I've been to Planet Fitness and most recently LA Fitness and just recently made the switch to Gold's Gym. All staff is very friendly. The main selling point for us was the Kids Club, very convenient hours to bring our toddler while we work out! The ladies locker room is nice and clean from what I've seen. Some gym equipment is a bit old, doesn't work as smooth (referring specifically to Glute Machine- donkey kicks lol) But looks like this gym is going to be getting a huge upgrade since as of yesterday, it is under new ownership! As soon as we walked in yesterday, we were promptly greeted by the new team, they were very friendly and informative and happily asked for feedback! They seem like they love what they do and represent the gym very well! I already love this gym, but if they had the tanning and a pool, it would be PERFECT! It would also be nice if they had water bottle friendly refill stations. 2025 UPDATE!! They have new owners and have turned this gym around. All new equipment and great staff. they have a whole section just for legs and a new indoor field. it's basically 4 gyms in one with two machine sections and free weight sections with a leg section and a functional training section. Read the fine print! Their membership contract idicates they can raise rates without notice - and they do! Several months ago they doubled my rates. Two days ago they raised rates AGAIN. This time by $15. Classes are fun. They've worked to update the gym with new bikes for the spin classes and new weights for their other classes, but the freedom to raise rates whenever they want with no notice is a deal breaker for me. read more

I would rate 0 if I could! My daughter has a Gold's membership in California. She is part of Team USA and was in Rockhill in March for a month for training. She went in to get a pass for the month. After filling everything out they said she could not workout there because she was a minor (17) yet they have been charging her $69.99 a month since March. I (parent) have tried to call corporate and cannot get a live agent or even a voicemail. The branch told her she has to cancel on the App. She didn't even get a membership because of being a minor ( she was denied gym use) yet they have been charging her every month. The app is not working on our phones and the branch refuses to cancel this and do right by her and refund her all the money that they owe her!!!!! She has called multiple times!!! I love seeing all the new equipment and their attention to detail when it comes to making sure the gym is clean and friendly environment. It's extremely disheartening to see how far Gold's Gym has fallen, Gold's Gym use to be an inspiration for people of all walks of life but under New Ownership/ Management this place has gone completely down hill, there's never any hand sanitizer,no soap or tissue in restroom,no tanning beds, no spray bottles to clean the equipment after use, why do we the members pay so much money monthly and we never have gym equipment that even works. The process to cancel your membership is a nightmare- my account is still being charged even though I moved to college and haven't been to the gym in over a year. They rope you into a confusing contract and the process to cancel is through the app and a third party service. I'm supposed to make a 30 day cancellation notice via email with proof that I have moved away & therefore need to cancel. Absolutely ridiculous, I don't know who has time for this. The manager could hardly greet me upon walking in the door, making me feel very awkward and like I was doing something wrong upon inquiring about cancelling my membership. Not one time, not two times but on 3 different occasions I have gone up to the workers about faulty equipment that isn't just alittle dangerous but majorly dangerous! Buyer beware. By far the absolute worst experience I've EVER had with a gym in all the many years I've been working out. There is a clause in the contract that says if you live over 25 miles away from Golds you can cancel your membership at anytime. I was told this by Paul, the General Manager. I have been trying to cancel for months now. I live in Chester temporarily, moving back to Cali soon, which is over 25 miles away and both Paul and Golds have been dicking me around putting my life in jeopardy. Don't join this gym! Do not sign up for this gym!! Im not one to write reviews but I had to warn others!! I signed up for a year-long membership, a few months later had to move out of state. They refused to cancel my membership even with proof of moving. Would not let me out for the entirety of the year long contract. Even after several phone calls/emails with their third-party payment company. Also, what they won't tell you is the ANNUAL contract AUTOMATICALLY RENEWS for membership. If you do not send a 30-day written notice before your year-long membership is supposed to end, they will renew you automatically for another year and will not let you out of it again!! I almost feel this is some sort of scam bc of all the problems/ random payment charges it caused. This is the worst gym membership that I have/will ever have solely bc of this the third party payment company. It truly is not worth the headache. Take your money elsewhere!! I will never give golds gym my business ever again. I wish I could fit all my bad experience into this one post but I'll stick with the money points. If you were looking for a gym that cares about their members, they do not. They only want your money. This gym offer contracts that you're locked into most are no less than 1 year with insane down payments and fees. They recently canceled their insurance plan for people who go to the gym through their insurance so they lost over 100 members. I decided to leave since my friend would no longer be going and she told me ESPORTA (recently known as la fitness) was doing $5 down and $25 a month. Which is better than my membership. Also no fee to cancel. I called to cancel and was told the ONLY WAY to cancel was to send an email to corporate and I'd hear back within 5-7 business days. NOT ONLYYYYY that, but I have to give a 30 day notice so they will be charging me for additional month and the gym bi annual gym maintenance fee. These types of business are so nasty and the owners of this gym took 2 years to even get any new or updated equipment. It's out of date, machines are constantly broken and they have horrible employee retention which probably says a lot about management. So if you want to be charged insane fees and deal with constant BS, then I totally recommend this place! Do better golds. read more

I came to get information this morning and the person at the front desk was rude. I'm not sure what happened, but he didn't even greeted us. We started asking about the memberships and other information and he seemed annoyed to answer our questions. I have never being to a Gold's gym and now I don't even want to ask for any information. Full service gym in rock hill sc. in my search of gyms in the rock hill area not one of them really had the amount of amenities for the price as golds. With of course a complete array of free weights, machines, and cardio equipment they also have a great selection of classes. Some other great high points are a steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, pool, supervised children's area, and separate workout area for women which my wife loves. Facilities are clean and the staff friendly. Very misleading staff, they will only tell you what you want to hear and will end up screwing you over in the end. I left to college and told them to freeze my account until I came back, and was informed that it would be unfrozen whenever I let them know I was back in town. Before even asking me again they automatically assumed and unknowingly started charging my account for 6 months that I didn't even use. Literally not one time did I step into that gym during that dura and now I have been placed in collections owing over 200. The managers are smart asses and have a "know it all" attitude. you couldn't pay me enough to step back into this shit hole. Need better customer service and better management. 100% Do not recommend. The staff is so rude and cause issues for no reason. While I was leaving they were shouting rude things at me and when I told them to cancel my membership they acknowledged me saying that but then continued to charge me. I emailed them being very kind just simply asking for my money back since I canceled my membership and they told me no and said they think they should keep it since i was "being rude" to the staff. Weather I was being rude or not they have no right to keep my money. They are not professional at all and when I told them I wanted to speak to the owner they said they were the owner. I requested to no longer be a member since 2020. It has been over a year of no affiliation with this gym. AVOID THIS GYM. My review is going to be long, but read this before you consider a membership here! My experience at this gym has been bad from the start. First of all, upkeep of the gym. I signed up for Golds Gym in Rock Hill back in July of 2020 when I moved here from Arizona. I noticed on our tour, one of the fluorescent lights by the treadmills was flickering, but I didn't think much of it. 4 months later, that light is still buzzing and flickering. I come work out every morning at 5am and get ready in the locker room for work. Two of the four fluorescent lights by the sinks in the locker room have been out for at least a month and the soap dispensers are always out and rarely changed. On weekends I come in during staffed hours, and I have never seen any of the staff doing any cleaning, and they don't enforce the mask rule. They only sit at the desk on their phones and barely notice when someone walks up to them for help. Most recently, there have been two incidents that have completely turned me off. There is one female trainer who I see every morning when I'm in the locker room, we usually share a polite hello and that's it. On election day, she came in and went on a religious tirade about how if one of he candidates wins, the world is going to end (according to her pastor). She went on for about 5 minutes and I felt absolutely backed into a corner and was astonished by the lack of professionalism. All of that aside, what happened to me this weekend was the absolute last straw. Saturday morning, my boyfriend, best friend (who is not a member), and myself walked into Golds Gym just as their staffed hours were starting at 8AM. Their doors were still locked, so we buzzed in with my boyfriends key fab. When my boyfriend and I signed up for the gym, we were told that with our family plan, we had guest privilege's. So he buzzed in, and we walked into the gym. We were stopped by desk staff who explained that I had to register my guest and pay a $15 fee. I apologized for the misunderstanding and got my guest registered and charged the fee to my account. She also had to check me in which was no big deal. When we signed up, it was my understanding we had a family plan and only needed the one fab, but again that was a misunderstanding, so I was happy to sign in. All of that aside, we worked out, and about an hour later I got an email from the General Manager, Quaden Lee stating that I broke the rules and my account will be SUSPENDED until I pay a $100 fee. I spoke to Quaden and explained it was all a misunderstanding, a desk attendant explained everything to me, I got signed in, and paid for my guest, so no rules were broken and there must have just been a hiccup in communication. Quaden proceeds to tell me "you didn't know you had to check in a guest, what do you think this is, planet fitness?". I've simply never brought a guest to the gym before and thought I had guest privilege's. He proceeds to tell me "you never had guest privilege's so don't try to lie. you broke the rules and stole money from the company by not checking in when you come in". Not only was Quaden hostile over the phone, but he accused me of stealing when I pay my dues on time every month. So I'm being charged $100 for ACCIDENTALLY breaking a rule. Quaden's story changed from "you almost didn't sign in and tried to bring in a guest so because of that you are being charged" to "you paid for your guest so that's irrelevant, you're being charged because you come in every morning and don't sign in at the front desk, you just key in with your boyfriends key fab". So not only can Quaden not keep his story straight, it is my impression he just wants money. On top of that, over the phone he told me if I wasn't happy with this policy, I could cancel my membership for $500+. He is all but pushing me out the door of this gym. He then proceeds to tell me he "doesn't care if he loses two members and a potential member (my friend who joined us) because that's what it takes to enforce policy". This gym and their staff DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. read more

Absolutely ridiculous. I've been trying to cancel my membership for over a month now as I moved out of state to PA and there are no Gold Gyms within 60 miles of me. I was directed to speak Payments when I called originally, when I contacted Peak payments they told me I had to come down in Person since they only Accept Military orders/Drivers License as proof of move. I'm not part of the military and I don't drive so I don't have a license. So I bought a plane ticket and flew down to have this nightmare cancelled but I was told at the counter that this isn't their problem-this is after they had me walk around behind the counters, sign in on my PERSONAL email account to print of my lease as moving proof. Yikes. Then the counter agent decided it was above him fine-and offered me his managers personal phone number??? I said I didn't want that information and requested he call them but was again told it was not him problem. So I called the manager only to be told the police would be called on me for using his personal number. So now a plane tickets later and this nightmare continues as I'm stuck having to go back and forth for a membership in a state I know longer live in. Great read more

If I could give them less than one star I would. They do their best to keep you from cancelling. They made me come back 3 times saying they didn't have a manager around to cancel my membership. On the 3rd time I demanded that I wasn't leaving until they cancelled my membership. They still charged me for that month because it was less than 30 days notice though I told them when I came the first time that it was more than 30 days notice. Also their weight room is a joke. ANOTHER UPDATE- 4/26/16: I spoke to Sharon again and was once again promised that I would be refunded and no apology was given. I was also accused of "continually bashing" this gym. I don't think honesty is too much to ask for and I will continue to share my experiences regarding this matter until it is resolved. If that is considered bashing, then so be it. I was told to allow 7 days for my refund to be received. It has now been 7 days and I have not received a refund. Again, I highly advise anyone considering joining to stay away from this gym. Sharon Mason is the person from corporate that I have been communicating with and she is extremely unprofessional, condescending and rude. ANOTHER UPDATE- 4/16/16: I received an email from Sharon shortly after my last update on this review stating that I would not be charged for that extra month. Well, I checked my account today & I was charged yesterday. Stay away from this company, they will flat out lie to you. This gym is a joke UPDATE- 3/31/16: Sharon from "corporate" called me yesterday and promised to cancel the below mentioned fee and to send me an email for confirmation, which I never received. I called the same number back today to inquire about the email and spoke to someone named Donna. Donna was extremely rude and actually started yelling at me when I insisted on speaking to Sharon. She said she does not know when Sharon will be back because "she is always in and out" and of course I have no proof of what was promised to me, so I don't believe it. This whole experience has been unbelievably unprofessional. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This review will be pretty long, but I'll try to sum it up. Everything I was told from the day that I signed up at this gym was very misleading. I paid for a year in full and was supposed to pay month to month after the year was up. I live super close to what used to be Omni before Gold's took over and planned to visit that location most often. It was a much cheaper price to visit that location only, but I wanted access to both, so I paid about triple the lesser amount. When the new location opened, the old one shut down and never reopened, despite everyone being promised that it would reopen "soon" for several months. So the people who paid the much lesser amount still got to access the new gym. I knew that I did not want to stay at this gym, so I started calling 2 months before my term date to inquire about the cancellation process. I also spoke to both the manager and general manager and whoever runs this location's fb page regarding the reason I was unhappy with my experience at this gym and although everyone gave me completely different responses and conflicting information, it all boiled down to them not doing anything about it. I spoke to the manager and was told that I would need to come in and speak to a manager in person at least 2 weeks before my membership termed to avoid being charged again and I did so, exactly 17 days in advance. Once I got there and spoke to the general manager, I was told I would be charged one more time because I would have had to cancel 30 days in advance to avoid any further payment. I have my original paperwork and it does say that on there, however it also says that the gym would contact me at least 30 days in advance, reminding me of this. I never received anything via mail or email and neither have changed since I signed up. I do wish I had paid more attention to my paperwork and realize I am partly at fault in that regard, however, a MANAGER should be giving out correct information as well. Also, having been a member of Omni for years and this location ever since they have opened, I see that many of these positive reviews are from people who currently/previously worked at Omni/Gold's Gym. Before posting this, I contacted corporate and was informed that this location is not corporate, but individually owned, so they could not help me. Be careful, folks. You can't take this group at their word and you cannot rely on them to properly handle your account. I was really looking forward to Rock Hill finally having a nice facility, but I will need to look elsewhere or just work out at home. I joined in Aug 2014 under the premise that the new facility would be open in Nov/Dec 2014 and that by joining 'now' I would save when rates went up @ opening of new facility. The new facility 'opened' 11 months later in July 2015 but is no where near being complete. Additionally, the new facility does not have the amenities and areas advertised to members in the sign up process. In March, well before the debacle of the new, yet unfinished club opening in July, I was already feeling ripped off for having paid for this new gym for eight months with no opening date in sight. I chalked it up to a 'stupid tax' I would need to pay and sought to pay off my contract balance completely, ending the need for monthly drafts. Also wanted to be double sure this would not 'auto-renew' in August entrapping myself to another year of payments. Paying off my contract balance in full proved to be a hassle requiring multiple trips to the club, phone calls, emails with Golds and their billing folks. Due to the utter incompetence encountered when attempting to pay off my account, I decided it would be wise to close the account. Just as I suspected, even after the balance was paid in full, they continued to draft the closed account, and I know because I received DAILY phone calls and emails to contact them immediately regarding my membership. Ugh! To the manager's credit, he did get that issue resolved and also offered me one free month for my trouble. But I don't go...it's cramped and I just don't get a happy vibe due to the water under the bridge. The club at Epicentre is fantastic and I loved going there. But whatever is going on in Rock Hill is just 'off.' I would go elsewhere but if you do go, be very wary of signing any contract with them that includes anything they say will happen in the future. read more

I would like to say that I have been going to Gold's for about 7 months, quite possibly longer, and I have enjoyed my experience. I am greeted by workers when I enter and when I leave. There are fresh towels at my disposal 98% of the time (although on extremely busy days sometimes the smaller towels are in the wash and unavailable). When I need help learning how to use a machine there are staff members to assist me. The machines are clean, work well, and there is an abundance of equipment to meet your needs. A daycare room, pool, hot tub, lady's workout room, among many other commodities are provided! The free-weight section is quite squeezed though. At its busiest moments the weight section is packed and becomes a bit uncomfortable to be right next to everyone while you work out. I will say that it took longer than necessary to sign up and start my membership, and from other reviews it seems to be torturous to try and cancel one. read more
