Very popular with the locals. The manager said it's crowded early in the mornings, so expect a wait unless you get here before the doors open. You can get a seat faster if you are willing to share a table with strangers. Say... Who is that, trying to eat my pork bun? Usual old school carts are pushed around often. The usual dim sum suspects are served piping hot. Tried various dishes. Good but not great. Many private rooms in the back for large parties. Each private room are equipped with their own A/V system with Karaoke (for those less timid). My favorite were the shao mai. I've rarely seen a place put in so many mushrooms! My least favorite were the taro puffs. Were these just taken out of the fridge? But at least they give you four! But on the smaller sized than normal. Some parking beside the restaurant.

The story followed two dim-sum cart ladies working for Golden Palace 新迎喜海鮮酒樓, and was in part about the waning era of dim-sum cart service. Interestingly, much of the video was in Cantonese, itself a waning language. We faintly remembered that video and visited the restaurant on a rainy summer weekend. The dim-sum at Golden Palace was actually kind of mediocre. The beef tripe was coarsely cut. The taro puffs were served cold. The chicken feet lacked flavor. The siu mai was OK, but couldn't hold together. However, there was a huge variety of dim-sum, seemingly much more than in many places in Downtown Flushing, Queens. There is strong local support for Golden Palace. We observed friendly banter between staff and long-time customers. An unwritten "rule" for most dim-sum restaurants is that one should arrive by 11 AM and be seated without a wait. We arrived to a queue of waiting customers at around 10 AM, but were seated quickly because we were willing to share a table (搭枱) with others. There was a much larger queue by the time we left. We overheard a manager explaining that the restaurant pretty much fills up when it opens. Line cutting (queue jumping) can be an issue here. The couple who we initially sat with were eventually replaced by a family who discretely skipped the waitlist. Service was good, and slightly old-school in that the bill was manually calculated instead of run through a bill print. Empty plates were regularly removed by staff. The restrooms were adequately maintained. Golden Palace has a parking lot that was already full when we arrived; we found parking on a side street behind the restaurant.

Not much has changed, which is a VERY good thing. + Dim sum is as good as it gets here.
