I just came on a day pass and was compelled to write a review based on how easy it was to check out without getting hard sold into a membership like what I experienced at LA Fitness down the street. First off, I had an Austin address which is required for the day pass. Secondly, I entered basic info and signed the waiver. I didn't have to then meet with a sales rep who would used high pressure sales tactics (scarcity, urgency, blah blah) to enjoy jt workout (unlike my LA Fitness experience). The gym would either sell itself or it wouldn't. Tomas at the front desk was very warm and personable, a very refreshing exchange. As for the gym itself, I like the layout, but it's definitely outdated. I'm going with a gym closer to me that is higher end, but I recommend using the day pass (if you're an Austin resident) to see if it's a good fit for you or not. read more

Price is competitive, there's a huge variety of machines available with little wait, most everything is reasonably clean and in working order, it just works. The place isn't fancy, the medium-hard sell on personalized training is annoying but avoidable, but overall, it's a decent place. Most patrons are there to exercise rather than sit on a machine and smartphone away, and a good 85% of them exercise good gym courtesy. read more

Most of the time I can't log on and if I do get logged on finally, then it boots me off in the middle of whatever podcast I'm listening to. Usually, I can't get back on. They don't know, but they are losing business because of this. My husband moved to LA fitness five minutes away because they have great Internet. The only reason I'm staying is because I do like the people that work there but it's very frustrating they refuse to fix their Internet. I'm here between 5 to 6 days a week. if you don't want to deal with the rush, avoid when they open and starting from 4 to 6. The rest of the time is breezy. I really like the people that work here. They got me hooked because of how nice they are. When I walk in the door, they know my name and when I leave, they say goodbye. I find myself getting caught up and talk because of how friendly everyone is. Especially Denise! She's great. The only reason I'm not giving this five stars is because frequently having to try to find a paper towel to clean my sweat off the machine. that's not even really worth docking a full star but since there's no halves you know. I did personal training with Nick for around six months going twice a week. He really did an excellent job of helping me to get my form in place. He really helped me to build a routine for myself. Lots of parking. Lots of machines and free weights. Locker room could use a refresh, but it's really not bad at all. And most importantly, everybody who works out there typically leaves you alone and just focuses on their own workout. read more

Probably my favorite gym in the area. Equipment isn't new but much of it feels more functional than some of the newer stuff at other gyms. The leg equipment is superb, somehow can be hard to find around here. Decent crowd but never too busy when I go. Sparingly have to wait to use equipment. Gym seems well maintained and some of the staff even acknowledge you by name. A few machines could probably be put to sleep. 6/5 if the TVs played more sports read more

It's a good little gym to visit for a decent workout. It's limited in equipment compared to ones in California which I don't know why because Texas has soo much space to offer. I wish they had more machines than cardio equipment here. The gym can have peak busy times where you tend to wait for open racks or machines. For travelers it's a nice spot to lift at I'll say. Been coming here for 2 years and only because it's the "best" option in the area. It's your standard commercial gym. Overcrowded, dirty, broken equipment is a standard here. It is cheap, well at least for me and my legacy rate. The golds downtown is even worse so I drive extra to go and go out of my way to avoid that location. The sauna is the best part about this place but i stg they don't clean it. Some dude was wrung out his clothes in the sauna like it was a shower. Which brings me to my next point, the crowd is also not good. Between the extreme meat heads and no one racking their weights, you can expect to go to every weight rack full of plates. I'll continue to stay here simply because austin lacks accessible private gyms. read more

Save yourself the massive headache and don't join this gym. I've been a member of Golds for 10 years. Despite my tenure at this gym, they required that I give 30 days notice on membership cancellation. In any other industry, that would be insane - can you imagine if you wanted to cancel your Amazon prime membership and they made you give 30 days notice (and made you pay for those 30 days)? I guess that's why this place has a bad reputation. I canceled my membership because Golds is generally disorganized, has bad communication about group class offerings, and has a website that's never updated. This is a continuation of a review I posted earlier where I gave 3 stars. An issue raised by many 1 star people is the cancellation policy and theft. The cancellation policy is clearly written in the contact when joining Gold's. That's required by law. I wonder if the critics read their contract. Yes, 30 days written notice, hand-delivered is required but an emailed cancellation will be accepted for extenuating circumstances, as I had to do once. I've never been charged after cancellation. I travel and have joined and canceled membership several times, never with a problem because I follow the rules. I always put my gear in a locker with a good lock but I've noticed many members use lockers without attaching a lock. That is careless and asking for trouble. I've never had any problems with Sunny or any of the staff as they have always been helpful when asked. What I find odd about several 1 star reviews is that they have used the facilities for years and base their entire review on one bad incident, ignoring all the positives. read more

I go to damn near every golds gym in austin and this one is pretty below average. The staff is among the best as far as friendliness and greeting but aside from that? Dirty, broken equipment stays broken, trash is always pouring over the top, men's restroom is utterly disgusting. Wifi NEVER works. I put in a request for two machines that are broken about 3weeks ago and I'm back today with both still broken. Not even a sign up, just broken equipment that's still being used and may cause injury. Yeah, they are renovating to look better, but they really need a DEEP CLEANING and maintenence needs to fix the broken equipment. Since my first post, thing have only gone downhill. They deleted my photos of the restroom and replaced them with some BS advertising photos. In the past week I've seen 2-3 people barefoot on the floor (not for squats for like shoulder presses) , a little girl 12-14years old working out solo, and now a member brings his dog into the gym. Stay tuned. Maybe in a few weeks an orgy will break out in the sauna. read more

I've been in the fitness industry for 20 years, and this might be the best Gold's Gym location I have ever been to. They have the best pieces of equipment I've ever seen in one location. A little more of a body building gym, but great for anyone. Highly recommend. If you don't like people who are jacked, maybe go somewhere else. read more

Tweaker gym peppered with off-cycle roid bros and geriatric Austinites who bought property eons before this part of town became a homeless encampment. Gets points for being one of the few remaining Golds that still feels like a gym and not an impersonation of a health club. The old Cybex equipment is a treat, although I wouldn't expect it to be around for long. They've already gotten rid of a few vintage machines that made this location a destination and replaced them with new, friendlier-looking alternatives that absolutely blow. The gym was useful when I was a member. Plenty of machines and perks; however the sauna was ALWAYS broken. At one point it was broken for 2.5 months. At that time I was moving and canceled my membership. Back in July of 2023. Not before they spent 20+ minutes of my time trying to talk me into staying. No matter what reason I gave they kept pushing me to stay or place my account on hold even offering me a cheaper membership. I expressed to them the price wasn't the issue I just wanted to cancel and go elsewhere not for any reason other then wanting a change of routine. Next thing I know I'm being called every SINGLE DAY sometimes 3 times a day and blowing me up with emails. They kept charging my account and after I spoke with a representative they apologized and said "we will make a note on this account" I assumed that meant they would stop. It didn't and they kept charging me. So finally I called and made a complaint and canceled my card. Since then they have still continuously called and emailed. This point I ignored them almost changed my number so it would stop. They sent me notifications saying I owed them money so once again I spoke with someone at the desk informing them I already canceled months ago "they apologized once again" and stated they had no record to indicate I canceled and that I would need to go into the location I originally signed with to go through the process once more. Unfortunately this ticked me off as I was dealing with a family member in the ICU and had no time on my hands to drive all the way to Austin to do this again. I informed them of this while it was clear I was pissed with them and their ignorance. Now I get an email stating they contacted a lawyer to collect a balance of $148. I will NEVER go back to golds as I'm overwhelmed and exhausted with their lack of customer care and duties. This should not have happened especially on more then one occasion. read more

The best location. Personal trainer Lilli Poulson is amazing!!!! I can't say it enough. She truly listens to you and is very considerate human being. She's always happy and kind. She'll kick you butt with personal training as well. Another lovely trainer is Marie Brown! She's awesome! Both amazing trainers at this location. Check them out!!!!!! This location has an indoor track. No pool. There is a cardio cinema room, a golds fit and burn. Also, Saturday cycle with Jenn is a great class. Child care staff is great, especially Nelda! At golds they do this total body scan and also checks your blood sugar. This is an amazing free offer that I suggest taking advantage of! read more

I've tried a few gold level Gold's gyms and this is still my favorite. It has a good south Austin vibe, lots of machines, cleaner than most and they're giving it a facelift. She cleans up well. 4 squat racks, 2 Smith machines, 4 flat bench, plenty of cables and on and on. Highly recommended. Still my preferred Gold's. read more

Theft alert!!! 3/1/22, around 2:30pm, the thief stole my car key from my locker, searched, found my car and took my wallet from the car with $200-300cash. Spend total of $1262.75 credit cards at 3:04pm at Target and HEB in South Park Media location. I admit my carelessness but very disappointed we have a thief in the gold gym community. I reported to the police and talked to the manager in the gym. Hopefully I catch him, very possible he is gym member and walked in around 2pm and got out between 2:35 -2:48pm. To whom it may concern, Less than an hour ago, I was yet again singled out and harassed by the GM of the South Austin location on Ben White. The persons name is Sunny which is hilarious because her disposition is anything BUT that. A few months back, my car was broken into and my partners wallet was stolen. My partner was not able to change his card in time before he got charged his monthly dues and was issued a fee. We politely asked her to reverse the fee explaining that my car was broken into etc and I KNOW FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE from the same exact thing happening to me, that Golds policy is you get one of those a year to wave no matter what. SHE REFUSED TO DO IT and said that wasn't a thing. We literally called and they waved it no questions asked. I've been a member on and off for over 12 years and I have NEVER been treated so poorly as I have by this woman and now she's done it twice! Scroll to today, I'm in the MIDDLE OF A SET, and she comes and stands ARMS CROSSED and taps her ear motioning for me to take my headphones out....(First of all, how rude is that right off the bat!) I finished my set, took my headphone out and said "yes?".....per the new policy you can't have gym bags on the floor. My locker has been broken into multiple times throughout the years so I refuse to do so. I also carry a ball and roller for stretching, braces, aminos, tons of stuff and I will never lock my stuff up again for all that to be stolen! We've all been carrying our bags on the gym floor for years and when I asked what the reason was she replied "because people are stealing equipment"....WHAT A JOKE. So I told her she's accusing me of being a thief and she replied, we can keep it at the front desk for you. ALL OF THIS WAS IN A CONDESCENDING TONE and I literally asked her to not talk to me like a child. SHE THEN TOLD ME I HAD A COUPLE MINUTES AND WALKED AWAY. A COUPLE OF MINUTES OR WHAT?!?!? I abruptly left! So she also ruined another workout. There are multiple machines broken, it's dirty and completely disorganized which is why I RARELY come to this location. MAYBE SHE SHOULD GET HER SPACE IN ORDER BEFORE SHE GOES ON ANOTHER POWER TRIP ABOUT A GYM BAG THAT ISNT BOTHERING ANYONE!!! I will NEVER workout at this location again and this GM should be fired. The staff is so rude. There's this lady at the front desk she had a ugly attitude. I don't remember her name but she's sort of chunky and has dark brown hair and a lot of make up. Don't mean to be so harsh but that's really the only way to point her out. She has the worst attitude problem and when I asked if she's the manager she kinda said "no" "what's up" and looked at me so aggressive. That kinda ruined my experience at that place. Like wouldn't you think if you go into any "business" the people at the front desk WHO IS REPRESENTING the BUSINESS should do a much better job at WELCOMING the guest and members? Complaint Type: Billing or Collection Issues Description of Complaint: To all potential Gold's Gym members, This company's billing policies are fraudulent and infuriating. It's October 29th, 2020. When the pandemic started in February, the gyms closed during March for a few months. Yet, I was still being charged membership fees. There was and is NO WAY TO CANCEL ONLINE during this time, no information on their website, and no one at the gym to cancel with. This is a trap to take people's money without any way to stop it. What a crock! Horrible customer service, illegal pursuit of payment. So, I blocked Gold's Gym from payment on the card they had on file in March. There was no other way to cancel or pause the membership. During the damn pandemic! I would not be allowed access to the gym because my account would be in arrears. They had no billing information for me on file for me any longer. I was no longer a member according to any standards. Fast forward four months later to August, and out of nowhere I start receiving relentless emails (DAILY) and collection phone calls (DAILY) for four months of billing I supposedly owed. The first notification of a billing issue was sent to me FOUR MONTHS LATER(!) with a bill saying I owed $150. I was also told that I needed to GO TO THE GYM TO CANCEL DURING THE PANDEMIC. Are you kidding me this is how this company operates?? I was so angry to have go into a public gym during the pandemic! Who are the idiots working out in a gym at that time???? I went to the store, infuriated, and canceled "officially" in September, with a written receipt that I received in person. The following two months, I continued to receive calls and emails, while my bill CONTINUED TO GROW! I will be pursuing legal action for illegitmate billing practices unless my account is fully cleared of any outstanding costs. Rude, unscrupulous, gross, sleazy! Desired Settlement: Billing Adjustment Desired Outcome Description: Clear my bill to $0 or I will file a lawsuit about unsafe and illegal billing practices. I will let every person online know through Google reviews, Yelp, Facebook, and BBB about the horrible customer service and billing practices of this dinosaur of a company. The gym itself is probabably a 2/5. But most of the staff makes it a 1/5. Systems are often down or broken. The receptionist NEVER knows what to do. Anytime there is any interaction with an employee here, it's just bad energy every single time. I really don't understand it. I've been to a golds gym in probably 20 states. Bottom of the barrel here FOR SURE. But it's close to my house and downtown ATX is absolutely out of the question! Maybe they need new management. Multi million dollar corporation here. Do yourself a favor, just don't. Don't do it. Once you enter the Gold's Gym billing cycle nightmare it is very time consuming and frustrating to get out of that nightmare. I never had a a contract with Gold's, they gave me a veteran's discount and it was month to month. I have not been to this gym since Feb and around Sept I noticed they were still charging me. So on Nov 17th I called to cancel and of course they give you this horse shit about cancelling in person. This was unacceptable during a pandemic. I finally got a lady named Sunny on the phone who then sent an email confirming the cancellation. So don't lay down for the "cancel in person only" crap. They just wanna bust your balls and delay the cancellation as long as possible so they can keep charging you. However, they still continued to charge my credit card. I finally had to have Chase put a block on the card. Then the robo calls started from Gold's about payment. Then the threatening emails started about payment. THEN, they used another location or D.B.A. business name that Chase did not have a block on, and on Dec 4th 2020 a full 17 days after cancellation I got not one, not two, not three, but FOUR fuckin charges on the card from Gold's on the same day. Three charges for $20 each and one for $34.63. I again called Chase and they blocked this new dba/location as well and credited me back the charges. They'll probably pull the same crap in a month or two and use another dba to charge me and round and round we go. I am still not out of this Gold's Gym billing nightmare. I would also like to point out that I visited the gym twice in 2020. 2 times. Twice. For that I paid $34.63 a month for several months. I think they got a helluva deal, hundreds of dollars for 2 visits. That's not enough for Gold's though, they want to rip your guts out for every nickel they can even after cancellation. I don't even know how this is legal what they're doing. It shouldn't be. read more

I have been going here for about six years now, since after my first son was born, and I love this gym. Their Fit program is amazing - and Ren and Eddie are amazing personal trainers. BUT, the real draw here is the Kids Club. I can't tell you enough about how amazing the people there are. If I could have Miss Nelda be an adopted grandma to my sons I probably would. She even had a little first birthday party for my youngest son because she's that loving and amazing. We started when my oldest boy was only 9 weeks old - he is six now and he still adores her. Alli, Clarissa, Maria and Sam are all fantastic too. They don't let me kids get away with too much, but they are kind and patient. Really can't say enough about how great they all are. read more

I've been to most of the Gold's Gyms in austin and this is my favorite one. Big, good AC, and LOTS of equipment. This location has two platform squat racks as well as more normal ones, so you rarely have to wait. Great staff as well. Just wish Golds required masks because NO ONE wears them, including staff. read more

I was at the gym today. A man has his water bottle near a leg press machine while doing squats with free weights in his hands walking up and down the isle. I sat down on the leg press Machine, the man walked up to me and told me to GET UP HIS STUFF WAS HERE AND HE USING GHE MACHINE. I said no you can't speak to me like that. He went and got the employee who told me to get up abs use another machine his water bottle is here so he is using the machine. No he wasn't he was using feee weights at the time. Water bottles do not claim machines. I said when he is done with the free weights I'll be done. I was told if I do not get up he will call the POLICE on me. WHAT? Two men talking to a woman like this is crazy over a water bottle near a machine not even in the cup holder. I guess I should have been psychic. I had to raise my voice to even be heard. My boyfriend has been coming to this gym for years, and he added me to his membership. It doesn't have a lap pool which is my preferred cardio exercise, but it will do. I do enjoy the media room. I can get on an elliptical or bike and next think you know an hour had gone by. So far they have picked cool movies to play. I have not had any interaction with staff so I cannot say if they have or do not have acceptable customer service skills. In terms of my year contract, I did ask my boyfriend not to renew I prefer a gym with pool. But I will miss this place unless they install a pool then I am staying :) read more
