I wanted to like this gym because it's close to my house but I just can't bare the carelessness of this place. When you walk in and see a person behind the counter sitting on top of the place where they make the smoothies, you can't help but think - how unsanitary. No one wants Butt in their smoothies. Gross. When you workout, have fun finding any of the equipment you need, as everything is scattered all over the place. Barbells on the floor, weight plates on the floor where you can easily trip, nothing is in place. I understand there are signs to tell people to put weights back in place but it's obvious they do not. So instead of sitting on counters on your cellphone maybe go around the building and put the crap away. What else are they getting paid for? read more

Machines still in disrepair. You'd think since Planet Fitness opened up the road, they would appreciate their loyal customers & do more to retain them. 2 of the paper towel dispensers have been broken for over 3 months. I don't get it. Sounds stupid, but when you're working out & you want to wipe machines down, it shouldn't be a dog & pony show. The only reason I stay there is I'm 6'5" & I cannot use the ellipticals at PF. My options are limited, but if you're going to start a regimen for the new year, consider going elsewhere. I Have visited his gym on many different occasions and every time I go the gym is filthy and people at the front desk are always rude. This gym is definitely not worth the money. I walked in the other day considering another membership and I was told one thing on the phone and then when I got there this young female told me I didn't know what I was talking about and that I was wrong and that the guy who spoke to me didn't know what he was talking about. I visited this gym with my family for a week complimentary, and even though I did not sign up for service with them I wish I had. The facilities are spacious and clean and have much much more to offer than other local gyms. The classes are real classes with instructors. If I could turn back the hands of time I would NEVER have signed a contract with Retro Fitness in Monroe and instead invested in Golds Gym. The children are happy and well cared for. The staff is friendly and not trying to "pull one over on you" just ensure you a great workout. This is a place that honored their commitments and did not make me feel racially profiled or lesser of a person because maybe I can't afford more. Kudos Golds. read more

I have been a member of Gold's gym in Harriman for 4 years. Met the general manager once to find out more information about my wallet being stolen out of a locker in the locker room. She was very confrontational and blamed me for not locking my locker. I understand it was my fault for not locking my locker but at least assure your customer your doing your best in trying to figure out a solution for this "common theft problem" so it does not happen to anyone else. She had absolutely no sympathy and told me I was wasting her time for bringing my concern up to her. The gym itself is dirty, there are holes in the wall, equipment scattered everywhere and apparently the gym has a lot of felons that enjoy picking up heavy weights and putting them down. The gym is POORLY ran and managed. The general manager just sits in her room all day and collects a check for doing nothing to help the gym. AVOID THIS GYM. All they care about is your money and not you as a person. This environment is toxic I would recommend the Y over this gym. read more

This is a really nice facility, so much better than the old one story building. There's lots of space and it's very clean. Plenty of equipment - squat racks, benches, free weights, machines. The free weights are never organized though, and they didn't try to replace them when they moved to this facility, so they're still the old clunky metal ones. The locker rooms have a sauna. I haven't used it, but it's nice to know they have one. There's also a smoothie bar next to the front desk. One thing about this place is that there is an abnormal amount of huge dudes. Like, real meatheads who put up some crazy weights. Pretty sure some of them are juicing. Out of all the different gyms I've been to, this one takes the cake for largest average size of members by far. Maybe it's because we're in Monroe, where there are so many things to do besides working out. This doesn't necessarily bother me - just something I've noticed. read more

Be prepared for many machines to be out of order. Also, of trust cell phone companies than I would Gold's Gym. They claim it's "month to month", which is a joke. This is a big space, seems fairly newly renovated and growing. But sticks true to its reputation. Focusing weights for the "meat head" client and reserving equipment for functional movement to the "trainer area". Not only is this concept antiquated but they mislead you to sign up. Was told that items like kettlebells are able to be used out of the trainer area if asked at the front desk (like s child at school). When came to sticking to that system, management failed. They keep the "trainer area and equipment" off limits. Needless to say I would not recommend a facility that focuses more on free tanning (cancer, thanks..) to functional weights. read more

Signed up in May & I love it. Very spacious, lots of free weights, lots of varied machines, Friendly staff, relatively clean locker rooms, offers sweat rooms & tanning, and more... my only gripes are there are only two flat benches for bench pressing, all their merch is STUPID expensive (a sleeveless t-shirt for $25 or a basic black hoodie for $55 all because it says Gold's Gym?), and there should be a separate parking lot for people taking JUST the classes because they take up like 80% of the parking spaces, and you only get 1 scoop of protein in your protein shakes (could be anything from 17g-20g of protein and they won't tell you)...Oh, and any time after 5p, the gym is filled with true meatheads - doesn't bother me, but might turn off others. read more

I attended this gym as a guest and was grossed out by the amount of dust and other particles found on the machines, between the machines, and on the mats. I also took a spin class and walked out. The instructor did not advise new spinners on proper form and use of the bike. She seemed to only care about her own workout. She was not motivating and criticized people that couldn't keep up with her. I will not be returning to this establishment again. read more

I have just been charged an annual maintenance fee and now I am being told my monthly payment will not be refunded after being total by numerous staff members there that it would and don't worry about it. In a year where so much death has come to our loved ones and unemployment has affected many in our household, Golds gym only cares about the $. I wouldn't have minded paying if I was told the truth from the get go but I was repeatedly lied to in order to perhaps get me off the phone. Instead of worrying about dollars and cents you should worry about your customers. You have now lost a customer for life due to your dishonesty and pettiness and your customer retention will decrease so much. Totally unfair and dishonest but to be honest from this Golds I'm not surprised. I just feel sorry for the people who are barely making it by pay check to pay check who were promised a refund and now have to struggle that much more due to Golds gym ineptness to tell the truth and do the right thing for their long standing customers. read more

A while back, my boyfriend and I decided to find a gym in our home-town. We stopped here and honestly couldn't even see the gym. We asked to take a look and they said we had to fill out this paper work. It was asking for things like social security number. We thought they misunderstood and tried to clarify with them that we just wanted to see it, not sign up. I understand that with any gym you have to sign a waver before you go out on the floor, but this wasn't a simple waver form. We asked them if we could leave off our social security number and email address and just take a tour and they said no, we had to completed the form to see the gym. Obviously we left. That doesn't even make sense. Not sure if it was a new, confused employee or something, but that's horrible practice. read more

Worst gym experience. I had been going to Gold's gym in Monroe due to a good friend's recommendation. My partner and I have been members for the last 6 months and met with our friend this morning in the gym, where one of the manager's warned us and our friend about training. Our friend explained that we are good friend s and was not training us simply there was not another bench and she was telling us to keep our arm straight. Then another manager came to speak to our friend and it seems this was more "personal" btwn them and started yelling at her and said that she would revoke our membership as well. We had nothing to do with their issues but when I went over to question why our memberships were being threatened she primarily said TOO bad and had her father" the owner" come over who said "you don't like it then you run my business, come in my office and you can buy my business, otherwise get out" I have never been met with such poor business customer service. They were embarrassing and rude. Then he told us to leave immediately or we would be "trespassing". I am contacting corporate offices for Gold's , which I told them I would and they said "so what, call we are an individual franchise they can't do nothing" I am outraged by their attitude and very upset about how we were unnecessarily harassed at the gym in front of many other members. Also I for the male owner, screaming in a females face is uncalled for and threatening. read more

Horrible "gym." The facility is in a constant state of disrepair; as others had mentioned, half the free weight floor space was under repair for a month. To compensate, they pushed all the benches together-- nothing like trying to do a set with your head two inches from another guy's crotch! Although no fault of the gym's, the general crowd that frequents this gym isn't really there to get in a work out; they're there as a social event; it's a place to sit, talk to your friends, take a few selfies, and be seen... all while occupying equipment. Speaking of the equipment, it's usually broken. Then after attempting to work out, hit the showers-- hopefully you enjoy showering surrounded by black mold and the scent of urine. read more

Horrible Gym! Many of the machines are broken and they take like a month to fix. This is ridicules. Especially at the price I am paying. I pay 50 a month and i can join planet fitness for 10 a month or even retro for 20 a month. And yet golds has broken machines. read more

The machines are great and the space is even better. But it's 1 high school reunion everytime you walk in. And I must say the staff/management is the rudest group of people I've ever interacted with. It's like you are always a bother and a waste of time. They honestly don't care about if they lose a member or not. They may know fitness but nothing about customer service and keeping members satisfied. read more

I've been a member here for almost 4 years now and its the worst I've ever seen it. The owner seems to care more about lining his pockets with money than actually fixing broken equipment. There is a hole in the floor, their solution was to duct tape a cone over it. You're lucky if every 4th treadmill actually works, and every week a handful of machines are down as well. read more
