My husband and I have been coming here for almost 10 years. They have a good verity of glasses and sunglasses frames. Service has been great too. However we may consider stop going there because we found out they started to charge 3% surcharge on credit card payment. Nowadays, I have rarely see any places still charge a fee for credit card payment, let alone a 3% charge! I heard this is a new company policy since March 2025. So this would affect all branch stores under Golden. It is very unfortunate the company would make this unwise decision in a competitive market like this. I recently had a very disappointing experience at golden vision. From the moment I walked in, the service was subpar. The staff seemed disinterested and unhelpful, making me feel like a nuisance rather than a custome when they found out im using insurance. (The sale section, not the optometry office.) I had hoped to use my insurance, but it quickly became apparent that they were not happy with the process and often provided conflicting information. It felt like a scam. The older ladies who helped me seem to lost interest when i opt for the frames that insurance cover then the brand name ones. When I finally received my glasses, they were not what I expected. It was a different ones completely. If you read other reviews, i'm not the first one that this happened to, and when I tried to address it, the staff was uncooperative and defensive. I think it's habitual for them to act and run business this way. I will not be coming back. Please stay away. They use the cheapest lens and frames for their customers, unless you are paying triples of other stores such as lencrafters and costco. If you have insurance, I strongly advise against visiting this store. Save yourself the hassle and seek a more reputable place that values its customers and provides quality service. Worst bait and switch scheme ever! Called this place to make an appointment and provided them with the insurance information to check. The admin lady checked the insurance and simply told me everything was covered and told me to come in. Came in and the person at the counter gave me a complete different story! Told me the glasses were only covered a little bit and I would have to pay a lot out of pocket. So they lied to get me to come in and then once I'm there, they switched the story. Also, I had an appointment and I still had to wait 15min to be called. What exactly are appointments for if you don't follow the time?! AVOID! My whole family have been coming here to see Dr Huang for over 25 years, since my daughters had the ortho-K treatments in elementary school. Later in 1999, I had my Lasik surgery referral and follow up checkups by Dr. Huang with perfect vision for over 20+ years. Dr. Huang is always friendly and has lots of patience in answering questions and concerns. Their frame selections are on the high end with lots of choices. We've been through lots of staffs over the years, all of them are friendly and helpful. I called on Wednesday to ask if appointment were being taken and was then placed on hold for over 5 minutes by a man who said he was going to attend to customers he had so I hung up. I then submitted a request on their website for an appointment time and the message said someone would call me to confirm but it's now Saturday and no one has yet called me. Sadly I'm still looking for an optometrist that can see me as most in the area have told me they're booked for the month :( Update: immediately after I posted this review, did I get a text to confirm my online appointment. Sometimes I feel like the quality of care you get is hit or miss depending on which doctor you get. I do like the convenience of the optometry location because it's so close to 99 ranch. I will say though only come here if you are willing to insist on your needs and go out of your way to schedule extra appointments. I have been a patient of Golden Rowland Heights for about 20 years now, and been a patient of Dr. Chen's for just as long. Today's "visit" dropped the ball on their professionalism, courtesy, and putting patient's care and time at the forefront of their service. I made this annual check-up appointment weeks ago because Dr. Chen only works here 3 days a week (Sun, Mon, Fri) so his schedule books weeks out. Prior to the visit, I received countless texts and phone calls reminding me of my appointment. I arrived early today as they had stated numerous times. Walk up to the counter and I tell them that I have a 2 pm appointment with Dr. Chen. The receptionist proceeds to tell me that Dr. Chen is not here. I was confused, "What do you mean he isn't here? I made this appointment weeks ago and even confirmed with Ken yesterday." Then they tell me he had a family emergency. I totally understand family emergencies but why am I learning about this now? I doubt the family emergency JUST happened. The staff here, and even the Manager (Jen) had no decency to call Dr. Chen's patients to let them know he was unavailable so we could have the option to reschedule if we wanted to. I am not here for an emergency visit or a weekly visit. I am here for an annual eye exam, for which I would like to see Dr. Chen due to continuity of care. IF they had the concern and thought of the patients, call me first so I do not need to waste my time and take time off of work (1/2 a day) for this appointment. They just assumed that I would see another doctor. Uh... what is wrong with this thought? No care for the patient's first and foremost concern. I have been a loyal customer for years, and it IS NOT due to cost because EVERYONE knows that Golden costs an arm and a leg. Evidently, loyalty for its patients are not the other way around. I called the Manager, Lillian, at the San Gabriel location to also complain about this lack of service and horrible training. Also spoke to Wing there as he has helped me with my eyeglasses fittings for also over a decade. For a customer oriented business, they do not put the customer first. It is appalling that this thought of calling the patients did not even cross their mind. They continually "hound" you to remind you of your appointment but do not care to even reach out if there is a change to yours. What is wrong with this logic? Without any patients, this is an empty business = closure. An example of great customer service: My dentist's office called today early afternoon to let me know that my original dentist will be not available on the day of my appointment and asked if I would like to see the other dentist or reschedule. THAT is called customer service and putting the patients first. Not making the decision for me. I miss the old management. Elsa was a wonderful manager and was always fair with her pricing. Customer service was wonderful but this new management has a lot to learn or I will take my business elsewhere, even though Dr. Chen has been my optometrist for over a decade. ---------------- Update 10/11/2021: I do not appreciate being lied to. When I had my appointment yesterday with Dr. Chen, I mentioned to him all that happened on my previous visit. He mentioned that he had told his employers on Monday, at least 4 days prior to Friday, that he would not be able to be in on Friday due to family. Golden Vision staff had at least 4.5 days to notify Dr. Chen's patients if they would like to reschedule. EVEN if he was out Friday morning due to a family emergency, the managers should direct the staff to call the patients, at least the ones with annual eye exams, if they would like to reschedule or see another Dr. NONE of this is Dr. Chen's fault, life happens, but the staff need to step up their customer service. They never gave me the option to and wasted my afternoon. As a person who works full-time and plans their time off by the minute, this unnerves me. I hope this is a learning lesson because the staff are only as good as its managers. read more

Almost 10 years, I've been using this Golden Rowland Heights Optometry for my eye exam and contact lenses renew every year. All the eye doctors and staff are very professional and efficient. I don't book specific Eye Doctor each time I visit since every doctor that I visit there is very patient and professional. They will explain all the details regarding my eye condition and issues may cause during aging or incorrect eye care. Every single question that I ask, they gave me a full and knowledge answer based on their expertise. Other stuff are also very supportive and helpful. They will try to figure out the best deal for my payment either by insurance or without it as well as the rebates and gifts. That's why I come back to their store every year. I recently had an appointment and arrived on time. However, the receptionist was busy and didn't check me in until around 11 minutes after my scheduled time. I understand that things are hectic sometimes, especially on a weekend, but it was what they did after that bothered me. After checking in and waiting 15-20 more minutes to be seen, someone comes up to me and tells me that they will have to reschedule my appointment because the doctor is running behind since I was "late". I said ok, sure, assuming it was because I arrived right on the dot even though that seemed like a strange policy and it seemed like that was my only option anyway. However, it was brought up in our phone call today when I was rescheduling an appointment that their records wrote down I was late, which led me to the conclusion that they rescheduled me because THEY WERE THE ONES WHO CHECKED ME IN LATE. I even asked a woman working there on the day they rescheduled me to double check that it was my fault and she said it was. I think it's unfair when a business punishes their customers for something they should be responsible for. I'll probably be back because of a matter of convenience, but this interaction has left a sour note that I will be more wary of in the future. read more
