Food is 4* Serving size is large enough for 2 to share. We had a cheeseburger and fries with a water. Meat was moist and juicy without being super fat. The buns were good too. Service was great for what it is. You place your order, get a number and when your number is called, you go pick it up. Ambience was 3* as it was ok. There was no one wiping down tables. I actually took my wet ones and wiped down a picnic table outside. I also removed as well as picked up some garbage to make a spot for us to sit. After our number was called though, we were able to sit with another couple to eat inside. There aren't a lot of tables since it's not a very big place. Burger is a good decent burger. I have had better mom and pop burgers and for less. Nothing special about burgers or fries. Sodas are $2 a can Coke. Sold me on not coming to this place again. .75 cents ok but damn. Place is ok but a little dirty. No parking, only open a couple hours and only cash. $20-$30 per person. read more

The burger taste is normal. The fries are nothing special . The whole restaurant smells bad as soon as you walk in. The smell is probably the smell of old/ burned oil. The flies are all over your food unless you swar them away. They do have plenty of napkins, possibly to cover your food to keep the flies out. The restroom floor was very wet and slippery to maneuver. I felt that the owners could care less about customers feel about the place. Very expensive. I paid $19.00 for a cheeseburger, fries and a can of coke. Too expensive for what you're getting. I would not go there again, it's not worth it. You can eat better at any other restaurant. read more

I know this is supposed to be a really special place, sought out by Winter Texans. Seen on the Texas Bucket List TV show and all, but... In my opinion it's just, meh.... The burgers ARE HUGE. Reported to be 12 oz. They are griddled on a flat top. We ordered a cheeseburger which came loaded with lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion and mustard. They added mayonnaise on my request. The burger itself was cooked nicely with maybe a tiny bit of pink in the middle. It wasn't dry which was nice. It just wasn't anything spectacular either. It certainly didn't know my socks off. The burger was $13. If you wanted fries, that was extra. We chose the onion rings, even though they were $9. For that price we got 7 onion rings! Don't get me wrong, for onions rings they were decent but again, nothing outrageously good. Just ok. The burger was big enough that the wife and I split it. That, the onion rings and two cans of Diet Coke cost $26. Kinda steep in my opinion. I'd choose to go to nearby Tower Burger. But now I can say I went to Gonzalez Burger. It's a one and done for me. FYI the place is in a housing area in a nondescript beige building and can easily be missed. They have limited hours of operation, opening at 11am and the day we were they're the Closed sign went up at 1:50 pm. read more

Great burgers. If you are a burger lover you have to come to this place. The burgers are huge and seasoned very well. Simple and to the point. Cheese and bacon are the only extras along with another huge beef patty. You can chiose between fries, onion rigs or chipsI ordered the bacon cheese burger with extra cheese because why not. I've been coming to this establishment for as long as I can remember. A staple of Donna, TX, this business has been a prominent restaurant in the community for as long as I can remember. My late father would tell us of a time when he was able to buy a burger and soda for .25 cents in the 70s. They used to have booths and my grandmother would bring all the grandkids to have a burger. Everything is separate here, there are no combos, but I personally don't mind. The burgers are HUGE and they prep their meat everyday. If you haven't stopped by, I recommend this place. read more

Very good burger and big. Way over priced. ($13) for a cheeseburger by itself. Large fries were the size you would normally get in a restaurant for a single serving and $8. Staff not friendly at all. This joint made the Texas Bucket List and I see why. They grind and season their meat fresh each morning. Portions are Texas sized. Hidden in a residential neighborhood, but well worth the effort to find it! Only open 6 days a week, September to May, they take summers off. read more

BEST BURGERS AROUND! The wait is about an hour, the seating is horrible but it's all so worth it. They remind me of the burgers that my Grandmother would make... Huge, simple and delicious. This place has the best burger I have EVER had. Period. Nothing fancy, just burgers, fries and drinks. They are only open 11-3 Tues-Sat, so you need to plan ahead. Also, the wait can be up to an hour before your meal is actually ready. Ordinarily, this would be a "minus", but this food is totally worth waiting for. The owners, Victoria and Nora, have worked here 47 and 35 years respectively! That's a lot of burger-making, and it shows in their product. The meat is so flavorful and fresh. The burgers are literally 7 inches in diameter and fall out of the bun. The fries are very good, but not as good as the burgers. Go have lunch there - you won't regret it!!! read more

Growing up in Donna, getting Berta's burgers was a treat. I remember walking home from school and smelling those amazing burgers! Even now that I've lived out of the valley for 31 years, coming for a visit, a stop at Berta's was a must. Got my husband to try it and he loved it! Now that I live in the RGV I can get a Berta burger anytime (as long as their open). This really just beats any other burger chain!! read more

We took a group of five people there for lunch on December 28. We arrived shortly after noon and luckily we found a table to accommodate us. As always, the hamburgers were huge, delicious and enjoyed by all. They have raised the price of their hamburgers over the years, but one is usually enough for two people to share which more than makes up for the cost.
