I need to replace a few windows in my house and I wanted to try and stay local and give the business to a small business right where I live. I stopped by the office and let them know what I was looking for. The lady seemed very unorganized and almost annoyed that I was in there talking to her. I gave her my measurements, decided on the type of window and she wrote or I should say scribbled it down in a notebook with my contact info. She said she couldn't give me a quote until tomorrow. I told her that was fine and I looked forward to her call. It's been about 6 weeks now and still no call. I guess the other reviews were right about the service so sadly, I will not be buying my windows locally from them. read more

Golden West Glass is 'old school' and a family business...Tina runs the front and is no nonsense absolutely (she is hardly the 'glass Nazi'!) but she is very organized in my working with her and has been extremely proactively actually in the 4 or so times I have worked with them...I noticed they are training a 'newbie' behind the front desk this week too, she seems super outgoing and friendly, so the front desk / customer service piece is very good lately. Makes sense because they are ARE so busy because they do a fantastic job... the installers are amazing, really high level of integrity / kind of a Mayberry RFD feel to the service they give - I love working with them and Bob did all my estimates and reviews and the end product has been nothing short of awesome. I was impressed how clean they left everything, and that they washed the windows they installed, removed all the finger prints etc. so all I had to do was sit back and look at them and enjoy my new windows. They came right back for some follow up work I needed done as well. I love them too because they are right here in Boyes Hot Springs, and yesterday I had a broken window and its 4:00 and its fixed, done, and they are long gone...seeing their trucks in town gives me peace of mind... I've used these guys several times. Never been great, but I wanted to keep a local business going. Never again. It took several calls just to get a price quote. Which I immediately approved. Which they never processed. After two weeks I called, asking about my order, they apologized, said it would be ready in 10 business days. 3 weeks later, I called, they said it was in, they just needed to confirm the sizes and would call me back. They didn't. I finally got the glass. Half the order was cut wrong. I used another company afterwards and got better service for, literally, half the price. read more

I manage an apartment complex. The owners decided to have numerous windows replaced. Golden West Glass was hired to do the job. They provided great service. Very professional. Came prepared. When they entered each unit, they put drop clothes down, sprayed disinfectant, wore face masks, and wore gloves. Even though they commuted to San Jose from Sonoma, they were always on time. The locking mechanism broke on my sliding screen door. Friedmans and Parsons did not have any sort of selection so we could not find one to match. I was reluctantly realizing I would need to purchase a new screen door. The reviews of screens from Amazon to Home Depot were terrible. I was afraid I would need to pay a lot of money over a small replaceable part. Parsons suggested Golden West Glass. I stopped in reluctantly. Immediately I was taken notice of with interest for my seemingly minor problem. Nick, Jeff and Amanda took the time needed to determine finding a matching part was not going to happen without a trip through a big box store if, in fact, they had one. Amanda went to their supplies and actually found a door with a locking mechanism and a better screen than I already had. They only charged me $35!! They also delivered for free! Golden West Glass installed an openable skylight on my home. At the time, I was told that the straight crank assembly would be replaced with a 45 degree assembly which should have been installed in the first place. It is now over a year later and despite several visits to the Golden West office for a resolution, the crank assembly has not been replaced and the skylight is very difficult to operate. There have been absolutely no phone calls or any explanation of any kind from Golden West. I completely agree with Conn D's comments on the office staff. I have been a customer here and I try to shop locally but I will take my business elsewhere. The woman I spoke to this time was rude, rude, rude,rude. I inquired about hanging a rather large framed mirror. She said it would cost $200 for them to show up plus 2 guys for a 2 hour minimum at $150 per hour each. Really? $800 to hang a mirror? Heed my warning, look elsewhere! Golden West is terrible; Probably the worst customer service you'll ever experience. As Golden West was recommended from my local trades person, I tried to make a business relationship work. Golden West did not. In general - Not one person I spoke with was accommodating, patient, professional. On 2 of my 4 phone calls I was given "smart ass" responses to why it took so long to get a return call, quote, or general information. The process took over 2 weeks just to begin a quotation process with different process steps and starting over multiple times. And over 4 weeks into the process, I've given up. No! I have never received a quote, follow-up information, or general information to delays, timing, anything. As stated earlier, I only pursued to this extent as my trades-person had recommended this company. In fact, he spoke with the owner directly about my project and delays - which did nothing. Maybe they provide quality product(s), but their customer service is so bad how could anyone ever know. And there are plenty of very professional companies out there. Do not feel obligated to patron this business. I would be happy to walk you through the details of my experience. read more

Let me start of by saying that I am familiar with this company very much. The owner Rob is a genuine guy but fails to up hold that in his work. This is definitely the last time I will go for them in need of any kind of repair for my house or anything, it took me around 5 calls to get an estimate that took the span of 3 days. In between all of this I was never welcomed or felt like I was a guest but more of a waste of time or another customer who they had to reluctantly listen. To because they needed the money. Not only that but the end product was had to be taken down in the end because I couldn't stand the look of it. I know it's a family owned business too which is one of the major reasons why I decided to use their services but I am also reluctant in writing this review in the same way they had to listen to me. Really wish I had a different experience with these guys and don't know what it is about that place but their work and manners are easily out shined by the other family owned shops as well. They deserve a much higher rating! I don't write 5-star reviews without good reason. I live in Fountaingrove and had substantial damage from the Oct 17 fire. I have custom windows and the manufacturer, Blomberg, referred me directly to Golden West. The owner, Rob, is one of the most open, honest, knowledgeable contractors I have worked with while repairing my home. I simply cannot say enough positives. Sometimes ratings can be misleading, and so it seems to be the case here. Please be assured I have no personal or financial connection with Golden West. They charged $803.00 to replace one pane in a single pane divided light window. Unbelievable! I will never use them again

I was quoted $20.00 for a mirror put in my own frame - seemed reasonable...when I picked it up, the woman informed me it was $60.00. Why, as asked? Well, I had requested a piece of wire on the back. The additional $40.00 was for the $15.00 wire kit (probably a .90 cent piece of wire) and for 15 minutes of their time at $100.00 an hour! Are we in Manhattan? There was no apology for not informing me that my request would triple the price! BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! read more

They were very nice when I went to their shop. They repaired a mirror for me and did a nice job. (reason for 2 stars instead of 0) I asked if they could come to my house to hang it. Yes, it would take two guys. Ok. When one guy arrived..where is is the second guy? "He can't make it". The one guy attempted to hang the mirror. First, it was not straight, so he took it down and rehung it. Huge hole in the wall that was just painted the night before and all the paint below the mirror was scratched. When I questioned the charge, he lowered the bill and said house call minimum is $125. Never said he was sorry. He said it looks like it is going to be a nice day. The painter had to come back and patch the wall and repaint. I would have been nice to give my business to a local company..forget it. read more

I am not impressed with their service. We have tried twice to do business with them. First, regarding installation of several windows... They will not send someone out to measure or discuss the windows in person. I gave measurements over the phone, was told someone would call back within a couple of days. A week without a call and I called them, still no quote. A couple of weeks later I called. Still no quote. Finally got a call with a quote but no apology. Second, we had a screen door repaired. After repairs the door was still coming off of the track. Was told we. Ould have to pay $125 to get someone out and would likely need a ne door (wish they had said that before we paid $60 to get the old one repaired. I tried twice with this company in an attempt to support local business, but am going to have to go elsewhere from here on out. read more

The inside pane on one of our double french doors failed. It just cracked in a million pieces by itself. We called Golden West Glass despite reading the negative reviews posted here. What the heck, give it a try i thought you can always get another estimate. The office person is professional and sent someone out right away. The charge for the double glass pane which had to be custom made was very reasonable. The estimate for labor was 2 - 4 hours to replace. The actual removal install time was two and a half hours. Everything was done neat, meticulous and professional. I am very satisfied. read more

In the earthquake I lost a 30" round glass table top and went here to get a quick replacement. After all, this IS a glass shop. The woman who was behind the counter seemed totally annoyed by my presence and was exceedingly rude. She said she could "source" the glass top for me, but it would take 4 to 6 weeks and cost $250. Obviously she did not wish to sell to me, so I left and ordered it from Amazon. It cost $74 and I had it in 2 days! I have subsequently talked to 2 local contractors who said they got their glass in Santa Rosa and/or Napa due this same outrageously rude woman. read more

I called Golden West Glass and discussed my project to replace two windows with Rob, a Field Estimator. I explained that we have two argon filled windows with lifetime warranties that failed, the mfg. sent a technician to take measurements at our house, they built the windows in Sacramento at the mfg. plant and returned with the new windows a couple of weeks later. This is when I found out that they (the mfg.) were returning the windows without installing them because the labor warranty expired. I'll be honest because, this is a forum that others will search, and should be able to rely on it for guidance. Rob provided me with the price to complete the job, with the stipulations that if anything occurs, such as, window measurements are incorrect or if the glass breaks it will be my loss because we didn't originally buy the glass from them. Rob was only being honest and upfront with me, just as I'm being with you. I said I'll get back to him. My first thoughts were that something will happen, then I read the Yelp reviews, my wife said don't worry about it. Understand: I seem to be drawn into reading reviews, and I seem to focus on the one's that seem to discourage the reader from engaging in business. I called and set the appointment to have the glass installed. Keenan the installer arrived and asked me if the glass is tempered and I explained that I was just on the phone with another contractor that said, by state law, it must be tempered. He said he would look at it (uh-oh, my first red-flag, not looking good), which he did very carefully and said he will go ahead and install it. Keenan got to work, approached me again and said we have a problem (oh-no, second red-flag), however, it was a mfg. problem with the internal grids when they built the windows. I said no problem, install the window and I'll contact the mfg. and have them correct it. I asked my wife if she wanted to clean the sill up while Keenan was out front working on the glass. However, Keenan was cleaning up the sill with a cleaner and it was looking good. He removed all the stickers and cleaned the glass. It's as if there wasn't any glass, it was extremely clean. I highly recommend Golden West Glass for your projects because: they completed the job that's beyond my satisfaction at the agreed upon price, period. Golden West Glass, were as professional, as it gets. I was very indecisive about what I wanted for my home and business. the staff at the shop were very patient and helpful. I decided to use Golden West, to update the windows in my Healdsburg home, the owner of the company, oversaw the project, making sure everything was done to my specification. Two years later, I'm convinced they were the best choice in the county. My 6 year-old broke the screens in her bedroom, during the summer. I was worried about mosquitos, and explained my concern to Mr. Olson, the owner. He sent one of his employees to my home, the same day, to fix my screens, out of warranty and for free. He's a local guy from Sonoma County, he totally understood. He's been in business for 40 years, this is why I chose Golden West. I went back recently, having forgotten how little the shop seemed interested in my business. I arrived at 10 to 5, the door was open, I asked if I could order a peice of glass, she said "I just closed". ?? Anyway she took my order and I paid, she said it would be a week. I called back this morning to cancel and she said it wasnt possible, "it was already in production". If so, why does it take a week? She wouldnt let me cancel it. After bringing my plans in tot he office to order 4 windows, I was told I would receive a quote the next day. A week later I had to call and then was given a quote for 3 windows. When asked about the 4th, the woman that controls the desk said that was all she had written down until she turned the page in her notebook to find the additional window. I was told the price included delivery to the job site a few miles from the business, in fact when the driver arrived he said he had to collect a check for 100.00 dollars to leave the windows. OK, maybe I misunderstood? Next problem was that 2 of the windows should have been tempered and only 1 was. When I contacted her she said how would I know that? That was the reason the contractor told me to bring the plans in to the office. I took the window back and was told that I didn't leave the plans overnight so it wasn't her fault. I wasn't asked to leave the plans so now I have to pay another 200.00 to replace the glass with tempered. The original window was that cost, but they don't take returns, even when they should have known this from the plans. I will never go here again or recommend them to anyone I know. The customer service is horrible the woman at the desk is rude. I can't believe they can stay in business. I should have read the reviews first! read more
