Really disappointing experience. The diner was dirty, and almost every table had dirty dishes sitting on it. The staff seemed more interested in chatting with each other than helping customers who were waiting to order. The food was below average I've had much better diner food elsewhere. To top it off, the honey mustard that came with my meal was clearly bad. It had separated and tasted off. When I brought it to the server's attention, he kept insisting it was "homemade." Instead of listening to the customer, he argued about it. Definitely won't be coming back. read more

What made it more special was the amazing waitress, Lisa! She was so kind, friendly, and remembered everything about each individual in our party! Stopped in for a late night Thanksgiving eve meal and to my surprise, they're kitchen was open until 1am! How incredible! The misses and I ordered two matzah ball soups with chicken noodle and also shared a DELICIOUS chicken parm with garlic bread. My goodness, the chicken parm was such an awesome portion and was simply scrumptious. The garlic bread servings were huge and really made the meal quite filling. Not only did we share the entre, we were even able to take 1/3rd home to go.. the portions are that generous. I was in town for the wedding of a close friend and my friend picked me up at the train and asked if I wanted to get breakfast. I had been traveling for several hours, was hungry and we went to the Golden Reef. It was a holiday weekend and the place was packed. I really thought we would have to wait but no, we were seated immediately and water arrived at the table. The waitress was very accommodating throughout our visit and we gave her our drink order. We both got coffees and the person filling our cups was very attentive and came by consistently to make sure our cups were filled. After talking for a bit, we gave our patient waitress our order. I got the cheeseburger, medium well which came with a pickle slice and cole slaw and was very tasty. My friend ordered the challah bread French toast with sausage. She was very happy with her selection. We stayed for a while after we finished our meals and were not rushed in any way. The ambience is very conducive to sitting and talking over your meal. They also have a gelato bar and a section of baked goods which looked very tempting. Was looking for a late night spot to have dinner and found this diner on Yelp! I was in Freeport and most spots were already closed by 10:30. Found this place open and made my way to Rockville. We were instantly seated, had one of the nicest servers. I got a small Matza ball soup which I think was okay. Needed more flavor and the small soup was in a really tiny bowl lol next was the chicken parm with garlic bread. So delicious! My favorite item of the night! Best part of the place is their kitchen closes by 1pm! It seems like this is the only place open this late, it started to get full. Glad I arrived before all of it. I was looking for pancakes in the area and I decided to come to this diner. I was by myself, so I sat by the countertop, and I wasn't greeted from a server with white hair all the gentlemen when I was trying to order my food. I want pancakes, home fries, and eggs. I want my home fries, crispy, and onions and peppers in it which I didn't even receive my home prize I wanted to pancakes edges to be crispy. He told me they can't do that as I sat down, I noticed the table was dirty later throughout my meal. I noticed two white mill sitting one on the left and one on the right, they will greet it no issue with their order and he was very helpful with them as I got my food. It's become a tradition that after Good Friday service a little group of us go to the diner to grab a snack. This diner serves nice portions of their food and it's good. Chicken fingers nice and crunchy, the bison burger was good too. I took a bite from my husbands burger and it was a light meat. Really enjoyed it. The cappuccino was a little too cold for my taste, I like my hot drinks to be boiling hot. The service was excellent, from the host, to the waiters accommodating our table set up and service. After trying Baldwin Diner, Golden Reef Diner was almost a huge sigh of relief in comparison. I wouldn't say its the best diner food, but it was decent! My fiance and I had a sudden craving for some classic diner breakfast and decided to swing by on a Saturday morning. As you can probably guess, it was packed! The small parking space out front fills up quickly. I ordered my usual 2 eggs with sausage & home fries, and he ordered his pancakes and side of corned beef hash. As mentioned, it was decent. The home fries definitely needed a good sprinkling of salt, a few dashes of hot sauce, and some ketchup. It was quite bland. Sausages were tasty but a little porky for my liking. Probably would try the turkey sausage next time. My fiance's corned beef hash satisfied cravings in a pinch, but did have the very classic metallic canned corned beef hash taste. Service was quick and efficient; no pleasantries thrown in. But they were super attentive with our coffee refills, so that's really all I can ask for. read more

They charged the person of course she foul mouth was sleeping at the register. She didn't even hand him the food. The best part was when I called up. she got nasty to me. I have pictures. I even said I'd go with a police officer and she still didn't wanna get back even 1/2 the money .... Buyer beware this service is horrible. Misrepresentation of prices: Buyer Beware: went here tonight for a nice holiday dinner. When entering the lobby we saw the board listing the dinner specials. My boyfriend saw the Romanian steak listed first and decided upon it. When we sat down, we opened the menu to the specials page and it wasn't listed on it so we asked our waitress to confirm that it was in fact on the specials because it was on the front board when you walked into the diner. She confirmed that it absolutely was. We ordered our food and when the check arrived, we saw that we were charged the regular menu price for the Romanian steak, Which was $48.95, almost $20 more than any of the specials listed! I brought this to the attention of the owner and another man behind the register. One of them had the audacity to say that the board listing the specials when you first walk in was wrong and that the Romanian stake wasn't on the specials. I explained to them that that's very confusing and that we did in fact confirm that it was on the specials with our waitress. After standing there for 10 minutes while they decided what to do they came back and they said they were giving me two dollars off my bill! If a customer can't rely on the representations, made about the specials on a list in big letters on a sign right when they walk in the door and or the advisement of their waitress, when a customer expresses their confusion about the board and the menu,then the diner should rectify the problem or at the very least give the customer some sort of fair accommodation for the diner's mistake. At the very least, they should make sure that their employees know the correct answer to a direct question. They should truly be ashamed of themselves! This is my go to spot whenever, everyone can't agree on a certain cuisine. They have alittle bit of everything for everyone. The staff is dressed with their dress pants, white collared shirts with a vest. You really get that real diner experience. Fresh baked goods in the showcase as you walk in, on your left, fresh gelato case on the right. While prices have gone up a bit, the food still is consistent and good. I love coming here for breakfast. Their pancakes are fantastic. My favorite are the chocolate chip pancakes with their cornbeef hash as my second favorite breakfast option. But their burgers here are always a great comfort food too. Almost everything I've ordered here has been amazing, minus the french toast. I've given the french toast 2 tries, but each time, they were burnt. So that's the only bad thing I've ordered in my over 10 yrs of coming here. Their paninis are large and generous. As well as their souvlaki platter. One surprising offer here is their large variety of fresh gelato, which has been featured on several famous food forums. The prices - like prices everywhere these days - were eye watering and made me rethink what I wanted to order. My companion ordered a Belgian waffle with an egg and assorted meats. All perfectly cooked and he was happy. I ordered a roast beef French dip on garlic bread with mozzarella covered French fries. Sad to say the roast beef was very well done and the garlic bread was a kaiser roll with no garlic flavor. The fries were devoid of flavor. The coleslaw was disappointing.
