More like 3.5 stars. It's an average diner so you get exactly what you'd expect. Shout out to their massive salad menu. I had the Texas fries, mozzarella sticks, and the chefs salad. Everything was good, nothing special. The house dressing is really good. I also took a bite of the southern quesadilla and it was fine. Take note of the cookies in the front. They're MASSIVE. Hostess rudely told us "move over there" so that an approaching customer could come to the register; she needs training! The wait staff was meh: needed to be asked to refill waters, didn't check on us, then asked "could you leave now. " We did have a two hour lunch, but most of the tables were empty, and we could have been spoken to politely. staff needs training. I ordered a chicken salad club( safe diner food) but the chicken salad could have been a watery tuna ( over mashed to pulp, no flavor, celery, just watery mayo). Bacon was ok, iceberg okay, tasteless slices of pale tomato. the potato salad was inedible. it seemed to have been made in a food processor and was overly processed leaving mush and a few strips. Flavor was off. my friend had a burger and fries: the fries were usual frozen and fried but the burger looked twice cooked: all dry, burnt on one have , medium well on the other, tough all around. while diners are not known for gourmet fare, they are known for some classics. This is a neighborhood diner that serves GLUTEN FREE PANCAKES! I repeat: GLUTEN FREE PANCAKES!! Okay, I'm calm. I had to get that out. This is a great diner that has great GF options. The pancakes are large, light and fluffy. They have large portions for fair prices. As a group we had the pancakes, of course, bacon, home fries, cheese eggs and an egg white omelet for me. (It makes me feel less glutinous ) I had a cappuccino that was so pretty when presented and yummy upon consumption. They have frappuccinos and hot coco with whipped cream. Came for breakfast last week. I have ordered from here multiple times, but have never ate inside the diner. The food is great is why I am giving 2 stars - but the service was lacking. The food was good - they forgot to give my avocado & turkey bacon (i ended up saying to not worry and I will eat without). The waitress just seemed unfriendly and like she did not want to be there. Only diner I found that has beef liver smothered with caramelized onions. It practically melted in my mouth. Absolutely delicious!! If you like liver, you must get it from here. Hi Yelp friends. Welcome to Mitchell's Diner located in Oceanside, Long Island. Thanks to my Yelp friend Jason C. for introducing me to this neighborhood family-owned Diner. I'm very small business-friendly and Mitchell's Diner seemed perfect for breakfast today. I ordered their super-deluxe breakfast special. What a meal !! The breakfast came with coffee, eggs with Challah French toast, pancakes with ham, bacon and fat link sausages. The breakfast sausages were the best. Hot and freshly prepared, they squirted when I cut into them. Breakfast didn't quit here and was big enough to feed a crew of lumberjacks. Featuring fluffy pancakes, French toast bacon and ham! My meal was soo tasty, I ate it all. I returned for lunch here a few days later for their delicious meatloaf lunch special. Lunch was served with mashed potatoes, gravy and corn on the cob. Coffee, bread basket. A choice of soup was also included with this lunch special. At just $13.95, I found it to be a great deal. I returned recently an ordered their juicy, sweet, delicious, homemade fried chicken in the basket. It wasn't a lunch special but I'm a fried chicken fanatic and I had to have it. I paired my chicken with cranberry and hot gravy for dipping. Damn, this was the best fried chicken I've had in years. And yes, their mashed potatoes are real. Buttery and delicious the consistency was perfect. This is one meal that I personally have to recommend to all guests. My lunches arrived quickly nice and hot, leaving plenty time to eat and get back to work. In summation, I was very pleased with my deluxe breakfast and meatloaf lunch special. The hospitality was courteous and the food was on point. Mitchell's is definitely recommended by Big Jim. If you're looking for unpretentious first class treatment and homestyle fare you'll be happy here. PS.. Please don't forget to order their "secret" homemade, freshly cooked chocolate pudding with homemade whipped cream. You'll end your meal perfectly. read more

This is about the actions of a racist hostess.I work for DoorDash, upon entering this business I was Greeted by the hostess, "who at the time asked me why am I here for?" I politely said "afternoon I'm with door dash and I'm picking up food for Arielle". The hostess then said "let me check" she came back out looked for the ticket for the order and said "im bagging it up right now" 10minutes go by and I ask her in a joking manner "miss are you sure they are not making the order now instead of bagging it?" The hostess says to me "I don't work for you people, can't you see I'm busy?" I said "miss "I'm only asking because I have been waiting for this order for over 20min and if I've been waiting that long I can imagine how long the customer is waiting" she says to me again "I don't work for you people, what's the order Ariel? Here it is right here" slams the bag of food on the counter and tells me to "take my shit and leave", her comments are racist, all I could say was "have a nice day". I informed the customer who told me they will not be ordering from This establishment again and I have informed door dash. I don't care how the food taste, and honestly I don't know how the other waitresses are, all I can speak on is my experience with that one hostess who trust me I am waiting to talk to the manager and I will find out her name and post it here for you guys. We want to like Mitchell's very badly due to proximity and convenience. We've been trying repeatedly since they re-opened several years ago. Unfortunately today will probably be our last time. We've read many negative reviews over the years about poorly treated staff, lack of accommodating children and generally poor service. Despite all of this, we've continued to patronize. The food is reasonably good. We mostly order takeout, and rarely have we walked out of there feeling well serviced (mind you, its's just takeout...) Too often, our to-go order comes with a free side of attitude. The simplest things seem to annoy. Our go-to for my daughter is the grilled cheese kids meal. She is a very picky eater, but loves the grilled cheese and the added bonus is that it comes with ice cream and juice. On today's episode - we were told they are no longer offering kids meals to-go. Upon questioning, they said we could still order it, but that it would not come with dessert and a drink. Fine. Whatever. At pick-up, there were no smiles to be had from the staff. We were criticized for not clarifying that our order was over the phone and not online. We were then scoffed at for trying to pay the wrong person. Nothing unusual, nothing extreme, just a common visit to Mitchell's. Turns out we were charged for an adult grilled cheese sandwich and separate side of french fries, about double the price of the kids meal. Nothing outstanding, just another eye-roller. Seems to me like they need to nickel-and-dime to make up for a probable drop in sales due to their negative reputation. While not one thing or one event in particular has led to our decision not to return, there's also nothing clawing us back for more. We'll get reasonably good food elsewhere moving forward. read more

Much smaller than the original diner but still a good place to go for a quick bite and awesome ice cream! I had the buffalo chicken wrap and it was very good. Their pistachio ice cream is to die for!!! So delicious! They have a lot of choices for sundaes and floats so choose wisely! Family oriented place and if you come during prime time, there may be a little wait. Parking lot is super small so make sure you try parking to the side of the building in the larger lot, don't try to squeeze in the tiny lot up front. read more

The extremely rude manager went up to the 2 year old and said "I'll take that" then grabbed the table top menu out of the kids hand. The kid wasn't bothering anyone around us. We ordered 2 unsweetened iced teas and mozzarella sticks to start. Both arrived quickly and were delicious . For dinner we had an order of French toast and eggs with corned beef hash, side of fries and toast. While the corned beef hash was not our favorite, overall it was a great meal. The food was good however I ordered a gyro with fries on the side. There were perhaps 8 fries on my plate. I asked if this was the norm I was told yes. First time coming here yesterday Sunday morning, for breakfast with family. I like the variety of breakfast food in their menu. I love peanut butter which I don't usually see in most diner menus. Saw it here and gladly Ordered one funny named dish- fluffernutter! Challah French toast with chunky peanut butter and melted marshmallows. So yummy! I wished they put a bit more peanut butter though. My bro ordered croissant royale with cream cheese and strawberries. The croissant could have been bigger for the price and we were expecting the cream cheese to be those creamy whipped and slightly sweet type. It seemed they put the regular cream cheese that you would put on a harder bagel. Staff was nice, service was good, decor was common for diner, I like the booths, Typical diner prices. Met colleagues there for a Saturday morning breakfast meeting at 7am. Original waitress was fine, food was delicious and plenty although no grits or cream of wheat which some guests wanted Reviewing spreadsheets with colleagues and the diner at 60% occupancy another waitress cane over and made a comment about how "we were holding her up" and we needed "to vacate the space."
