My 10 year old son has been going to GTA for 9 months and I must say Rob (yes the owner) is the best children's coach in the Valley...hands down!!! Teaching bjj to children is extremely challenging. It's nothing like teaching adults. In fact, being a great kids coach is more of a calling and very few can do it as well as Rob. Rob has an incredible amount of passion and runs a highly structured class where your child can learn in a safe environment. He also incorporates just the right amount of games for the kids. Rob treats every student like family. He's respectful and caring. In fact, he cares so much he will push you and help you achieve more than you thought possible. We should know because our son has lost 10 lbs and is in great shape. As a father I'm grateful to have a gym like GTA to send my son to. My son has been training under coach Rob for only about 3 months and I am blown away. First and foremost, Coach Rob is passionate, warm and has the patience of a saint. He treats every child equally and with tough but warm guidance. He also greets them with a smile and a hello by name to every single student when they step into his gym. The students respect him and I am sure they can sense his genuine care for them and their journey in training. I started my son in the Mini Monsters BJJ, at the time, i had been very frustrated with my son. I felt he needed so much attention, lacked some respect and discipline. After 3 short months, I have seen such a turnaround. I can sense he is gaining a quiet confidence but very humble still. The kids have different levels of skill in the class and Coach Rob balances this very well and it's great for the kids to be paired with sparring opponents of similar skill levels while still seeing kids who are more advanced to keep them striving to learn and practice more. In the first month, my son would give up very easily. Coach guided him through that so well! Now, he never gives up, he's listening to direction and i couldn't be more proud. I've been a member for about a year now at this gym and this is by far the best decision I have made in my life because it didn't just help with exercise, it helped me with discipline/responsibilities, health/mental health, shaping my mindset to not give up when things are tough, and it helps lead into daily activities. He has warned you and everyone that once it is adult time he will use words that aren't appropriate. So if want your kids to be there during adult time that's up to the parents. I have to comment on "Kim B"'s BS review. We shopped several BJJ academies. Personally I don't understand who would attack a young, successful business owner. Jealousy? Maybe a rival gym? I'm not going to try to figure out someone else's toxic BS, so I'll share my experience based on her bullet points. 1- LIE. Coach ROB (not Rod) is the most hands on, active coach. When he has assistant coach or student (who are both champions) work with kids, it's so he can circulate around the gym to observe their technique and safety. 2- the solution they step in kills bacteria that potentially leads to staph amongst other bacterial infections. I have NEVER heard a child complaining. Maybe it was only yours in which case maybe BJJ is not for them. 3- how dare you publicly question this young man's fathering? Despicable, disgusting and OUTRIGHT LIE. I (among other mothers), watch that baby like hawks. When she's not in direct view of the coach, WE got her. She has NEVER chewed on dirty flip flops or belts. This gym is run like a family. Would you allow your child to chew on dirty shoes? Neither do WE. You had to LOOK AWAY when you saw the baby "crawling around putting flip flops...." The baby doesn't crawl yet and you posted that 1 month ago. Outright lie. 4- Rob is not a crook and has no interest in taking people's money at the expense of his gyms reputation. He would and has GLADLY (and with respect) reversed or removed any erroneous charges. I highly doubt anyone told you it was going "downhill" LASTLY, drug use?? Swearing?? The coach ACTUALLY SENSORS THE MUSIC he plays so the children hear no swearing. DRUG USE? PLEASE. You've attacked this mans character as a father and human being. NOT ONLY that, it's insulting to all of us "cult like" clients that trust our children implicitly in his care. Finally, I can guarantee that he would never disrespect anyone with the words you said you must "cool down" from. What a disappointment that a BS review can be seen. read more

Great classes, great gym. Coach Rob is the owner of the gym and teaches Brazilian jiu-jitsu, mma and striking. He also has a children's program but I am speaking on behalf of the adult BJJ program. He makes it a point to make every new member feel welcome and old members feel at home. Rob has put in a lot of effort to create a great positive atmosphere, almost family-like, to encourage excellent hard training without egos. This is mainly a MMA focused gym so expect to be pushed to your limits. Whether you've never trained Brazilian jiu-jitsu or have trained for many years, Rob and Arnaldo do a great job of teaching at all levels and making sure everyone takes something home--a new technique in your toolbox, that was meticulously taught, or a great killer workout...you won't regret taking a class! I have to admit, BJJ can be challenging, but if you stay consistent it will undoubtedly change you physically and mentally for the better. It's a journey you definitely want to take with positive people, good training partners and a coach that takes a genuine interest in their students' progress and development. I also have to call out Kim B's review. I had the complete opposite initial experience. One of the first things I did when I relocated to SFV was check out BJJ schools and gyms. I have been training for a couple of years so it was really important for me to find a gym I felt could take me to the next level. I tried out 3 different gyms (keeping names anonmyous for privacy) before deciding on GTA. I honestly felt that other schools were all about the money and did nothing to make me feel welcomed. If there's any frank way of describing my experience checking out the other schools, it would be "BS training." It was all about the gym's reputation and how much money they could squeeze out of my wallet so that I could train on a crowded mat with other people who were just there for the name and not real training. Boo. On top of every other reason I listed why this gym deserves 5 stars, I also found it to have the most competitive, reasonable prices from all the gyms I tried out. Gooch Training Academy is an amazing Martial Arts school led by Rob Gooch. I think anyone interested in MMA, basic self defense all the way up to expert Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai training will be way better served than any other school in the area. If you have young kids (really as young as 4) they have an incredible program for kids of all ages. For adults just starting out, those who are experienced or even if you just want to lose weight and get in shape, you really need to check it out. Of the numerous reasons I continue attending Gooch Training Academy classes, it is the PASSION of the gym's coaches that impresses me the most. A teacher can have great knowledge of a subject but without passion there's bound to be a disconnect with a student. Our whole family loves GTA and coach Rob! He is genuine and cares about everyone he trains!

This place is owned by Rob and Jeremy. They both took advantage of my son by continuing to bill his account. They stole $526 dollars from his credit card. My son stopped going there after the 1st month yet they continued billing him for 3 additional months. When my son signed up, Rob said they would not take cash, only a credit card. This is their hustle. If you stop going they already have your card so they will continue charging your account even it you are not attending their class. This is why I'm letting everyone know that this scam/ hustle has got to stop. It's a shame to take advantage of young people just starting out. I brought it to Rob's attention and his response was he doesn't baby sit people. He continued to charge my son's account and my son was not even attending his class. Rob refused to pay back the money and Jeremy only wanted to return $200. Dollars. We made a day to meet up and he was a no show. I texted him and called to see why he stood me up. He will not respond. He knew what he was doing is wrong. I do not recommend this place since they have access to your credit card. Rob already admitted to needing $75,000 so watch your credit card account carefully. Do not support a business who has racist intentions. And who doesn't care about young people who made a mistake. read more

G.T.A is just one of those gyms! If you want to meet you fitness goals, you'll meet them. If you want to become champion, you'll become champion. If you want to have something fun to do, you'll have something fun to do. If you want to know how to defend your self, you'll know how to defend your self. The Jiu Jitsu classes are top notch. One of the best Jiu Jitsu black belts in the world - Arnaldo - and one of the best brown belts in the world- rob- teach the classes. For the kids class, they make them respectful and confident, getting them ready for the real world - not to mention they bring a smile to their faces. They learn self defense, confidence, respect, humbleness, and fun. There's nothing else that you should want for your kid. The adult classes give you a great work out and an escape from the outside. When you step on the mat, you instantly become family. It is a no politics type of gym. For the Boxing and Muay Thai, I just watch. What I see is true striking. If you are doing something wrong, Coach Rob doesn't just ignore you and let you keep bad habits. He corrects you and fixes your mistakes without bashing you and if you have a question, he will not ignore you. You also learn how to actually fight. Lots of gyms have an other "Vibe" to it that I don't know how to explain but I've had friends that have gone and I see that if they got into a fight, it would be over for them.
