, so it's a little unreasonable to expect everything to be amazing. With that said, a Diner should have excellent breakfast and soups. I've had a mix of food here from French toast to soup to hotdogs. The only thing that was somewhat good was the French onion so I will start with what I felt was their best dish. The soup itself look pretty good upon presentation, it has a nice chat on the melted cheese. The flavor itself was pretty good, there were a lot of onions and not too much filler(bread). The only gripe I have about it is that the onions were black. I've never seen black onions before and it leads me to believe they have been sitting in the broth for quite some time to absorb that color. Now for the bad, the French toast I ordered tasted as if they took frozen stale bread and used that. The bread had hard edges and was super dry. The hotdog I ordered was actually one of their daily specials. It was called a Texas Dog which I guess means bacon and cheese wiz. Super gross, probably worse than a one of those dirty hotdog stands. Food aside, this place just reeks of filthyness. A bunch of the tables have jukeboxes on them which to me is a pretty tacky novelty, but that aside the one at our table was so gross and dirty that I didn't even want to touch it. They have mirrors all over, those along with any glass had smear marks and dirt all over them. Came from NY and enjoyed the food. The diner specials were like meals you'd get at a 5 star restaurant but 1/2 the price. The "dirty bird" as the Golden Pigeon is affectionately known as around here, was a favorite of my late father in law. I wouldn't have gone there were it not for him because the name just freaked me out. I think that's the case for a lot of people and the diner has not earned it's nickname. The place really isn't dirty at all, and the food is decent. The owners are Turkish, so the menu is diner food with a mediterranean bent, which are the best kind in South Jersey. It's not just meatloaf and mashed at the Pigeon. Of course they have great diner coffee and really GOOD pastries and desserts. So yeah, I like the dirty bird. read more

I am from Bridgeton so this is like a homecoming of sorts. Boy was I disappointed. I got the 9.99 special. It was Fried Flounder. I got soup, 2 veggies, coffee and dessert. They also give you bread. Well. The first soup I got wasnt hot. The fish platter I got was 2 frozen fillets which you could tell was pre ordered and then fried as soon as it was taken out of the freezer. My baked potato was overcooked. The only good thing was my broccoli and cornbread lol. My server was good though. She was sweet. Now I've read reviews about how "bad" this diner is...as if they were written with the expectation of the quality of a five star restaurant. It's STILL a diner! This place has to serve what the best cheeseburger in the world. The owners are always VERY friendly and treat you like family when you visit. Occasionally they throw in a free slice of cake or desert with your order as a thank you for your loyalty. I order shrimp and broccoli fettucine alfredo and my husband orders the sirloin steak or prime rib. The food is excellent and the service is wonderful. I was surprised this diner was so quiet when I met up with a colleague there. It seems to get a lot of truck and road crew traffic. I was there for both breakfast and then came back later for lunch. Service is very good. The cost is very reasonable for the amount of food you get. The food itself is OK, nothing outstanding. They do have good chicken soup. Packed with veggies and chunks of chicken. Very tasty. I ordered a turkey sandwich and it was just OK. They gave a side of bread that was obviously frozen and microwaved prior to serving. It was actually inedible since it seemed to be vulcanized. For the price, it's a great deal. It's difficult to pay by credit card since they seem to only be set up for debit cards. They were finally able to process my card after several minutes. The owner was very nice and was coming by frequently to see that everything was good. read more
