I read the previous reviews and decided to hire Alonzo and his team to get rid on 9 stumps. I cut down cypress trees that were 60 years old and looking bad. I could not get rid of the stumps. I did not have the proper equipment. He sent out a person on Saturday and it was finished within 2 hours. My only negative comment is that he charged too much for this job, but it was completed and cleaned up. He said it would take 5+ hours. read more

I think anyone can agree that it gets a little frustrating when timeframes and appointments are not honored. Being on-time and doing what you said you are going to do is a mark of being professional. I was referred to Alonso by my neighbor just one house down the street. My neighbor was my high school classmate (many years ago now) and so I've known her a long time, plus we live literally on the same street so I trusted her referral. The first time we scheduled an estimate, it was for between 10-11 AM on a Friday. I would've preferred just a set time, but I was ok with the timeframe since our schedule was more flexible that day. Alonso did not come until after 12 PM. He didn't apologize for being late either. I was not pleased, my husband's better at being the nice smiley one no matter what. I warmed up after a bit because he was professional and seemed to have solid knowledge of what needed to be done. It seemed they were going to do a more thorough job than our previous brush service so we agreed. We scheduled the work to be done for the following Thursday and I confirmed with Alonso the night before that his team was due to arrive between 12 and 1 PM. Another timeframe which I dislike, but again I felt like being a bit more understanding so I made sure to be home around that time. I was pretty angry by the time it was 4 PM and his team finally came. Also, we were not offered an acknowledgement of the late arrival or even a discount of any sort for the treatment of my time. It was very hot so I understand that the team could not finish their work that day, especially because they had arrived later than expected. I messaged Alonso and he mentioned they'd come on Friday to finish up. No one came on Friday, and I messaged to follow up. He mentioned that he'd aim for Monday afternoon, but Tuesday if Monday didn't work out. He mentioned he'd let me know in the next hour. This was Monday midday. Didn't hear from him until I followed up 3 hours later, and as I expected, it ended up being Tuesday in the morning. I understood that, and preferred it on behalf of the workers since if they came earlier they could beat the heat. I give two additional stars for the work the team did because it was solid and they really did a nice job cleaning up the brush and cleaning up the area after the work was done. I don't fault them at all because they did their work well and he's obviously got a good, hardworking group of guys, but otherwise this is a one star review simply due to the frustration of scheduling! It was exhausting and after a while, I just came to expect the worst. I don't think anyone wants to feel this way when they enlist a service. You hope that people will stick to their word. I don't mind if someone schedules a date of service more further out, you pick whatever date works best for your business and just please let me know. I just want them to be there at the time and date that was promised. read more

I recommend these guys; Alonso came right out to provide a detailed quote. He was good natured, knowledgable, and thorough in his description of the work that needed to be done. We were able to get a great deal on the job since they were already working in the area for the day. Ours was a sizable job and Alonso showed up with a crew of several men who made short work of what started out as quite a mess of overgrown and dead trees. They cut down, removed, and trimmed exactly as promised and cleaned the whole yard in a few short, albeit noisy, hours! I was concerned that the neighbors would be upset over the noise and mess, but Alonso's crew cleaned any debris that went in the neighbor's yards and had already spoken to them before starting. We hired Golden State to remove a medium sized tree in our backyard that was growing out of control into the utility lines. We were quoted a price that was much lower than anticipated, and they performed the job the very same day. The work was quick and well organized, plus they left our yard cleaner than when they started. The guys accidentally broke a cable wire that was caught in some branches, but went ahead and trimmed our front tree for no charge due to the inconvenience. I needed to remove my 60 year old avocado tree that outgrew the space I had in the yard. The large branches grew onto my neighbors yards leaving a huge daily mess for us and for them. We are first time homeowners and are finding ourselves faced with all of those things you never think about as a renter - tree trimming being one of them. We had a huge oak and a huge elm tree in our yard that were just encroaching and getting sap and debris everywhere. The branches were growing over our roof and we were afraid wed end up with some roof damage if those branches fell. Alonso is a really knowledgeable and friendly owner. I'm glad I end up chose him even he is unable to reply your message right away ( I did 6 estimation with others) The waiting is worth !!! Indeed , he gave me a decent price !! Alonso knows every single plant in my small back yard , and he also offered to trimming some that is laying from / to neighboring side and suggested how much we cut to make it nice and safe. I liked how my trees looked at the end and the price was fair. Alonso responded to my voicemail the next day and was able to come out the same day for an estimate and started work the day after. We needed our large Chinese Elm trimmed as well as a smaller tree. A two man crew started earlier than scheduled and did a beautiful job on the Chinese Elm. Another crew of a few other guys came to shred and collect the trimmed branches, trim the other tree, and clean up the whole area, which they left cleaner than it was before they came. SOLID WORK! GREAT PRICE! NICE PEOPLE. Don't look any further - this is your team. I get three or more estimates on bigger jobs and Golden State Tree Service gave me a competitive price. They removed a really huge Yucca tree (6' in diameter? ) on the border between my yard and my neighbor's yard. This Yucca tree had its branches in the power lines next to a small pool - they also removed a 30'? palm tree - also in a tricky spot. They did a great job and I can highly recommend them. It happened to be a brutally hot day and they pushed through the heat. I asked them to make sure to leave the neighbors yard as they found it... and they did! I have a small pool and I would have preferred appreciated a tarp over the whole pool but they covered half - making for some cleaning on my part - perhaps I'm hyper-critical. Just be explicit with your expectations and put it on the estimate. I would most certainly hire them again and endorse them when friends need their services. read more

Great service, great price! We've been neglecting our trees for a while now and during the last windy spell, it sounded like the branches were going to knock the house down. I called another company first and they couldn't even come out to give me a quote for a few days. I will use them again! I found Golden State Tree Service on Yelp due to their good ratings and I was not disappointed. Alonso came out and gave me a quote and was the lowest bid out of three. Alonso really seemed to know what he was talking about and was very professional. I was getting three trees trimmed (olive, lemon & oak) and one tree removed (carrotwood). His crew showed up at 8am sharp and by 8:30am there was the sound of chainsaws and lots of activity going on. They were able to cut down the Carrotwood tree but leave the Bougainvillaea that was growing right next to in by my driveway. It was very noisy (to be expected) for awhile but amazingly 2 1/2 or 3 hours later they were finished and had cleaned up very well. They swept up all the debris on both my yard and my neighbor's yard (where things had fallen) and my yard was cleaner when they left than when they arrived. I am thinking about having them come back and trim another tree soon. I decided not to have it done when they were here but now that all of the other trees look so nice and neat, I am thinking about having one more done. They do a good job of trimming the trees well but not making them look stumpy (which I think looks awful). My trees still look like good looking trees but with short haircuts (so to speak). Not only was the work done beautifully, the crew left each area extremely clean. Alonso was able to come to our house that evening. He was on time, PROFESSIONAL, and friendly. There was a minimum of twenty years of plant and tree growth on the hill of my backyard. The roots were getting bigger and spreading their offspring. I recently used Golden State Tree Service to remove a large tree from the front and also side hedges. Alonso came out to give me an estimate the same day and had crew there the next morning to do the job. What impressed me to begin with was his crew was actually about 20 mins early and they were working away within minutes of arriving. The service included stump grinding to the large tree and approximately 17-20 other small bush stumps that lined the whole side and front of house. Alonso was onsite periodically throughout the day to check on the progress and if I had any questions, he was just a phone call or text away so I really appreciated the customer service and availability.
