Class was good and I learned a lot as a new rider. The instructors covered the material well and gave useful information throughout the course. One thing I noticed though was that Kyle's teaching style is very hands-off. As a brand-new learner, it sometimes felt more like a "you'll learn if you make mistakes" approach rather than more active guidance and correction. Some people may prefer that style, but beginners who need more step-by-step coaching may struggle a bit. Also, I wish there were early morning class options. Riding from 12pm-4pm can get really hot, especially for beginners wearing full gear out in the sun. Overall still a good class experience, just a few things I think could make it better. read more

Arin, Ray, and Kyle were excellent instructors. In just two Zoom sessions, Arin gave us enough information to pass the written test. All I had to do was pay attention. On the range, Ray and Kyle were direct and firm but patient and encouraging. Off the range, they were professional and friendly. I've never ridden a motorcycle before, and the last time I really rode a bicycle was as a teen, 30+ years ago. They still manged to teach this old dog new tricks. As someone who is 5'4 and has never ridden a bike before, this was honestly one of the best experiences I could've had. Huge huge shoutout to Rakesh for going through the lessons with me (all of us) so patiently and kindly. All the instructors were incredibly nice and went through each lesson and practice at a great pace, and consistently repeated the lessons + "things to remember" over and over, which really helped me to remember the basics of riding. Rakesh especially remembered each individuals riding from the day / lesson before and gave specific tips for each person that helped to improve their riding. Because of the way GSM teaches the basics of riding, basics of the machine, and dangers of riding/the road, it really helped me to pass my DMV test on the first try. I had ridden motorcycles before in other countries, but it had been a while since I'd last ridden a motorcycle, and wanted to get back to riding in the US. Figured that to get a motorcycle's license in CA, you can do the written test and then do a motorcycle safety course, which waives the driving part at the DMV. Given the road rage and state of traffic I have seen in San Jose, I decided to go for this and it was a great decision. The instructors were very helpful, inviting, and knowledgeable. They provide motorcycles and all the gear you would need (helmet, gloves, boots) to ride during the training, so that was great. Although I had ridden motorcycles before, there were lot of people in my class who had never ridden one, and the instructors were very helpful in getting them situated and comfortable. I'll highly recommend this course for beginners as well as people who used to ride but have not in a while. I myself will be signing up for the advanced course once I get a new motorcycle. read more

The only prior knowledge I had coming into this class is I knew how to drive a manual car and I rode a bicycle a lot as a kid. This course helped me go from never having ridden a motorcycle to earning my skills waiver and passing my license knowledge test. Thank you Mycah! I took a 2-Day course with Mycah as my sole instructor. Day 1 is a 3hr zoom class where you go over about half of the 9 Units you cover in the course. Then you meet up at the SJ Masonic Range and it's about 5 hours of practical instruction. Luckily I live about 15mins away so the commute was short but keep that in mind depending on where you live. They will provide helmets, gloves and a bike to ride but you must wear the proper clothing (which they detail before the class). I brought my own gloves. Both on Zoom and in person, Mycah's pacing, straightforward approach and explanations, made it easy for me to pick up new skills and then build upon them. She broke things down into very understandable but crucial parts of handling a motorcycle and by the first break, I already felt an incredible level of confidence that I would be able to learn the basic skills of safely riding a motorcycle. Riding is physically challenging. I was expecting it to be physical, but it was more so than I expected. Form and position is intrinsic to your success at handling the bike and it definitely activated muscles in my wrist, back and legs that I rarely use. Wasn't exactly sore, but I see why it's fatiguing to ride for very long. Luckily, Mycah staggered the breaks so that we could stretch, use the restroom and refuel as needed. I think many people did a big lunch during the break and called it good. Personally, I brought a cold lunch and both days ate my full sandwich and chips over the course of the breaks. Day 2 was only about a 2hr Zoom class where you finish the units and then we met at the Range for a 50 question written exam and then another 5 hour practical. It was made very clear that except for weather than needed to be cancelled for, it was our responsibility to dress appropriately for the weather. It did rain toward the end of the second half of Day 2 so I was glad I had a short raincoat and a change of clothes. It ended up not being too bad, but I could definitely have seen wanting to change in order to keep warm if the rain had started even an hour earlier. Day 2 was much more involved and ends with a skills assessment that, if you pass, earns you a DL389 waiver that entitles you to only have to take the written knowledge test at the DMV. This was important for me because I want to earn my license but I don't have a bike yet and therefore no way to actually pass that portion at the DMV. The way Mycah relayed the information throughout the course made it easy to recall for the knowledge tests. There was also a lot of personal correction, tips, and specific attention throughout the training. She also gave us the CRITICAL insight to the DMV process, which is that I would have to RETAKE the Motor Vehicle DL Exam, in addition to the M1 Exam, because it's been more than 12 months since I took the DL exam. That was true. The class was Tues and Wed and I was able to take the knowledge exams via the DMV Virtual Test center on Friday and passed both! Now, I can legally purchase and ride a bike, as I continue to grow my skills. My class was initally 5 people and we added a 6th (that person switched courses and was completing the second part I think) and during the skills assessment a 7th person showed up for a retest. I really liked the small class size and felt like I got the attention I needed to learn to ride safely. This has been an incredible experience during which I earned my M1 license and I am definitely interested in taking more of the intermediate courses once I purchase my own motorcycle. Awesome time! My daughter and I just finished our training today and had a most wonderful two day class learning how to ride motorcycles. Our Zoom teacher was Arden and she was awesome! Very easy to understand and excellent at explaining topics. This was all especially helpful since classes started at 7:30 AM sharp. She kept everyone's attention and made class interesting. First day of riding was taught by Mycah and Steven. These two are excellent teachers and are very good at explaining techniques. The second and final day of training was done by Steven and Arden. Arden is an excellent teacher at explaining what needs to be corrected and changed to make you a better and safer rider. Steven is a super personable teacher. He's also great at explaining and giving pointers on how to become a safer and better motorcycle rider. Real good person! Actually the three of them (Arden, Mycah and Steven) are all super nice and very personable at instructing people on how to become safer riders! My daughter and I loved this class and had just a great time meeting the other riders as well. Isaac & Cesar made my experience so much fun while learning valuable life saving skills, they see your potential so they can push you to do better & better with each drill. And boy are they patient. About my personal experience - I opted for the 2 day course. Both days start with a 2 - 3 hour zoom session that covers some theory around what you will be working on during the riding sessions. My instructors for these sessions were Arden and Mycah. Both of them were very engaging, answered any questions we had and set a nice tone for the rest of the day with their positive energy and pleasantness. As someone who is often on zoom calls, I understand how difficult it can be to host a lengthy session like this, but both Arden and Mycah made it look so so simple. I couldn't believe how fast time flew by and how much of the material I recalled for the written test that followed. The 2nd part of the day is the riding session. I got to practice various skills like cornering, braking, counter steering under the watchful eyes of the instructors. The first day involves getting familiar with your motorcycle and its various controls and doing some simple exercises like shifting up, shifting down, body positioning on turns etc. Mycah and Shayon were our instructors on the first day and both of them were extremely helpful in catching small mistakes, bad habits that I had and correcting them. They were extremely patient with the beginners and gave me actionable feedback to make improvements. Mycah helped correct my foot placement, Shayon helped with the head and shoulder positioning on turns. The 2nd day exercises are a bit more involved, with technique performed at higher speed with lesser margins for error and also the last part of the day involves the actual licensing test (which is a rehash of the skills you have practiced over the 2 days - so no surprises). My instructors for this day were Isaac and Kyle - once again 2 instructors whose passion for motorcycles and positive instruction are very inspiring and I paid more attention to everything I was doing because I really didn't want to disappoint such wonderful instructors :). All the instructors know how to give precise feedback without sounding condescending or being rude. Isaac's 1 minute demonstration of counter steering was so enlightening compared to hours and hours of time I have spent reading and watching tutorials on the topic online. Kyle similarly helped to improve my braking technique and I could see the improvement over each repetition I performed during the exercise. Pretty amazing experience and got a chance to ride a motorbike after a gap of 16 good years. I was referred to GSM by my friend who had recently attended their safety course. The registration process was a breeze though finding spots that would work given my work schedule got a bit challenging though nothing too complicated or difficult. Having that out of the way , i got an email from their team a day or so in advance, preparing me for the class. Prema was our instructor for the delivering the online part of the safety program. This would be a total of close to 5 hours or spanning over two evenings. He was very detailed in his talk and made sure that we understood the concepts. He popped questions along the way that definitely did help reenforce what we learned that far and as well prepare for the eventual written exam. He definitely gave us realtime examples and made learning a fun process which easily could have been a long boring 5 hours with some dry content around bikes et al. Kudos to Prema for the same!! Following the first day of the online class (which happened to be a Thursday evening for the group that i was a part of) we got to the training ground (parking lot) on a chilly Saturday morning at around 6:40 AM or where we did the initial checkin, signed waivers (printing and signing it overnight does help in case you plan to reach there just in time), the instructors verify the gear and from there on starts the fun part. Our instructors for the first day were Kyle and Ed. Pretty amazing humans with some amazing level of patience and amazing clarity in the instructions that they would give. They made sure that we took the right baby steps to crawl before we started to walk and eventually run away with the program. Concluded the day with a briefing after the class around what we achieved through as well receiving individual feedback from Kyle in case one was interested in finding out about themselves. Pretty eventual day though it didn't end there as we had to head back and get ready for the second online class in a few hours. The online class in the evening was again a Prema masterclass as he walked us through the remainder of the topics. He did a great job with the explanation and as well explained concepts and questions that came along the way. A job very well done. Day 2 of riding began sharp at 7 AM. Checked in around 6:30 AM and got to meet our instructors for the day Shaoyan and Isaac. Got to our bikes from day 1 and did a few warm up rounds with the last skill that was taught yesterday. Once those were out of the way we got started with a bit more complicated skills though they were taught and demonstrated which helped us grasp those in an easy to understand style and as well execute the same. During the breaks Shayon and Issac did help answer any questions that may have come up and as well shared their riding experiences that they have garnered over a period of time. From the breaks we would get on to the driving skills and eventually around 11 AM is when we were told about the skills test where each in the group would be asked to do 5 tasks (everybody in the group does the same task and then the group moves on to the next one) on the basis of which each of the riders would be rated. The skills test was conducted and if the instructors felt that the rider didn't do the right thing they would be asked to repeat. The test got done I think around 11:40 or so after which there was a bonus skill that was taught which essentially brought road like driving conditions to the training ground. This involved for the rider to make sharp turns, meet at intersections , change lanes , stops signs etc and immensely helped up get a feel of what we would get into once we hit the road after getting the permit. After finishing all of this Issac talked to us about the 2 days combined and helped us do a quick review. Towards the end of this each of the riders were called and informed as to how they performed and if they passed the skills test they would be asked to proceed further and take the written test which is based on what's learnt on the field while riding the bikes and as well in the onilne classes. Finishing the test , you get to know your results right away and I made it through. Took my beginner MSF course here and had a fantastic experience. My instructors Kevin & Cesar were great on the range and provided very useful constructive critique of our skills. Both guys were humorous and really chill, but serious about their passion for riding and teaching others about safety. Kevin definitely stood out as a teacher with his booming voice and no bs attitude, and was very clear with his instructions and tips to improve. Almost felt like being back in football with a coach. Everyone left with feedback on what to continue practicing and how to become safer riders beyond the class and obtaining your endorsement. Classroom instruction is never the most fun time, regardless of what you're studying. Amplify that by 10x for zoom classes. However, Kyle made it a point to reinforce the information that would not only keep you safe, but to pass the test. He was also very understanding that after a full day out on the bikes, we were left a little drained for the zoom class. No one in my class failed the written portion of their safety test thanks to the way he presented the material, and a lot of the statistics taught were applied to real life scenarios that made them easy to remember, and hard to forget. I PASSED!! Had I known how cool the instructors at Golden State Moto were I would have taken my MTC riding course here instead, but none the less, I found my way to them by having failed my MTC range test and needed some extra practice before retaking it. Signed up for a 2hr one-on-one lesson with Kyle, and wow! In 2hrs I learned to correct all the mistakes that caused me to fail, and by the next day I passed my range course with another company with flying colors! Even though I grew up riding (You'd be surprised what a difference a few years not riding can affect), it never hurts to join a class taught by instructors who ride every day and want to see you build and regain proficiency. The zoom classroom isn't bad with you being able to be comfortable in your own chair. Simple rules to follow for yours and others safety. I recommend you don't enter the beginner course if you're not willing to take instruction. The instructors do a great job of communicating and will pull you aside for a little one on one. Read the handbook and follow the workbook during classroom and you'll be ready for the final. Remember to be on time for all classes, especially the range so you can get checked in and ready to roll. We had a small woman riding one the honda rebels and didn't have an issue. Riding a bicycle will help you with balance and control. You are paying to be instructed and to make decisions quickly when riding, no one should be holding your hand and passing you because you showed up. These instructors have to judge riders on the fact they are sending you out to the streets. If they fail you, you aren't ready for the road. read more

Kevin and Cesar were great! I had no experience at all with riding a motorcycle but they absolutely made me feel comfortable being on a bike within the first day! By the end of the class my confidence has gone even higher. They're fun guys and are very knowledgeable in what they're doing. They take the time to actually watch you and help you correct on the things you're doing wrong. I would highly recommend coming to the class and learning the proper techniques. If you get Cesar and Kevin then you'll have a great time. *We took the class when it was about 100 degrees outside. Not the ideal weather to be learning outside with long sleeves, jeans, helmet, and gloves. We still had a blast! read more

I just completed my two day beginner course to help qualify for my M1. The experience was outstanding. Micah did the zoom classes and some practical instruction (as did Kyle). Both were diligent, and careful to make sure the students were learning and progressing. Today we had Kevin for the riding exam. In my opinion, Kevin has a gift for teaching. He was careful to explain and show us what was expected. He was patient with newbies. He has a good sense of humor and shared some real life experiences. One of the best class experience I ever had. Highly recommend the class for all levels. I had prior experience riding but the course provided a clear concise step-by-step process how to ride safely. In addition, the instructors were very friendly. My instructor Kevin, Kayon, and Kyle (sorry if I spelled the names wrong) made the class fun. All instructors were patient to answer any question (btw there is no dumb questions). I had sign up with 2wheelsafety but cancel due to their poor customer service and abrasive attitude. If you want to come to a class where the instructor can't wait for you to leave because you are new and does not bother to listen to your issue, sign up. My zoom lecture was with Isaac who is super nice. However being advised by a different instructor to go polish up bicycle skills after 2 hours on the range because you are not as smooth as other students in class is just a tad bit sexist. Here is why: 1. The instructor with a full face of beard was not our zoom instructor, but he insists all other students are good on bicycles. I, being in class, actually did ask other students. And most have not ridden a bicycle in years. But I am told I am failing because I should: get the rust off my bicycle skills. Direct quote 2. I, a female, was riding a bike heavier than what most males were learning on. Refer to picture: the left parked one was mine, others rode the smaller ones. I kept trying to tell bearded instructor it was taking all my effort just to hold the handle bar straight. But when I turn the throttle, I loses pressure on the handle bars, and thus causing it to swerve. His response? Ride bicycle. 3. I accepted the fact that I might be a slow learner and therefore inquired with the bearded instructor if there are full day courses, or other options for me to continue the course. His response: ride bicycle and ask office. 4. He also told me the course was designed so 90% of students pass. I was the only female in class riding a motorcycle this weekend afternoon, my other female student was on an electric bike. And ironically the only one told to: go ride bicycle. I did not even bother to tell him of my bruise I received when the motorcycle tilted to the left once, you can see from the picture how colorful it is because of how heavy the motorcycle was. I never thought Motorcycle was an easy thing to learn. But I am definitely not interested in paying for an instructor who gives up on me so fast. I might not be the fastest learner, but to just tell me to go ride a bicycle because I am unsteady after being on a motorcycle for 2 hours in my entire life makes me question about your ability as an instructor. I also now further understood why there is a so little female motorcycle riders. Final words: if you don't wish to teach slow learning students, just say so. Have some guts. To future slow students: go to another place, this isn't the place for you if you cannot ride steady one hour into instruction. read more

All instructors offered great tips to hone your riding skills to be safer out on the road. Everyone was super friendly and open to anyone asking questions. You will pass the written exam if you pay attention during the virtual class and read the student manual. Everything covered during the virtual classes appeared on the written exam and a few other questions stemmed from either reading the student manual or what was taught during the riding portion on the range. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to learn how to ride and ride safely. I had a great time, learned A LOT, and felt safe doing it. I had never turned on a motorcycle, let alone drive around, shift, swerve, emergency stop, etc., before taking this course and now feel confident to start practicing in parking lots until I'm ready for road riding. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable, and truly make the whole experience worth-while through individualized (and VERY patient) guidance. My husband who currently rides took the course with me and was very glad he did because he realized many bad habits and felt the instructors gave him great feedback in helping him be a better rider. We highly recommend taking this course for completely new riders or anyone looking to improve their riding skills. My wife and I decided to start our journey into motorcycles. After looking into several options we booked lessons (MSF beginner course) with Golden State Moto. It was a blast: mix of fun, learning and new experience for us. First huge shout out to Isaac, Prema, Steven and Shayon. Shayon was very efficient with theoretical part. Right breaks, right speed ups. Isaac, Prema and Steven were on the right balance between demand and fun. They always provided necessary suggestions and corrections. It was very easy to follow the course even for my wife who doesn't speak English well. From zero to "licensed on parking lot" is a huge success for us. We got our basic skills and understanding and some confidence. We are going to take more classes with Golden State Moto. read more

Wife and I took a class from Mycah and Daniel. The classroom and field portions were expertly run. Mycah especially is a talented and practiced presenter. Doing a lot of teaching myself in other fields I can recognize when people have worked hard to perfect their craft and these two definitely have. I took the beginners class and let me tell you, this is the best class I've ever taken! Super knowledgeable instructors. Clear instructions and demonstrations. They're so helpful and supportive. I'm mind blown of all the things I've learned. Shout out to ALL the instructors!! Y'all are awesome!!!! Would definitely recommend this training class for everyone. I took the course here in order to learn how to ride a motorcycle. By taking this course not only did I feel I gained the necessary skills to be out in the road, I also don't have to take the DMV driving test as this place is kind of a one stop shop. 1st and 2nd day start out with Zoom class due to Covid. After the Zoom class you head on out to the site where you actually learn to mount and ride the motorcycles that they provide. I brought my own gear but they also lend out gear if you don't have any. There was a group of 8 of us. First day was instructed by Kyle and I forget the other gentleman's name. 2nd day was instructed by Kevin and Caesar. All 4 of these instructors were great. I can't say how much I appreciate learning from them. The 2nd day was a little more challenging as they prepared you for the evaluation at the end but I feel Kevin and Caesar did a tremendous job in helping us acquire the necessary skills to not only pass the course but to help us learn how to steer the bike in order to survive a crash.
