    Yummy sushi
    Cher A.

This restaurant is super cute. We made a reservation and had our own private table with half a door which adds a nice extra touch for a date night. The Service: The service is really good. I found the staff very attentive and they made our food very quickly. The Food: The food was really good. The sushi was fresh and we both enjoyed our meals. I ordered a salmon avocado roll and a tuna avocado roll and was happy with my dishes. We also ordered edamame to share and I found it a bit too salty but it was cooked for the right amount of time and the edamame beans were tender and not too firm. Would I Go Back? Absolutely!

Gonoe sushi has been around for quite some time and serves up high quality sushi at a higher price point. We decided to get takeout for a party and ended up with the platter and an extra two rolls. The fish was all fresh and the platter came with a good variety. The rice was a bit on the thicker side but well cooked and flavored for sushi rice. The rolls were large and very tasty as well. Price: expect to pay a bit higher than most sushi places but you will get higher quality.

Average quality- lots of sushi roll choices,we ordered Las Vegas Roll & Scallop Deluxe Roll & Party Boat Sushi&Sashimi (Small) for 5 person. The environment is so authentic with Japanese style with warm lighting. Good for group gathering! The service is great, they keep filling us water but I think the price is ok when compared to other sushi places.

The decor has a traditional feel with with many semi-private rooms. The servers were nice and helpful as well. The tempera used different batter: the shrimp used a panko-crust while the veggies used wheat-based batter. My friend and I ordered their sushi and sashimi boat, which had two different rolls, some nigiri, and some sashimi, which had a nice variety. The sushi was overall decent. The restaurant was not too busy when we went on a Tuesday evening.

This is a super cute place that's just perfect for a date! It's smaller and more intimate than neighbouring Matsuda. There are semi-private rooms that enclosed with walls and entrance curtains. Most of them seemed to seat up to 4 people. This place is a la carte ordering with lunch specials that occur every day except for Saturday. I ended up ordering a 10 piece salmon sashimi lunch special that comes as a bento box. The box had an assortment of sides in there including a green salad that was really nicely dressed with a ginger sauce, cold japchae noodles with peppers and onions, a scoop of white rice, and two pieces of perfectly golden deep fried fish with a light aioli on top. It also came with a miso soup to get everything started. Everything was really fresh and tasty! The salmon sashimi was exceptional. So glad we found this little shop!

Absolute gem of a place. My go-to for sushi that impresses. I have always had a great service and fresh tasty food. Service + atmosphere - decorated for Valentine's Day, very cute - warm, cozy vibes - servers were friendly, kind and attentive. - washrooms were very clean - the sushi is made in an open kitchen so you can see the sushi chef prepare your food. - social distancing/spacing very well done with dividers and rooms - checked proof of vaccine at the door Food - Complementary edamame and tiny bowl of noodles, both were very simple but well done and tasty - Spicy chicken karage - their chicken karage is done Korean Fried Chicken style and it was DELICIOUS. Honestly, I just ordered this because my boyfriend doesn't have a lot of sushi experience and I wanted him to have something to eat if he didn't end up liking the sushi... It was surprisingly so good. The chicken was well-fried, crispy but not oily. The sauce was spicy but didn't burn your face off. It was sweet but not cloying. We cleared that plate. - Small Sushi and Sashimi Boat - just enough for us to be full and satisfied. Very fresh, a good variety of sashimi, sushi and rolls. We always ask for wasabi on the side, since it's typically included inside the sushi. Drinks - Ordered the small hot sake. $8 for 5 ounces, which is a little pricey but the sake was a really high quality. Sweet and smooth with a nice warmth.

HOW CUTE, This little sushi à la carte restaurant is oddly enough right beside an AYCE sushi place, but gets just as busy. Depending on how much sushi you're craving you can always stop by Gonoe Sushi for a controlled, yet delicious amount of food. Celebrating my best friend's birthday with her family, we had reservations for seven people and were placed in a separated room. Although it was quite small, it kept everyone intimate and engaged with one another throughout the dinner. The decorations and ambience of this cute dainty restaurant, made me feel as though I wasn't in Toronto for the time being - and I loved it. The menu had a variety of options to choose from and I ended up ordering the 'Black Dragon Roll' and 'Takoyaki' because I'm familiar with both and know it's always delicious! Our server was kind and very patient with us creating a welcoming environment for all guests! He ensured we were all doing well given that we were separated from the main eating area, and refilled our cups of tea constantly. The quality of the food was great! The Dragon Rolls come with 8 pieces and are quite large aka does the job and keeps you full! I would definitely recommend this place because the quality of food is worth the buck, the environment is intimate, and service is phenomenal!

First time trying this gem, and it was absolutely worth it! This place makes authentic sushi like you have never tried elsewhere! In terms of the interiors, it is a centric with little booths with curtains hanging down, they are nice for a little private group, or there are a few tables scattered around. It may need some renovations or adding a little Mondrian touch to it. However, this is not too important compared to the quality of food in this place. We ordered Edamame which was pretty good and shrimp tempura which was OK As for sushi, we ordered the Green Dragon, lobster salad Maki roll and the short beef ribs roll The presentation was beautiful, and we received way more rolls than we had anticipated based on the menu. Each role tasted better than the one before, it's hard very thin layer of rice but so much feelings inside, that we were struggling to finish the portion. There is no all you can eat option, and it is a bit pricey to order from the alacart menu, but it is certainly worth every dollar I will be back very soon and I will make sure to recommend this place

    Sushi freshly prepared!

Thanks to Yelp, I found this little gem! Ordered takeout a la carte to cheer up my BF who had a terrible day (sushi is his fave). Service was polite and friendly. I ordered a California roll, TTR roll, green dragon, Diablo roll, yam/avocado, and two miso soups. The rolls were prepared fresh in front of me and very quickly too! I had about a half hour drive home (thanks rush hour traffic!) but the sushi was still absolutely delish! The BF loved his surprise too :) My faves were the Diablo, loved the pickled peppers in the roll and the TTR which was tuna and green onion sushi roll, fried. OMG so so yum! Be warned the Diablo roll is spicy so if you aren't into heat, don't order. I will be sure to return when I am in the area!

Gonoe Sushi is relative small sushi restaurant compares to Tako Sushi next door. Though the exterior of the building is plain and minimalistic.. the interior deco is traditional and quite Asian... My friend was so excited that we got to sit inside those private booth...not that she is my Hot Date....and we are going to need some privacy? All we here today just for the Lunch Specials. Sashimi, Sushi and Roll ($13.95) - Nicely presented and made my friend went wow!! I guess Gonoe Sushi is a good place to impress your friend?? - Great selections of fish..and everything was nicely done.. Tempura and Beef Teriyaki Combo ($12.95) - A little disappointed..as the beef was really dry and the teriyaki sauce was not too good - Tempura was not bad: batter was light and just a tad oily since it was cold by the time it was served The Verdict: As the name implied, Gonoe Sushi, stuck with sushi, sashimi or rolls... avoid the cooked food.. and you won't be disappointed. Services here were polite and efficient.. Gonoe Sushi definitely a good place for lunch!!

Gonoe sushi is a small restaurant with limited seating so I suggest making a reservation if you plan on coming with a large group (4+ people). I came here with a group of 8 (we made a reservation) and we were seated in a separate room that seemed to fit us perfectly. It is a smaller restaurant so the space is a bit cramped but its not uncomfortable. Their menu is a la carte only and the prices are decent (around $10-15 per roll). I ordered the green dragon roll and it was very delicious! The sushi tasted fresh and the service was great and pretty qucik. I would definitely come back here again if I were in the area and wanted a quick sushi fix.

I am a repeat customer to this place! Ever since a friend showed me, I cannot stop getting the boat (prefect for 2)! Not a fan of wasabi, but I pick it off to the little amount that I like so no big deal! I love the hot tea (just cannot stop drinking it!). They always serve an appetizer (Edamame and noodle/soup) and end with ice cream for our boats! Service has been very pleasant every time we go! Will be returning!

    Medium sushi sashimi boat

Gonoe sushi is among the highest class Japanese restaurants I've ever been to. To start off, the interior design with its Japanese style indoor buildings, the tiled flooring and matching chairs, and the cozy booths delicately hidden behind curtains are all creative and pleasing to the eyes. Heck, even the ceiling with its criss cross wooden designs is nice. Our timidly respectful and kind waitress spoke with a quiet, soft voice, yet she enunciated clearly and was very friendly and attentive to us despite there being a lot of other customers. Her service was absolutely stellar. The sushi would take longer than usual, so she gave us appetizers on the house and, at the end of the meal, ice cream on the house. For our meal, we ordered Pork Katsu Donburi, which was a decently sized serving, and the quality of the katsu was not bad at all, though it could be more crunchy for my taste. We also ordered Medium Sushi and Sashimi boat, which was filled with tasty rolls and mouth-watering well-sized slices of sashimi. To my delight, there was a lot of salmon. Salmon sushi and sashimi are my favorite! As seen in my pictures, the sushi boat was beautiful. Even the wasabi and celery decor were shaped into flowers - the entire arrangement was fabulous. I would come back here, but sadly I'm only visiting from the SF Bay - but if ever I do return to Toronto, I will be hitting this place up again.

Great à la carte sushi spot in North York. Service and value - although not terrible - could be better and keep them from getting 5 stars.

First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

We got a bunch of dishes to share and overall liked most things but some things (like the oyster) unfortunately didn't hit as well. Wagyu - thin slices but very tender and very flavorful with the cheese - surprised by how well the flavor combo worked out. Tofu - easily one of my fave agedashi tofu. Huge tofu slices with very chewy outer texture, a bit gelatinous . Really went well with the sauce and toppings Carbonara - nice chewy texture to the udon, not too soft and not too firm. The sauce was nice and creamy. Not as truffley as I thought it would be, wish it was a little more but it was still pretty good Oyster - least favorite of all the dishes we got today. It was a bit sour and the cheese felt like it didn't really help the flavor profile of the oysters. It was super oily from the cheese, felt like it was drowning in cheese/oil flavor Cod - it looks good but something is lacking, maybe in taste? Feel like maybe the marinade did not penetrate enough. The texture is still nice and soft , with a crisp skin . Also was a bit too oily for our liking, compared to other miso cod we have had. It was also a relatively smaller piece of cod. Overall, the appetizers were really good! The oyster and cod were a bit disappointing. Would come back for the carbonara and the other appetizers mentioned though!
