Last Saturday, while heading to California Sandwiches, I passed by this Gong Cha. I made a note of it, as I wanted bubble tea after a late lunch.
I drove over here after stuffing myself silly with a massive veal sandwich. This Gong Cha shares the same space with QQ Frozen Yogurt. The space used to be where Menchie's was.
This bubble tea place is located in a huge plaza, a few doors down from Dollar Tree and across from Michaels. I had no problem finding a spot to park. I then walked into the store.
There was one woman placing a bubble tea order when I got there. It allowed me to take my time figuring out what I wanted.
I had downloaded the Gong Cha app. This visit would be my first time using it for points. You do need to scan your barcode to collect points first before ordering. The nice woman at the counter explained the whole process to me, which I appreciated.
I ordered the following items:
- QQ peach green tea
- Strawberry passion fruit earl grey tea with kanten jelly
Both were large in size, with no sugar and less ice.
I paid with a debit card. I tapped and my transaction was done. Easy!
It didn't take long for my order to be ready. It allowed me to review the menu and take photos.
I recommend bringing a bag if you are ordering multiple drinks and are doing takeout. I had two, so I carried both in each hand and headed to my car.
You can sit down and sip your tea. There are a few tables and chairs by Gong Cha. I think that if they are all taken, you could go over to the QQ Frozen Yogurt side and sit down there.
There are washrooms. There are two single stalls that are gender-neutral. One of them is built for accessibility.
I thanked both women behind the counter last Saturday. I then left with my drinks. I placed one of them in a bag and had the other as I drove northbound.
I probably order the QQ peach green tea more than any other drink off Gong Cha's menu. I love the mixture of tapioca and coconut jelly. If you can't decide what toppings you'd like, let this drink decide for you. The peach flavour is perfectly balanced with the green tea. It's a yummy drink. You can't go wrong with it.
I did something different and ordered the drink with the longest name on the menu. The strawberry passion fruit earl grey tea with kanten jelly has complex flavour layers. If you love strawberry and passion fruit together, you'd love this one. They compliment each other nicely flavour-wise.
I wasn't sure how the earl grey would turn out. Earl grey can be a dominating flavour. It didn't scream, "I'm the star of this bubble tea. Drink me!" It was surprisingly more toned down than I had expected.
Kanten jelly is cool. It doesn't really have any taste to it, but it's enjoyable. It's translucent and firmer than I had anticipated. It was a nice contrast to simply drinking bubble tea.
This Gong Cha makes bubble waffles. You're out of luck if you're looking for croffles. I have only seen croffles at the Gong Chat in Whitchurch-Stouffville.
I had an excellent, positive experience here. Staff were friendly and sweet, and I thoroughly enjoyed my drinks.
