A bit hot at this gym. Please crank up the AC!
    Charles B.

Review from the point of view of someone who goes to the gym six days a week for a few years now. I've been a member of multiple chain gyms throughout Bergen and Passaic County. I saw the reviews, asked about the monthly contract, and its price seemed somewhat fair. It's getting warmer these days and they don't seem to be turning up the AC! Most of the other gyms keep the temperature much cooler temperatures so that there are fewer people hanging out just wasting time on their cell phones and taking up equipment. If you're sweating five minutes into your workout, most likely it's not that you're working out hard. Even touching surfaces it's almost sticky due to high humidity. This is why I canceled my membership here. As far as equipment, it looks like they have everything you need for strength training. Some of the equipment needs to be oiled (WD-40) to cut the squeaks including ceiling fans. Two stars since the lack of air conditioning makes one feel like almost passing out. It could've been 3 or 4 stars. The gym should be somewhere you're happy, not feeling like you're going to die of heat exhaustion. I've gone at 5 AM+ and 10 PM+ due to my work schedule and it's great that you really have most members very into their workout versus the "seat warmers on their cell phones" however, that's most places especially during peak times. Overall, I really wish they'd crank up the AC and wonder if it's just to increase their refrigerated cold water sales. As the days get hotter, I don't want to be here! Things were not perfect however, AC is critical to keeping somewhat cool and pushing hard. When mentioning the desire to cancel, they didn't even seem to care that a person is canceling. The manager gives you the form but, will inform you to hand it in to the front desk teens. Good luck to existing and new members.

Don't go to @GoldsGym signed up for a free trial while gym shopping to the Teterboro location, I received my online confirmation and when me and my fiancee showed up they wouldn't let us enter. The gym wasn't even half full and we both had masks on.

Liz is a phenomenal teacher whose precision, attentiveness, and capacity to tailor her guidance to each student's body are nothing short of extraordinary. Her corrections are subtle yet transformative, and she leads with both authority and empathy, creating an environment of confidence, safety, and growth. It is regrettable that Liz's talents are not more broadly acknowledged within the gym. Her classes do not receive the same visibility or promotion as many of the more mainstream group activities--and that is a disservice both to her as an instructor and to potential students who would immensely benefit from her expertise. This is especially poignant during the season of Diwali, a sacred time in September/October that honors light over darkness, spiritual renewal, and the triumph of knowledge and mindfulness. Liz's approach to Pilates--centered on balance, breath, focus, and inner strength--resonates powerfully with the spiritual symbolism of Diwali. In fact, her class would have been an ideal program to promote during this period, as it aligns so beautifully with the themes of illumination, inner harmony, and self-transformation. Liz is not just a capable instructor--she is an extraordinary asset to the Pilates community. She deserves far greater recognition, support, and promotion so that more students can discover the profound value she offers. YMCA management needs to be open to your members needs. The diversity and age audience has changed. Idea - perhaps incorporating yoga class nights for couples while their children are being taken care of? Or maybe promoting Pilates evening class with "a thriller night with Pilates"?

With Machines and equipment as far as the eye can see, there is something for everyone! When you walk in, it instantly feels like you are transported into a Rocky or Creed movie with the energy S&S brings. It is so easy to lock in and focus on your workout because you are surrounded by so many like minded people who are there to do the exact same thing. It seems like we all have one goal in mind and that is to be the best and strongest version of ourselves. The staff is super friendly, the members are always willing to lend you a hand racking weights or correcting your form without feeling like you're an idiot for doing it incorrectly in the first place haha, and the owners are so nice and knowledgeable - you can tell they really care about this space and it's members. They are constantly updating and adding new machines, while keeping the spark of good old fashioned American muscle. They have been around for over 40 years, and I can see them up and running for another 40 years EASILY. I love it here and look forward to building more muscle, friendships, and confidence thanks to Strong & Shapely!

I convinced my wife to join since I'm a member so we can go together but she never goes and just pay the monthly. I got ambushed by the woman at the counter and asked me to voluntarily pay an extra $10 a month because they need money to keep the gym open. I'm already paying for 2 memberships; one that my wife doesn't use. Normally, when fees are increased, we get an email and a new contract saying that we have an option to terminate or pay higher fees. I declined to answer the question and have to think about it since I'm not here to discuss my bills but to work out and relax. They rationalize that I should pay more for community reasons of helping the gym stay open but I wonder if they will charge less once the covid vaccine is widely distribute and business returns to normal. I think they would just rationalize and keep it as their "profit?" since they are a business and chuck all the rosy community brotherhood talk out the window and just keep your money. But, ultimately, it was incredibly rude and unprofessional to persist and keep asking me the same question for more money over and over, causing a scene with the other gym patrons when I said i want time to think about it. That is, I said I want time to answer. But she just repeated the question and ignored my request for more time. She then kept pushing more aggressively for an answer and wouldn't let me go work out. I just started walking away and she persisted and said we can discuss after your work out maybe - like she wants an answer now and is aware she's pressuring me and I feel pressured, which is exactly her goal. Now it's like Im scared to go back since they might recognize me and keep harrassing me for more money. My wife has a membership that she doesn't use and if I keep getting scared to go back and keep getting harassed I think we should terminate our membership. Unprofessional. Rude. Thoughtless and lacking empathy.
