Lotus seed bun (my favorite), salted egg yolk bun, red bean bun, pork bun. This is bao heaven. I'll be honest, I have never really liked the red bean bun, but I've never had one like this. So smooth, rich. These are by far the best bao I've ever had, so much filling, so light and fluffy, fridge and resteam so well for all of them. I have tried my fair share of lotus seed bao and this one takes it. I also have never found salted egg yolk bun outside of dim sum restaurants and these were exquisite. My family loves salted egg yolk bun, can't wait to take it to them! And price is unbeatable. $6-6.75 for giant bao. What are you waiting for? I visited this after I visited the one in Chinatown, Manhattan and I loved this place even more. The roast pork buns are so delicious and there is so much filling on the inside. I loved the red bean and the rice buns. The service here is super fast and the prices are so worth it. They have both cold and hot ones that you can get depending on when you want to eat it. Good coffee!!! Was in dire need for a cup of coffee and luckily we found this place! The coffee is rich and strong, just the way I like it! Good service. It was a very quick in-and-out stop. Great steamed buns but a lousy place to sit and eat. Normally, the limited seating is occupied by old men and contractors. If you are lucky, you can sit at one of the 9 seats (3 of those are questionable since it's right next to the carry out boxes of buns they sell... not very sanitary). On a cold day, you will find a dozen people standing inside waiting for their mini buses. Some of these even block access to the trash can. So the door is opening constantly and it essentially becomes just as cold inside. Again, not a pleasant place to eat. It's a bone chilling 21 degrees today. Food is great : steamed custard buns ("Nigh Wong Bao"), steamed sticky rice buns ("Law Migh Geung"), and milk tea. Not a good place for the steamed bun with veggie and meat inside since the amount of filling is minimal in that one and it's mostly bun. Prices are good. May be a bit difficult for new customers to select steamed buns since they are practically out of sight and you can't point to them. The front counter has cooked noodles, etc but not steamed buns. As with most non-restaurants in the area, no bathroom. Enjoy the food here, but not the ambiance (especially when the weather is cold). It's a tricky situation since steamed buns aren't great as they cool down. So hope you can eat in your car. read more

Contrary to the sign out front referring to noodle station, they still specialize in steamed buns of all sorts. At almost any given hour they have a dizzying array of steamed buns to choose from. Stacks and stacks of them they're wheeling out because they move tons of these somehow. You can pick mini buns upon entering at the display alongside the cash register however you can also walk into the back and ask the attendant to help you with the six packs of larger buns that adorn the wall. These you'll have to take home and steam. This is what they're most known for. Now although the current C-rating on the window betrays their appearance altogether, rest assured this is a great place to stuff your kids faces (if you have any). What kid wouldn't like mini buns? ok, well how about for a little more than a buck? I thought so. The custard filling was perfectly sweet and the size of the bun was very generous. The roast pork bun was probably one of the best I've ever tasted. I've been trying a bunch of different bakeries in Sunset Park lately and this is by far one of my favorites! For starters, everything is very well organized and laid out, so it's easy to actually get what you want. The baked buns are sold in either packs of three or six, which is totally fine since they're on the smaller side, and makes it easy to share. The quality of both types we tried (pineapple and roast pork) was really excellent -- the bread was lightly sweet and had a nice bit of tang with a chewy, open texture. Loved that the roast pork wasn't all gristle and fat, and the sauce wasn't too sweet either, definitely my favorite pork bun in the neighborhood. The pineapple buns were also great, not too crumbly or overly sweet, and went really well with milk tea. The staff here are hands down the friendliest at any bakery in the area, and they speak pretty good English. They actually ask you how much sugar you like in your tea, which is rare! This is the most amazing bakery on the block and I walked the street 5 times one weekend scouting for the best pastries and grocers. This shop by far has the best buns and most unique with its amazing egg custard steamed buns. They are HuGE and a bargain for 90 cents. I came back to this store twice cause I had to get more cash after shopping and wanted another snack. When I left for the day I had to buy a box of custard buns and bbq pork buns for my friends. I'll start off by saying that my fondest memory of this place took place years ago when I got a bubble tea here while my mom picked out some bao's. It was some sort of slushie and after leaving and drinking it, I noticed something hard in my drink. Out of my mouth came something that looked like a cut off piece of fingernail and I instantly was beyond turned off. F*k that crap, never went back for their drinks ever again. Granted, I never expect any clean conditions in any establishment in the 8th ave region but that was a little too far. On the other hand, this place is a favorite for my parents for the bao's alone. It's different than many of the other bakeries in the area because they sell packs of 6 for the most basic buns. Some of my favorites is the runny egg yolk baos and pork floss rolls. Nothing too gaga over but and it's a big BUT. Have you ever wish you could have these delicious Chinese buns that they sell at all the Chinese bakeries... I am referring to buns like hotdog bun, corn and cream on a Bun, chicken bun, pineapple bun and all the traditional Chinese favorites, but only you wish it was smaller cause you didn't feel like finishing a whole bun or you would rather try a variety instead of filling up on one type of bun. Well, now you can. At golden steamer, they offer just that. Mini versions of your famous Chinese buns. And for a great inexpensive price of one big one at other bakeries. For example, I got three mini egg tarts for $1.25, Three different types of buns - (mix and match allowed) hotdog bun, corn and cream bun, and dried pork bun for $1.25. In addition I got three types of yellow crusted buns - pineapple, egg and coconut for $1.25. So the whole six buns and three egg tarts for $3.75. what a deal! Taste similar like other Chinese bakery buns. But the size and price makes it a four star bakery for me. As the name of the bakery suggests, it does specialize in steam buns. They look like they have a large selection too. But I didn't buy any because I was too excited over the mini size buns that I brought enough buns for the day. First off I have a Cantonese palette, so that is what my star rating goes by for Golden Steamer. I was introduce to this place by a friend in Brooklyn that gave me a box of 6 golden steamed custard runny egg bun 5 years ago. That bun is like a gateway drug to brooklyn for me driving from eastern long island. You first have to try a hot one there to appreciate the right consistency of the softness, lightness of the bun and a nice ratio of hot sweet custard with a trace of salty duck egg. If you buy a box for home, don't eat it cold or microwave, must be in a steamer for 7 mins for the perfect reheat. This is the best I try outside of China, so every time I make that long drive I take orders from all my friend. Once a month I buy around 15-20 boxes for friend and freeze 2 box for myself. Most of the time they are sold out midday so I know when they produce fresh batches or go over to the branch on 11th ave. They have 3 branches in Brooklyn and 1 in Manhattan. Somehow the Manhattan branch was not that good. The pork bun, chicken bun and big bun are all good with the right ratio of quality filling. However, as business picks up the quality of the service is not the same anymore. They increased the price of 3 mini buns to $1.75 AND YOU CAN NOT MIX MATCH! Why would I pay extra for the same buns where i can get $1 from any bakery. Another issue, the boss of the place has a attitude problem. Who needs to be glared or lectured early in the morning. She also tend to overcharge the customers by a nickel/dime. Yes. I know its just a nickel or dime but she did it to me a few times and who knows cents do add up.
