I have been here several times as I live close to the area. Food is a hit or miss. Today's experience left really a sour taste as I felt the server was rude and she did not want to accommodate any substitutions to a basic dish like omelette and we were not even asking for something crazy or out of the menu. Our ask was simple as to replace ham with tomato. They definitely should look into customer service 101. read more

Went here for breakfast as soon as they opened at 7am on a weekday. It's always very clean and I enjoy coming here. Our waitress was great but she got very busy waiting on other tables so took awhile to get our check but food came out very fast . I ordered the hungry Leo which was eggs of choice, French toast or pancakes, sausages and bacon. My husband ordered a chicken cheesesteak with fries. Everything was delicious took home leftovers. I had no idea that PB's Diner had closed. Not a huge loss though. I applied there in college for a host gig and the owner had me open my mouth so he could inspect my teeth. That was at least 15 years ago, but I'll never forget that. Anyway, I was surprised when my mom raved about Monarch and we pulled into PB's space. When we walked in, I asked the host for a booth away from the door (it was a frigid evening), which I'm guessing she didn't hear. She then tried to sit us two booths from the door, and my mom shrieked about it. It was the night before my dad's funeral and we were both very emotional, and the host was clearly and understandably upset that my mom yelled. I apologized and explained why my mom reacted that way, but the host literally didn't say a word back to me and then purposefully ignored us as we paid and left later on. We haven't had the support that other folks have in these types of situations, such as a meal train, so as such we had to go out to eat for food. Trust me, it wasn't my preference. Our server was nice but very green, and he had to go check on the answers to questions several times. My mom ordered broiled crab, which she loved, and I ordered a pasta special, which I didn't love, but I fully blame it on my own tastebuds just not functioning correctly right now. The manager who came over to check in was super super kind and empathetic as I sat there crying in the booth. I really appreciated that. I went to Monarch Diner on the recommendation of a friend. After being seated, I noticed the servers standing by my booth gathered, discussing "hamhocks" and they all have had them and they all wait on them. What I realized is that they were referring to black people and the stereotype of being bad tippers. The conversation was loud enough for me to hear their complaints on the subject. I sat quietly, disappointed with what I was hearing. I took a few bites from my plate but I'd lost my appetite so I requested a box for the food, paid my bill and left my customary 20% tip. One and done. We will never return to Monarch Diner which should appease the establishment. And, we will be sure to share out experience. read more

How have I never heard about this place before? I tripped upon Monarch Diner after a random Target trip and it was an absolute win. I'm a sucker for really good service and we were lucky enough to have Joe. Our drink glasses never got below half and he gave great suggestions on what to order. I ordered the grandma's pot pie and it even came out with a little heart craved into the crust (the devil is in the details folks). It was DELICIOUS and the portion size was a total win. Another surprise was the speed of service. Restaurant was packed but our food came out at "blink and you'll miss it speed" in and out the door clocking less than an hour. Oh and there's a rewards program!!! I've never heard of a diner doing this. There's a definite family feel to the place that makes you feel right at home. Legit can't wait to come back read more

Me and the wife stopped here on a little road trip. The service was good. Our waitress was helpful and respectful. The food came out in a timely fashion and hot. Always a plus. My wife had provolong cheese omelet with onions and avocado and I had a avocado and tomato. Omelet with American cheese and a side of turkey sausage. Both meals were pretty good the omelet was of a good consistency with both avocado and tomato. The turkey was juicy and had good flavor. Nice lite meal. My wife's omelet was the same a little more dense but the taste of both were still very pleasing. I'd recommend if you want a good meal with friendly staff stop though. Went to monarch diner today because I was in the mood for crabmeat. Crabcakes were described as LUMP crabmeat, ordered the crab cakes. They were good however the crabmeat was more shredded, not to where there were lumps of crabmeat that I was hoping to see however it was very tasty. No imitation junk, it was real crab. I ordered a side of fried eggplant and potato salad which I was in mood for. I asked waitress to ask the cook if I could taste the potato salad, just a little spoonful to see if I liked it, she was hesitant, saying I dont know if they'll do it. I said of course they will! I was only asking for a taste, like a spoonful not a lot... of course she came out with a little in a plastic souffle cup. It was one of the tastiest potato salads I've had out! Some plces dont get potato salad right but Monarchs is the bomb!!! THE eggplant wasn't peeled and I hate, I mean hate when eggplant has skin on it. It made the eggplant tough and hard to cut so i swapped it for a baked potato which was silly since I opted for the potato salad but in hindsight i think I shouldve picked pickled beets, it would've been a better choice since i love those. I initially asked my server if they had fried stuffed shrimp and she said no, that the crabmeat would just fall out of the,shrimp into the oil. Silly thought since my crab cakes were fried! When I went up to pay I inquired about fried stuffed shrimp and the gentleman assured me they certainly do serve fried stuffed shrimp. I would've ordered that instead of the crab cakes had the server knew they do sell them. My salad was great that came with the meal, chilled properly and the Bleu cheese killer!!! Lumpy and delicious! I asked for a side of hummus because I had it a few days earlier under "the European bowl" which is AWESOME! Comes with feta cheese, stuffed grape leaves, cukes over hummus. Today, however the hummus tasted a little bland, not as good as the other day, seemed watered down or it was a new batch that had no tahini or something was different but it was just OK, just not nearly like it was when I had it several days earlier. Not a big deal, came out with warmed pita to dip in it, im a hummus fanatic and I hope they'll see this post and improve on it. NOW FOR THE BEST PART! MONARCH MAKES A BREAD PUDDING THAT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND!!! Its loaded with custard! Not overly sweet but omg what a sinful dessert to end a meal with! I ordered 3 containers to go because i had been raving to my brother and sis in law about it so I got them each their own containers and one for me! I asked my server if she could put a squirt of whipped cream in them and she said no because it would be too much for the container. Idk what or how my server thinks but a little coaching from mgt may be in order. I still left a 20% tip but I felt a little put off . Monarch has an awesome menu and their food is always consistently good! Im looking forward to trying the Shepherds Pie, but one thing id like to see on that menu is Mousaka because I adore greek food and wouldn't mind seeing some Greek entrees as a special from time to time. I highly recommend this restaurant and BTW on Tuesdays they have stuffed peppers if you love comfort food. 2 huge peppers over homemade mashed, its enough for 2 people but sooo delicious!!! Today's experience would be an 8 out of 10 but id like to see lump crab instead of it being overly mixed but the crabcakes were flavorful as they should be! Highly recommend their chocolate covered cheesecake with a giant chocolate covered strawberry on top! Its one of the best cheesecakes around and always super fresh! I would've given 5 stars had my server been a little more interested in my dining experience. Just because i was a single patron doesnt mean im not a great tipper. After a long while and a long drive, I finally made it to the Monarch Diner, a sister to the former Red Lion Diner, in Red Lion, New Jersey, which closed a couple of years ago and eventually will be the site of a new Super Wawa. We had eaten at the Red Lion many times over the years, not only because it was local, but because it had a great menu, great staff, and a large vegetarian/vegan offering, in addition to normal diner fare. What I found at the other location is not what I had hoped for. I was greeted and seated quickly, and my hostess also asked for my drink order which came quickly. What didn't come quickly was my waitress, even though I was in a very busy area with weight staff, passing me all the time. I think I figured it out "formula" at the Monarch - if you are local and a regular, you are treated like gold. The weight staff will treat you like family and stand and talk to you at length. But if you're not one of that group, at least in my case, you'll be fairly ignored and treated as if you're more of a bother then an important customer - my waitress just wanted to get back to other tables that she was friendly with. When I asked about vegetarian items, since the other location had an entire menu, I was told by the hostess that my waitress would point out those items. Instead, I found them on my own, and there were only two and they were not favorites from the other restaurant. When my waitress finally showed, I pointed out an appetizer and an entrée which were similar, and asked whether or not there is a way to make the appetizer into an entrée. Without checking with anyone, the waitress shut me down and said those are two separate items and one is an app and one is an entrée... end of story. So I ordered the entrée, Eggplant Parmesan, it wasn't even asked for a choice of pasta. The entrée included a sparse salad served on a plate, not in a bowl. Someone else, not even my waitress, ran the food to my table. As I've said, inattentive service and I only saw my waitress again after I completed my entrée. When she asked if I was interested in dessert, instead of telling me that dessert was included and listing what that might include and offering me an upgrade to other items, I had to ask if any dessert was included before I got the standard list. Fortunately, the bread pudding to go was a good choice. They seem to be an abundance of staff hovering around the front of the restaurant, having a lot of fun, not having anything to do. One would think that management was lacking, but while I could see management walking around, they seemed oblivious to the fact that they were overstaffed, and people couldn't find anything to do. Just going through the paces, but certainly not greeting customers at their tables to find out what their experience was like. Maybe I am old school, but as they say, "if there is time to lean, there is time to clean!" Suffice it to say, two places owned by the same family may or may not offer the same experience and in this case, I am worn in the loss of the Red Lion even more. Since it was about a 45 minute drive, and I've got plenty of much better diners nearby, this was probably the last time I will try them Monarch. If you are local, and become one of their locals, you'll probably be treated really well. But if we're not, I can only say from experience that you'll be treated like no one cares. read more

How have I not reviewed Monarch diner. Definitely the best breakfast out there... everything, eggs in any form, French toast, omelettes, pancakes you name it! The old P&B Diner.... I have to say that this is one of my new favorite places. I've been driving past this place for quite a long time seeing it, but not paying it any attention. Stopping in one day in need of a takeout meal, I realized that I've been missing out on a really good diner.... Now I find myself here at least once every week. The hostess is always pleasant when greeting me and showing me to my table. The waitresses are always nice, attentive, and helpful when needed. And the food is always great beyond what I could expect. During the week, there is a specials page for breakfast and lunch. Great bargain prices for the amount of high quality food served. I'm tempted to call Monarch the highlight of the Glassboro restaurant scene. read more

Stopped in for breakfast this morning, plenty of free tables, a Monday morning. The waitress was very attentive, continually offering to refill our drinks the whole meal. My wife enjoyed her combo of pancakes, sausage, eggs, boxed around half of it to take home. My eggs Benedict came with not-warm home fries with lots of burned ones under a top layer that was cooked right. Apparently the cook shoved the overcooked, black and hardened potatoes left on the grill under the freshly cooked ones. An unpleasant surprise. The eggs were cooked right for the Benedict but they came on a very bland and doughy Bisquicky muffin with undercooked Canadian bacon. We hadn't been here in a while. Just too many great diners around here to go here for breakfast again, but like I said, my wife liked hers. read more

Classic diner in a nicely remodeled space. Huge menu, lots of dinner options that come with a bread basket (old-school style) and all the fixings. Lots of vegetarian & even vegan options, a full bar, and the litmus test... homemade rice pudding! The rice pudding was so good that I'll go back for that alone. The food itself was hearty, a bit plain but exactly what you expect from a diner. The chicken pasta soup was clearly homemade. I'll take fresh and under seasoned over reheated Sysco over salted (if you know, you know). Am I rounding up a little? Yeah maybe but spots like these are disappearing & the ones left are overpriced or turning into sports bar. Recommend supporting our diner tradition 100% because Jersey! read more

This is a first ... a cookie review only! I absolutely love cookies! They are my kryptonite of desserts (along w ice cream/frozen yogurt) . As much of a huge chocolate lover that I am, my favorite cookies are actually butter and sugar! These cookies were lacking something and weren't sweet enough for my taste. There were 4 of us. 2 of us ordered corned beef and cabbage special. It was beyond terrible. There was about a 1/2 of head of cabbage, 2 whole potatoes that looked like peeled baked potatoes and slices of dried out corned beef that was lunchmeat instead of a roast. So disappointing. When Monarch first opened we loved it, especially for breakfast. We frequented it quite often for a while. Then, shortly thereafter, the pandemic happened and we took a hiatus from dining out. Since we got back into dining out frequently over the last year or so, we realized it had been a while since we went back to Monarch. So on a Tuesday night when I didn't feel up to cooking and it was getting late, we decided to take the short ride around the corner to Monarch. I ordered an Arnold Palmer ( my go-to) and my husband ordered an unsweetened tea. I decided to go with a patty melt and my husband did the corned beef Reuben, both diner classics. They used to have steak fries back when they first opened, which I loved, and I noticed the fries have changed, but both of our entrees were very good. The patty melt was gooey and greasy, which is basically what you expect when you order a patty melt. The burger was juicy and the bread had the perfect amount of crispness and buttery goodness. Despite being full and eating way more than I should have, my husband insisted on trying the carrot cake. We were both pleasantly surprised to discover they had nailed the cream cheese icing to cake ratio completely. Honestly it was arguably some of the best carrot cake we've had in recent years. The cake was also moist, which is a word I hate using but needed to be said because it's rare to find a carrot cake so perfect. Our server made a few minor mistakes, but honestly she's human and it's a diner. Overall, it was a great experience and we will be back. read more

I've been to Monarch diner plenty of times as a local and I have never had the experience I had tonight. I was unaware that the diner closed at 9pm. I entered with one other guest at 8:30pm. We ordered right away, were never checked on, and then rudely given the bill about 5 minutes after our dishes came out. The receptionist was rude as well when we paid, very obviously annoyed we were still there 5 minutes before closing time. Not exactly the service I expected from Monarch. Arrived on a Sunday at 1145, the place was very busy, but our party of 3 got seated right away. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, I also noticed the other waitress in our section was also very polite to her customers. My wife ordered Cream Chipped Beef over Home Fries, my 12 year old son ordered plain Cheese Burger medium well w/Fries, and I got Ham and Chedder Cheese Omelet w/Home fries. From ordering to food arriving, it took 9 minutes. That's what you expect from a Jersey Diner. Had to send back my sons order because it came with all the fixings. It was a quick fix. My wife enjoyed her Cream Chipped Beef. She said it was not too salty like other diners we have been to. She gave her meal a 4/5 My omelet was pretty good. The English Muffin was the biggest English Muffin I've ever had. I give my meal a 3.5/5. Omelet was anything special, and cheese could have been more melted. My son liked his cheese burger. It was a decent size, and he said it was tasty. The fries were plentiful and cooked the way he likes them. He gave his meal a 4/5. Great experience here. Very friendly staff and it helps that they are constantly cleaning and keeping folks distanced. The service of food was quick as well. I didn't taste the soup but it was the soup that came with my tacos. I brought it home, but it smelled great. I came for TACOS. It was my first time trying beyond meat. They were good and generous with the avocado which I liked. I wish there was a salsa or something to top it but it was still yummy. My friend switched out the beef patty for Turkey and enjoyed her burger. And.. you cannot go wrong with fries. Love the fries. I also appreciate that you can enjoy adult beverages. We had mimosas. Solid diner located a few minutes from Rowan University Extensive menu with plenty of lunch and dinner specials every day We went with typical diner fare, Turkey club, panini, disco fries, and a fried Juno food sampler. Had dinner here with my family while in town. My lactose intolerant and vegan family members appreciate the vegan menu. My mom loves the grease truck items. I was just excited to enjoy diner food after a long time away from the Garden State. The complimentary bread basket is generous. The soups were really good. Loved my mom's crab soup, though my escarole soup was good too. I ordered flounder--something I can't get in Colorado--and it was tasty, in large portions too. As I was flying home the next morning, my mom took half of my food home for a meal later. The lemon potatoes were delicious, as was the stewed eggplant. They even have vegan ice cream options. We were too full for dessert, but our server kindly brought my niece a taste of the ice cream so she knows to save room next time. I tried it, and it was pretty good. My husband and I went to Monarch for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Richard was our waiter and we had a wonderful breakfast. Richard made sure to ask my husband if he would like onions and peppers in his potatoes and this reminded my husband that he loved that. I asked for chicken in my omelet and it was no problem. Went here on my birthday. I enjoy their chicken croquettes, best in the area, in my opinion. We have been here several times, and whatever we selected has always been very good. My family and I went to monarch to celebrate my granddaughters 1st birthday, my daughter brought the smash cake, when the server told us the manager told him if we wanted the cake cut it would be $4 a slice we never mentioned the cake. Then my daughter's order was forgotten then it was cold, we normally have a great experience but we will not be back. read more

We have eaten here often and are never disappointed. Breakfast is, by far, our favorite. I am the Goldilocks of French toast and theirs is just right. They make excellent omelets as well. Service is always pleasant and fast. Management seems to always be observing which is how all diners keep things moving well. The place is always clean and busy but never seems overwhelmed. The baklava cheesecake always comes home with me. As far as diners, the Monarch is an excellent option. I wish they still delivered. read more
