I was in search for a jeweler to make an engagement ring for myself (I wasn't sure what I wanted, so my boyfriend told me to go get some ideas), so I decided to go downtown. I had looked on Yelp and saw that many jewelers had glowing reviews, so wasn't sure where to go. I ended up parking and just started walking and stumbled into Golden String Jewelry where I met Vic and his beautiful daughter. I knew the moment I started talking with him that I had stumbled into his store for a reason. Vic is a straight shooter and VERY knowledgeable. He has been at this for a long time and you can tell when you talk to him. He is honest and not pushy. He even told me to go look around to other places to see what else was in the jewelry district if I wanted. I did and I will say that the others I visited didn't even come close to Vic's charisma. There is just something about him that makes you feel at ease. He is a good soul. :) During my visit, we ended up coming up with some ideas of what I liked and I told him that I would bring my boyfriend back with me to discuss possible options. Long story short, my fiance, Vic and I came up with what my ring would look like and he ended up making me the most beautiful custom ring I have ever seen and he gave my fiance a very fair price. Vic, his wife and their daughter are an amazing family. They are genuinely wonderful and Vic and his wife have tremendous integrity. I cannot possibly say enough positive things about Golden String and Vic and his family. First, the most important thing: they made me and my (now) fiancé a custom ring, designed specially for her, incorporating the gold and diamonds my grandmother's wedding rings. Great people, great business! My fiancé and I just bought our wedding rings here and Vic and Ileen took excellent care of us. My fiancé had a special 14th century Burgundian seal that he wanted engraved on the inside of the rings. Many other jewelers in the district shrugged us off and promised a "font that would look really similar" but only Vic really understood the challenge of making the engraving look *exactly* like the seal. We forwarded him images and he blew them up and gave them to his engraver. He took such special care with our order and we are so so pleased with the outcome! I originally got my engagement ring from a nearby jeweler, I picked the setting, the diamond, and asked for a little customizing. I got the diamond I chose and a setting with design close to what I wanted but not exact. I went back for the band and they charged me more than originally discussed. I never felt 100% with my ring an always second guessed it. After almost a year of marriage I decided to upgrade my ring a tiny bit and maybe that would make me happy. My bff was ready to upgrade her ring also so we decided we would meet in la to look around. I got there first and decided to kill some time looking around while I waited. I saw TONS of diamonds in the shop so I walked in. Maria greeted me and was so nice, friendly, and welcoming we just started talking. I told her I was waiting for my friend but would like to see a certain setting, she gladly started showing me what I had in mind. Shortly after that Vic joined in and started talking to me and showing me jewelry. I felt so welcomed, at ease, and comfortable. By the time my friend showed up I was already sold on this shop and hoping that at least one of us would do business here. We then explained what my friend was looking for and we compared several different styles of rings to see what we liked the best. We found the perfect ring that everyone fell in love with, a band to compliment it beautifully. My friend had a band her husband proposed with that was altered to look more like a wedding ring, it was very sentimental to her so Vic agreed that he could restore her ring to its original style and add a cz where he was removing her diamond from, not to mention the spectacular price she was quoted. Her and her husband were thrilled. At this point I'm so happy with them that I asked what could be done for my ring. I was able to keep my diamond (which was the best part of my original ring and I love) for the new setting with a band for a price I was comfortable with. Vic has a lifetime customer in me. We came here based off of our friend's recommendation and I'm so happy we met Vic. After going to a bunch of other jewelry places such as the higher end Tiffanys&Co, Cartier, Harry Winston, don't worry it was just to have an idea of what style I will like for my engagement ring. I knew those places were way above our budget. So after doing some digging on Instagram to see maybe any luck I will find a jeweler out there that can create something I will like wasn't as easy as I thought. And eventually after a night out with our friends I was telling them how we're trying to find a jeweler they recommend Vic. And since his wife was wearing her engagement right and wedding band I was able to see first hand the quality that Vic took to create her ring. To be honest it was better than what you would find displayed out in Beverly Hills. So we went and visited Vic on a Friday around 3:30pm and ended up spending about 3 hours there. However, Vic never pressured us to go with him and he shared his vast knowledge on the importance of the 4 Cs. I felt like I was in a classroom, which made me feel even more confident and happy we decided to go with Vic because he knew so much about diamonds that I don't think even Google can outdo him! But what I also liked was that he taught me how to look at the diamond and I'm very hands on so I liked that he wasn't just verbally telling me that this diamond was good etc, but had me see for it myself. He was also able to work with our budget to help us find something that I will like and my boyfriend would't have to break the bank for.
