Great local gun store, with fair prices. The owner of the shop Rick is very friendly, and also super knowledgeable about new and vintage firearms. He has an amazing selection of ammo, including some calibers, that are usually harder to find the most places. Sometimes the ammo can be a bit pricey, but let's be honest, ammo is pretty expensive everywhere these days. I had damage the firing pin on my rifle, and Rick was able to fix it quickly and efficiently with parts that he had laying around the shop. The fee for fixing was much smaller than I anticipated, so I'll definitely be going here for any of my gunsmithing needs. read more

I was a first time gun buyer in April 2020. Everything was in very short supply. Most gun shops were extremely busy. Rick was one of the few people to really help me in the purchase of my first firearm. He's very knowledgeable, if you allow him to be. First of all no one was wearing masks and there was even an anti-mask sign on the door. When I walked in the man working there was very rude and unhelpful. I wasn't interested in any of the guns he had but still wanted to ask some questions but he just kept ignoring me. He kept giving my girlfriend weird looks and was clearly uninterested in helping us. Seems like is not a fan of helping women and younger people. read more

Rick & Bill are the best guys in Santa Barbara area and beyond to do all gun sales with, no one else can even compare. Yea they look you over a bit and size you up, but if I were in their shoes I would do the same. There great guys that take the gun business very serious, let's face it there are plenty of weird fools out there that will sell you any sort of firearm as long as you are breathing, have a pulse and a wallet full of money. I find their prices reasonable, sure I can get guns cheaper however, for a few extra bucks they are worth it because I know in a pinch they'll take care of me. Life just works that way when you treat people as your equal. Don't take my word for it drop by and exchange a few stories with them and size them up yourselves you won't be sorry. Owners very welcoming, greets you as you come in and helps you as soon as he is available. I bought a M&P9 from him and he went out of his way to get one stocked for me and was very helpful in getting my HSC complete. He has quite a few long guns and handguns, but nothing AR or AK related (If that's your thing). Last time I think I did see an M&P15 though. Ammo prices can be a bit high, but honestly who's prices are going up in this day and age.Shop blends into the surrounding pretty well, just park in the Denny's parking lot and you can't miss it. I visited the area from Sacramento and I was walk-in business. This shop had an M1 Carbine that I liked for the right price for me. I explained that I was from Sac and would need to have it sent to me FFL. He explained that I would need to initiate the FFL process from my local gun shop and render requested payment + FFL fee to them. I said, that's fine, I'll take it. The next day I arranged the FFL with my local shop. The local shop billed me $100 for the FFL fee which I was not happy with but the total price was not more than I was willing to pay. They faxed their documents to GVG&S. GVG&S did not respond. When I called them, they said they no longer had the rifle and tough luck with the FFL fee. So I'm out $100 and no rifle. It has been a year or more since this happened and I am still irritated enough to make this review. If you like doing this kind of business, by all means, go see Goleta Valley Gun Supply. You will be disappointed. read more

Went there about a month ago transfered a handgun under my name I live in lompoc and I dnt hve utility bill under my name but I did hve registration for my cutlass so when I came bk he said he couldn't except it even though I had paid tags just need it to pass smog so along story short he finally said get a notary saying I live at my address so I did that then he said "I hope it hasn't been 30 days since I first tryd getting the gun sure enough it was so I had to redo paper work plus pay again I'm a Goleta native but this place sucks go elsewhere read more

Nice shop. I come here anytime I'm looking for a new firearm, whether I end up getting one or not. The guys working are always helpful and good for some conversation. They even get my girlfriend involved in the fun, and she knows nothing about guns, but still has a good time when I go in. Nice selection of guns new and used, reloading supplies, ammunition, and accessories. You don't feel burdensome if you don't know exactly what you want. They'll put some guns in your hands, see what feels right, and if they don't have what you want, they'll at least try to get it for you. I started coming here because my dad bought every gun he has at their store. I went in for my first handgun, looking for a 9mm on a tight budget. While they had one gun that was well within my budget, they advised me with honest opinions that if it was something I was going to keep for a long time, I wouldn't be too happy with that gun. Instead they showed me a few others that were more tried and true, and in the end gave me a deal on a nice used S&W 910 (basically think 59 series) and brought it down to meet my budget. Really appreciated as I'm getting a nicer gun than I expected, while still staying within my price range.Took my HSC, did my DROS paperwork, and got out of there within maybe 45 minutes? That's including browse time. All in all a nice store, helpful employees, fair prices, and good inventory. I always come here when I'm thinking about buying another firearm. read more

This is what you might call a "no frills" gun shop, with an owner who's VERY knowledgeable/capable on firearms and related supplies, but a bit short on modern marketing skills/techniques. The owner strikes me as a good man who works hard to take care of his customers, but I respectfully think he should kick it up a notch on appearance, organization, inventory, etc. For example, when you go in there, you'll feel more like you're walking into a buddy's workshop, garage or basement than a modern retail shop dealing in firearms and related supplies. The phone frequently goes unanswered during business hours, and the caller gets kicked to a "robo-voice" that doesn't even identify the business, and tells you the un-named subscriber's "mailbox is full." Maybe that's the way some people like their gun shops to be run, but I'm not one of those people ... With all that said, if you physically go into the shop, the owner will promptly ask what you need and do everything he can to get it done for you. If he can't get what you need, he'll refer you to someone who can. I recently used his shop to do the FFL transfer paperwork on a private sale/exchange. His service charge was reasonable, and he zipped through the paperwork with zero difficulty. When I returned to pick up the weapon after the mandatory waiting period, I mentioned I was having a heck of time finding spare magazines for this particular pistol. He reached under one of his counters and pulled out a box full of them, including some new, un-used OEM mags, still in their factory packaging ... for a gun manufactured in the mid-1980's. That's the kind of knowledge/support I want from any gun shop I go to, and that's why I still give Goleta Valley Gun & Supply four stars, with only one-star off for the gripes mentioned above. read more

We visit this shop on a regular basis. Many of the old timers use this shop to dispose of their collections which makes for very interesting pieces being available. I bought a beautiful S&W and couldn't be happier. I wish more businesses were as knowledgable! read more

Been doing business with Rick since I bought my first handgun about 7 years ago and my brother did business with him for a previous decade or more. Really nice guy and does a great job of remembering everyone's name who comes in there on a semi regular basis. Basically this is a store where you can hang out and browse, meet fellow shooting/hunting friends. Rick and Bill are always super helpful with any questions you have and really try to make sure you get the gun you're looking for. My biggest rave is they don't try and force you into a sale and they get to know their customer. As a woman going into a gun shop, most of the guys at other gun shop's aren't very helpful but Rick and Bill never assume just because you're a woman, you don't know guns. Almost did a gun transfer/purchase from the store until the MANAGER "Rick" said "I'm really not a fan of those"???? Funny, last time I checked this was America, & I'm the one buying it, not him. Then to top it off, he spoke to me like I was a juvenile & said "Why don't you just have them transfer it to their other store"???? So much for customer appreciation in a dying California gun shop market. I will NEVER buy a thing from this store due to the lack of respect, appreciation, & the complete absence of customer service tact. I am 45 years old, I have worked numerous customer service jobs, & I was nothing but respectful at this place. I thought businesses this bad didn't excist, but much to my suprize they do.
