the deep fried appetizers: cream chees wontons, crab rangoons, fantail shrimp, egg rolls, are very good here. and that's special, because good deep frying has become a more rare art since vegetable shortening left the scene years ago. most of the chinese dishes have the right idea, with occasional issues with the consistency. lately it has been a little better, but we've had a couple times with a not super fresh ingredient. but all in all, this is as close as you are gonna get to a standard new york chinese delivery place south of 50th st. avoid the sushi. that's all that needs to be said about that. read more

I've both eaten here and had take out several times. I l can't get enough of the Chinese food here, especially since they accommodate my mom's request of little oil and no canned vegetables. I would suggest anything with vegetables, like Shrimp with Vegetables. I haven't tried any of their fried items yet but hope to soon. The prices are great and service is very fast. It's always busy and everyone is super friendly. For primarily a take out Chinese restaurant I see a lot of customers ordering the sushi so it must be good. read more

Being one of two Chinese places who will deliver to our apartment, I am really grateful for Golden Wok. They have an online ordering system which is antiquated but effective, and the food is always good. I usually get the combo order of Sweet and Sour chicken, fried rice, and egg roll, and a soda. I live a couple few blocks away, I can't believe I have not reviewed this place. I have dozens of photos, eaten here maybe 20-30 times not to mention deliveries. First off it's a Chinese restaurant. Fantastic food. It's atmosphere is that of a Subway but, it's great food. Now having said that, THE SUSHI, is outstanding, we have probably ordered two of everything on the SUSHI menu. Although the food was bad the service was pleasant & I appreciated that. I'm used to having great food when I travel In an attempt to avoid so-so (& very limited selection) hotel food I called for delivery. My order was simple & what I usually have if I have Chinese take out General tso tofu & veggies & steamed rice In order to meet the minimum I also got veggie lo mein I had a bit of each dish. Trashed the rest. 80% went in the trash. I considered keeping it for lunch the next day but it was just not good. Tofu was soft & mushy not fried or crunchy edges as should be.And tasteless just like the Lo mein. No flavor. The eggroll seemed to be filled with white jelly. No veggies no meat...just white jelly. Tasted awful. I am not sure what taste buds are like here in MSP maybe much milder than major cities where restaurants & even take out have To meet high standards. For the road-weary traveler, delivery from Golden Wok was like an oasis in the proverbial desert! From order placement (which we were able to do online -- bonus points there) to delivery took just a shade over 30 minutes. The food was hot and very flavorful. My wife and I ordered a small soup each (which was much larger than we thought it'd be), split an order of crab Rangoon (mmmmmm yum), and ordered a combination plate each (which comes with an egg roll, chicken fried rice, and soda). I had the General Tso's chicken, and my wife ordered the Kung Pao chicken. She really appreciated the fact that it was all white meat chicken. And the price for all that? $23 before tip! Ridiculously cheap! And it was delivered with plates and plastic silverware. Nice to not have to raid the hotel for stuff. Just overall a really bland place. Sure they deliver, but I can think of 14 other delivery places I'd rather have right off the bat. Anyway, the people who work there are very nice, but it was almost like they just made the food out of frozen food in the back. Sure, it came out within 3 minutes of ordering, but everything tasted like it was just thawed out and thrown in the microwave. I should prob give this place 1 star, but they were very accommodating to our business meeting of 8 people and let us sit there for a while after eating. We ordered the pepper steak and chicken with almond combo platter. Combo comes with an eggroll and soda. Both dishes for $15! You don't really get a bang for your buck here though. My pepper steak didn't look like the picture on the menu. In fact, there was no pepper on it and it didn't look like steak. My wife's chicken almond dish was underwhelming. I got better egg rolls from the frozen food section at Cub. I guess if you are holed up in a hotel room without a car and craving for some cheap Chinese food, this might be the only option in that area. I didn't even finish my dish. I also didn't keep it for leftovers, which would be the first time in history that I've never saved leftover Chinese food. My wife just chimed in that her food tasted better the next day. We stopped in on a whim, mostly just stopping in for the menu. When the order arrived, we had to try it...well we stayed & ate it all and only had a small amt of fried rice to bring home! This turned out to be fabulous choice! Chicken fried rice was FULL of fresh chicken, tempura shrimp maki roll was awesome and the crab rangoon actually tasted like crab!? Two words: LUNCH SPECIAL! For $5 I get some of the best orange chicken around! That's all I have had their. But, anyone else that has been there with me has loved their meal as well. This place is ideal for lunch and takeout. They're quick, yummy and cheap. The lunch special is 4.95 for an entree and rice, and drinks are a dollar. One dollar. Also, if you look closely at the menu, you'll see that they offer some of their entrees in lunch sizes all day, and for delivery. My favorite thing about their meals are that the vegetables are fresh and have a light crunch, not like most Chinese places where they seem like they came straight from a can and have been swimming in liquid most of their sad, unnatural lives. In the negatives, the sushi is pretty outrageously priced. I'm not paying 4.95 for a California roll from a Chinese takeout place, especially when Osaka is half the price and about five minutes away. Silly. Also, they don't serve any alcohol whatsoever. This makes me sad. Overall though, great lunch specials and good for takeout. I like. read more

The cheese wontons + Sweet and sour (S&S) sauce is a killer combo. Golden Wok has never failed to impress me. I could live off that stuff! Their chicken & beef is always HIT or MISS though. I had lunch from there today, and the chicken and broc. was fantastic. I've noticed when I order from them late at night for delivery though, the beef can be rubbery and the chicken can be, just bad. If they get consistency, they get my 5th star! The late night delivery drivers are a little impatient too from what I've noticed, if you don't get to the door within a few seconds of their knock, they start heading back to their car. -.- read more

We take advantage of their very fast deliveries. The Dumplings and wonton soup are my favorites. When we order full meals, I request extra spicy...even "extra" is pretty "Minnesota spicy," so we add red pepper to help. The portions are quite large, and the veggie ratio is great! read more

This is a review of the take-out menu, as I have never dined in. The lunch prices (off the Luncheon Specials menu) are good - usually spend $10 or less on lunches and that is including tip for the delivery driver. Lunch portions are just right - just enough to fill you up (with maybe some leftover), but not too much. All Luncheon Specials come with fried rice (or white rice if you request) in the same container as your entree, so I always pick the entrees that do not contain noodles, as noodles + rice gets to be a bit much. If I was dining in I might get a noodle dish, though - I ordered noodles the first time I got take-out and I liked them. Favorites include: Moo Goo Gai Pan, Shrimp w. We stopped in yesterday to try the sushi and it was amazing. As an appetizer we had chicken egg rolls, nothing super exciting but OK. The sushi plate looked awesome and tasted delicious. I just had their cashew chicken lunch and it was SO good. I am being that annoying coworker at the office who is telling everyone about how amazing my lunch was. I've gotten this many times (it's my go-to) and every time it's amazing. Today I just decided it was worth sharing online. Not a bad place to go if you're in the mood for your basic chinese fare. They've got a website that has expired and/or their online ordering has been deemed "insecure", so I'd recommend calling your order in if you want delivery. The food is solid, but nothing super fantastic. I have a theory that pretty much all chinese restaurants order their food and ingredients from the same comapny. ( http://www.asianfoods.com/ - you KNOW you've seen these trucks everywhere on the highways.) And so, one of them pretty much tastes and looks like the rest. Golden wok is no exception. Their sushi is the basic buffet sushi assortment, except for a full meal price. I'd recommend ordering the "make your own combo", which allows you to get two full rolls of your choice. It seems to be the best deal for your money. Some of the individual a la carte pieces are also pretty tasty, if not pricey. To make it short and sweet: It's close by and they deliver, so when I'm in the mood for chinese and I'm feeling lazy, I order from them. It tastes pretty good and it hits the spot. Always have loved Golden Wok. Always until tonight. The delivery guy was the worst I've ever encountered. The front door was already open. The first time he knocked I yelled I'll be right there. He proceeded immediately to knock again. I yelled a little louder and in no more than 10 seconds he knocked again. I yelled at full force I'll be right there and he knocked again! I was freakin PISSED! It's a 700sq ft house and I was trying to get my robe on and the front door is 10 feet away! I proceeded in front of his face to take out his tip and throw it on the couch. I yelled at him to stop knocking so many **** times in 30 seconds. He didn't care. He then tried to open my door and yell at me for 42 cents. I highly doubt he had 58 cents in change and he was beyond impatient. I told him you blew your tip. He ordered me to give me the food back....for 42 cents. I yelled at him to immediately get off of my property or I will call the police. He would not leave. I opened the door so that the whole neighborhood could they could hear at full yelling to get off of my property NOW or I will press charges for trespassing. I had to repeat this yelling 3 times until he decided to leave. I did call the restaurant very very upset and was NOT compensated. read more

I wrote that I had a peanut allergy on my pickup instructions and once I ate the food, I had a severe allergic reaction and was forced to use my Epipen. Peanuts are the only food I am allergic to so it was this food that sent me to the hospital with extreme symptoms including throat swelling. My nurse at the hospital told me that this is not the first time they have had someone with a peanut allergy come to the hospital because of this restaurant. The food is good, but not any better than most other Chinese restaurants and the service is not good. I don't know if they are all owners that run it, but when you call they are rude and rush you off the phone so don't try and ask questions. We were told a time our order would be done, but when we arrived to pick it up it is not ready. They told me to wait in my car and they would bring it out. After waiting a half hour I asked about my order, the man said " did you call to let us know you were here?" Really?!? He gave me my order with no apology for forgetting about us and the food had sat out and was cold. I am disappointed because I had heard how good the food is, but I will not spend my money supporting a business that doesn't have good customer service. I don't like the lack of friendliness. Very disappointed the majority of times that we've ordered from here. Unfortunately, they're the only place that delivers to us. The food is never fresh or flavorful, but was particularly confused when I ordered chicken chow mein and the "noodles" came in a packet, with the dish mainly composed of celery and a few shreds of chicken.
