The everything-you-want-in-a-diner experience happens at this gem! Tiny space - it's a train car wedged between building but you can't tell from the exterior. And it is bustling inside- quick, kind service with the two guys who are masters of the grill slinging out amazing omelettes, great pancakes, perfect home fries, and a truly amazing looking BEC (need to go back and order that next time). Prices are absolutely reasonable, portions are big and the dishes they're serving are classic. I got an omelette, home fries and toast; my husband got scrambled eggs pancakes and bacon. And the bacon was a delight- not the skimpy strips you might expect. Enjoy your meal, but get out soon and let the next people in line have your space- it's the diner-y thing to do! Star Diner is one of the few places in Westchester that still gives me that true nostalgic diner feel. Sitting in the cramped train car style space and watching the chef cook right in front of you if you sit at the bar makes it feel like a classic diner experience you cant really find anymore. This is the old fashion diner from years ago. Serves old standard diner menu which I must say was excellent. May not be to everyone's liking since it's not geared to the young so called "hip" crowd, which didn't matter to me because I was looking for the old fashion comfort foods from years ago which the younger crowd doesn't know they're missing. You can keep your salads, pitas, vegan, and "alternative meat free" burgers. I'll take the good old fashion ones that tasted great from my younger years! Friendly, personable people working behind the counter. The person sitting next to me said he had been coming to this diner for 10 years. Neighborhood vibe. The space is a bit cramped when full (it was full at 12pm on a Thursday). The prices are reasonable. The food was good. The turkey sausage was a little bland but then again turkey sausage is rarely that amazing. The home fries were both soft and well fried - yum. My main hang up with this place is that it's in White Plains which is perhaps one of the worst places to park I have ever come across. (You have to pay meters at the Target for reference.) The town is like extortionate when it comes to parking generally and the meters across the street require quarters which is annoying. I find the town a bit inhospitable and am rarely around but would gladly come back to the diner if I am in the area. read more

I was looking for a diner. I could take my found this little diner in White Plains. Across from the hospital. They are cash only so bring your paper money. Very nice inside classic diner from 90 years ago. You could sit at the counter on the old style stools or slipping into a comfortable booth. The waitress and brought us out menus. They have specials across from the booths that you can read tacked up I noticed the prices were amazingly low. Grilled cheeseburger deluxe. $9.00 Pizza burger $9.25 Two eggs toast, and your choice of bacon ham sausage $7.50. Other diners are definitely 40 to 50% more I decided to order the dinner, brisket of beef with with potato and vegetable. Your choice of tasty home fries, french fries mashed potatoes or a a broiled potato I chose the french fries. Gravy with the brisket. my dinner came out with a nice piece of bread delicious looking gravy and a very nice portion of brisket. The french fries were crispy on the outside and a nice potato taste on the inside. The brisket had a good flavor. The gravy tasty and I don't think they used a gravy that had MSG in it. my mother enjoyed the fish and chips a Swiss grilled cheese sandwich but it looked good The rice pudding was delicious. I definitely recommend coming here to try breakfast cheeseburger or one of the dinner choices. The meatloaf looked very good. I saw it going out to another customer. Born and raised in White Plains, I've been going to the Star Diner ever since I was a kid. The place has been a neighborhood staple for over 50 years, and has always come through for us when we were hungry at any hour of the day/night. Unfortunately as of late (particularly during/after Covid), the place has struggled to maintain its allure (at least for this hungry patron) and particularly after this morning's episode with the manager Jack, who I've always been on good terms with-right up until the time he got extremely rude with me this morning because I voiced my disappointment (which I rarely do) that the BLT I was served (who makes a BLT with only 3 small slices of bacon???) Needless to say, it's not likely I'll be returning there anytime soon, at least not while he's there. As a local business owner myself, I know all about proper etiquette, service and customer relations. (Evidently, some folks forget this after being in the game for so long.) Maybe it's time to hang things up?? It's really too bad, because I really did like going there for a quick & relatively inexpensive bite from time to time. To Jack: Ya gotta do better next time, dude. If you did it to me, you'll do it to anyone. Granted, we all have bad days-but your attitude this morning was completely unacceptable and warrants a sincere apology (not only to me, but the dozen or so other patrons that were in the restaurant that were completely shocked at your behavior.) Very NY diner. Typical fries not greasy which is good. My bunless burger was good just wish it was bigger but it was cooked to perfection and cheese was melted just right. No parking lot here it is street parking and we found parking around the corner. The Hospital is across the street. My husband's bacon was pretty good and crispy. Loved my pickle too! The waitress was friendly. Their mayonnaise was sooo good it tasted homemade. Wish I had more of it. Sliced tomatoes were juicy and very fresh! We also ordered a coke and a pepsi and they came in their own bottles which I didn't mind. I bet they make a perfect NY bacon, egg and cheese here. Give it a try! read more

In Westchester for a family event and decided to take a walk for breakfast. Yelp led us here based on a four and a half star rating. I'd however give it a four for ambiance- loved the cool old-time diner vibe of the place. Food-wise- they get three stars. I ordered an egg and cheese omelette with onions which was served to me cold with unmelted cheese and partially cooked onions. The well-done home fries were marginal and my bagel was subpar for a New York bagel. Hubby said his corned beef hash was not cooked well enough and bland. Overall the place was nothing to write home about. Also, if you do go,be prepared to pay with cash. They do have an ATM when you enter if needed. read more

This tiny hole in the wall diner was surprisingly good. Reminds me of a Waffle House design but much better food. Came in 10 am on a Tuesday and it was packed. Only two seats at the bar open so be prepared for a morning rush. The service is a little slow cause there's only one server and one cook but bare with them, it's worth the wait. Food comes out piping hot and fresh. The corned beef was canned but good. The home fries were a little bland but good texture. My over easy egg was perfect. A big note is this diner is CASH ONLY. We forgot Star Diner only accepts cash, but there's an ATM in the restaurant so you can always withdraw some cash as needed! Star Diner looks just like your typical diner - bussin', lively, and packed! But the service was still so quick! I did have to use the bathroom here and the reviews talking about the bathroom here were definitely not exaggerations! When they say it's small, it is definitely tiny!! There was JUST enough room to sit down on the toilet. You have to sidestep to get to the toilet and wash your hands after. Just a fair warning but don't let the tiny bathroom stop you from coming here! My husband ordered a grilled cheeseburger and it looked oddly sad?? It was strange how it was served open face on slices of bread, but once we put them together - OOF! It was the perfect amount of savory, buttery, and cheesy. Don't let this difference get in the way of ordering the grilled cheeseburger! I also ended up ordering the pancakes with eggs! The pancakes were huge and so filling! The eggs were also mild in taste, but we ended up liking that because they tasted so comforting. Overall, Star Diner definitely deserves 5 stars! Our favorite diner in Westchester is BLD in Larchmont/New Rochelle so we were surprised to find a diner with White Plains that actually had good diner food! We will definitely be returning! The food also came out relatively quickly and at a good pace so kudos to the team on that. You can see the team cooking and at work right over the counter. Food: Very tasty and didn't disappoint. I had a great spinach and tomato omelette with home fries and toast + a single pancake. The omelette was delicious. The single pancake was slightly burnt but still tasty, I could live with it. My fiancé loved it haha so we differed on that one. My orange juice was given to me right from the Tropicana paper box vs. a glass but that was fine (just unexpected) and he had a coffee which he really enjoyed and said would go back for. Appreciate the team keeping yummy good and affordable diner food alive! We need more places like this. Payment: cash restaurant only, there is an ATM out front. It was quite obvious they had loyal regulars. As for the environment, what you see from the window is what you get. The place is pretty small, but like someone else said, it has the cozy feel of that typical American diner (though for the most part, it is Spanish lol). The food is decent.
